When I go up to visit my parents, they usually want to have dinner here. Sometimes these off-name places worry me, but this place is actually pretty good! Last time I was there I got a breakfast dish for dinner since they had the whole menu available. BEST sausage links I've had in a long time. The biscuits and gravy was just mediocre (but I've never found any good biscuits and gravy anywhere but at momma's house so take that for what it's worth... lol) The eggs and hashbrowns were cooked perfectly. :) I got corn dog bites for my toddler and they were a little overcooked but not bad. Right next to our hotel, so very convenient. Only two servers for the entire restaurant. Not their fault. Food was slow coming out. The chicken fried steak was good but the veggies were boiled for hours. The BLT had no tomato on it, so I sent it back. All in all it was OK. Just off the highway. Had looked at reviews on YELP, but wasn't sold on anything. Turned out to be a good choice. The two best things: very friendly staff and very good food. It's not fancy. It looks like, and is a roadside diner. But the food is better! I had 'girls with guns' (stupid name), but is was excellent. Grilled chicken breast and pepper jack cheese with artichoke heart sandwich on Parmesan crusted sourdough bread and grilled. Delicious, and the fries were good too. My husband ordered the steak and bacon salad. It was so tasty he never even added the raspberry vinaigrette dressing. My only criticism is that the service was slooooow. Friendly, but slow. There were three other occupied tables when we arrived at 2:30 on a Wednesday. It took ages for each table to be served. OK we read every review about this restaurant. I'm a big chicken fried steak fan, but I want it made fresh. We opted to go across the street because we wanted cocktails, as the one across the street has a full bar. However, I recently had surgery on my leg and my husband didn't want me to walk so far even though it wasn't that far. So we ended up at Rockin R for dinner around 7 pm on a Tuesday. We took quite a while looking over the menu & my husband ordered a cold Coors & I ordered a Merlot. The beer was ice cold; my merlot was quite smooth to my surprise. We finally decided to get the steak dinner. I got the smaller 8 ounce my husband got the 12 ounce. It came with homemade chili beans & they were delicious, a little spicy for me, and sautéed fresh vegetables, choice of potato and we had restaurant Texas toast for bread. Oh!!! Plus a salad beforehand! The salad was good too!! But the steak was great!!! We were surprised. Order medium or medium rare. Both our steaks were perfect. I was too hungry and forgot to take a pic :(. They taste and texture was great and makes for an awesome steak!! We give 5 stars for the cold beer, nice wine and awesome steak !!!! Not impressed. Stopped by on our way to Chico. We waited well over an hour for our food order to be completely delivered. (I know the time because my oldest daughter texted right after we ordered and it was time stamped) My daughter's and husband's was delivered to the table first. Mine made it 10 minutes later. My son's still hadn't made it to the table over 20 minutes from the time my daughter's and husband's arrived. When I asked about it, the waitress was snippy and couldn't imagine why we were waiting for my son's meal so that we could eat together. They were not busy and he only ordered chicken strips. It was our first time in and we had hopes that we had found a good place to stop when going back and forth to Chico. We did not. Truly a disappointment. Food was mediocre at best and cold. After our week at Disneyland we stopped in Red Bluff, CA at the Best Western Hotel next to the Rockin R restaurant. On the recommendation of the front clerk and the promise of a 10% discount we decided to eat dinner at the Rockin R. What a mistake! My wife and granddaughter ordered breakfast dishes as the are offered all day. My grandson and I ordered regular dinners. I informed the waitress we were staying at the Best a Western and heard we would get a 10% discount! she said, "yea, no problem". We never got the discount! It took 45 minutes to get our food and the pancakes were cold. Our waitress (the one with dark hark, not blond) was having a great time talking with some locals during our wait and after the food was delivered. She did come by once after our food was delivered, but was back talking with her friends after that. Had she came by once more I would have asked for more tarter sauce to go with my fish and chips. I finally just ate them without it and we left. I did notice the other waitress was very attentive to her customers (perhaps you should ask to be seated in the blondes station)! . Also, the hostess was very good and did a good job. Normally I would have left a 20% tip is as my custom, but since I didn't get the discount I already asked for an hour earlier, I didn't leave that amount. Beware traveler -- stay away! My son and I endured a memorably awful meal here on our way back to the bay area -- per the waitress, the cook had recently quit and the poor guy in the back was doing the best he could. I ordered the special, turkey dinner -- the turkey seemed like deli turkey, the stuffing was unbearably salty, the super salty gravy was very thick and an odd green color. Everything was just warm-ish, although the plate was hot. The mashed potatoes were actually good (!), but I sent the meal back anyway and requested broccoli cheese soup which, as far as I could tell, had no cheese in it. My son's dinner was also odd -- the masala sauce was thin as milk. It took forever for this awful food to come out of the kitchen. This is the worst restaurant I have ever been to. I tried it twice thinking maybe the first bad experience was just a fluke. The food is seriously terrible. I ordered a salad the first time. The salad tasted old and from a bag. The dressing had an after taste I had never tasted before. The second time I went I ordered breakfast thinking you can't mess up eggs. The omelette was burned and had no flavor. The cheese was non existent and the mushrooms were like eating rubber. My father ordered an open faced sandwich and the gravy was a blob of very dark something like jello definitely not a gravy substance. The meat had all hard old edges. He could barely eat it and in fact chose not to. Needless to say. Two bad times. I won't make it a third. Yuck yuck read more

The Service was fine, very friendly waitresses. But the food.... not so good, it was some what edible but I suppose not what I had expected. I had a french dip, I don't know how a french dip could possibly get messed up, seriously it's just roast beef and a hoggie roll, the hoggie roll was stale and the roast beef was tough and tasted almost like beef jerky. My boyfriend had a new york steak sandwich ordered it medium and it come out WELL well done it was so tough he had to knaw on it like a dog eating a bone.
