Came here with no expectations and left with ROOH becoming one of my new favorite Indian restaurants.

Coming from a mouth of an Indian, the best Delhi style chicken tikka masala I have had in the area. It simmered for perfection and butter infusion on a fresh white meat. The lamb shank was outstanding, along with the crazy cocktails. Pujan is a wonderful chef, this is my to go place for future nice evenings. read more

Rooh has amazing food, drinks and staff. We go about once per month. We'll usually get the following items and mix in some other ones to try: Chutney Sampler (w/ an extra order of Garlic Naan), Dahi Puri, Cauliflower Koliwada, Traditional Butter Chicken. The drinks change regularly and are fun and delicious. All of the staff is excellent. Johnny served us the other day. Johnny is always a lot of fun. Rooh regularly has seats outside. We'll bring our dog and eat outside. Bundle up if in the winter. Call ahead to see if there are seats outside. read more

Ghee old fashioned!! Or was it a Manhattan? I can't remember but it was really good (interesting twist). Tried their prefix menu during SF restaurant week. There was a large party ahead of us so took about 1.5 hours to get our main course but overall great ambience and good food. read more

Came here for dinner to celebrate a work promotion for my better half and they went above and beyond! Had a card waiting for us at the table and the food was beyond delicious! Service was perfect! Will be back - i live a block away hahaha read more

Great food but a sad experience with the hostess. We had confirmed reservation for 9:30pm on New Year's Eve and we had planned to go for fireworks after. We were warned - that no-show will incur a $30 per head charge and I am assuming if we were late by more than 30 mins we would have been dinged the same. We were on time but seated about 1 hour later. When we asked the hostess for the delay - we had a rude response of -- existing diners not leaving. We understand diners take their time at an upscale restaurant but the fault was with the restaurant for overbooking. The restaurant should respond to guests waiting for 1 hour with a reservation as well. We got a rude response, no apologies, and we did not get to see the fireworks due to the delays. read more

I really enjoyed the restaurant and hope they manage to survive in this very odd location. It's a lovely space and they've done some acoustic work, we were able to talk normally (unlike every other hip new restaurant). We enjoyed all the dishes, but what struck us were that some of the very traditional Indian dishes such as dal and naan were truely sublime. I'm not sure why people are complaining about portion sizes, as two of us were stuffed with two appetizers and two main courses. read more

Hands down the best Indian food I've had in the SF Bay Area! Delicious! Soo soo good. Also the most expensive Indian food I've probably had in the Bay Area. They have a great choice of cocktails (try the City of Joy or Filter Kafi!) For the small plates, definitely try the charred sweet potato- that malai broccoli with it is amazing! For the large plates, we had the paneer pinwheel and the vegetable dumplings. Both turned out to be excellent. We forgot to order any bread with the large plates initially, and later ordered the mint and chili laccha paratha. The paratha was tiny but buttery and crispy. Couldn't taste any mint or chili though. For dessert, we had the moong dal baklava. Again, turned out to be an excellent choice. Overall, it was a fantastic meal. Can't wait to come back and try their tasting menu! read more

Went here to celebrate hubby's birthday. Really loved this place. To start off, the tuna bhel was out of this world good (why hasn't anyone else tried this combination before?!) and the aloo tikki (accompanied by yogurt and potato mousse? and fried kale - sounds weird but it all paired perfectly together) was sublime. For main course, we got paneer rolls, dal makhani and sea bass -all very well prepared. They even brought complimentary dessert (carrot cake - just ok although the accompanying kulfi was delicious) since we were celebrating a birthday. Well done Rooh, we'll be back. read more

This was quite literally an explosion of flavors in my mouth. The dishes were so creative and flavorful. We ordered the chutney sampler, cauliflower dish and dahi Puri in small plates and the grain veggie pulao, baby aubergine for entrees. Heads up, expect the small plates to be well small :) but no less delicious. The aubergines were cooked so perfectly and served in a delicious peanut gravy, absolutely recommend. We polished off with the carrot mawa cake which was yummy. I liked the kulfi on the side more than the cake itself, but that's just me! read more

I work nearby & see this restaurant buzzing during lunch & happy hour. I had my reservations before I went in but that was quickly put to rest. The staff here is wonderful! They are knowledgeable about every item on the menu. I had the butter chicken & lamb chops with garlic naan. The butter chicken is well flavored & has a nice kick to it. My girlfriend & I enjoyed it so much that we ordered a second order of naan so we could wipe up all the the gravy! I was afraid the lamb would be gamy however, it to was well seasoned & tender. It is a bit on the pricey side however, it's worth it. read more

This restaurant is absolutely incredible. It's on the level of any of SF's finest restaurants, but the food and drinks are so much more interesting and flavorful. The owners have several other restaurants-- but all in India. This is their first establishment in the US. First, the drinks. Curated by Mickey, they are absolutely incredible. The wine list pairs with the meal perfectly and the cocktails are incredibly unique. Just look at the way the cocktail menu is designed! The food... oh, the food. Came in on a Thursday for a cocktail and happy hour appetizers. Here is my initial assessment; Décor: Chic, aesthetically pleasing, and very comfortable. Atmosphere: Intimate without being intrusive. Great vibes and a full bar at 6 pm! Food: Only had a few appetizers but all were stellar.. great spice and a true feel of elevated authenticity..and finally Cocktails: The cocktails were so on point! Jeffrey the beverage manager has created this (mind blowing) flavor wheel for cocktails and it had my taste buds in a frenzy! I love that you can customize your cocktail experience according the flavor wheel and will know exactly what to expect when your first sip hits your palate. I will definitely be back! read more

Great experience in celebrating my wife's birthday last night. We enjoyed an outstanding table with a lovely booth and beautiful curtains. Semi-private yet great to see other diners. I called in advance and spoke with Jane, hostess, to arrange for a birthday card to be written and the dessert to gave a byrthday greeting written in chocolate with my wife's name on it. Upon arrival, we were warmly greeted by Jada and team. We were served by Justin, who greeted my wife and was so warm, authentic, and personable all evening. He also offered up great recommendations. Our water glasses were filled throughout the evening. Mel, the Manager, walked around the dining room to greet customers and spent time making us feel welcomed. We ordered too much but decided to eat it all anyway. Really loved the dahi puri, tandoori octopus, curry beef short-ribs, butter chicken (better than most I've had), and their amazing sorbets (green melon, rose yogurt). At the end of our dinner, they surprised my wife with her gorgeously plated and signed dessert (2 sinful scoops of their salted caramel sorbet) and birthday card. Thoroughly enjoyed my experience at Rooh this past weekend. Very creative drinks. Love the presentation of the Firdaus. Small plates were all full of flavor, quite literally a party in your mouth. Large plates were good but the small plates really stole the show. Once again, great creativity and presentation. Didn't realize that the operators also operate Olive in Mumbai which is also very good. Finally a great Indian option in the Bay Area. read more

Pricey, but hands down the best Indian in San Francisco, and it reheats very well when you have left overs to bring home. This is one of my go-to places when friends visit from out of town, and it is also a great date spot. read more

The coconut appetizer was really good but the ow wet pinwheels were disgusting . The paneer was rubbery it was just a very weird taste . The main meal of scotch egg was excellent and so was the cashew cake desert. Also the cocktail was great . But thee ambience wasn't quitr bad glamorous or Pisa or as I expected . This was some of the best food I've had in awhile and made for a great birthday meal. It's not typical Indian food - it has all of the flavors, spices, and techniques, but they use atypical ingredients you seldom see in India: jackfruit, kale, and certain meats. They also splice the cuisine with Mediterranean and Pan-asian flavorings as well. The staff was perfectly accommodating and the drinks were pieces of art on their own; can't wait to come back. read more

Excellent!! Paneer pinwheels and black dal was the best I have had in the states. Peas and goat cheese kulcha was really good as well. I do suggest altering the dahipuri appetizer to something a bit more. Since rooh has raised it's standards higher in what the customer would expect from progressive Indian food and the normal dahi Puri doesnt make the cut. read more

What a disappointment. Really wanted to love Rooh but nothing we ordered was very good. Started with the chutney sampler with papadum which was ok. The fried chicken was bland...no Indian spices at all. The butter chicken was nothing special and the short rib curry was not good at all. Super tough short ribs and bland curry sauce. 1 star for food. Only reason for 2nd star was the service. I believe our server was Bibeep and he was very good. read more

This is the best Indian restaurant we have ever been to! Super trendy vibes, incredible cuisine, and very friendly staff that goes out of their way to make you feel special. The decor and music also makes the night extra special and I am so impressed with the way they have maintained their cozy ambiance despite Covid while still maintaining safe precautions so you can enjoy your meal without any worries. The space is lovely and the service is attentive, friendly and knowledgeable. And the cocktails are fantastic! Some of the food is very tasty, but the vegetarian food is just too sweet and jammy for me. After appetizers, I felt like I'd eaten 3 tablespoons of jam. It's a shame- I feel like they've Americanized the food too much, and lost some of the fresh, spicy, earthy and bitter flavors in Indian food. The chickpea cakes were really heavy and mushy, but the sauce was delicious. I'd come back for the cocktails, and maybe try some other menu items. read more

Went for brunch yesterday. Very old service and bad food. The menu on the site to the one in the restaraunts was different. Half the items were not available. The dishes were poorly cooked. This is my third time and it has really gone down. Very disappointing read more

Where has progressive Indian food been all my life? My tastebuds are still happy just thinking about Rooh. We stopped in for happy hour after a game- so traffic could die down; and got great nibbles with lots of flavors. The staff were so attentive and knowledgeable about the food. Food came out at a great pace, and we had a really great experience.
