Like bagels, quiches, breakfast scrambles, pastries, gluten free options which i can appreciate. Just wanted to update that time has passed since my first review and the non-caring baristas and workers are still shining. Maybe they hire people here that are family friends so they don't care how personable they are... I came in with a BOOK and LAPTOP (came a few times already, they can figure it out) and after I bought my usual French press and Bagel, I turn on my computer and there is NO Wi-Fi. Thought it was my computer at first but I went up to ask for the password and the guy nonchalantly said "oh yea our WiFi hasn't been working..." They need to set up a sign if that's the case and also let their patrons know. How many people wasted time because of their lack of service? This place doesn't change. Used to utterly love this place for breakfast. Now the sourdough and wheat bread used for toast is dry or even stale, there is only cooking (unsalted) butter to put on toast, eggs are tasteless, barely any berries put on the breakfast plate, mocha is always served tepid rather than hot and in a paper cup even when dining in instead of a mug. This is one of my favorite coffee shops in the LA area. The interior is very cute, with dark walls, bookshelf wallpaper, and comfy seats. They have 3 or 4 tables outside under a shaded awning as well, which is perfect for soaking in the sunshine. The pastry case is what keeps me coming back. The selection is always excellent, with cakes, homemade poptarts, muffins, scones, and more. The selection rotates so there's always something new to try and everything tastes absolutely amazing. The only negative aspects of the place is that they have no outlets, so I can't come to work on my laptop for extended periods of time- they also have a 90 minute table limit, which makes me think they are trying to specifically discourage people working there. I can't come here to work on paper edits and reward myself with a pastry every couple hours, which is what I really wanted to do. The other negative is that they have no flavors for there lattes. A delight! I was shopping in Burbank and decided to kick off the morning with some coffee on their patio. I had the Spengler mocha and avocado toast. Both were great--the coffee definitely better than the avocado toast though I did like that the avocado toast had chili flakes on it which gave it a nice kick. Very nice spot! read more

Great place. We stumbled on this cafe a few weeks ago when the Cafe we usually grab coffee at had no seating available. And we've come back at least 3 times per week. Coffee is great, barista art and foam is on point. Juices are really good and made to order. And their food and pastries are great. For a neighborhood Cafe, it can't be beat. My only criticisms are that they serve their food on cracked up, broken plates. Really looks crappy and is a bad look for the business. You guys need to get new dishware. And the bathroom sink is one of the dirtiest sinks I've ever seen in a restaurant. Not sure what's going on with that, but some bleach and a metal scrub brush would really come in handy there. Just use the restroom at your house and you're good. All else is great though. Definitely recommend. read more

We have visited Romancing the Bean and the sister restaurant New Deal dozens and dozens of times. The food is always outstanding and the service at New Deal is outstanding and at Romancing the Bean service is generally fair to good, until today. Today at Romancing the Bean we experienced the worst in service that we have ever faced. Today at approximately 11:25 am we pulled up on our bikes to order breakfast for both of us. We always ride our bikes to both restaurants as we live locally. My wife went inside and tried to order some granola for me and was informed that the restaurant was out of granola. My wife then came back outside to see what I wanted to order then back inside at I suppose 11:31am to order a breakfast croissant where she was now informed by the same girl who has advised my wife that they were out of granola saying WE NO LONGER ARE SERVING BREAKFAST after 11:30am during the week! Are you kidding me? Being treated like a random McDonald's drive thru customer is unacceptable, totally. As we have always enjoyed visiting both restaurants we will see if we can get past this latest obnoxious treatment. But, for today, we continued our bike ride west on Magnolia and spent our money enjoying another local family owned restaurant. We support all local Burbank small business. read more

I came here for a coffee a while ago when I was in the area; I thought it had a cute name and I'm all about supporting smaller coffee shops. Parking is easy to find, either on Magnolia or the street right off of it. When I walked in, to my surprise, the coffee shop was much larger than expected inside. The space is longer than it is wide, if that makes sense. They also have a couple tables outside, too. I was really enticed by the pastries and baked goodies behind the counter, which all sounded and looked divine. But, I only got a coffee. They have coffee, tea, smoothies, and I noticed they had lots of food on the menu too - wraps, sandwiches/paninis, and salads. I came here for a work lunch today and was excited to finally try out the food. I went on Yelp and it looked like a lot of people loved the Kale & Brussel Sprouts Salad. I decided to try that out and I ordered it with chicken. I honestly don't think I would order this again. It was so uncomfortable to eat because the salad had baby kale leaves with long stems, so I felt like the messiest person ever eating this salad. Whenever I took a bite, I had stems sticking out of my mouth that I had to push in. I felt like an animal haha. The things I did enjoy about it... the almonds, the parmesan. The chicken wasn't seasoned, but I guess that means it's much healthier that way. I wish the dressing had more of a mustard kick to it and wish it was dressed just the slightest bit more. The tables inside are marble and it's a cute place overall. I would come back here to read a book and order a coffee. Maybe I'll finally try one of those pastries! When I don't feel like waiting the long lines at Porto's on Hollywood way, this place is my go to since it's walking distance for me. I love their cold brews, and they have the best chai tea latte, seriously no where else compares. And they also have coffee ice cubes for a pick-me-up if I don't wanna go the full espresso shot. Well how pretty! The smell when you walk in this place is so pleasing. Their mirrored walls and flowers everywhere! I'm saying fresh floral decorations. The food is phenomenal, very healthy, and good sized portions ... FINALLY! Staff is friendly and knowledgeable as well. This a solid place to go for socializing and/or studying. Comfortable seating and the food is very good. It does get loud and crowded on the weekends, which is not a complaint but a testament to their quality. But it does make studying a bit more difficult at times. There's just one complaint and it really annoyed me. They ask for tips. This, in and of itself, is not a problem. It never hurts to ask. However, the only thing they bring to you is your hot food. Drinks and pastries, you're up and grabbing from them yourself. They bring your food on nice, but heavy, plates and then, this is what pushed me over the edge, they want you to bus your own table. I'm carrying heavy plates and a glass mug to the bus bin and leaving a trail of silverware along the way while paying a 20% tip. I should be clear that I have no problem tipping for great service. I also have no problem cleaning up after myself. I do have a problem doing both. Don't tip this place until they start bussing tables at a bare minimum. read more

BEWARE I don't ever leave bad reviews, but I saw too many SANITARY VIOLATIONS that were concerning for those that eat here. NO use of GLOVES. I observed staff using their hands to touch food items. Maybe this is normal, but as the girl was doing so she was touching her phone too which I find concerning. Right after I observed the above I saw a male in the kitchen scoop up the garnish from one plate and add it to another (looked like it was fruit and mint leaves). This seems to be normal because I was standing right near the pick up area and there were customers nearby, but the cook(?) didn't seem to worry that people could see this and made no attempt to be discreet. I was shocked. Hopefully sharing this could alert management that the kitchen staff need some training on keeping food safe for customers. read more

Romancing the Bean: where have you been all my life!? This was the first time I've been to this location, even though I've driven past it dozens of times. I was in the area this morning and super hungry for brunch, so I looked on my handy Yelp app and found RTB! Parking is easy on the street - at least it was for me. Since it's a dense area of eateries, I can see if there may be a wait to park, but anyone will find their spot. Eventually. There are three tables outside along with a long bench, and the inside has both community tables and small booths. As I was alone, I opted for the counter that faces the window since I love to people watch. There is another counter that faces the menu board. The decor is very cute, modern and classic sheik of blacks and whites with a huge, cool blackboard with the menu. Service is fine and courteous in light of the busy morning. On average, dishes go from the $8-$15 range, depending of you add a protein or not. Breakfast goes to 11am weekdays and 11:30am on weekends so I opted for the breakfast burrito with prosciutto and an iced vanilla latte, served in a handy mason jar. There is a side table off the cashier to add sweeteners, etc. The latte was "ok." But I was warned the vanilla was sugar free so it didn't have that sweet kick I'm used to. The burrito seems small but is SO filling! Maybe it was the protein that gave it a nice kick - very good. It came with sauce on the side as well as a few pieces of fruit. Note that you get a number and your food is brought to you. I'll definitely be back here since I'm curious to try the lunch menu. The mocha and other flavored drinks get pretty sweet so I recommend you let them know if you want a lesser amount. MATCHA LATTE (5/5): Today was the first time in years that I finally gave their matcha latte a try. Delicious, foamy, creamy, frothy, and sweetened with vanilla....I loved it! The drink actually had a very fragrant taste and flavor and it really added a kick to the experience. I'd recommend this for the matcha lovers. Needed a solid work place in Burbank and this does the trick. There are surprisingly not that many cafes in Burbank where you can sit and do work and not be in a chain restaurant/cafe. Major con is the 2hr parking. Clearly not their fault, but when I finally got into a groove it was time to play hide and seek with parking enforcement. Got the kids grilled turkey and cheese and a cold brew w/ coffee ice cubes. Both solid, nothing memorable. Still got a little sad my bill was $15 - inc tip. Some of the chairs are almost too comfortable to be productive. Outlets are pretty nicely spread throughout so if you can find a seat for the most part you'll be near an outlet. Staff was great, Tyler was so friendly and answered all my silly questions. It's a bit on the louder side as well so headphones are a must or you really can't do anything here but eat and talk -- which I bet is what they want most of their patrons to do anyway now that I think about it! :D read more

We were visiting from out of town and thought we would try this cute spot out. The decor was fun and hipster. The almond croissant was everything I wanted it to be and more with a delicious almond and almost cherry tasting center, my wife said the blueberry muffin was delicious with a lemon flavoring. The avocado toast was pretty good too (incorporating actual flower petals was an interesting twist) although there could have been some more flavor. The coffee was not as good as my wife was expecting. She stated that she felt like they had "burned the shots" in her hot latte and that she shouldn't have asked for less syrup due to the underwhelming amount of flavor. She did say, however, that the Australian origin coffee beans still brought a robust flavor despite tasting somewhat burnt. My iced latte was not as in-my-face bursting with flavor as I would have expected from a fall flavored drink but this was a nice surprise as I often ask for a tad too much syrup with my coffee drinks. The staff was very friendly and kindly offered suggestions per our request. They did have a steady customer count which may account for the burnt shots. I actually feel bad giving this place a bad review because the staff is very nice, and I will also say that it was busy when I went in but overall I was extremely disappointed. I was looking forward to eating here based on all the great reviews, unfortunately I will not be back. I went in last Saturday with my daughter and her friend. We ordered a turkey sandwich, a grilled cheese, a salmon rollup, a strawberry smoothie, and a mint iced tea, the total came to $78. The salmon rollup was pretty decent though the ratio of salmon to lettuce was absurd, it was a thin slice of salmon and just a ridiculous amount of lettuce. I get that everything is more expensive these days but $15 should get me more than a lettuce rollup with a dash of salmon. The grilled cheese was fine, but that's it, just fine. I honestly could have made one better myself at home but whatever. The turkey sandwich was just sad. It was so obviously just thrown together. The cilantro mayo was nearly nonexistent and I ended up asking for a side of mayo. In fact I actually ended up remaking the entire sandwich just so I could eat it. The lettuce was mixed greens thrown on and of course they just fell out of the sandwich. The cheese...laughable. And the turkey slices were just slapped onto the bread. There was no care or thought to this sandwich whatsoever and for $15 you should at least pretend to care that an actual human being is going to be eating it. Also, and this was so weird, the strawberry smoothie did not taste like anything remotely strawberry. It actually had no flavor and then it tasted like a graham cracker. When my daughter said that to me and I absolutely did not believe her, then I took a sip, then her friend took a sip and she was dead right: it tasted like nothing and then weirdly graham cracker-y. It was so bizarre we just laughed. We ended up throwing it out but honestly, tossing a $9 smoothie is never fun. I get that this place is supposed to be cool (the very loud music lets you know that) but I'm past that in my life. I just want to enjoy a nice sandwich and not spend nearly $80 on crap. I've come here for brunch and I've come here to do work. It's such good space! From the comfy seats to the abundance of choices for pastries with wifi to top it all off. It's a coffee lovers perfect afternoon. It could get a little crowded but because of how big the place is (in my opinion), there will always be someone leaving as someone comes in leaving an empty seat every time. Their menu is pretty vast but it has room for different types of foodies and brunch fiends! I've been addicted to lavender everything lately so it was a great plus that they were able to make me an iced lavender latte which was delicious! It doesn't taste like soap or flowers, believe me! Service is great. They bus the open seats pretty quickly & food gets served with just the right amount of time. The coffee is pretty good, however, this is a low integrity business. They advertise two prices for their coffees depending on the size. E.g. the cold brew was listed for $4.00 for the smaller size and $4.75 for the larger size. I ordered the small and they charged me $4.75. When I said something about it, the manager was irritated and refused to honor the lower price and said, "sorry the prices are handwritten on our chalkboard and it's hard to update them". Another time I ordered the steel cut oats per the chalkboard in the coffee shop. They served me instant oats. Again, when i said something about it, the worker sort of just shrugged her shoulders and didn't do anything to make it right or even acknowledge the situation. There is no issue charging the prices you want or serving the foods you want, however, it is wrong to advertise otherwise and do nothing to make it right when the customer says something about it. read more

This being said they are one the first places I knew to offer macadamia milk which is amazing. It was so bad it is incredible they reference "romancing the (coffee) bean" in their name. The cafe au lait essentially tastes of lukewarm milk foam that someone who drank coffee coughed on. I cherish every moment spent in front of authentic coffee. I had plenty of such moments here at RTB. My drink of preference (read: I would kill for it) is a Cubano, which is The Drink of Kings when made in a La Marzocco espresso machine. Here at RTB, they won't put raw sugar in the portable filter, probably because the company doing maintenance says it pits the screen. Nonsense! But I am flexible, as long as there's something else interesting if not good. On this day, interesting and good were there in spades with an "Affogato," a ristretto double over whipped cream with drizzled mocha and cinnamon. I forget the cost, but it was remarkable AND interesting AND good! Ristretto is a shorter pull...less water and more complex flavors. Added to whipped (normally sacrilegious) and some of that other stuff, it was a nice way to start off my day. I would not try it again, but I would come back to RTB over and over until I forgot I tried it and got excited to try it all over again. read more
