Met here for a girl's breakfast and we should have gone to our regular place but we wanted to try something new. I ordered the Huevos Rancheros and they were gross. The eggs were cold, the tortillas were cold and literally like they came straight out of the package onto my plate, there was zero flavor or goodness on top. I asked where the cheese was, server said on the tortillas and I looked and it was minuscule. I want rancheros sauce on top of my over easy eggs and tortillas that have some texture followed by visible amounts of delicious melted cheese on top. This was just sad. I took a picture of my breakfast once I was done, which was a few bites in- totally feel it was a waste of $15. The restaurant is basic and you order at the counter and they bring you the food. My friend had the two egg breakfast and her hash browns were cold and under cooked, her sourdough toast was not toasted at all but warmed. My other friend ordered the breakfast quesadilla and she said it wasn't that good and her hash browns were equally sad. I don't get it? How hard is it to make a good breakfast? The breakfast burrito here was really good. I got half bacon and half Portuguese sausage and it was perfect mix. It was a neatly wrapped burrito and packed. The size was enough to fill you up but not overeat. The early riser sandwich was delicious. The egg in it wasn't too runny that it dripped everywhere, and they toasted the sourdough to perfection. There was a little bit of a wait as it was packed with both dine in and to go orders, but it is worth it as the food exceeded expectations. I walked to Rooster Cafe for lunch while I waited for my car to be being worked on at the nearby America's Tire. There aren't a lot of vegetarian options, but the cashier recommended the breakfast burrito with avocado and black beans instead of meat. It was a great recommendation! The burrito was a good size and it filled me up. The salsa is really good too. It had chunks of tomato and onion. It complemented the burrito well. I was excited to try something unique while I was in town. Found this little gem and thought I would give it a try. I love a good breakfast joint. And this is not a classy establishment, so just go in understanding that. I started with the Mexican Hot Chocolate. It's delicious. Not too hot either. I hate it when you get a hot chocolate that you have to wait 20 minutes to drink or you can taste anything for three days. The atmosphere is very casual and relaxing. My food came and it was great. The potatoes are very seasoned and a little starchy, but the scramble was great. I had read some pretty harsh reviews and I think you have to judge this place on what it is. The eggs were burnt, the pancake not even warm enough to melt the butter, the bacon looked like it had been cooked hours before we were there and the hash browns well not good at all. WARNING, Parking is tight so you'll most likely have to find street parking. My family and I just flew in from the bay and my sister who lives in Irvine recommended we try this place. I will be honest in saying the place did not seem like it would be that appealing but looks are deceiving. The cafe is surrounded by a variety of small businesses so I can predict lunch time to be busy. Anyways going into the restaurant note that you have to order first in order to sit down because they want to make sure those that have food have a place to sit. So they're very considerate about those that get there first. (Does not apply to the elderly, so plop down where ever you'd like) The staff also has a millennial feel, which isn't bad. It was just interesting to see the cashier say, "What can I get for you bro" to a guy in business attire. For breakfast I had a Portuguese sausage burrito since it's an easy go to handheld food. Nothing out of the ordinary in my opinion they could've distributed the sausage more as I felt a majority of it was at the bottom and the hash browns were non-detectable. (replace with house potatoes for taste & texture?) But their (Homemade?) salsa.... it complimented the burrito in a way that changed it for the better. Quick FYI, this restaurant has a break time between lunch & dinner on Friday & Sat. We arrived right when it 'opened' at 7pm on a Friday & it was completely empty. We were originally going to Barley Forge down the street, but everyone & their mother was crowding in there, so we walked down the street & stumbled our way here, & it didn't disappoint! The interior is a little small, but there's also some outdoor seating if it ever gets crowded. In addition to their regular menu items, they also serve breakfast items all day. The servers were nice & friendly. I ordered the pulled pork sliders. It came with 3 sliders which were all pretty juicy & filling. They have a deal where you can get a side discounted when you order a sandwich, so I opted for the mac n cheese, which was pretty high quality for such a low-key restaurant. Not much else to say other than good quality food & service for a restaurant that's overshadowed by the others on the street. The food is a mix of traditional with a slight twist. Had the hammer and the Elvis sandwich. Both were good. This place is counter service. You order and they give you a number. When your order is ready they bring it to your table. The place is small with inside and outside seating. The really odd thing is the restroom is located around the back. The only drawback is that area exploded quickly which means that now when I visit, there are zero parking spots and there are typically no tables. I've literally placed an order, had it come out from the kitchen and there was no table for them to serve it to as I was still standing awaiting a spot to open up. Wanted to get a brunch with fellow Yelper Natasha and this was the place that we ended up heading to. There's not much parking in their lot so you'll probably have to get parking on the street... or get really lucky. I got a spot on St. Clair (yay!). Going inside the restaurant, the same could be said of the size. The restaurant interior was very small and they had a few tables inside as well. If you are doing to go, you can get your order in before you arrive and make it easier. We got it to go and took it elsewhere to chillax. It does take a while for them to make the food because they are made to order, so it doesn't start until you order. I went for the scramble. I got the veggie scramble ($8.49), which had bell peppers, mushrooms, onions, tomatoes, and egg scramble w red potatoes on the side. I upgraded to get egg white (add $1.95). I also saw a lot of reviews about their Porteguese sausages too so I got a pack of 5 on the side. For the most part, the veggie scramble was just alright; it did its job in satisfying as a brunch. There were a decent amount of ingredients in the egg white mix and it was good that it was not drenched in oil. A little bit lacking in flavor, but maybe some hot sauce, salt and pepper, would do the trick here. The red potatoes on the side were seasoned really well and it was good at having texture; biting down on it and chewing on them rather than having them be soft and mushy haha. This place is crackin on the weekends! Long lines out the door. I seen a ton of people place orders ahead of time to avoid the wait. The long line can be a bit dreading. It takes a bit to get up front to order but it's totally worth the wait! My boyfriend and I both ordered our own breakfast. We tend to share entrees but this time we wanted separate items. I ordered the Texas French Toast and he got the Breakfast Tacos which came with a side of potatoes. I got to try his tacos and O M G they were delicious! They had eggs, bacon, salsa with fresh avocado slices on top. Absolutely filling and delicious. My French toast was a decent size. It was a total of 3 slices of bread all cut in half. I was only able to finish half of the order. I was sad to see the butter was served in the small rectangle packages instead of a nice scoop placed on top of the slices. Rooster Cafe gives you all the ingredients you desire without breaking a $10 bill. For no extra charges your $8.25 omelet can include tomatoes, mushrooms, bell peppers, onions, and spinach. For cheese add 25 cents, for protein add 50 cents. Your omelet includes hash browns or the better-than-hash-browns red potatoes. Toast isn't included but even without it this is a lot of food. Is it delicious? It's big and it's satisfying. There's no omelet artistry going on here, just a classic diner omelet in a casual, order at the counter environment with outside seats available for you and your dog. I've read of huge waits here but there was none on a weekday afternoon and, having now sampled the food, I'd be unlikely to return were there a wait. Satisfying platefuls at reasonable prices make a compelling case for a visit to the Rooster. I understand they won some award (best breakfast?) but they didn't officially win my award until now. 1st off I used to eat at Roosters on a regular basis, used to love this place today served cold pre-cooked bacon that sucks they used to it so well. Bacon was taken back and warmed up but can tell the precook fast no longer fresh :( My scrambled eggs were also completely dried out.
