    Korean BBQ chicken bowl
    Michael B.

Fast, fresh, healthy food - been here many times and have never had bad service or problems with the food. My bowl was the "Garu" which had Korean BBQ chicken, sesame sauce, kimchi, sesame sticks, all with crunchy vegetables / rice / kale. They don't overdo the sauce either. Roots is certainly in the top tier of fast-casual so check them out if you're in the area.

Oh my gosh. I chose a make your own bowl and it was so much food. It was delicious and enough for two meals. They have a nice selection of items to put on your salad or rice. Staff were efficient. Roots has parking in the back lot and requires walking around the building to enter. They have a large amount of both indoor and outdoor seating. There are booths and somewhat secluded areas to sit. Roots is a good place for a healthy quick meal.

Stopped here completely on a whim with my sister in law and we will definitely be returning! I got the Balboa bowl and I'm telling you that everything about it is DELICIOUS! Up there with one of the best bowls I've ever had. All the flavors were so good! The lime pickled onions, the charred corn, sweet potatoes with the ceased and franks hot, Like just trust me and go order that. There was indoor seating as well as outdoor seating.

Yum! This is a great place to grab a quick, fresh lunch. I ordered the pesto caesar salad which is a unique combination but it worked well. The food is good for a fast-casual store of place and the restaurant itself was clean and has a good variety of seating. You can customize your bowl with various ingredients or order (and customize, if you want!) one-of their bowls. Lots of people were doing pick-up orders so this is a great option for that.

Been to Roots several times and absolutely love it. I can not believe I forgot to write a review for it. I would consider Roots to be basically a fast food resturaunt. By that I mean you can get in and out very fast. They work on the Chipotle module where you go down a line and fill your bowl with the items you choose once done they serve it to you. I had the spinach and kale salad with cucumbers, tomato, beets, carrots & chicken and dressing. The staff are friendly and very helpful in the process. The salad is delicious and super healthy unlike going to Mcdonalds or BK. I will definetly keep going back for more as the place is great. If you have not been to Roots you must go. Roots is a must visit for Pittsburgh.

Roots just opened this past weekend in East Liberty/Bloomfield area and it seems like they're already off to a great start! There was a bit of a line in the late afternoon but the employees got people through in record time and the wait wasn't too bad at all--frankly I'm just glad they're having lots of patrons during Covid! The quality food and fresh ingredients were expertly prepared and the the flavors were awesome! Definitely worth a stop by if I'm the area.

From my second visit ... this is El Jefe. Just as tasty! The iced tea here is also very good! I'll be back! More to try!

My favorite salad spot! I was looking for a salad restaurant similar to Sweet Green and I am now obsessed with Roots! Why Roots? - generous topping portions and the salad size is big (deep bowl)! - great selection for customization / substitutions - friendlier prices for a healthier restaurant and they use local grown veggies! (I've paid $18 for salads like these before) - allergy signs for easy understanding - protein sizes are huge! Most health stores skimp out on the protein or give you tiny chopped protein but not here! - dressing made in house ! Root bowls I've tried : - Mayweather salad : My favorite ! I sub the goat cheese for feta and the dressing to basil balsamic! - el jefe rice bowl: tastes similar flavors to a chipotle bowl! - lil bob Cobb salad : also super good, my husband likes to add mushrooms to this! Teas: - they have natural ingredient teas and they're slightly bland from the draft but they offer organic agave to sweeten it up which is rare to see! The salad bowls fills me up and I'm able to have leftovers too! I highly recommend trying out Roots! I've been back 3x this week ever since I discovered Roots!

Plant friendly and just yummy! Since this was my first time in, I decided to try The Southern, an item with the ingredients selected for you to create a tasty bowl. Since I was omitting the feta cheese the nice woman working told me I could substitute another ingredient for it. She recommended sweet potato, so I did just that. The bowl was so delicious, fresh, and felt truly like a good CLEAN meal! I enjoyed every bite. I also loved the tahini lemon dressing my ingredients were mixed in. Not only do that have a bunch of vegan combinations, but they offer many other options as well like chicken and shrimp. I came to grab a quick lunch and was so impressed how clean and well taken care of this lunch spot is. I instantly noticed the man cooking on the grill using a food thermometer checking the tofu and making sure it was up to par. Then as I'm standing in line I watch him handle raw chicken then instantly wash his hands and put fresh gloves on. Makes you feel better eating here that's for sure! If you plan ahead, download the app and order for a quick pick up! It would for sure save you some time!

Roots is a wonderful addition to Bloomfield and my Go to meal when I need healthy takeout! The Balboa bowl is what my dreams are made of. The bowls are huge and filling and loaded with flavor. I also feel the cost is reasonable for all the food you get. If you order on their app, you select your pickup time and in my experience, they're always super prompt! If you're looking for a healthy choice, this is the place!

    Ankita S.

Tasty, Healthy and Fresh! I created a bowl with a mix of Acadian mix and brown rice as base. Broccoli, beets, chickpeas, sweet potatoes, pickled onions, carrots, jalapeños, cheese and bbq tofu. It was mixed with cilantro lime dressing, sriracha sauce and a dash of lemon! Lots of vegetarian options!

We celebrated our 10yr anniversary here for dinner & it was definitely worth it. Unblemished ambiance & service. We were at the restaurant side- very chic & intimate. They have a casual tavern area along the bar on the other side. And an upstairs section. When you look up, there's an entire wall of huge wine selection. For cocktails we had the Cosmopolitan & Strawberry Smash-- both prepared great! Cosmos are usually a hit/miss situation for me; this was really good though- not too tart nor sweet-- very well balanced w/ a mild hint of vodka coming through, which after a few sips hits you in a nice, soft way. Husb said the Strawberry Smash was bangin!!-- the sibona amaro in it stabilized the fruitiness of the drink. For apps, we ordered the Calamari- it was soooo good & crispy/crunchy, I had to prevent myself from stuffing everything in my mouth! I was a bit sad I had to share this w/ my husb lol. It came with a hot & sour sauce w/ lemon which overall made the dish unique. For entree, I had the Scottish Salmon, came w/ scallops & I added crab cake to it. Succulent salmon was seared w/ great flavor, the sweet corn & pepper mixed in a tomato vinaigrette on the side under the scallops was just unbelievable. The crab cake was cut squared, hands down one of the best cakes. The flavor profile for the entire dish together in a bite was incomparable!! Definitely order this. Husb ordered the Gerber Farms Chicken, amish chicken served w/ risotto, greens on top of thyme jus (akin to a thin gravy). The chicken was cooked well-- juicy on the inside & a nice roast on the outside; the risotto wasnt heavy & didn't weigh the meal down, the thyme jus's flavor was subtle & it elevated the entire dish. For dessert, we got the Chocolate Hazelnut tart & Eleven Candy bar. I legit relished & inhaled the tart despite already being so full. Husb loved the Candy bar. A huge slice of brownie/caramel candy bar w/ chocolate mousse phew! The pics explain how mindblowin' everything was! A real one-of-a kind experience. Ron was great in explaining everything too. Taxes they add to the bill: sales, alcohol & Allegheny tax which raises the end charge. A toast to the chefs & Mixologists here.

My experiences have not been high-end, perhaps more "tinfoil" than sapphire, to say the least....see below. That being said, it's proven to be a very middling experience each time, especially from a service standpoint. Each time has had mysterious delayed times to get waited upon, receive food and drinks, and every time has featured a mysterious disappearing item that we had to politely "remind" the server about after receiving the bill. On this occasion, we were offered to still receive a missing drink even though it was incredibly clear that we were ready to leave. One time, sure, but all three visits have had issues. This time, when the final bill was corrected, the math didn't seem to make sense - removing a $14 drink and the total came out $5 less. I'm being candid in saying instead of even dealing with the server once more, their tip corrected the discrepancy - no issues in dealing with the situation in that manner, given the sub-par service. Unacceptable and frustrating to have 3/3 times experiencing significant service issues. Food-wise, it's a solid "4" rating - salads have all been great, the dishes we'd recommend are the black cod and the short ribs. Good selection of semi-local beer and extensive wine list. It was noted that the menu had "changed" with the season, but the overall menu was 80% the same with some very subtle modifications - all over a two-year period. First time we went here, we sat at the tables above the bar area, and unfortunately there was a very bar-like smell that could be experienced throughout the meal (imagine having fine dining at the Rock Room on Polish Hill) - thankfully these other two times have been in the main dining area, on nights that haven't been very busy (adding to the frustration regarding the service notes above). Honestly, this is a legacy restaurant here in Pittsburgh, it's a shame that newer places with great food + service have a hard time launching in this environment.

LOVED our dinner at this place…read more We came here for dinner while visiting Pittsburgh. The first thing that struck me was the interior decor. Very industrial and moody with an open kitchen/preparation area that adds some intrigue. I do like to see the happenings of what's going on as someone with zero attention span. Service was excellent. George was fantastic. He kept a close eye on us without being overbearing. He anticipated what we might need so we didn't spend one second waiting to order anything. The menu is not endless or overwhelming which, presumably, allows them to focus on the items that are listed. I have decision panic so it was kinda nice to have less things to choose from. They asked if there were any allergies or dietary restrictions so I mentioned my vegetarianism. George went through the menu and pointed out the vegetarian options including what seems like it is vegetarian but isn't. They had TWO vegetarian entree options and fortunately the non-mushroom one was something I probably would have ordered anyway: pesto with walnuts, arugula, and a very generous amount of grated cheese. To start, I ordered the Brussels sprouts whichc I was warned had fish sauce. This was fine but nothing that blew me away. GF, on the other hand, loved this. GF ordered the wedge which was brought to our attention as vegetarian with the bacon on the side, which was her request. We ended up sharing both, a large part of that was because hers came out first and I couldn't wait but I'm so glad because the wege was FANTASTIC. The dressing? holy fuck pure ecastasy. The wedge was more like a filet shape which was much easier to eat. Who decided on the wedge shape anyway? The lettuce was so fresh and crisp and went wonderfully with that orgasmic dressing and breadcrumbs. Back to my pasta. Also delectable. Noodles were al dente. The sauce was creamy and packed that pesto umami flavor. The walnuts were a really nice contrast in texture. Everything about it absolutely fucking slapped. GF ordered the mushroom entree which came served on a bed of barley which, don't mind if I do, had a few forkfuls to "sample" for "my review". Again, so fucking good. Because it was my birthday, George provided a dessert (yuzu maybe?) that was served inside a meringue-esque igloo, creamy perfect balance of sweet and tart custard with some berry business underneath. Wonderful. I almost forgot their spectacular cocktails! Holy shit, literally they have a CORN CHIP cocktail that I could not pass up. It comes with two massive cornchips on top of a flavored foam. When you bring the glass up to sip, the cornchips are right in front of your nose and their aroma sets the stage for the drink which was STRONG. It wasn't as corn chip forward as I expected but I understand that flavor is probaly hard to create. For my second drink, I ordered the blue one which was refreshing, light, and really good. GF ordered a spritz which was gorgeous "it was good". For second round, I picked out some uranium thing that was very cucumbery, GF says, "it was good". I just read it outloud to her. "it's true!" Fantastic meal at a great place.

Our cocktails were subdued but very tasty. First we were served a pea soup shooter--we all wanted a whole bowl. I got the special, seared tuna with a shrimp over udon noodles and a Hoisin sauce with some sort of wasabi. Again, the flavors were unique but not overpowering. Also got the chicken with couscous and peas. Sounds plain but it was anything but plain. The other mains were just as good. We finished off with three desserts. The carrot cake got rave reviews from my dining partners (not my style). The Creme Brulle was very large and perfectly cooked. But the best dessert was the deconstructed Smore. The chocolate, the merengue, the graham crumbs, a little ice cream. Oh, I'm going to be dreaming of this dessert for a long time! Everything was perfect. They ferment the egg in soy sauce, which gives it such a unique depth of flavor. The duck was the best confit I've had in Pittsburgh, and the schnitzel was incredibly flavorful. I wish I could figure out how to prepare beets like that at home, because it just can't be beet (lol). Truly, every dish was spot on. The atmosphere is beautiful--quiet, warm, and inviting. I honestly don't know how I missed this place for the last seven years, but I'll be frequenting it from now on. The only downside came at the end of the night. Overall, the service had been solid, and the chef even stopped by to explain the egg fermentation process, which was such a thoughtful touch. But after we ordered our last drink--and after we had already tipped--the server began pushing us out. "There's another reservation for your table in 10 minutes," we were told, despite there being more than six empty tables. We had just ordered a dessert to go, and what if we had planned to enjoy it there? It felt abrupt and unnecessary, especially after tipping well over 25%. Even with that experience, I will certainly return. The food is exceptional, and the chances of getting the same server again are slim. I just hope the staff learns not to rush customers paying such high prices, because an otherwise wonderful evening was marred by that moment. This American habit of pushing diners out the door is simply ludicrous.

I've been wanting to try Siempre Algo for a while now and finally snagged a Friday night…read morereservation. It's in a really awesome space that feels intimate without being too crowded. You're given a complimentary glass of champagne when they seat you which is such a fun touch. The menu changes daily! The food was outstanding. We had the spinach and artichoke dip, a warm baguette, the wagyu shortrib, the dungeness crab salad, and the vanilla bourbon & sea salt ice cream for dessert. Everything was delicious. 4 stars because the server asked us to leave immediately after we finished (about 1 hour and 45 minutes after we were seated) so the next reservation could have the table-which felt a bit rude.
