Okay. I have to update my review. While Rodeo still isn't my favorite Mexican restaurant, it IS my second favorite Mexican restaurant in the KC area (and I LOVE Mexican). Our family goes to Rodeo at least on a weekly basis. While we love it, it isn't terrific for the diet. . Keep up the good work, Rodeo! read more

Update: 1/27/17 If they are having a big party - LEAVE! DO NOT TALK TO THEM AND DO NOT SIT DOWN. DO NOT ORDER. DON'T DO A DAMNED THING OTHER THAN WALK OUT THE DOOR. When I walked in at 7ish, it was really smokey, so I thought they had already cooked food for the large party (a wedding maybe?) that was going on in the back room. How wrong I was... I wasn't warned about a wait time. I wasn't told to pick from two options. I wasn't asked to maybe come back in an hour when things weren't as crazy. All they asked was if we wanted chips, and what we wanted to drink. We got water and chips, and quickly ordered food as well. (Enchiladas and rice.) AN HOUR LATER - a family gets up from their table and they all leave - them an has enough time to tell the waiter he's not paying because the restaurant wasted TWO HOURS of his life - he was waiting that long guys. THIRTY MINUTES after that (keep up - we're now at an hour and a half waiting on enchiladas here) - after no updates, no warnings on the amount of time it would take, NO APOLOGIES, NOTHING - my husband asked them to cancel our order, because we were leaving. The guy told us that our plates were ready and sitting on the counter. 10 minutes later, they actually brought them to us. We asked to have it boxed, as we were out of time. (Should have grabbed the boxes ourselves - WE KNOW now) -10 more minutes. We gave them our card to pay - ANOTHER 10 minutes (they were printing out all the reciepts for the parties in the room beside us, naturally). It took us TWO HOURS to get a few enchiladas, some rice, and some beans. After all of this: No discounts. No 15% off for next time. No dessert thrown in. NO APOLOGIES. I didn't even need extra food, but when we have seen 20+ trays full of food go by, we've received no updates other than the lie about our food 'already ready and on the counter to bring out', and I smell so much like Mexican food that it would feel like cannibalism to consume any of it, an apology is expected. I understand they were having a large party. I understand they might have been overbooked. I understand all of that. What I don't understand? 1. They didn't warn us about it. 2. They didn't keep us updated on when we could actually expect our food. 3. THEY NEVER APOLOGIZED FOR ANYTHING. And that is how a local business loses my business. Even if you think there are too many good Tex-Mex restaurants in Kansas City, finding good Tex-Mex in Basehor Kansas is not so common. This gem of a restaurant not only serves up decent fair, but they deliver it with good service and a smile. The price is typical and the portions are large, so bring your big appetite. I had the Rodeo Tacos, which are chicken tacos rolled in a shell and mixed with a savory wine sauce. Truly delicious! Since I cannot stomach heat well, this dish was mild but tasty--far from bland that you so often see with Tex-Mex wannabes. This place is the real deal. read more

We've ordered to go three times already and always fantastic. On someone's recommendation here I'm going to try the Rodeo tacos tonight. Welcome to the neighborhood, my new favorite Mexican restaurant! We have ordered to go from Rodeo but it's our first time dining in. Wonderful friendly service and food amazing as usual. We had pork enchiladas and shrimp Matzalan. And horchata which is hard to find at Mexican restaurants here. Well I won't go back, last two times shrimp terrible, once microwave and last time said jumbo shrimp, small shrimp and all greasy vegetables. I'm giving this place a 4 star review based on the Rodeo Fajitas. We met some friends for dinner and i was pleasantly surprised with the fajitas with garlic butter on them. It also comes with warm homemade tortillas that are very tasty. They have two portion sizes, medium and a plate for two. I'm a large guy and my wife and I split the smaller size and both still walk away full. The service was fantastic too. The only reason i didn't give them a 5th star was the chips with the salsa. They are the thicker type while I prefer the thin chips with my salsa. This place doesn't look like much being stuck in the back of a small strip mall in a small town, but i'd match the Rodeo Fajitas up with any i've ever had. read more

We swung by here out of convenience. It's just down the street from where we live. Won't be doing that again. The service wasn't terrible, but wasn't good either. They charge for hot salsa. I got chicken ranchero tacos and they were the worst tacos I've ever had in life. The chicken tasted like it was mixed with chef boyardee spaghetti o's. When I said I I I them I server and walked off. Out of 4 of us my husband was the only one who enjoyed his food. I have a feeling it was more the beer talking than his opinion however. This place has fantastic food. Some of the best Sonoran Tex Mex I've had. I suggest if you live in KCK, Leavenworth, or Bonner Springs this place is well worth the drive. Awesome Mexican Food!!!! Chips and salsa are great and then they add an avocado dipping sauce that is amazing as well. I originally had a fried avocado with beef for the first visit which was unique and amazing. Second visit I tried the tamales which were also tasty. The homemade tortillas are wonderful and can be eaten alone they are so delicious. The flan was also a lovely treat. Warning : the chicken stuffed jalapeños are GIGANTIC. they come out looking like chicken legs they are so big. read more

I was surprised to find this little gem in Basher, KS! Although the food was average as far as Mexican goes, the service was outstanding and there were some interesting options on the menu. They accommodated our large group (9 peoples) with no problem for an late lunch/early dinner. When we arrived there was maybe one other couple seated, by the time we left the place was hopping! I tried the tamales which were pretty good, the refried beans and rice were better than average when it comes to Mexican food in the middle of small town Kansas. My daughter ordered the fried stuffed avocado which was outstanding! I had never seen this before, very creative and very delicious stuffed with cheese and beef, even the breading was tasty! For this part of town there are really no authentic Mexican restaurants. This is one of the better ones. Food is great tasting, tortillas are homemade. Also they have horchata ‍. Can't complain. No mini tacos or tortas though. Overall pretty good. read more

Had a crispy beef taco which was outta sight and then the Nacho dinner and man was that a huge plate of beef nachos, served with pico, sour creme and guac. This place is fabulous. Do not expect tex-mex, it is authentic Mexican with an expansive menu reasonably priced. Clean pleasant atmosphere with wonderful waitstaff. Don't be in a hurry this is slow food and well worth the wait. The tortillas are made on site and dips are unique. I had the Rodeo Special to get a broad spectrum of all the meats. By far the short ribs are to die for with an amazing rub, but all were quite exceptional. We all went home with doggie bags. We will be back! read more

I have heard great things about this place so thought we would give it a try, well not such a great experience. First we arrived and had a total of 5 2 adults and 3 kids. We were told they would clear the back booth for us. We waited and waited for almost 30 min and not one person cleaned the table for us, we watched them seat everyone else that came in but couldn't get any service to have "OUR" table cleaned so apparently we were not important enough to have a table cleaned for us. We left and went to EL POTRO great service there!! I have tried to call and express my concern for them to better themselves in the future and of course no answer or a busy signal. Will not return and will tell others not to either. Word of mouth is your best advertisement and ours will not be good sorry!!! read more
