Arriving right at prime time dinner time (8pm) on Friday night, Ronnie Sushi was packed when we arrived. The decor is cool and dark. We had hoped to sit at the bar, as it had been recommend by someone we met at the airport. "Go to Ronnie Sushi, on Jewel Lake Road. Sit at the bar and eat whatever they tell you to, Trust Me". How can you not trust a guy wearing enough gold to be Mr. T? The bar was packed though, and everyone seemed like they were having a great time. Before your real food arrives you will be provided with water, miso soup, and salad to satiate your hunger. I got the I Love Tuna Roll which was good & fresh, and they had... GLUTEN FREE soy sauce! Which was very exciting. My husband got the much flashier White Snake Roll. Not going to lie here, his roll was a lot more instagram-able (I was a little bit jealous). I try to experience each restraint multiple times before I do a review. I will say I've been nothing but impressed with Ronnie's. Although their food is amazing, their customer service is not great. I attended with a group of friends, and we were treated very poorly by the server as she kept making snarky remarks. Not only that, but she was quite ill mannered when it came to timing. We waited around 40 minutes for our food, which I didn't think of much at first, because I tend to try be very patient, until a group who ordered after us got their food first. Our server denied us our dessert, as it was "too busy", but as paying customers, we had a right to dessert, especially since my mother's table - which was a bit farther from us, was allowed to order dessert. It did not seem that busy from what me and my friends observed, so it was quite odd. I inquired about the Salomon being fresh or wild caught and received attitude about asking the question. We were very cold and I had long sleeve sweatshirt on. Anyways, we ordered a crunch roll, the Ronnie roll, and another one that was such. We also got edamame and an order of tempura vegetables both complimentary which was nice. The Ronnie roll was basically identical to a crunch roll except it had bulgogi beef with a nice sauce on it. Love returning to places you love and they don't change! (In a good way) Service is always friendly & the sushi is always tasty. On our recent visit, we ordered 3 apps, sake & 2 beers to start, followed by 4 rolls. We only got 3 of the rolls for most of the dinner which led us to second guess if we ordered the 4th or if the waitress just forgot... My boyfriend & I then ordered 2 more beers ( one each which would be our 2nd beer ) while we waited/ate... she made a comment towards our drink order kind of suggesting we only got 1 more and if we were sure. Our family tried out this place for dinner and was disappointed with the service. We placed our 3 orders and waited over 50mins for our last order. When we asked why it took over 50mins for one plate she had no answer. We asked if they can comp the late dish and they said no. I asked, does it normally take an hour to make the dish I ordered and server couldn't answer. Vegan review, the prices were really good! Service was fantastic! We got the avocado roll, cucumber roll, and the vegitarian roll. Only reason it was not 5 stars: In the vegitarian roll, the asparagus was not fresh. It was canned asparagus or at least it looked canned. The mango was not ripe. I asked the server if the fry was eggs free and dairy free (I said I was allergic to dairy, eggs, and was vegitarian since a lot of asian resturants dont know what vegan means). She was not sure and did not ask the kitchen staff. I would make this a 5 star review if they could recommend menu items that could become vegan since I like to try new things. I would want all the veggies not canned and fruit ripe. Another recommended but dont really need is the menu have labels gf, VG, and V for vegan. Also have a vegan dessert. read more

Living in Vancouver, I've been spoiled with some pretty darn good sushi. So whenever I leave, I expect anything else to be average (not to be harsh). However, I was really impressed with Ronnies. I used to come here when I was high school back in the day, but I don't remember it being a go-to or over-the-top sushi spot. Boy, have they gotten a makeover since I've left Anchorage. Their restaurant is a lot smaller now, with less tables. But their interior is MUCH nicer. They now have modern decor and dark lighting for ambiance, which is different from their previous, minimalist decor and bright lighting. Their service is very friendly and quick, and we were able to get our food within 10 minutes of ordering (wow!). I ordered the Dinner Box #1, which consisted of chicken teriyaki w/ rice, crunch rolls, and an assortment of tempura. Everything I wanted in a box - how convenient! We also got miso soup and a salad that came with our meal. The box was the perfect amount of food. Granted, I was stuffed after finishing it, but it was nothing short of great. A decent place for sushi on the south side of Anchorage, which can be seriously lacking in tasty places. They got rid of my favorite roll here in recent years, which is disappointing, but most of the others are still good and a decent size. My main issue here has always been service, which has been surprising and disappointing since the word of mouth for this place had always been (or used to be) that they were SUPER friendly and attentive. But maybe you need to be a consistent regular to achieve that level of care. No matter if it's for lunch or dinner, alone or with a group, I'm used to waiting far past when we're ready to order and going without water much more than anyone who orders spicy rolls should. All in all, it's not my first choice, but if you live far west down Dimond and want some sushi on your way home, this will do in a pinch. read more

We haven't had sushi since we moved back from Japan in March - so we were honestly a bit hesitant to eat sushi again. But Ronnie sushi was definitely worth visiting. We tried the Spicy Tuna Roll, the Rainbow Roll, and the Caterpillar Roll. While it wasn't 100% authentic & more expensive than we're used to, we can't deny the delicious factor. Would NOT recommend...mediocre food, rude service I've been coming here for over three years now. I usually bring visiting friends and family here when craving some sushi. My wife and I came in kind of late (9:50pm, closing time: 11:00pm). The food last night was pretty rough. This is the second visit in a row where the food seemed a bit off. I actually did not finish my food this time since I did not want to risk getting sick (I did not end up getting sick btw). The service this time was pretty bad too. Our waitress was rude and threw menus at us without saying a word. I gave her the benefit of the doubt though and actually left her a tip despite the rude service. We all have off days you never know what someone else is going through. I'll happily spend my $$ elsewhere from now on. Best of luck to Ronnie Sushi...they are going to need it. P.S. Ronnie looks smaller on the outside than on the inside. It's very unassuming and kinda dicey until you walk in. You're greeted the moment you enter with warm smiles. Today there was almost no one there at the time we went so we sat ourselves. Menu is pretty straight forward and there really is a lot of different rolls to choose from. We tried the crunch roll, open your mouth roll, beef yakisoba, and fried udon. Both noodle dishes were very flavorful! Full of veggies and not super saucy or oily. The crunch roll was extremely bland considering the size of the roll itself and the shrimp used. I personally hate to pay per roll. I don't know how they do it in Alaska, but where I moved from, all you can eat is a normal thing and not hard to find. At ten dollars a roll you are really getting your money's worth size wise. I just wish there was a tad more pizazz. The open your mouth roll on the other hand was amazing!! Great service, fairly affordable, but still kinda expensive. If that even makes sense. It's a ton of food. We currently have two boxes of leftovers. Lol. The only reason they didn't get 5 stars is just because of how dark it is in there. The sun is finally out, let it in! And the starter soup was way salty. The salad, I already forgot what it tasted like, but I know I didn't like it. Lol. I'll be back though!! read more

I arrived with a friend 9pm dinner time. The restaurant seemed nice on from the outside and was exited to eat at this restaurant. Service is somewhat poor at this hour when it is quite busy. Right off the bat I noticed the multitude of placards and pictures from various famous people and was caught off guard with one in particular, Ron Jeremy; the famous 1980's porn film actor. This from the bat put a sour taste in my mouth as I dont want to be thinking about fellatio while eating dinner. I figured, no big deal being theirs other actors and pictures, however this was the first one at eye level. Upon being seated and opening up the menu I notice a Sushi roll named 'Viagra' roll. This once again put a sour taste in my mouth. Not only did they plaster a porn star actor at eye level at the entrance and exit to this establishment; it was now buried within the menu. Onto the food, I ordered my roll like normal and the complimentary Miso soup tasted store bought and over salted, two cups of water couldn't quench my thirst. Way to salty for my taste, and cheap salad to go on the side; cant complain it comes with the meal. Took a while to get service and order the meal, but with company it didn't seem too bad. The food was tasty and flavorful, and the homemade soy sauce was an added taste. However the poor service and over priced food negated anything tasteful. I ordered a dragon roll that came with 8 pieces. And as I was ordering the waitress assured me they have 'The biggest sushi rolls in town'. I thought this to be quite the statement and took her word for it. Not only was the sushi a mere appetizer, but a total of $17 for an unfulfilling evening. I left hungry, unsatisfied, and disgusted by the boasting of sex and false statements. Needless to say I didn't tip and glad I did not bring a business meeting to this restaurant. I've hesitated writing this review, however I have reached my tipping point. I have been going to Ronnie sushi since 2005. I've always stayed loyal, and I always spoke highly about this business. The food and service has always been great but in recent years the service has gone significantly down hill. I used to be able to go to the sushi bar and get a custom roll from Ronnie himself and now I can't even get them to accommodate for a food allergy or a dietary need. They refused to make my son who has server food allergies like a plain piece of chicken or salmon so for years he couldn't enjoy his mom's favorite restaurant until recently because he grew out of his food allergies. Since he grew out of many of his food allergies he has fallen in love with sushi and of course I want to take him to Ronnie's since it was my favorite place. I've been doing keto for a few months now and I am in need of things without sugars and low carbs. I found a sushi roll that would be easy to accommodate (I graduated from culinary school so I know how to make sushi) but they refused to make a roll without rice and the fish just wrapped in seaweed. There was nothing else on the menu that seemed appetizing so I just ended up having miso soup for dinner. Oh and they even forgot to serve my son his salad with his sushi. As stated before, I've been loyal and spoke highly of this place for years! These people don't seem to care about loyalty or good reviews! I even have one of those customer photos on the ceiling advertising how good this place is. This is very disappointing and as a loyal fan I feel letdown and betrayed that service that used to be exceptional is now down the drain. Needless do they care. Went there to pick up after 30 mins and they still had me waiting for yet another half hour once I got there. They kept telling me it's coming so I couldn't leave and just come back. The lady at the reception kept telling me to go outside to wait. Rude! Also, she told me she would give me a free roll for waiting so long but she lied as I came home and found no free roll, just the ones I paid for. What a horrible experience! My Girlfriend and I ordered to go orders of the Issac Bang Bang roll with no tobiko and unfortunately, my girlfriend ate some tobiko when we explicitly ask for none on our orders and she is almost deathly allergic to it... I almost had to stab her with an EpiPen. I would advise to triple check with this restaurant if you are allergic...I hate giving bad reviews but this happened twice now. I'm super Uber sad right now. I have loved Ronnies for years! I travel to Alaska to work monthly. Occasionally I get to enjoy some sushi at Ronnies. Tonight I got off work late and thought maybe they closed early since the parking lot wasn't full. I was happy that I was able to belly up to the sushi bar. I wanted to sip on a saki bomb (I know) and get something to go, then down it and scoot down the street where I stay. I love as you walk in and they yell a greeting. Always welcome I've been here over 10 mins. I had to find my own menu. There were literally about 10 people here. Including the waitress. 10 more mins before I was asked if I wanted anything. I ordered my beer. I asked for a few extra mins since it's been a bit since I've been here. And...... That was the last time anyone talked to me. 20 minutes later a man walked in behind me, No one else at the sushi bar, he's given a menu, 3 minutes later asked for his order and I was passed by again.
