I used to like this place. Coffee is better than average and the food generally OK. Convenient alternative to SB across the street. BUT: Don't advertise a sandwich as VEGAN when it contains egg whites. This is a scumbag move not worthy of a good restaurant in a tony neighborhood. Vegan means no animal products. Period. I've raised this issue with the waiters who have the most lackadaisical attitude I've ever seen in any coffee shop. Seriously...if I had told them that the coffee contained arsenic, that might elicit a yawn. "Yeah", they muse, "A lot of customers have told us that too". And nothing gets done...for over a year. I agree that the service is spotty but I usually get my coffee to go so I have not had the problems that others have pointed out in reviews. We love walking to this little coffee shop and the staff are really nice. However, twice in the last few times in which we visited, they have zero food items! Not one bagel, muffin, or sandwich. Spacious. quiet cafe with friendly baristas but nothing special. I was tempted by the numerous frozen, dessert-y drinks but ended up ordering the iced tea of the day, which was ginger peach. It was refreshing and very flavorful. About $2 for a medium. I was also a big fan of the record covers framed on the walls. My only big complaint was the very spotty Internet connection. My wife and I traveled 15 miles to use our Groupon. We chose items from the showcase, many were not labled or priced. There is no menu or table service. When the clerk behind the counter started totalling my purchase I had given her my Groupon, the owner interrupted to say that the Groupon was not applicable to our purchases. I ended up paying for our purchases, but would have simply left if we weren't on a schedule. There are plenty of other places to eat in Millburn. My wife's premade Veggie Sandwich was basically a Tomato sandwich. My premade turkey sandwich had 3 thin slices of turkey. The sandwiches did taste good. The coffee was good. I felt sorry for the staff having to work in such poorly organized eatery and for an owner who makes up unreasonable RULES to defeat the purpose of the Groupon: to stimulate business. I Went in and ordered two omelets. It took 1 hour and 3 minutes for a total of 63 minutes to get the eggs. Had to go out and pay the parking meter again. There weren't many people there at all. This place has really turned around. New management has really upped the quality of the food and the atmosphere. They are still working on the menu, but they now have fresh scrambled eggs/omelets, fresh fruit smoothies, great blueberry muffins and croissants. My favorite is the new veggie egg white sandwich. The service is definitely much better, too. Friendly staff are always smiling and helpful. They keep the place pretty clean, too. Best of all, they fixed the wifi! Great place to get work done. 90 second walk from Starbucks with better coffee, better food (that's more filling), generally better prices, more comfortable seating, open air windows, live music, and arguably better prices. They have pastries and sweets but also a full menu with food that will actually fill you up and keep you full. I have nothing at all against Starbucks, but this place is just better and I haven't been back there since trying out this Rock n' Joes. Great live music several days a week, friendly staff. Be patient with the coffee, it takes a little while for them to brew several types because they actually make it with the coffee grounds and pour over funnel things rather than brewing a lot and taking it from a thermos as the day goes on. read more

This place is great. The staff is super friendly and welcoming, but they're also good at making coffee! Their cappuccino is on point as it is, with no sugar or flavoring added, but they also have a truly impressive array of flavorings for coffee, everything from caramel to mango white mocha to lavender. I've been here a few times... I got a $20 card the other day so now I've got to come at least a few more times. The armchairs in the front are the best space, however the cushions themselves are sunken in, so it's impossible to sit well. I say this as a yoga practitioner. I just had what can only be described as a "microwave quiche" and my girlfriend had two giant pieces of toast with essence of peanut butter and jelly carelessly parceled between them. She ordered a chai latte which was served lukewarm. Sodas are of the mass produced, canned variety. The service is about the best you can expect from three teenagers. The decor tries to invoke the excitement of classic rock & roll but is really rather boring - a bunch of album covers, cheap guitars, and some posters. Very friendly. I've had several of the coffees. Cold brew is good. Pumpkin Latte us available all year. And it should be! It's that good! I look forward to trying all the different breakfast Toast. The smoked salmon with cream cheese and dill is my favorite so far. The breakfast sandwiches are hearty. I enjoy the staff as well as the atmosphere. Music is always good. If I can help it, I will always hit up a local spot (or local chain) before I go to a mega chain. This place is great... I don't particularly care much for coffee, but they make an amazing mocha! I had a Nutella mocha from a small shop in Chicago once that made me a believer. After having a regular mocha here at Joes (it was outstanding!) I asked the barista if he knew of a recipe to incorporate Nutella into the mocha or if they would be able to come up with one. At that point he held up a jar of Nutella and told me he was already on it! Mind = blown. Today I get that Nutella mocha, and it sure as heck doesn't disappoint. There is quarter of teaspoon of almond butter and even less jelly smeared over this bread. I'm done with this place. I wanted it to work because it's next door to my job but their coffee is horrible and other meals that I tried are small portions and not much to them. One note of caution, their espresso drinks are very strong - be careful about ordering large sizes late in the evening or if you're sensitive to caffeine (fortunately, they can make everything in decaf and it tastes just as good. The reason I'm dropping a star is that they have changed their hours and now close at 6pm every evening... not at all ideal for a place that's perfect for after-dinner coffee and dessert. read more

I dig this place. It's a great setting for grabbing a cup of coffee or tea and catching up on work, with a friend, or just to clear your head. The setting is ample, and I love the larger leather chairs towards the front. My only complaint is they are terribly worn out and there's just not enough of them. They serve some of the best vanilla chai tea I have had and I love the little designs they sometimes add to the foam of larger drinks. The breakfast sandwiches are pretty good; the omelets were just OK, a little undercooked for my taste. Prices are reasonable (and better than a chain coffee shop like Starbucks). I've only been here in the morning and day time hours on weekdays, but it has become one of my go-to places when I want to meet friends or just sit and drink some tea in peace.
