Everyone seems to know everyone. The owner says hello to everyone who walks in. We got a fun spot for 2 in the window. It was great people watching. We ordered an arugula salad, some cavatelli shrimp pasta and a bottle of wine. And of course, the famous garlic bread. Everything was flavorful and well executed. The service was fantastic. Everyone is super friendly and welcoming. We wanted to sit at the bar, but it was full. Our server told us the story of the chef turned owner, and the family story. I'm disappointed. I came here and picked up my order on a Saturday night 2/28/26. It was extremely busy and lively. I waited at the bar waiting to be greeted. No one cared to say "hi". I went over to a guy on the POS, told him I had an order. A older man came from behind me and put his hands on me and asked what I was doing at the bar alone and if I was having a fun night. During the exchange he forcefully placed his hand down on the host stand while speaking, which felt scary and intimidating. A nearby guest noticed what was happening and kindly offered us her reservation. Rather than handling this professionally, the host appeared irritated. After additional discussion he agreed to seat us but told us "here's the kicker, you need to be out by 8:00", making it clear that we were not welcome. We were polite and respectful throughout the entire interaction, yet the experience left us feeling dismissed and shaken. Parking can be a bit tricky, street parking is limited, but there is valet available for $15 in the back alley, which made things easy. I chose to sit outside, so I didn't get to fully experience the interior ambiance of the restaurant, but the patio was still a great spot to enjoy the evening. I started with the escargot, which was served piping hot and full of rich, buttery flavor. For my main course, I ordered the spaghetti Marmonte, and it was also extremely hot and absolutely satisfying, comforting, flavorful, and well-prepared. Although I skipped dessert, the espresso martini more than made up for it. It had just the right amount of sweetness and was the perfect way to end the meal. The reason for my overall 3 stars was the food. While fairly priced, the actual preparation and quality were not to standards. Cesar salad greens were brown. Over dressed. Nice presentation with the anchovies on top. But offset by the brown edges of the romaine. The shrimp piccata was over sauced. IMO. Too many capers. Perhaps an attempt to cover the chewy shrimp. Overcooked. I had the swordfish and it too was overcooked. As for the pastas they were good. Should we return, would most likely stick w their pastas. Wine list was good. But the wine is not held at proper temperature. 55 to 65 degrees for most reds. Clearly room temperature. In the 70s. Again, staff and service is great. Food quality needs some work. read more

My daughter and her friends had a truly unsettling experience here. Before arriving, we called to ask if there was seating for four. The woman who answered the phone told us that if we could arrive within 10 minutes, she could accommodate them. We got them there in under five. When the girls entered, they spoke with the host and requested a table for four. Immediately, they felt unwelcome. He appeared annoyed by their presence and told them there was a 2 hour and 55 minute wait. They explained the phone call they had just made, and he responded that the best he could do is seat them in 1 hour and 55 minutes. His tone was condescending and aggressive enough that a nearby guest felt compelled to offer them her own reservation. When that guest offered her reservation, he said it was for two, not four. After some back and forth, he finally agreed to seat them but said, "Here's the kicker you have to be out of here by 8." It was about 7:10 at the time. At that point, I told the girls to leave and we would go elsewhere. All of the girls are in their early 20s, UC med and law students, all Asian. I have known them since they were children. They are polite, respectful, and absolutely did not deserve this treatment. I am not quick to label situations like this, but I am calling it what it was, racist and discriminatory. There is no reasonable explanation for how availability went from "come in right away" to nearly a three hour wait after he saw who they were. The next day, I called the restaurant to give the benefit of the doubt and see if this was a misunderstanding. I asked to speak to the manager. Frank answered and said he was the manager. When I began calmly explaining the situation, he immediately cut me off, raised his voice, and minimized everything that happened. He claimed he offered them a table and said, "How do you know your daughter isn't lying?" When I told him my daughter was with me and I could put her on the phone immediately, he hung up on me. At no point did he deny the behavior my daughter described. He never claimed they were rude or disruptive. Instead, he talked over me, became hostile, and berated me on the phone. It was defensive, aggressive, and completely unprofessional behavior I would expect from a toddler having a tantrum, not someone in charge of a business. I later learned that Frank was the host, manager, and possibly the owner, which makes this even more concerning. If this is how leadership behaves, it explains the experience entirely. He could greatly benefit from anger management and basic customer service training. This was unacceptable on every level and just sad. The girls just wanted to have a nice Christmas celebration on their break and instead they received discriminatory treatment. Not what you would expect from a 3 dollar sign restaurant. read more

The waiter told me it wouldn't be heavy but that wasn't true. My friend got the lobster ravioli and didn't care for it either. The garlic bread was good though. My soda didn't get refilled until I asked and then I didn't want to ask for a second time so it sat empty for about half the meal. My water cup was empty by the end too. After loving our first visit back in November, we decided to return to celebrate a birthday with some friends! We were able to make a reservation with ease online, but will note that with such an intimate / cozy dining room, we were fairly squished. There were times when our server asked our group to move so she could squeeze through, and others when she sort of just pushed through bumping a few of us. On that note, our server was just okay. However, she did bring a birthday dessert over which was very nice. As for the food and drink, everything was truly delicious per usual. If you've never been, you could just eat plates of the garlic bread and still leave happy! I will note to beware of extra pricing. A friend was asked if she would like to add protein to her pasta and requested shrimp not realizing that it would add an additional $14-16 to her dish for only two shrimp tails! Service was spotty - Debbie handled reception and welcome extremely well. Erica was efficient but absent for most of the meal. She tried to be friendly but managed mostly to be surly. Ambiance - we arrived by reservations at 4pm. By 5pm most tables were still empty and noise level was very low. Food quality is highly questionable...looking throughout the menu and website I find nothing about sourcing...we asked Erica where they got their flour. She didn't know and apparently could not find out. From the website it's "locally sourced" so this appears to be a place that not only doesn't list sourcing but will use local-sourced glyphosate-rich flour. We have the ribs which were excellent. The vegetables were chopped and very fresh and well-prepared...where did they come from? we don't know. Was anything cooked in seed oils? We don't know. We had the olive appetizer...we're certain these olives came out of a jar - not "marinated" but just several varieties pickled together in a jar. We had two kinds of pasta - one on the rib plate was with tomato cream sauce and one as a side dish - spaghetti in oil and butter. These were not anything that we would ask for again. I ordered a margarita and returned it - not sure why it tasted so bad but my guess the mix was wrong. I ordered a Chianti and set it aside as it was unremarkable. We ended with a Cappuccino and a creme brûlée....a terrible ending as the Cappuccino was Lavazza...a powdered Italian concoction that nobody who has ever had a halfway decent freshly roasted and ground espresso would accept...consider a powdered coffee out of a can...how does that fit the name of this restaurant? The creme brûlée was a mushy liquid covered by a thick layer of caramelized sugar - definitely done in the kitchen. The Rothschilds name is a heavy cross to bare. Most people will think it connotes a globalist elite who would not allow a restaurant with their name unless it was absolutely the best - excellent in every way. But there are many restaurants in the local area who have better more consistent service, a higher level of expertise in the kitchen, a reputation for using only Italian flour, local organic produce, and sourced meats with attribution of the actual ranch each type of meat came from. And they're not silent about the use of seed oils. This restaurant rests too heavily on its reputation, name, and establishment date (1977) implying older is better. The enclosed photo from their website says it all. If I were to recommend a benchmark there are many....down the street Forettis, in Irvine and Laguna, Olivers. In Laguna and Newport Nick's. Most importantly the culture of entitlement and surly "we are Rothschilds" attitude needs to be left behind. It's a trap. You can be critical when spending $165 for dinner for two. read more

I was introduced to this restaurant through a friend and we had such a lovely time in the seller as a private party that I couldn't wait to come back a few weeks later for my anniversary. It is so cozy and warm, which was amazing for a rainy night. The staff were incredibly warm and friendly, professional, courteous, and competent - all the things! The drinks were amazing and as a vegan, I always appreciate when the staff are able to help me find some good options. The bruschetta and the brussels sprouts could be made vegan the brussels sprouts were incredible. And then we had the pasta which could be made vegan without cheese. Oh, and the fries! Small, cute, long standing restaurant in Corona del Mar. Packed and loud on a busy holiday Saturday night. Salmon picatta was cooked perfectly and the flavors were delish. Comes with potatoes (yummy) and vegetables (bland and undercooked). The spaghetti was somewhat of a miss. The sauce was too watery IMO. Service was struggling and it wasn't just because of the busy night. She seemed flustered but I'll chock it up to it maybe just being a bad day. read more
