Romancing the bean? Or the wallet? Had bookmarked this place for a while and finally got the chance to stop by. Because if their high reviews and great pics I had high expectations. It was a bit of disappointment. The set up is a bit confusing specially for first timers. You are suppose to order, pay and tip, they give you a number and then you pick up your food. You pour your own water, grab your own table that by the way are way too close to each other. The girl sitting next to me had hard time getting out without bumping my table and then when I left my whole behind was on top of the other table, good thing no one was sitting there. I was hoping for unique brews or lattes but nothing different from intelligentsia or Starbucks. I was craving a scone and they didn't have any, it was only 11 am, not sure how many they bake that they would run out. I opted for their cheese danish with coffees crumble. It was very stale and hard to bite in. I also ordered an affogato and it was ok, you can't go wrong with ice cream and espresso. I sat there trying to really enjoy the vibe, decor and food but it was hard to because of their dark decor, tables are too close, didn't have what I wanted, very pricey for what it is. Ok, this is somewhat limited in terms of reviews, I just had their coffee. I will say I will definately come back here. The coffee was great! I'm pretty straight forward, I like my coffee black, strong, tasty, and without a lot of bitter aftertaste that is just accepted at the big 2 coffee places all over the country. Many shops I've been to forget the basics, they are pouring coffee. Their food looked really good, I just wasn't really hungry. The place has a warm, old fashioned and comfortable interior with a mix of chairs and stone table tops. It was great for an informal business meeting. I've gone to Romancing the bean several times over the past couple of years and am writing this post now because of constantly sub par results, sadly Positives-very tasty food and drinks & one constantly friendly cashier (gentleman with blond tipped hair) Needs improvement- -the place is Dusty/dirty; walls, cupboards, ceilings (all near the open pastries) -lack of urgency to make coffee drinks -general unfriendliness from most of the staff which makes for a poor experience especially for the price points read more

My go-to cafe when I visit Magnolia St. in Burbank. Great atmosphere and everyone's super friendly. I highly recommend any of their lattes especially if they have a seasonal latte available. Try the almond milk! Food- I highly recommend their brie and apple sammie and their roasted seasonal vegetable sammie for vegetarians. The breakfast sandwich is good but forgettable for vegetarians so I'd pass on that one. read more

It was my first time at this cafe. My friends and I decided to come here on Sunday for brunch. First, the atmosphere is actually very cute. It's a small cafe type with some communal seating and some individual - two seater places. The food selection is a limited, but enough for a light breakfast or lunch. I ordered the spinach quiche with goat cheese, which was great, but when it arrived it came with 4 slices of bananas, 2 blueberries, 2 raspberries, 2 blackberries (yes it felt very rationed). It was supposed to come with a side salad, I got 4 leaves of a standard mix greens from a box from the market. I even asked the waiter where the side salad was and he just laughed and said they would add more. They should considering I paid $15 for it (pic is below so know you will spend and possibly walk away hungry). My friend got an egg burrito that they forgot about and then shrugged off and was made 30 minutes later. Needless to say service is poor as the hipster/stoner staff seems more all over the place rather than there to accommodate. Overall, wish I liked my experience enough to go back, but between overpriced limited food and sluggish staff ambience just isn't enough to go back. Came here for cup and ended up having their bagel breakfast. To my surprised, it was good. Of course, I enjoyed the coffee too. The environment is nice and the staff are great. Cool name and great cold brew! I thought it was clever. It's a funky place, they turn off the Internet everyday from 11-2ish to promote socialization. Kinda cool idea. So while you romance your beans you can also romance someone else's beans too! A friend of mine brought me here because I requested coffee before our Disneyland adventure. For whatever reason, people make fun of me for ordering cold brews because it's a "hipster" drink. Little do they know that cold brew is actually a tasty way to enjoy coffee. I've come across various coffee huts in many different cities that make cold half ass brews with little to no difference to iced coffee. That really chaps my ass because good coffee shouldn't be taken lightly. Quite literally. It should be patiently brewed with no heat and gently pressed 24-48 hours later. It is inside of that patience, that the most delicious caramel, velvet delight is conceived. Now I use regular coffee beans from Costco (Kirkland) and I'm able to brew up some sexy cold ones, so when I taste a brew that meets or exceeds my expectations, I tend to fall in love. I went to Romancing the Bean on a whim after Bea Bea's was full. My friend and I drove by and it looked cute so we decided to go inside. Once we got inside it was much bigger than I'd thought from the looks of the outside. The ambiance was cute and it was actually quite busy. We went to the counter and looked at the menu. I decided on the acai bowl and he went with the breakfast burrito. We also got 2 iced coffees. The downside to the coffee was there were no lids. I asked an employee at the front counter for a lid and she looked at me like I was crazy. She said they don't have lids and wandered off. However they did have paper straws so yay for the environment! We got our food not too long after and my acai bowl was really good. It had fresh bananas, raspberries and granola. His breakfast burrito left much to be desired. He had decided on egg and cheese and for the price we felt it wasn't worth it. I would come back for the coffee, the acai bowl and their pastries looked good as well. The place is also really cute to grab a coffee with a friend. I ended up getting a hot coffee lid but from other reviews I see they do have lids for iced drinks. Stranger things.... read more

This is my second time here and I love it! I got to try a latte and the black and white mocha which was delicious! Plus I have a habit of trying a croissants at every coffee shop and I got to tell you the almond croissants was tasty. The place has like this cool coffee shop vibe super LA scene. It's a great place for first date, second date and any other date, it's got outside patio seating and plenty of chairs inside. Now I have not tried the breakfast or the salads here but I'll try it next time they look real healthy. read more

The cafe is really cute, the decore is super funky and unique. They have a large community table and other mini tables. They also have seating outside. The parking is pretty good- you can do metered or around the residential areas for 2 hours. I did not order food, so I cannot review if that aspect was good or not. The coffee however, not good. I'm very VERY into my coffee and can easily tell the difference between good espresso roasts. My mocha latte tasted like it was sweetened with chocolate fudge sauce from the 99 cents store. No offense, but it was horrible. It totally overpowered the latte and I had asked for less mocha sauce beforehand. I can't imagine if I hadn't. BLAH. I ended up ordering a plain latte and again blah. But then again, that's just me. I live for GOOD coffee. Other than that, employees were super nice, there is free wifi, and it's a cute place to get some work done. read more

I love this place. Best coffee out of the many coffee options up and down Magnolia. Great space to write, read, or chat with people. Excellent food as well, particularly for breakfast. Friendly staff too. Honestly, this is really a 4.95 star review. I only have one complaint that I do feel I need to call out: the music. Namely, every time I go, they are always playing the same three Sade songs. Like every day, and literally the same songs. Since I've started going to songwriting school in Burbank, I've been exploring more places in that part of L.A. I usually try to get to that area earlier so that I don't have to fight the traffic getting to my evening classes. Romancing the Bean is one place I had visited and have gone back several times now. The vibe there is really comfortable and the people working here are cool and very friendly, always smiling and taking away dirty glasses and dishes when you're done. I've had a few items there such as their Raw Cacao Shake which was really refreshing on the area's warmer days. It wasn't overly sweet and I could taste the cacao nibs. Delicious! On another occasion, I've had the Kale and Brussel Sprouts salad. This was really good. Next time I'll add chicken and I know it will make this salad even better. Even without the chicken though, it was a really satisfying meal. Yumz! Although, I did have a French press coffee this week and it was a tad bit too gritty. They need to learn that for French presses, you grind the beans coarse so that the beans gets filtered and don't end up in your cup of coffee. Blech! On another visit, I ordered their Sencha Green Tea which was nice to drink too and to top it off, they give free refills for the teas. Yay! Free wifi is available and parking is street but usually easily found. I've sort of made this place my oasis in the valley because I've had great experiences every time I'm there. Once I'm off my dietary restriction, I'm going to try the Bacon Bread Pudding that I saw in the display case as well as their huge chocolate cake. I was very, very glad that I found this place before we started our Burbank Art Festival. When we entered the place, it gave me the 'oh my god, this place is adorably cute!' When you walk in, you'll see the menu on your left and tables with the one side booth and mirrors hanging from the wall. (sounds a bit dangerous, but those mirrors should be tacked down tightly) During the Burbank Art Festival, there was a band playing indoors. A bit crowded but we made our way through. Many people stayed in at the shop keeping themselves warm with a warm drink. As we got to the front of the line, we ordered a hot Chai soy latte. Boy was that yummy. Cinnamon taste and soy milk combined? Yums! Cute place to hang out with your girlfriends if you're in downtown Burbank. Cute little spot on Magnolia, after passing Priscilla's and Porto's, and both being entirely too crowded I needed a latte and quick, I remembered my Mom mentioning Romancing the Bean so I drove right over - parked out front (gotta love Burbank, no meters to pay) They were pretty busy, with almost every seat being taken (so many folks working on their laptops and a few friends/families) but I was only ordering a latte and a pastry to try so I ordered to-go. The raspberry almond pop tart was delightful and my iced non fat latte was great. I look forward to trying their popular dirty chai and a bunch of other yummies in here. Yes it is a bit pricey, but they have some of the best coffee ever! Located next to one of my favorite places to shop, I can't help but stop in here every time I am in the area, i get cravings for their blended mocha and my husband loves their blended caramel, the quality is fantastic and it is made so well, sweet, but you still taste the coffee, it's perfection on a hot day in the valley, which is always. Service is nice, they get pretty busy so there can be a bit of a wait, but there is plenty of seating and the decor is nice, slightly elegant, but simple, clean and great place to lounge and relax for a bit. No chance to try anything else on the menu yet, but all the food I see coming out of their open kitchen looks great, I'll keep coming back for the mocha! read more

So, I payed $6.00 for a regular size iced mocha with lavender, made with almond milk. Now, I don't actually think they gave me almond milk because it tasted completely like whole milk. It was really delicious though. I also got the Apple & Brie Sandwich with carmelized onions. It came with a small side salad with edible flowers, very pretty look at. The sandwich was good but I don't think it was worth $8.75. I can be cheap sometimes though :P The decor is really cute and classy/fancy. Chandeliers, cursive writing on a large chalkboard menu, marble tables, etc. I really loved the drink I got but I really wish I knew if almond milk was actually used. I'm gonna go back and order it again to make sure they use it, to see if I notice a difference! I guess the almond milk is homemade so it sounds delicious! Wanted to get a nice coffee on this lovely Sunday afternoon while we were out and about. We stopped here due to the huge queue at Porto's. We ordered 2 lattes, slightly expensive but decent sized cups. Sadly the lattes were very weak and didn't taste of coffee and my wife said hers didn't taste good either. For the price it should be much better!! It's a pretentious kind of place that is trying to be fancy. Quite an odd but comfortable place but with way too much wasted floor space. They also switch the wifi off between 12-3 which seems silly. Shame they didn't have a happy hour like Republic of Pie then it wouldn't have felt like such a waste of money. Blaaaacccck and white! Did you play that game when you were young to choose teams? That's what I think of now when I think of Romancing the Bean Cafe. The place is located close to the Burbank airport, which is why I stopped by. Never been and was craving some caffeine so while I waited for my sister to arrive, I drove down to the cafe. It is on a big street so you can't miss it. Parking is available up the street so I suggest doing that. Ambiance felt very upscale hipster but also chic. You have dark, contemporary colors and large mirrors. As for the drinks, I went with the black and white, which if I remember correctly is white AND dark chocolate with a shot of espresso. I thoroughly enjoyed my drink. The chocolate was smooth and even though you can't taste the difference in chocolates, it worked well with the espresso shot. The espresso shot wasn't strong so it's essentially a hot chocolate. I would've liked it hotter but it was ready to drink (I guess...that's a plus). Will definitely be coming back to try the other drinks, the sandwiches, or the ice creams if I am in the area or waiting for someone to arrive from Burbank airport. So as for the 4 stars and not the five, I have to say the server wasn't particularly friendly. He wasn't mean but he also wasn't service-oriented and I felt a bit rushed in getting an order in. I tried this darling little cafe twice! Once for breakfast, and once for a private event. I was invited to a private event, and wondered where it was & how I had missed this place for three years! So I decided to swing by a week before the event to check it out. And I was pleasantly surprised! Enchanting little place! I absolutely love it!!!!!! Service is awesome. On a Sunday I asked for some changes on my order and they were so accommodating. But even if they weren't I would have understood. But they did! The decor is NICE! Trendy with a touch of rustic- but posh ambiance. Yes, you will see it when you go and then will agree with me. Oh must try the cappuccino was delicious! Now for the private event- so well put together-, I was lucky to taste the chicken curry, a must. The salmon tartare with fresh dill, a must must! And in t he evening the decor was even lovelier, little mason jars were adorned by ranunculus and roses and some greens, bare trees lit inviting a second look. I met the charming young lady who had done some of the interior decorating - kudos to her and the chef/owner! Don't forget to check out their bathroom! Having grown up in Burbank I still visit often, but things have changed a lot since I moved away in the late 90's so when when my cousins and I were looking for a place to rendezvous one Saturday afternoon I consulted Yelp (because I like supporting local places as opposed to Starbucks and Coffee Bean) and wallah... Yelp led me to Romancing the Bean. Romancing the Bean turned out the be the perfect spot for us to catch up. I loved how spacious it was and how the entire place was decorated. It just made me want to stay there all day. It wasn't crowded and it wasn't loud so we could actually hear each other and have conversations (actually we were probably the obnoxious loud people annoying the other people who were trying to read or study because we were being bombastic and laughing a lot) I know for a fact that we'll be back! We had some beverages and delicious baked goods from their tempting dessert case, but I look forward to trying some of their breakfast/lunch menu items. Street parking is easy to find and there are a bunch of cute little antique and resale shops within walking distance so this is a great place to spend a couple hours. read more

Since I am a non-dairy person, having the option of almond milk over soy is always a plus. More coffee houses should follow suit on this one. I've had a pressed sammie and also their house salad, both of which were delicious. They also have different soups each day, so I'm going to try soup next time I go. They offer a great looking selection of baked goods from Cake Monkey. I think they have another bakery service, but don't remember exactly which one. First let me say, the few cashiers have always been helpful and humble. The coffee is affecting their rating here with me. I was a barista in New Zealand and Australia. Both pride in their amazing espressos and coffees. I also ran a very popular juice and coffee bar of my own for 3 years here in LA. Their latte here was lacking in flavor, and was improperly made. Nothing kills my experience at a supposed coffee shop more than bad coffee. The milk was over steamed, wasn't mixed with the espresso properly, and was bitter from being burnt. That for me is something that I know happens in the run of a 100 coffees a day, but it's the 3rd time now. Why is it so hard for most coffee shops in LA to serve a great late! If you want killer coffee- lattes- and caps, with amazing food, pies, sammys, and service: goto REPUBLIC OF PIE. They are the best on this side of the hill. Trust. They also have live music and an open bakery. Go enjoy a great atmosphere WITH the coffee you deserve. read more

Okay I just reread my last review and that cup of coffee mutsa been pretty bad because I was harshhhh.... today I was in desperate need of nourishment so I popped into Romancing the Bean (which is next door to my shoe guy where I was dropping off a faulty pump) and picked up a Pressed Veggie Sandwich to go. Service was great and the sandwich was pretty good! I believe it was $10.75 (incl. the $1 upcharge for gluten free bread and tax) and I think it was worth it. They have a few things on their menu that sounds delicious. The ingredients tasted fresh and it was a good portion. So I would go back for a sammie or some other food (but prob still not for the coffee). I love a Yelp upgrade moment! read more
