The ONLY reason I am not giving it 5 stars is that it is a noisy atmosphere, so it can be difficult to converse when it is busy, which is almost always. One reviewer said this place is stay-at-home mom heaven. It certainly is. For the stay-at-home moms. But when you get two or three or four (god help us) moms together with their kids, in this gorgeous but echo-ing space, there is not a chance of enjoyment for me, nor any chance of hearing whomever I am "enjoying" time with. And I even LOVE children! Honest! The last two or three times I was there I said, "Never again." I hope I meant it last time, because I have been unable to find the time of any day that would allow me to say, as one envied reviewer said, ". . . such a beautiful, calm place . . ." I've been coming here forever!!! Consistently delicious coffee and pastries. One thing you must try is the quiche of the day!!!! Either option is always so so good. The line can be long, but that is strictly because it is such a loved establishment by the Manito and Rockwood neighborhood. I live a block away and this place is cozy af. I was bummed at first cause they don't have WiFi so I couldn't use my comp but I feel like without the WiFi people are having more conversations and the atmosphere is just more lively, and not so much a study space. Baked goods are absolutely amazing, unfortunately I continue to experience poor service. The staff seem rude and annoyed if you take your time placing an order or ask questions. This last time, I was looking at the case of baked goods to order based on what looked good that day (pretty typical for a bakery I think). When we got to the register, the staff asked me to repeat back to them everything I'd just ordered so they could ring it up, which was difficult and confusing given the large order. The person rang me up, then left me at the register with no direction on where to wait for my food/drinks, so the next staff started ringing another person up on top of me, again with no courtesy or saying anything and I had to ask what they wanted me to do. Baking is a time-intensive art that Rockwood does well.. the staff should feel ashamed to represent the product and work of these bakers so poorly. read more

Stopped by this morning and was blown away by the pastry selection! If I had been a little more awake, I might have chosen several items to try -- but with the pressure of a short line behind me, an attentive cashier, and no caffeine yet (I know, hard life!!) I randomly got zucchini bread. Luckily I was not disappointed! Very moist and perfect crumb. Sweet but not too much so, just what you want for a breakfast bread. Their 8 and 12oz espresso drinks are single shot, just a heads up. This Seattleite is used to double as the standard so I got an extra shot in my latte. It was good but nothing extraordinary. I did to-go, but it's spacious enough that I think you could enjoy your treat there during the pandemic. Good distancing and mask protocols. What happened to this place?! The past 3 times we've come here we get crappy service, a screwed up order, or a combination of both! The people who take our order have consistently seemed rude or act like heating up our overpriced pastry is such a daunting task- or occasionally just decide to not heat it up at all after we ask. Every other time we come here they make our drinks for here when we ask for to-go. They don't act feisty when we ask them to put them in to-go cups, so that's nice (hence 2 stars instead of 1). If I'm paying 35 bucks for 2 coffees and 2 pastries you could at least pretend to be friendly and attentive. P.S. if the majority of people visiting are in groups of 2 or 3, maybe having bigass tables isn't a good idea... read more

The location and atmosphere are great. The food, and we are foodies so maybe have to high of expectations, was generic. Common coffee, Hershey's syrup hot chocolate, baked goods seemed mass produce quality, although they looked good. Pleasant stop if you don't have too high an expectations for food. read more

A classic Spokane spot! Everything is made lovingly from scratch and it definitely shows. The space can get crowded on the weekends, but it makes you feel like you are part of something fun and exciting. No wifi here, so bring a good book or a topic or two to discuss with a friend. My go-to order at this place is to pair something savory (either a slice of the quiche or a breakfast burrito) with something savory (a day-old scone that is half off yet still retains all of the deliciousness). We really adore the coffee and the bakery items, however, we have found that earlier (or later) times of the day are best to come here if you want any peace of mind or enjoyment. This is NOT a good place to sit down and enjoy coffee & food between 9am and noon, it's just a complete overrun mess of chaotic mommy groups with misbehaving kids. Loud and obnoxious. The counter help is a little hit and miss with their service, but they do make a great espresso drink and the food is served promptly. Most of the people who work here are lovely and are at least making an effort, which is nice. We are new to the neighborhood, and the bakery came highly recommended. It's a huge turnoff to spending any time here, thanks to the constant chaos...and after several days of the same horrible ambiance, we still come here but we absolutely take our coffee and pastries to go. One of the most delicious bakeries in the Northwest, and my favorite in Spokane. All of the salads, soups, sandwiches, pastries, quiches, and cookies are top-notch fresh and tasty. The coffee is strong and smooth and they sell bags of it too. THE PIE IS TO DIE FOR.....especially the cherry and pumpkin. Great atmosphere and wonderful neighborhood. You can also pick up your picnic food here and head to Manito Park. To those reviewers below, who complain about the lack of wifi, GET REAL. Do you know what happens to mom-and-pop coffee shops who offer wifi? They go out of business. Because people stay all day long with one cup of coffee, either working or doing their homework, and there are no seats left for customers paying for full meals. Locals around Spokane really love Rockwood Bakery and I am included. This coffeeshop/bakery is located a block from Manito Park on Spokane's South Hill. They make everything in house and it is a great location for fresh baked pastries and desserts. You can also get a quiche, breakfast burrito, or soup if you are in the mood for something more savory. I like the coffee I have had here and you can even buy their unique blend of beans to take home. Patio seats are prime for locals as they emerge from their winter hibernation. If you are around Manito park ever - whether you are a local or just visiting - Rockwood Bakery goes right along with the vibes of the south hill area it is smack dab in the middle of. The bustle of the city is quieted with the solid ambiance of the Manito area and it doesn't get any better than having a bakery just for the south hill goers. I loved going here after a run, or in high school when we missed the bus, or meeting our old girl scout troopies for delicious coffee and reminiscent laughs. I stopped here for a quick meeting and enjoyed it. The baristas we're very friendly which was impressive considering how busy they were. It was a bit hard to find a table, but it was new years Eve so I think they contributed to the crowds. I had a soy chai that was great. It had good flavor and the spice wasn't overpowering. This place is amazing! I love the ambiance and the decor of the bakery, and it was the perfect spot to have some coffee and read a book. I had a 16oz mocha, a slice of the veggie quiche, and the morning glory muffin. Hands down, the quiche was the best I've ever had. It was incredibly creamy! ADV Rider... PIE Run! :{) I had to be in Spokane for other business and when i had finished i rode up to the Rockwood Bakery. I had heard they had great PIE, so i stopped in. Well, that wasn't the half of it!! They have some of the best, freshest, homemade, i mean KILLER Pie, It was sooo tasty..!! I also had a small drip coffee to warm up with(i was on the motorcycle) and it had been storming. I choose their outdoor seating as their inside seating was full. Great atmosphere, well decorated, a wide range of customers(ages). You can leave your tray/plates on the table or bus them yourself with a provided tub. My husband loved his bear claw and I had one of the few gluten free items - a muffin which was also good (thanks for having something GF). A hidden neighborhood gem! I love the fact that this place has been around forever yet is not in a commercial zone! The atmosphere is stellar, even when busy! I like it year round; sun, snow or rain.
