I'm surprised I have not tried Roka for as long as it has been here but I finally tried it tonight and it was okay. For appetizer we got the calamari which I wouldn't get again. It had no taste whatsoever. I got the Roka Roll and beef and broccoli. The sushi roll was just ok. I think the rice was on the mushy side on the sushi roll. The beef and broccoli was 10/10! I mainly got it to take home as leftover to have for after work. The beef had a nice crisp to it and great flavor. My friend got the beef Bogolgi and I forgot what roll he got. The bogolgi had sweet potatoes noodles which I love. The dish itself reminded me of Japchae which I one of my favorite Korean dishes. If I were to go back again, I'd skip the sushi and go for their rice or noodle dishes. The inside was decorated nicely and reminded me of PF Chang vibes. Our serve was great! It's worth a try but I'm not coming back. The interior design is nice as well as the decor. This is an Asian fusion restaurant, mainly from East Asia, they have Indian food as well, I think. I didn't like any of the the food I've ordered. The flavor and texture missed the mark for me. The only dish I enjoyed was the dessert. Presentation looks really good though. My friend recommended several restaurants for our dinner tonight, and we settled on trying Roka. She'd been several times for their happy hour, but never for dinner. I am so glad she mentioned this place - I cannot wait to go back! Our waitress was video r funny and really attentive, and had a pretty in depth knowledge of their menu. My friends ordered several of her recommendations (the Kung Pao chicken, the Pad Thai, and the Mongolian BBQ) and I ordered the Samurai Roll off of their sushi menu (which was spicy but delicious! Those Fresno peppers were not playing.) Ee also started off the meal with an order of their sriracha cream cheese wontons. Inside, the restaurant is dimly lit with lots of different art pieces on the walls and ceilings. It's very cozy, and works well if you want to be casual or have a nicer, dressed up dinner. There's also a large room in the back for celebrations/large parties! I think their menu was diverse enough to have something for everyone - wok fried dishes, sushi, seafood, noodles, and more. Wow! The food was incredible. I have not been to Roka since pre-covid and I forgot how good it was. Went with 3 friends for lunch. We had some edamame for an appetizer. The spices on it was perfect. For my entree I had the Bulgogi Beef-marinated beef tenderloin, shiitake mushrooms, carrot, green onions, spinach, egg, chilies, all tossed with sweet potato noodles. It was gluten free and spicy. We've come here many times since 2016. We went before it was remodeled. Roka is one of our go-tos for Happy Hour and family birthday get-togethers. Yesterday we were a group of 5 celebrating my wife's birthday. It was a great experience from start to finish. Our server, Sarah, was excellent. Our entree we tried a different type of roll the yakitori roll and it was phenomenal!! Who would have thought that pineapple salsa topped on sushi would be a hit!! Well we really wanted to like this place but oh my gosh this is some of the worst "Japanese food" that I've ever had in my life. 1. The shrimp tempura roll was over cooked mushy rice wrapped around a piece of shrimp that wouldn't be enough to feed a mouse. They were the size of an infants pinky nail. It was god awful. We tried to eat it but could not get past the horrible quality. 2. The tom kah soup had nothing in it, just a cup of broth with one stick of something that felt like wood. 3. The fried rice had zero flavor, there wasn't anything added to the rice except one piece of broccoli. The rice was again mushy and severely over cooked. 4. The Mongolian beef had good flavor but paired with the rice, it was ruined. So disappointed in this experience. Roka is one of my favorite Asian fusion restaurants! I love the intimate atmosphere it provides but also allows room for bringing in large groups (I often see celebratory groups here - birthdays, graduations, you name it!), and I'm a fan of versatility. And they have happy hour!! I've had the kung pao chicken, pad thai, bulgogi beef, kimchi burger, and I've tried the rice paper salmon. I generally liked everything I've had, although I probably would not order the pad thai again. Their sushi also seemed a little rice-heavy, which steers me away from ordering sushi. Among those, the bulgogi beef is my go-to; it's a wonderfully marinated beef with yummy sweet potato noodles and comes with lots of veggies! You wouldn't regret ordering that if you're a noodle maniac like me (it's also just a really big serving that I can never finish). My boyfriend had the kimchi burger, and I couldn't help but take a few bites of my own because it was so tasty too! I like their potstickers and the sauces it came with. We've also had the edamame, which was good, and I would love to come back during happy hour to try some more of the appetizers! While craving Asian fares for dinner, we stopped by Roka to give it a try since they have many positive reviews. Unfortunately it was not up to our expectations. We started with the Korean tacos as recommended by our waiter. The tacos were actually pretty good, decent pork and overall good taste. It was probably our favorite item of the night. We paired it with a cocktail each: I tried the Korean Paloma and my wife got the Lime and Thyme. Both drinks were okay but nothing mind blowing. It's been hard for us to find good cocktails to pair with our meals since our drink standard are those of the great Valkyrie cocktail bar in downtown Tulsa. Now the worst part of the meal was the main dish for me. I picked the Thai Green Curry. The broth was not too bad, nothing authentic by any means but the worse part of the dish are the shrimps. They are minuscule and very dry, clearly looked and tasted like they were from the bags in the frozen section at your cheap grocery store. I understand it's hard to get fresh shrimp around here but I have seen much better previously frozen shrimps at many local stores.
