I eat breakfast here whenever I visit from the Bay Area and have never been disappointed. Yesterday I had the special, the Strawberry Waffle, two slices of bacon, and two eggs. The waffle was light and fluffy, with strawberries and whipped cream. The bacon and the eggs were cooked to perfection. The service is always friendly. Enjoyed a quick Patty melt type burger (with grilled green peppers along with the grilled onions) and fries. I thought the rye bread could have been a bit larger like I'm used to but it was a good meal and did the trick! They have liver and onions which can be hard to find and they do it right with mashed potatoes and green beans with bacon... reminds me of Mom. They also have a nice diner, breakfast menu. I finally made my first visit to the Rocking R, now that they have been opened for several weeks. We arrived around 7:30pm, they close at 9pm. My Mother-In-Law ordered the steak dinner, which was ordered Medium but arrived Well done. It was served without bread, and when requested, a tiny dinner roll was presented. She had a baked potato which was fine, and a salad, which she complained was very basic. The tri-tip sandwich I ordered had good fresh steak roll, and plenty of AuJus, although the meat was too done for my liking. I too ordered the salad and although the dressing was tasty, the salad was very plain. The ice tea ran out while we were there, so I only got a partial refill, after the waitress made it very clear that she was NOT going to make anymore tea that day. When we left, we stood at the register for 5 minutes before someone came to collect our money. I may give them another chance, since they are new. But my initial feeling is that if you are a new business and you want to survive, you should be going above and beyond to impress, whether diner or steakhouse. read more

Charging our car at the Best Western next door, so we had a choice of three fast food places, Applebees or this place. The Best Western manager said this was the best choice, so we went with it. The food we had was good, and the service was very attentive, but not overbearing. The waitress asked if we needed refills on our drinks as they hit the 1/4 full mark, which was perfect. We both had the special, which was pig in a blanket - three sausages wrapped in three pancakes with two eggs. It was very good, but the syrup was weirdly bland. Barely tasted like anything at all. Overall a good experience. Only two knocks on the place. One, the booth tables are a strangely high height, about 2" too high, so you feel like a kid at the adult's table. And two, the prices are about 20% too high. Not EXPENSIVE, but just a little inflated for what you get. Still, I'd pick this place again over Applebees any day. read more

After quite some time, the family decided to retry the rocking r. I was disappointed yet again and won't be back. I got the prime rib and ordered it medium but it was well done and as tender as a hockey puck. The mashed potatoes were a solid glob and the dark gravy was so salty I couldn't finish it. My husband ordered a burger, it was just "ok", not a lot of fries and was pretty small but the price was more than a burger from red robin. For a burger, prime rib, an appetizer and kids meal, (no drinks) it was $50. We can eat better food, better service and less $ across the street at Applebee's which isn't saying much. read more

Normally the food is good to great, commonly eat at Rockin R a couple time a week, Saturday stopped in with the family, ordered a GIRLWITHGUNS, a great sandwich, that ive had before, the sandwich was up in normal time, and served, I took a bite, and realized the chick was "raw" in the middle, and not just a little, I looked at the chicken, had hardly any grill marks, and I do mean "RAW", so discreet I called the waitress over, and showed her, she said she would have it re-made for me, I waited, and waited about 10 minutes, they returned the same sandwich to me , I assume microwaved, bread was a soggy for the juice of "raw" chicken, I explained to the waitress that there is no excuse for returning a raw undercooked bread soaked - soggy sandwich to a customer. The owner was running around that night, and surely was in / out of the kitchen, under-cooked food, especially chicken, is a MAJOR HEALTH CONCERN, I would have been all over making that right as an owner, and yes i do own a local business that im active in. read more

This place is the best diner in town. They have the best combination of food and service out of the several other options in Red Bluff. Their prices are slightly higher than elsewhere, but it's a quieter, friendlier atmosphere. They make their corned beef hash in-house, it's not from a can. I really love their fried green beans. They're happy to make your food any way you ask. My one wish is that they had a few more menu items that are on the healthier side. read more

This place is a low down greasy spooner. The food is extortionately overpriced, and the environment is bleak and depressing. The portions and quality have deteriorated over the past year, and the lack of hospitality is down right abysmal. It's as if the management is oblivious to the plentiful competition in the area. If you have small children steer clear of this facility, for the manager is known to come out and literally ask people to leave for bringing in their family. We waited to try this place after it first opened...thinking a new restaurant might take a bit to get the kinks out..I guess we did not wait long enough, To start off waitress did not know the menu and when one of us tried to order the hash browns "loaded"..we were told "that's only for the taters" She obviously has not been trained to up-sale...I'm quite sure that adding sour cream & green onions to hash browns for 1.25 would not have been a big deal to the kitchen...or the owner. #2 when my eggs Benedict came, there was only one on my plate and the "poached egg" was over cooked-rock solid, it had dinner style ham with tasteless cold Hollendaise sauce. While looking at this disaster all you can hear is the loudest waitress EVER yelling orders to the kitchen... ( I can not get "CAN I GET A SIDE OF GRAVY" out of my head!) #3 the waitress left our ticket only about 4 bites in, without even asking if we would like anything else. My husband and I decided to try Rocking R (On a friday night at 8pm) in hopes of finding a new place to enjoy on a regular basis. Everything started off great.. the service was wonderful until our food was brought out to us. I ordered the Girls With Guns sandwich (grilled chicken breast with artichoke hearts and cheese on parmesan grilled bread) and payed the extra $1.00 to upgrade to onion rings. My husband ordered steak with a baked potato and had both the clam chowder soup and a salad. The clam chowder was canned and lacked flavor and the salad was nothing more than bagged salad with one itty bitty tomato and one slice of cucumber that had sat out too long and was floppy. The server then brought our entrees not once asking as to the satisfaction of the soup or salad and we never saw her again. Our cup were empty by this point and all three of the women working were busy talking among themselves about stipends for gas from teaching and $20 PG&E bills. The chicken on my sandwich was juicy and tender and had absolutely ZERO flavor and was barely lukewarm in the middle. I received a total of 7 onion rings for my extra $1.00, thankfully they were good. My husbands steak was cooked perfectly to medium rare as he had ordered but it had no seasonings on it. He said the beef had a good flavor but his baked potato was lukewarm in the center. Mind you though the whole time we still hadn't received a visit from our server to check on us or give us our much needed refills. It wasn't until we walked to the register that finally our server talked to us. She STILL did not ask how everything was, she printed out our ticket and my husband paid and we left.
