Hired these scumbags after my toilet backed up and started leaking. They cleared it temporarily, only for the issue to return shortly after. Over the next few visits, they performed multiple hydro jettings, yet the problem still persisted. Their final "solution" was a $16,000 repair that would supposedly fix the issue -- while still requiring ongoing maintenance. They insisted it was the only possible option. Thankfully, something felt off. I decided to get a second opinion and was referred to a plumber who had done reliable work for family members over the years. He immediately recognized the situation for what it was: an outright scam. From his assessment, the problem had a very simple and obvious fix. He repaired it for $500. That was in 2021. It's now 2026, and the issue has never returned. Not once. As a first-time homeowner, I can only imagine how badly this could have gone if I had trusted these people. I would probably still be paying off a completely unnecessary repair today. To anyone considering Rooter Hero Plumbing & Air: avoid them at all costs. Their business practices are exactly why so many people distrust trades companies, which is unfortunate because most tradespeople I've met over the past five years have been hardworking, honest, salt-of-the-earth individuals. He was very helpful, was transparent with pricing and did all he could to make sure he was able to give me the best value. I was very satisfied with the service. I was grateful for same day service. I requested a location of sewer line and was able to get it same day in a timely manner and didnt have to stop my day of work. I called around and got a quote from other companies about twice the price. What i liked is i was told what my requested service would cost from Byron after he designated what the scope of work would be and if i decline service there would be no charge. I rarely leave negative reviews, but this experience was extremely disappointing. I called Rooter Hero because my bathroom was clogged. The technician quickly told me the problem was outside in the main sewer line and made the situation sound very serious. I was told that I might need major repairs costing thousands, or even tens of thousands, of dollars. I paid $175 for a camera inspection, part of my flooring was opened during the inspection, and after several hours, my bathroom was still completely clogged. The most frustrating part is that the technician never seriously attempted to clear the blockage directly from inside the bathroom and insisted that there was no simple solution. After they left, I called another plumbing company for a second opinion. The second plumber used a machine through the bathroom drain and fixed the problem quickly for only a small amount of money. No excavation, no major sewer work, and no expensive repairs were needed. I filed a complaint with customer service and waited about a week for an answer. Communication was slow, and in the end, I was simply told that their technician's recommendations were appropriate and that the $175 charge would not be refunded. Based on my experience, it felt like the focus was on recommending expensive services rather than properly diagnosing and solving the actual problem. We had a clogged toilet in a house with only one bathroom and three adults. This happened after 5:30 pm. Most plumbing businesses were closed. I called them, and spoke with the answering service. Within a half hour they called me back to schedule a plumber. The plumber, Jesse Mateo, came out in less than an hour. The estimate of work was free! Jesse let me know that he thought if he augered the toilet that would probably fix the problem. Otherwise, they might have to remove the toilet if this didn't work. Fortunately it worked! The charge for this was $59 which I thought was reasonable, especially with the price of gas these days. All the employees were nice mannered and helpful. In short, don't use these guys. What a horrible experience. I called them because the drains on the rear house on my property were backing up and slow. Their $59 ad is what got me. They did show up right away, which was the only good thing about this experience. The first thing they said is because I own a duplex, it didn't qualify for the $59 ad. But they said they would honor it anyway. They ran the snake through the cleanout, and nothing changed. The snake didn't have any kind of hook or end on it, and it was by no means a new cable. They then told me that there must be dirt in the line, because the end of the snake was shiny. BS. We waited 2 hours for another guy with a camera. They ran the camera into the line and told me the water was still backing up because there was a blockage about 100' away under my driveway. They said it would cost over $6,000 to fix it but gave me a discount down to $5,850. Unfortunately, I believed them, and authorized the work. They got started right way...good. The contract called for the excavation of the site, repair and installation of a dual cleanout, hydro jet cleaning of the line, refilling of the hole and rough patch on the concrete. They got the cleanout installed and then they told me I had another problem. This time they said the cast iron pipe further down was rotten and that they needed to line it. But they could only install the liner up to the first lateral (where a house drain attaches to the main sewer) because the liner would block that connection. I know now that this is NOT true if have the right equipment. They told me that this needed to be done before filling the hole, because once that was done it would have to be dug up again if I decided not to approve the liner work. The quote for the liner work was another $8,000! The current contract called for cleanout of the lines, refilling the hole, concrete patch, and thorough cleanup. If I said no to the liner, they said they could not hydro jet the lines. Once again, I felt like I wasn't getting the full story. I told them I wasn't ready to make the decision, and they said no problem, take a few days because we are waiting for the inspector anyway. This was a Monday, and I told them I needed until at least Friday to decide. I had decided to get another opinion, and I contacted another company that I could trust because of a personal relationship with a family member. That company did a thorough inspection of the problem, including camera work almost all the way to the street. They did confirm the cast iron pipe was in bad shape and did need to be lined. However, they also told me the work done by Rooter Hero to try and descale the pipe had left lots of debris in the pipe that should have been jetted out. They also confirmed that jetting was possible despite the problem. I got a quote to line the entire pipe, not just the portion up to the first lateral. They needed a few days to get the work into their schedule (less than a week). But here's where it really goes south. Rooter Hero called me on a Friday to get my decision on the liner work. If I said no, then they claimed needed to fill the hole immediately. I told them I needed another week to decide. I still wasn't positive I was going to do it. Then they told me No. They claimed that once the inspection was done the job had to be finished immediately. So, another pressure tactic. When I pushed back (inspection is good for a year), the conversation went south fast. I told them I was not going to allow them to fill in the hole for a week. Their response was absolutely not, it must be done right away, and if I didn't let them fill it in, they were going to sue me! I had already told them I was willing to pay for the work that had been done thus far. But they still said no, this was not their first rodeo, and that they were going to sue me, and hung up. I thought to myself...OK, please sue me. I'm just asking for a week delay, and they haven't completed (and didn't intend to complete) all of the work in the contract. And they knew I was willing to pay for the work that had been done. They called me back in about an hour and said that if i would pay for the work, they would leave the hole open. I asked about some amount of discount on the price because they didn't do all of the work, and they laughed. I paid for the entire amount, and they will leave the hole open. read more

Their technicians are licensed SALESPERSONS. They will say that they will not be able to fix your problems unless you DO EXTRA WORK to remedy your situation. They will UPSELL your job and use scare tactics to try to get you to sign a contract. DO NOT SIGN ANYTHING. Once you sign they will use that against you saying, "Well, you signed the contract." Prices are ridiculous! 3-4 times higher than your average plumber. They have a set price book before you even call them to explain your problems. The technician misrepresented my job to his supervisor and told him my toilets were on one branch line. He lied. I have 2 separate branch lines to 2 separate toilets/restrooms. My simple snaking of my toilet lines went from $600.00 - $ 6,000.00 because they upsold me an unnecessary double clean out. BTW... this looks like their common scam. Absolute scam artists. They lied about the extent of the problem and the service that would be required. Overcharged the service by 4 times the industry average rate. Said it could be up to a certain amount, then charged me the entire amount after about 30 minutes of actual work. Pressured me to make the payment. Called to get a a payment readjustment and they never called me back. Called the "care team" and Alex said he would do an investigation. Never again answered or returned my calls. STAY AWAY from this place. No idea why the state California or the CSLB allows them to operate like this. read more

Rooter Hero came to unclog my drains, both which were just draining slowly. Technician said he could only fix one. He left quickly and said he could not fix the other drain. I needed a better snake and it would cost over a $1K dollars. He made the that drain worse. Now it won't drain at all. He also left my bathroom and hallway a mess. He ended up staining my carpet as he was taking snake down my stairs. Horrible stains on 4 of my stairs. I sent them pictures of the damage. I called and spoke to the manager Alex who said they would have his other manager call me the next day to see how they could cover cost of cleaning the carpet on my stairs. We called Rooter Hero to fix a simple leak coming from the air gap drain on our countertop. Their technician shortened the black hose running from the garbage disposal to the air gap -- and after that "repair," our Bosch dishwasher (which had been working perfectly that very morning) started throwing an E:15 error code and wouldn't run at all. When we called them back, hoping they'd show some accountability, they refused to take any responsibility. The tech insisted there was no possible way their work could have caused the issue, and told us to call a dishwasher repair person instead. So we're supposed to believe the dishwasher breaking just happened to occur right after their visit? It gets worse: they charged us $139, even though their website clearly advertised a $59 special. When we brought that up, they claimed it "didn't apply in this situation." Of course it didn't -- how convenient. While they were there, we also asked for quotes to replace a standard toilet and to hydrojet the kitchen drain. The prices were laughable -- $430+ for the toilet and a jaw-dropping $1,895 for hydrojetting. We contacted a trusted plumber we've worked with before, and they quoted $260 for the toilet and $650 for the hydrojet. Rooter Hero's prices are pure gouging. Unprofessional, unaccountable, and aggressively overpriced. Do yourself a favor and avoid Rooter Hero entirely. We'll never call them again, and I suggest you don't either. read more

Their $59 drain special not honored. Used the snake, wasn't successful, i asked him how far he went, he said all the way to the street. 1 try 5 minutes. Then spent 20 minutes using brand new white towels saying the black on the towel is why the snake didn't work. Then went into hydro jetting, he'll give me a discount, called to have 2 other guys come, need a camera first. They show up, 2 hours in now, their camera isn't working. They jet anyway, now another guy shows up, he seems to be here to solve a problem, he tells me he's now going to go under the house. Ne thing i know, they're telling me i need to replace all the drain pipes under my home. How they coordinate with insurance and the quote is 45k. Remember i had a clog, they did work, now the pipes are open and leaking. 5 hours later. Atrocious and shameful! Look elsewhere! My sewer line was clogged, and I could not flush the toilet. The appointment was easy to make, and a plumber was able to come to my house same day. The plumber could not unclog the the sewer line, and said a new clean out is needed, and it will cost me $6,000! A quick google search shows that it should cost much less. When I said no, the plumber was not happy and reiterated the bad situation I'm left with if I don't go through with his proposal... Wow, thanks for rubbing it in. They did not charge me, so giving them 2 stars. I got a different plumber to come later the same day and they were able to unclog the sewer line. read more

We had a clog in our kitchen sink right before Thanksgiving. I called Rooter Hero because they had a $59 drain clearing special advertised on their website. The guy showed up an immediately said this does not qualify for the special and it will $257. I showed him the ad and he wouldn't look at it. I asked what drain would qualify for the $59 special. He couldn't answer. We were in a bind because we were hosting Thanksgiving in a few days. We had him clear the drain, paid him the $257 and I told him I would call his office to file a complaint. I ended calling Rooter Hero 9 times over the following 2 weeks and they kept claiming they would refund me the overcharge to my credit card. After 3 weeks, we filed a dispute with our credit card company. Rooter Hero are crooks. Don't ever give them you business. read more

I contacted them because we had a clogged kitchen drain. The search on Google turned up their listing with a $59 drain cleaning service. When the technician arrived, he first explained what he was going to do and said it would cost $250. I said what happened to the $59 I saw on the website. I had to prove that to him. Then he agreed to the $59. He started working. He tried to snake through the drain but could not get through so he called "a more experience technician". The second man brought a borescope (camera). He scoped a few feet and said he could not get through the clog either. He suggested either hydro jetting $2500 and or de-scaling, $5000. We almost went for it but backed out, paid the $59 and called another company, American Reliable Services. They used a larger augur and broke up the clog and it didn't cost anywhere near what Rooter Hero want to charge. I had a bad experience with this company. We had a clogged drain. Plumber acted like he had never smelled something like that before started talking about how it could make people in my house sick, saying I could have mold issues, it just got clogged today and it wasn't a restroom clog. Then he started quoting me pricing of $6000 plus dollars. Saying concrete may need to be taken up, etc. Saying I had bad/old pipes. Nothing had been done yet and he didn't even know what the problem was. He opened my cleanout and the water went down which means the problem was from the cleanout to the curb, not in the house. He didn't do any work, so there were no charges, which is a good thing. Today a different company came out, snaked the drain, cleared it out and sent camera down, I have a belly in my pipe in the grass that needs to be repaired. This company sent a worker that claimed that he is a certified plumber... even though I had a coupon advertising service for main line work, he refused to accept it. Secondly, he tried to clean the drain and wasn't able to. He demanded that we pay him 99$. If you don't do the job, you do not get paid. Called dispatcher for kitchen clean out, tech said there was a blockage 25 feet down the trap. Jesse recommended a camera to locate the blockage. jesse never examined the trap to see that it was 96% clogged. camera could not enter in the trap. i was trying to justify the camera cost, Jesse boss was getting mad with my questions. after 2 hour. once I got home i received a call for my tenant say the trap was left open. I had a somewhat disturbing experience. I had a technician come in and look at my non functional AC unit. I did not know what the problem was. Once the tech inspected my unit I was quoted 1400 for a new ; *Blower motor *Blower wheel *Ground capacitor I told him thank you for coming paid the fee and he left. The next day I had another technician come over. He is self employed and he quickly told me it was just a burn out part that he quickly replaced and charged me less than 200 dollars. When I said I needed to take a day to think about it, he began using his scare tactics. "Oh you're gonna regret this" "oh I know I want in talking about" "I'm thinking about your kids you gotta take care of your kids" " oh you're gonna ruin Christmas when your pipes flood" then he tries another tactic and asked me if I plan on selling the house. At that point I was checked out. I said, I don't know. And he's like well in the next 5 years what do you think will you sell it? And again I said I don't know. Then he said "really you don't even know that?" I said nope. I'm not giving this guy any more personal information that he can try to manipulate to use against me. After that he could tell he wasn't going anywhere with me. He got upset and crushed his water bottle with his hands and left. The original plumber put back my toilet from the guest house but of course let it leak even more before he did. He even took apart my toilet from the main house and put it back. At then end he still wanted to charge me $175!!! I said for what!?? You guys didn't fix anything!! And you wasted my whole day! The guy was here from 1-6 acting like he's gonna fix a problem. I said no! I'll give You $100 for being here that's it. You guys didn't fix anything. He said ok. The next day I called a handy man and he fixed the problem easy peasy. Everything works fine. These guys are scammers and will try to take advantage of you. They try to talk to you to distract you and use information against you and in the end when all these toilets are uninstalled they hit you with it's a huge problem and they try to overwhelm you. My furnace that was 24 years old was not firing up the blower due to a cracked burner. I received four quotes and they ranged up to $5500.00 in price difference on a new furnace, ducting, Nest Wifi thermostat and HVAC system. I don't believe in going with the lowest price and take into consideration product, warranty and knowledge of the contractor. Jose the owner came out - who is knowledgeable, straight up and has been in the industry for over 16 years. After completing an inspection of my residence, I received a quote in via e mail from his friendly office staff within hours. After discussing the ten year product warranty, his two year service maintenance and labor warranty - I awarded the project to Velavi. Jose also thoroughly explained the process how he pulls the city permit, assist in HERS testing (required for city inspection) and has an employee present for the final City inspection. After signing the contract - his office staff contacted me via phone, pulled a permit and was at my residence the next morning. The crew removed and started installing the new system. Within two days the job is completed to my satisfaction and the HERS company is currently testing the entire system. BTW his office contacted me and was professional & communicated before each appointment. The crews are very detailed in installation, setting up tarps and cleaning up after each day. I would highly recommend Jose and his entire staff at Velavi Heating and Air - who is an authorized Trane installer. read more

Had a new furnace put in 2021. Hade to call them back because my living room hardwood floor was lifting because water was coming out. They came out and had seen what happened and took responsibility and they had to replace my hardwood floor. They did a poor Job. I recently called back and advise that one of my bedroom next to the unit there is water damage. They came out and said well you haven't maintained yearly service. With out asking me. I had another HVAC company come out to do the yearly maintenance. The young guy that came out said that he was going to go under the house to see why there is water damage. Came out and said that he will be emailing me the outcome. Two hours later I checked and was advise the following is needed. New duct $600 and maintenance $299.00. Really was never told this was needed by the Tech. This is horrible. When my husband got home from work he called them and spoke with Hector. Basically warranty has expired. Called Rooter Hero due to slow draining shower and bathroom sink, and slow flushing toilet. Thought it would just be a matter of using a plumbing snake to clear the pipes. Wrong. Team of Frankie and his assistant Clarissa put a camera in the pipes and showed us that the pipes were corroded and in some spots, cracked. It was a disaster. Our home has no attic so we knew it would be expensive. I was given a quote and I was nearly dizzy.... However....at the end of the job I knew why. These young folks along with Alex who showed up daily to assist, worked from morning to night replacing all of our pipes around the foundation so they didn't have to cut into our living room floor. Even when eating their lunch they ate fast and went back to work. Others At Rooter Hero showed up to do a section of the job and moved on but these three were consistent. Frankie, the leader of the group, kept us updated of the progress on a daily basis. Otis joined them about a week later and as the fourth member of the team worked tirelessly as the others. My AC unit broke couple days ago and I called around to a few places before I chose Velavi. They had an immediate appointment available so they sent a tech out to come inspect it. He asked how old this unit is and before even inspecting the unit he suggested we replace the whole AC unit. (Mine is pretty old) but still works perfectly fine. I knew as soon as he suggested that, that he was only here to upsale me. I've been in sales for 8 years and I know all the techniques he was using lmao. He said for him to inspect and deep clean it would be over 2k. Lol what ? He and another lady that he called continued to tell me that since it was really old, it would be hard to find parts to repair it. She then said she would call me back around 6pm to go over the costs for replacing the whole unit but never did and I'm glad she didn't cause I wouldn't have wasted my time and picked up. Anyways... Remove asbestos ducts/replace with new ducts, install new condenser, and remove/relocate furnace in the attic. 5 stars for a job well done. The job and price is 5 stars. Pros: Everything was communicated in detail beforehand. I didn't know that you had to assemble a furnace from scratch in the attic. Craftsmanship is great as far as I know. Cons: A few miscommunications, but it doesn't take away from the work/product. Originally, I asked if we can spread out the work over a few days (with 2 workers) but we agreed that 1 day (with 5 workers) would be better. Somehow on the start day, I only saw 2 workers show up and it took 3 days total. Another incident, I was originally told by the initial consultant Izzy that he would throw in a smart thermometer, but when asking about it at the end we noticed it was not in the contract. They were kind enough to install one we bought and deduct the price of the other thermometer so no complaints. All in all, they do great work and I would use them again. read more

Rooter Hero advised they'll arrive between 10:00am-12:00pm for an estimate in which they showed up around 4:00pm. The job I was seeking was to install and connect my condenser to a new location. The new a/c copper lines was already ran through the attic by another company to my desired new location except the electrical line which Rooter Hero would have to run. Basically they had to install my existing condenser to the new location and add a little bit of R-22, and electrical connection, more than half the work was already done. Rooter Hero tech began blowing smoke up my a** and said the condenser needs to be replaced due to being disconnected and exposed to moisture outside, yeah right!!! The company who disconnected the condenser insured the Freon is captured inside and is good to reinstall whenever I'm ready. Rooter Hero quoted me $3,305 to connect lines and run the electrical wire, and $8691 to replace my condenser..... I called them as soon as my a/c stopped working. They were so prompt. Angel Rodriguez was so honest & kind. He didn't even charge a diagnostic fee! I really appreciate how honest the agency is. We hired Velavi to install a new central air and furnace. We received quotes from several other vendors and went with Velavi for three reasons: their good reviews on yelp, their super competitive price, and lastly because they included city permits for free. This last one was key because it really demonstrated that they were confident in their work. They were also extremely responsive to questions i had along the way (which were many). The installation went well and the workers on our crew were polite and clean. Interestingly enough I had several folks in my attic post installation to provide quotes for some other work--- all of them commented that the new ac and duct work looked very well done.
