As a vegetarian who has issues with dairy I hit the holy grail for this place. So much creativity put in into the menu and its so nice to go to a place where I don't have to ask questions making sure what I'm ordering doesn't have meat in it & not having to pay extra for alternative milk. I requested my coffee in a reusable ceramic cup. The staff flatly refused, claiming they were "out of cups." This was confusing and frustrating, as there was a clear stack of clean, visible cups right in front of them. When a business refuses to honor a simple, reasonable request--and even attempts to mislead the customer about inventory--it suggests a deep lack of respect for both the customer and the quality of their own product experience. Smoothie was like a thick creamy milk. Kind of fluffy is that makes an sense. Creamy I guess, but a bit on the runny side. Protein was a bit powdery. Not sure on the brand of almond butter used but it left an oily after taste? Rooted sure does know how to bake a vegan and gluten free cookie. I inhaled the cookie! Nestled in between restaurants and cafes in downtown Walnut Creek (Locust St) is an adorable cafe, Rooted Coffee. My kids and I are true blue avocado toast aficionados, and boy, does this place have delicious avo toast options. I tried the Avocado Dream (Make It Sunny), avocado toast topped with turmeric smashed chickpea with a housemade pesto drizzle. It was tasty, filling and exceptional in crunch (the bread is thick, but light and crispy toasted). My son tried the avocado toast topped with crunched up Takis (pictured). Also, delicious and let's face it fun. Their coffee roasts are bot to be skipped. I got a pound to take home and enjoyed their Boomerang blend (with heavy blueberry undertones) all week long. I didn't realize this place was a plant-based cafe when I initially visited because I thought my first drink was with whole milk instead of oat milk, but upon the second visit, the cashier clarified that the default is oat milk. Needless to say, I quite enjoyed the brown sugar latte and the winter solstice latte. Both were fantastically made with a good balance of sweetness and bitterness. Staff greets you with a smile and is super friendly. There is street parking, but also a parking structure with the first hour free. Inside has a good amount of seating and it seemed like everyone sitting in was ordering food. Stopped in on a Friday morning around 9 and it was pretty busy. Most of the indoor seating was taken, there were a lot of people that were working on laptops occupying most of the tables. They have a small seating area in the corner and some high top tables near the window, as well as some outdoor tables. They also allow dogs if you want to stop by with your furry friend. They offer an entire plant based menu full of unique food and drinks. The green goddess avocado toast was delicious and my boyfriend enjoyed the chunky monkey waffle. This is a great spot that is evidently popular in the community as it was consistently busy the entire time we were there! Highly recommend stopping by if you are in the area, even if you don't eat plant based! Street parking can be a little tricky to find as this is a busy street with tons of other businesses, but there is a parking garage across the street. read more

I recently discovered Rooted carries macadamia nut milk so we decided to drop in this weekend to try them out. Walking in the layout felt strange because the space wasn't designed to be a coffee shop (originally it was a lounge called Lift) and due to the odd setup its four person line was out the door. After a longer than expected wait, we encountered friendly service and ordered a blueberry doughnut and a cardamom maple latte with macadamia milk to share. The drink came out quickly but unfortunately had an odd burst of aftertaste which I found it unpleasant while it lasted, and the blueberry doughnut was similar to a glazed old fashioned but was a bit too doughy for my taste. At the end of the day, Rooted could definitely do with adding in an order tablet at the front, similar to Palmetto Superfoods, and while the honey enjoyed their wares, they sadly weren't a good fit for me. read more

Sweetness was minimal and there was a nutty flavor to the drink; not sure how much maple I tasted. I also asked for light ice and I think they delivered on that. Really enjoyed the matcha. My new favorite place to get matcha in the area. I love how the default milk is plant-based! There were so many yummy food choices to choose from as well as different drink choices as well. I can't wait to come back and try other variations of their matcha. The texture of the cookie was in between a nice crunch & a perfect chew. There is a cute little merch area before you walk up to the counter. They have a pastry case so we ordered a scone for our son. It was ok but nothing special. I was curious about the housemade maple cold foam but now I know I should have gone with my instinct! Instead I tried the pumpkin dirty chai latte. I wanted caffeine but also wanted to try the seasonal drinks. This drink was seriously all chai. No espresso flavor, no pumpkin flavor. The cardamom in the chai was too overpowering and left a bad aftertaste. I didn't want to waste it but I just couldn't keep going, so I didn't even get to finish half. I needed a place to study while my phone was getting repaired at Apple, so I went to Rooted. Ambiance was very chill and provided a great spot to be productive. They have a large assortment of signature coffee drinks, organic, and their specialty seems to be their different styles of avocado toast. They also are 100% plant based. Although I did not try their food, I ordered one of their winter specialty lattes, made with house made toasted marshmallow syrup. It was delicious! I ordered a Summer Evening Iced Latte, but mine didn't come with the cold foam because they had ran out.
