2 Items Combination: Cheese Enchilada & Shredded Beef Taco
Diana A.

I've been coming here since it was Don Jose's as a child, and now my husband and I (along with our newborn daughter) frequent this amazing restaurant. Service is always incredible, the food is delicious and consistent, and it's a chill spot. We love their chips and salsa, and I appreciate that they use fresh shredded cheese on everything. It's probably our favorite Mexican restaurant in the area! It's good for groups or a quick meal. You can even watch a sport game at the bar or in one of the dining rooms. My go-to is always the 1, 2, or 3 item combo which comes with delicious rice and beans. I love their cheese enchiladas and shredded beef tacos. Their portion sizes are perfect - you won't leave here still hungry. The best part is the service. Everyone here is always so friendly and accommodating. They will bring you more chips, salsa, or drinks before you even need to ask. I would recommend this spot without hesitation (and you'd likely see me there)!

Fajita Burrito

Located in Best Plaza with plenty of parking, this place is spacious! We came in for a late lunch on a Saturday and we clearly beat the lunch crowd (came in at around 2 p.m.). The place was quiet with a few people eating. 80s music playing on the background. We got served complimentary chips and salsa. Salsa was good -- just the right amount of heat. We ordered: Seafood Chalupa Salad - Shrimp, crisp greens, mushrooms, avocado, bacon, hard boiled eggs, cheese, and mile jalapeño vinaigrette dressing, $19.50. The shrimp were nicely seasoned! The dressing was just right. I normally ask for the dressing on the side but forgot. Was glad that the salad wasn't swimming in dressing. The greens were just iceberg lettuce. Fajita Burrito - Steak or chicken (we had steak) - Grilled onions, pepper and refried beans, flour tortilla, topped with red chile sauce, guacamole and sour cream, $20.50. It was just ok for my companion. It was too much of the refried beans and bell peppers. I tasted the fajita steak and it was ok. Service was good. Our server was attentive, checked in on us a few times once we got our food.

Burrito supreme

The burrito was good could have been great if I ordered it all chicken instead of other meats inside that one was on me but it was decent so can't complain came here with friends the place was dark, calm & quiet which is a plus for me, from what I've seen mostly senior citizens as patrons come dine here this place isn't authentic Mexican which is a bummer, our waitress was Marcella she was very friendly and helpful from the moment she saw us walk in she was very on top of things and very communicative , service was quick and accurate we were out of there in under an hour will be coming back in the future

Beef Fajita

Chili Verde: 2-star. Pork is on the salty side, rice is hard, but beans is tasty Beef Fajita: 4-star. (Lunch special which is only $12!) Beef is tender. It's served w/fresh Salsa, Sour cream and guacamole. Corn tortillas is cold-average Flan is not so sweet as of what I prefer. Friend liked her black coffee. Server Luis is very attentive and friendly.

Rigo's signature margarita, chips, and salsa.

I tried this location last night. I was impressed with how clean and welcoming it was. Old school vibe. They had so many speciality drinks; i opted for the Rigo's signature margarita and it was perfect. I sat at the bar as the restaurant wasn't too busy and everyone was so attentive. I was extremely satisfied with the service. I decided to try the 3 item combo so I can get a bit of everything. I got the chili Colorado, chili verde, and chili relleno. All of it was tasty and the plate was large for the price of $20.50. I was only able to eat so much so I took it to go and got another meal out of it. I also tried a variety of their salsas. Their standard salsa served w/the chips is chunky, flavorful, and mild. My favorite was the hot red sauce and the warm tomatillo. Overall, I was very satisfied w/my experience and I'll definitely return.

But some shady charges or maybe we'll call it miscommunication just rubbed me the wrong way. I always order the mole chicken enchiladas and my wife (being vegetarian) asks for the same dish but if the enchiladas can be vegetable or cheese. Apparently this means a 8$ up charge? We've done this many times in the past and always been charged the same price for both. I asked the server at the end "the veggie version is 8$ more expensive than chicken?" And he just shrugged and said yes. Just found it interesting that a meat dish would be 8$ less than a purely cheese/veggie dish. Especially since done this in the past with no issue. I also asked for "hot sauce" for my dish. They brought out a spicier house salsa as the hot sauce...totally understandable and the salsa here is usually free. Apparently it's a 4$ "chipotle sauce" that the waiter did not inform me would be charged. I would've easily just said I want tapatio or no "hot sauce". I used maybe a teaspoon for 4$. I told the waiter this when we questioned the bill and he just shrugged. These may seem like small inconveniences but when they seem like they intentionally don't tell you the details and then when called out about it just kinda shrug it off, it was a disappointing end to an otherwise tasty dinner. We love it here and will certainly be back but it just sucks that I have to be extra cautious & skeptical when ordering from now on.

This place was packed and for our table of 6, we had to wait about 45 minutes. Pro tip (call ahead, you'll be happy you did). But we walked around the cute town and came back with a table waiting for us. To start, I had to try the iconic salad. My mom and her friends raved about how yummy the salad was and I have a sneaking suspicion why. That bad boy is packed to the brim with so much cheese. But yes it was totally yummy. My favorite part is they bring you a whole squirt bottle of vinaigrette dressing. Yes please! I totally understand the hype. The rest of our meal was ok. We got the fajitas which were seasoned great and the tortilla soup was nice. Drinks were totally great! I got the jalapeno margarita and white peach sangria (which had a little fizz - totally appreciated) Pleased with our visit to Espiau's! After trying Chef José's Zacatecan style fare, consider a new addition bullseyed and pinpointed! I'd stumbled in here a few nights ago- Mexico had just defeated a hearty South Korea squad in their second WC game, clinching the Group for El Tri and creating a palpable buzz among the Green/Orange & Red clad partisans who'd thronged El Ranchero... Leti and I shared a bowl of hearty Albondigas Soup to start- This is probably the finest restaurant take on the soup we've ever sampled! Most places will serve watery, tomato/carrot dense broths w/ a nominal, wan meatball. Not El Ranchero! Here, the soup is lovingly ladled w/ copious amounts of carrot, onion, cabbage and yes even a trio of meatballs. Hearty, decadent soup! We also shared a Jamaica Margarita. On the plus side it's $13 tab is decently priced- but if we are honest the drink was weaker than the Trump Administration is on corruption! Leti chose Shrimp Fajitas, which arrived steaming...Multiple fat shrimp partying w/ grilled onions + peppers. I went w/ a two item combo- A fantastic duo of machaca filled enchilada y taco. The machaca was everything you love re: that protein- Stringy, crispy and well seasoned. Xochitl was our server on this late SAT afternoon as the sun began its lazy descent to the western horizon. The rest of the restaurant staff were busily prepping the banquet room for a graduation party- So poor Xoxhitl was jamming like a trio of cats playing w/ a dozen mice. She was even mixing drinks in between serving her sextet of tables! Pro Tip- You can add a side salad or soup to most entrees for $3.99- Just ask! Our bill was $84 and for two plentiful entrees, a large if wan margarita and a side of wondrous, soul-warming soup...plus tax and tip. It's very easy to see why El Ranchero Claremont is a buzzing hub of its community- We've added El Ranchero to our must-visit Mexican staples. So should you.

The "band" ended up being one man performing, so we accepted the explanation and sat elsewhere. It was Taco Tuesday, and we were excited to see fresh tortillas being made. Unfortunately, instead of serving fresh tortillas, they opened the container holding older tortillas and plated those for us. We ordered three different meats, but when our food arrived, every single item was cold. The tortillas were so cold they had become hard and stiff instead of soft and fresh. When we mentioned it to the staff, we were told the food gets cold because they have a fan blowing directly toward it. That's not really an acceptable explanation Between the inconsistent seating, poor customer service, and cold, flavorless food, the experience was extremely disappointing. We left feeling unwelcome, and the food itself was far from the authentic Mexican cuisine we were hoping for. Sadly, we won't be returning.
