Such a cool new spot in Phoenixville. The size of the place is really impressive and it has a very chill vibe. Plenty of tables, long bar, and a cement indoor "beer garden" in the back that is kid friendly. The beers are on point and there is even a food window to order some snacks. We did not eat (just drank) but will definitely come back to try out the food. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. Have already recommended to friends and will continue to do so. read more

We enjoyed a fabulous afternoon watching sports on the big screen. The kids played the games they have -- like a backyard but indoors! Food was good -- my wife really loved her turkey club (still talking about it). We have also had some larger group events here with 50-100 people over the past couple years and they really go out of their way for you as hosts. Love the atmosphere and beer, food not so much. Staff are all super friendly and seems to always be a good crowd there (as in not rowdy, friendly crowd). Never has been too busy when I've been there so that's always nice. They have a lot of cool games, like old arcade games. Flava Remix Double IPA 60 IBU 9.0% ABV 5 oz for $4.00 Nicely hopped with a tint of sweetness that finishes nicely. Flux Single-hopped w/Mosaic Unfiltered IPA 30 IBU 6.8% ABV 5 oz for $3.25 ...and props for the correct use of the hyphen Traditional Mosaic hops brew; nicely balanced Bine American IPA 60 IBU 7.2% ABV 5 oz for $4.00 Hoppy, but a bit milder than its cousins above. Phest Fest bier 34 IBU 6% ABV 5 oz for $3.50 Balanced with a nice malt flavor, and a true altbier flaovr Decor Hammered tin on the ceiling in the entry way, beautifully stained beams and floors. Re-purposed tables and benches, but very cheap, metallic barstools and chairs. Love the graffiti INSIDE and the brick and mortar walls. Interesting pergola-style hallway with 2, count 'em, 2 men's and women's bathrooms. Beer hall in the back with pinball games. Open kitchen where one orders. Two TVs, so it's not a sports bar, but a gathering place, and that's a good thing. Ample space, although I imagine that on a very busy night it will be nigh impossible to hear each other since there's no baffling of sound. Music choice relaxing and good and a perpetual flow of customers, which I'm happy about as a local. Staff & Service Very knowledgeable, conversant, approachable and informative. A welcome change to most of the local bars. On top of my needs not sitting at the bar. Negatives: Check above and the prices for flight glasses. 20 oz. for $14.25 when two pints--at the highest price--cost $13. It reminds me of when I lived in MN and new beers came in to the store. New beers could only be bought in a case until they sold enough to encourage selling them as singles = a backwards way of doing things. I will never try a flight again. Why bother? I can come back and get pints cheaper...and it's not like it costs them more or uses up more beer. OK, OK, it might cost a fraction more to wash 4 5oz glasses than 1 16oz glass, but if that's their business model, I won't come back despite the excellent beer...because it's stupid, and it needs to be said. Although I despise, nay they are anathema to me, those brew pubs and bars that charge $.50/taste, I'd rather that than a $4.00 fee to try a beer I may or may not like. On it's own, the kraut is barely edible; with the brat, amazing, so props to the chef for figuring that out. Just don't offer it on it's own...please, we're in PA, the US home of kraut. Root Down is one of our favorite spots in Pville (and their biergarten as well). The inside space is probably one of the coolest I've been in of any brewery. The food is great and the beer is always good. Also, I love how the owner focuses his theme on hip hop. With the big room in the back, the kids have plenty of space to graze. I visited Root Down while I was home from North Carolina visiting family and it was awesome to experience the authentic local vibe this place has. The beer is phenomenal, the food is unique and mouthwatering, the staff attentive, and atmosphere is fantastic. I had the pulled chicken tacos, soft pretzels, and sweet potato biscuits - each perfectly portioned and prepared to go with their brews. Every dinner dish I sampled was phenomenal... but they couldn't top the sweet sleeper on the menu, peanut butter pie! Definitely save room (I know, hard to do when everything on the menu is on point) for some pie at the end. The staff was friendly and the service was fast. It is evident that a lot of hard work and effort has been put into creating a unique setting to experience some of the area's finest beer and tastiest eats. read more

I love the food and the beer here. Been here twice and I've loved it both. Second time I was here I was greeted like I was doing something illegal I guess because I look young. Greeted, how can I help you, before I could say anything let me see your ID. It's not a bad thing, but I just feel offended as I'm almost 30 and I just think there's a more respectful way to ask me if I'm over 21. I love it here. Root down is great! Atmosphere is cool hip brewing company with arcade games, Corn hole and picnic style dining. Food is on point for a new brewery and they have high tops in the bar area that you feel comfortable staying at forever. However, this restaurant is NOT kid friendly as most breweries are. Majority of restaurants in Phoenixville accommodate children since the area is constantly welcoming new families with young children and probably more of the audience Root Down would like to entice to come in. They do not have changing tables of high chairs so the family can eat. This makes dinner and drinks very hard to enjoy. They also do not provide a kids menu. Having chicken fingers or Mac and cheese with a side in a smaller portion would be ideal for families. If you are traveling without your toddler, I would recommend. read more

Root down is a decent brewery - but nothing entirely special. The vibe is very industrial, not extremely cozy and welcoming. It is definitely a family friendly venue. We did not eat here, so I can't speak for the food, but there was casual food offered which was a plus! The beer list wasn't extremely impressive - not a lot of variety on tap. I have been here a couple times, the beers are excellent and the food hits the spot. What is most impressive is the amount of space and the aesthetic. Easily the best brewery in south eastern PA and Philly. Every beer is extremely well brewed and delicious. Root down clearly chooses to put only their best beer. I've really felt that other breweries have produced beers they know turned out to be mediocre but either by skill or by choice, Root Down puts out beers that are a cut above. This place is great! It's one of the biggest breweries for seating I've seen. The decor is sleek with an urban factory vibe.The bar staff was great, especially Coleen. She was very informative about the brewery and the beers. We ordered a Reuben Sandwich and it was yummy!! We, also, shared an order of Deviled Eggs. It's a nice set up when you are ready for food. They have a very friendly staff that mans the ordering window area. You are given a number and your food is brought to your seating area. I can guarantee this...if you go once, you will go back again. Kudos to the owners!! read more
