Roots Cafe is a local's staple for a reason. It's so charming and has a cozy ambiance that makes you want to stay for hours. It's so nice to sit on the patio in the summertime! Roots Cafe seasons their breakfast potatoes so well that they could serve them as their own main entree. They're delicious! The breakfast sandwich was good but nothing spectacular. (Usually I order the pancake of the day but decided to branch out.) This place is very popular so it can be a bit of a wait depending on what time you show up and if the patio seating area is open. But trust me, it's worth the wait!

Adorable cafe with a chill vibe and good coffee. Excellent vegetarian, gluten free, etc options. Friendly service and great patio. Also next to a cute vintage store.

Well? YUM!!! The food and experience was excellent!!! My friend and I were looking for a good brunch spot. When we went, there was an hour wait which ended up being more like 30 to 40 minutes. But while we were waiting, there was this darling little shop that had antiques, jewelry, and all kinds of fun things to look at. There was also an outdoor sitting area, which was a little cold, but today was a nice weather day, so it wasn't too bad. When we finally got seated, we were lucky to have a table in this outdoor tent kind of thing. It was heated inside and quiet. Worth the wait for sure. The service was great considering how busy it was. We got our food quickly and received all of our items that we ordered and anything that we asked extra was received quickly. The food was delicious! I decided to get the breakfast burrito and my protein was avocado. The burrito was crispy on the outside, but everything inside was cooked to perfection. The salsa wasn't as spicy as I normally like but did have a good flavor. We split one pancake, which I think I could probably go in there and get a whole stack of those. It was good. Also, I got a pressed juice which was really delicious. My friend got the eggs Benedict and loved her food as well. All in all, this was an excellent experience. I will definitely go back with friends and family.

Inside the busy restaurant! Cute and eclectic!

I love this place! Cute, eclectic, and lots of energy. I think the ambiance will improve as the patio opens. But I was there for a client meeting which made it hard to hear the conversation. The food is 5-Star. Feels very garden to table with everything fresh. I ordered the Orgaic Chicken Piccata with Polenta. I expected the Polenta to be similar to grits. But instead, it's a "cake". The sauce was too for for and they brought I'd extra without even asking. I'll definitely be back with time to explore the shop next to the restaurant. I would've given 5-stars, but deduction was based on noise level and their iced tea. It tasted like coffee some how.

Came to this cute lil cafe when they opened on Sunday and got seated right away. Ordered the eggs benedict with the cottage bacon (pork shoulder) and it was yummy. Potatoes were great, but some were bit burnt.

Cute spot with tasty food. You got a chance to sit in the yurt, which was a fun experience. There were several tables set up in and it was quite unique. Our server Cody was helpful and gave us a lot of good suggestions on what to choose from the menu. The ambience was laid-back and I loved the music selection playing in the background. I got a pesto sandwich which was extremely delicious and filling and it came with a side of homestyle potatoes. I highly recommend coming here if you want friendly service and really good food.

This is comfort food with a capital C. Really good, original dishes. I had the enchilada casserole and it was great. It comes with a side salad and it was delicious too. I've been here for breakfast before but this was the first time I've tried lunch. The service here was perfectly executed from the front desk to our server. The restaurant is a casual neighborhood hangout. Very relaxed.

such a great breakfast place. we loved the buttermilk pancakes but my favorite dish was the polenta benny. the edges of the polenta was crispy, the eggs were poached beautifully, and the hollandaise was delectable. next time i would either ask for the bacon extra crispy or get the cottage bacon. service was wonderful everyone is so kind! love the decor and the vibe of the place.

What a cute little place in Millcreek/Olympus Cove area. It was super busy on the weekend my friend and I got together for a girl's brunch, but they had available, shaded, outdoor seating on that hot summer day, so it was perfect! Our waitress was attentive and helpful. The food was delightful and flavorful. I forgot to try the baked goods that they had at the restaurant entrance that looked delicious! I'll be back in the future, and will head to the Old Flamingo after to walk off the meal!

Roots is yummy! I had the breakfast sandwich, it was tasty, and full of flavor. The potatoes were delicious as well. The bacon was thick and crisp just the way I like it. The patio is awesome, shady, and relaxing. Our server was really nice and patient. He was helpful and seemed genuine, and in a good mood. He kept the water filled, and was on top of everything. They also have good pancakes! Most restaurant pancakes are subpar but these had flavor, and goodness. I'm excited to come back and try more stuff!

An SLC classic! I recently went with a group of friends, half of which have never been to Roots, and everyone loved it. We got to sit outside on the patio in the nice crisp fall air--the hot coffee was great for that. I got the Roots B & G with sausage, and it was stellar. I love biscuits and gravy, and this one did not disappoint. If you're looking for a great place for brunch, look no further than Roots. One thing to note: during peak hours, the waits can be pretty long, but don't worry! The Old Flamingo antique and vintage store next door is a great place to pass the time!

    Aaron B.

Came on a Sunday afternoon around 12pm. Took about 30-40 min to get called. Not bad. We spent most of that time looking around in the Flamingo antique shop next door. The food was good. I ordered the Southerner omelette. Nice flavor. Not spicy at all, even with the jalapeños. I ordered the Bloody Good drink which contains beet juice, OJ and some other juices. Really good and refreshing. It was room temp, wish it was more chilled. The thing that kind of got me was the waiting area. It's connected to the hallway leading to the restrooms. The waiting area smelled like the restroom. I couldn't get that smell outta my sinuses while I ate. Other than that the place is nice.

They do full-service sit-down and to-go orders and have a wide selection of hot and cold sandwiches, bagels, dessert, other New York/Jewish style deli foods, and beer! Sloppy Joe - 5/5 - A large (1/2 lb) double decker sandwich with pastrami and corned beef. There are 3 layers of bread. The meats are tender and flavorful and blend nicely together with the thousand island dressing and slaw between the layers. It also comes with a side, I picked the potato salad which was good too. Not too much mayo but it was still nice and creamy. I just wish I got a little more potato salad to match the portion size of the sandwich! Potato Latke Pancakes - 4.5/5 - They were nice, hot, and crispy. You get 2 pancakes which have a nice thickness to them too. The flavor was good, I just think you should get more sour cream and apple sauce. It comes with a small cup of each, but its not quite enough for the 2 pancakes and its 50c each to get extra! Matzo Ball Soup - 3/5 - The matzo ball and soup broth both had a good flavor. The proportions were just off however, a huge matzo ball but not enough broth. And the broth didn't have enough of chicken meat and veggies (carrot/celery). I basically had 1/2 the matzo ball left over at the end Attempted Murder Imperial Stout Beer - 5/5 - Its a vanilla cinnamon stout. The flavor is subtle but in a good way! Its not sweet, but has a smooth bitterness and mouthfeel with a slight fragrance of the vanilla cinnamon. If you like stout, def give this a try. Its a strong one too, 10.5% ABV! The restaurant was clean, service was good, and there is a good amount of seating and its decorated nicely inside. Def give this place a try!

The owner was kind and helped me pick between the two sandwiches I was being indecisive about - the Oh Schnitzel and the Hot Chopped Cheese. He asked if I could handle spicy and I said yes. I let him choose a sandwich for me between the two and he chose the Hot Chopped Cheese and said he thinks I'd enjoy it. He described it as a sandwich with chopped-up cheeseburger fillings inside, and they use a lamb and beef patty instead of just beef. Right, he was. I thoroughly enjoyed the sandwich and the meat was spiced and slightly spicy, but nothing I couldn't handle. The sandwich was flavorful, and I'm impressed that the bread wasn't too thick because sometimes places serve sandwiches with way too much bread-to-filling ratio. The bread was also a nice texture, I'm glad it wasn't too toasty or crunchy like some sandwiches can get that rub the roof of my mouth raw. I felt like I had a well-balanced meal out of the Chopped Cheese. Flavor-packed meat, cheese, veggies, bread - that's all you need. The food was delicious, and I don't doubt that the rest of the items on the menu taste great, but the prices feel high, yes, even in this economy. I say this because I was able to finish this sandwich and still felt I had room to eat some more, perhaps a little snack. I almost always cannot comfortably finish my food in one sitting when dining out, so that was a sign to me that this wasn't all that much food, and I could tell from the get-go because the sandwich did look small.
