Woah! We had no idea this town basically shuts down on Sundays. Thank goodness that Rocking V Cafe was open so we could get some dinner. I'm gluten intolerant, so I settled for the grilled chicken with pepper Jack cheese on top. It came with rice and beans, but I subbed mashed potatoes for the beans. I wasn't thrilled with my food. The chicken was dry and the mashed potatoes were also a little dry. It was okay, but not great. However the restaurant is super cozy and the service was excellent. I think I just chose wrong. It turned out to be a great choice. I had the El Verde Bowl which was stuffed with plenty of pork! The Rocking V offers plenty of alcohol choices which included a variety of local crafts. Be sure to make reservations because we got there at 6:45pm (with reservations) on a week night and other folks were being turned away. Ate here today for lunch. My husband and I had to wait about 20 minutes around 2:30pm for a table for two! We would have preferred to be seated outside but there wasn't enough staffing for outdoor seating. The hostess was very upfront with the fact the restaurant is short staffed. This place was a hipster style restaurant. Not really a vibe for family and kids. My son is 5 and we have an infant. We didn't feel too welcomed by the crowd or the hostess. I thought maybe it was just me but my wife said the same thing to me. This restaurant is listed as $$ but this is much more like a $$$ if you're a meat eater. All vegan options are under $30 but any meat option is over $30. Drinks are $12 and up which is kinda surprising to me as I live in south florida (party central) and that's pricing there. This place looks like a hole in the wall type place. Has hipster updated art but outdated otherwise. I wasn't expecting the prices. And my son eats very hearty almost carnivore. They didn't have any meat on the kids menu except a junk corn dog which he doesn't like. The pricing bothered me because the vibe didn't give high prices and we wait 30 minutes to be seated and it was already 7:45. So I had to split the ribeye with my son. All the food was very good and the portion sizes were pretty decent as well. So definitely no complaints there. The owner (or maybe manager) went to pretty much every single table sometimes twice and asked how things were. Never came to us. This further made us feel unwelcomed. Between the vibe and the price I would not recommend this place to families with young kids at all. Oh almost forgot our waitress Sadie was the only one who was super sweet to us and smiled the whole night. We stopped by the Rocking V Cafe for dinner the night we were to hike The Wave so we wanted a good meal beforehand. The place was packed on Saturday night with about an hour wait for the 6 of us. We actually put our name down at the restaurant, drove down the street to check into our hotel, then back to the restaurant. They have a pretty extensive local, Salt Lake City breweries beer list. It's always fun to try lagers or pale ales you can't get at home. Their red and white wine, liquor, and cocktail selections were equally as extensive. For dinner, I opted for the Homer's dream pork chop cooked medium. Pork chops are not always the easiest to cook at home on the grill so whenever I see a pork chop on the menu, I usually order that. This was a nice thick-cut pork chop perfectly seasoned and char grilled. There was a nice char taste with every bite. Most of my friends ordered the Rangeland Ribeye and they all enjoyed it too. Great little restaurant with fantastic offerings. The wine list has options for all palates. Our server, Harrison, was very cordial and friendly and walked us through our dining experience with great care and attention. The Brussel sprouts were delicious, and their grilled trout was served perfectly cooked (I get nervous sometimes about overcooked proteins, especially fish). The menu offers something for everyone and pulls to the foodie crowd especially. Bison, steaks, pasta - there is something for everyone on the menu and it was a real struggle to pick an entree, I could have had like four. The restaurant is decorated with many different pieces of art, most for sale, and they highlight the natural landscape and beauty of the nearby parks. Oh my gosh, where to begin? While you're in Kanab, Utah this is a place worthy of your very careful consideration. Although there are a number of options to eat at in town, we thoroughly enjoyed the Rocking V and you won't go wrong here. My wife enjoyed the bison tenderloin and I had a rib eye. Both were Tender and cooked beautifully, and served with smashed potatoes and asparagus. We had also enjoyed Brussel sprouts with pancetta Hazard appetizer and that was a good decision as well. Beyond that, we had brought a bottle of wine and were able to enjoy it with dinner. A very pleasant surprise for us was the quality of the customer service. We had two or three different waitresses wait on us and then the owner came by and dazzled us with 10 minutes of his stories of worldwide travel. Hands down the best trout my husband and I have ever eaten. After our meal we decided to try the blueberry cheesecake and the almond bread pudding for dessert just because they both sounded wonderful.
