From the get go, I should have seen that as a red flag , how is it possible that I was able to book for a party of 8 only a few days before? For starters, the chips and salsa were beyond bland and stale and we were given crumbs...then a very serious topic, my brothers allergy and our request...my brother is severely allergic to avocado and we had made sure to tell them NO AVOCADO. The plate came out with guacamole. The server didn't even bother checking the plate to ensure. Thank god we noticed right away and asked him to take it back. No apology, no real acknowledgment instead he just grabbed the plate and left. Came back with a new plate and said nothing. How do we know they didn't just wipe it off? Then sadly to top it off, every one of our plates were beyond greasy and salty and not in a good way...I'm always down for even legit street tacos but when a restaurant can't even bring out at least one decent plate (we all ordered something different), then HUGE RED FLAG. No TLC in the kitchen... I wanted so badly to speak to the manager and give constructive feedback, looking for nothing in return but rather some advice so we could see this restaurant succeed. It's average mexican food. It doesn't have the hole-in-the-wall feel. You can get better mexican food from a taco truck, for sure. The shredded beef is disappointing, however I tend to get the flautas constantly. The good thing is the lunch specials. Anything on the lunch special menu is pretty good. And the prices cannot be beaten. Rice is good, beans are good. Guac is good, but meat is average. Service is excellent. They really work hard and you never have an empty basket of chips. Ask for the spicy salsa. Even if you don't like spicy foods, it's much better than the original salsa (however the normal salsa is pretty good as well). Place used to be call Don Jose's. Since COVID - they've got family meals and their normal meals for pick up. The menu is a little smaller but nothing big changed. I've sat down for a meal on the patio once and felt relatively safe. Wish the patio was bigger and not in the walkway entrance but that's nothing anyone can change. Love this place regardless. My husband ordered two enchiladas the tortillas were hard the enchilada sauce was the worst canned sauce I have ever tasted and the black beans were definitely canned. My go too is the combination meal. Two chicken enchilada's with rice and beans. The enchiladas are always fully stuffed with chunks of chicken and soaked with delicious red sauce, melted cheeses on top and garnished with chives! My favorite!! My family's favorite is also the steak fajitas which are always sizzling hot and flavorful, and the wet pork burrito. As soon as we get our dishes we go in....so only one picture to share lol. The location used to be Don Jose's so because it was a Mexican restaurant, they didn't make any changes to the place. We came in for a quick bite and margarita to take the edge off from our busy day and were seated quickly. The chips were hot and fresh with salsa that was tasty, not spicy or hot, great chips! I ordered a Cadillac margarita and it was what I needed to feel relaxed after just 1. My friend 1st ordered a mango margarita that looked and tasted like OJ so when we got the servers attention, he changed it for a Cadillac! The restaurant has a lunch menu with some good choices for $8.99 I ordered a burrito (chile verde) and my friend ordered shrimp fajitas for $1+more, both dishes were pretty good and the lunch portion perfect. The place itself could've used an update so nothing spectacular inside except good food, great chips & salsa and Cadillac margaritas with service that could be a little faster and friendlier or perhaps a smile. The place stinks, it's either the dirty carpet or something else. This is NOT real Mexican food. It's all canned food. We ordered a variety of things since it was our first time and it was the worst food ever. The chicken soup is hideous, it smells bad and it's for sure a canned soup. The tortilla chips in the soup were disgusting as well. Then I ordered a taco since they were on special and it was bad. They don't know anything about tacos. The chicken was marinated in a red sauce with lettuce and cheese on top, so gross. Then we had a Chile relleno with rice and beans and that was extremely bad. The rice was packaged as well.
