I had some pipes break under my house the other day and I called Roto-rooter. Fred was my main contact and he was very professional, friendly and nice. Five different guys came out for this plumbing issue and all of them were great. It appears the leak is gone now and Fred even swung back by this morning to make sure everything was done to my satisfaction which is nice in 2026 where so many people don't even seem to try anymore. I called them out to snake a clog because they were fast and reasonably priced when I called 4 years ago. This time they didn't give me a quote in advance and it was 50% more than last time. They had someone come out with a camera without informing me that it would be an extra charge. The guy with the camera told me my cast iron pipes were so "rotten" that I needed to replace them on an emergency basis and that I shouldn't even flush toilet paper in the meantime. He quoted me $43000 (my house is less than 1000 sq ft with 1 bathroom). He made up a weird story about having to promise to work overtime to get me a "discount" even though he "doesn't work on commission", I guess so I would feel pressured since he was supposedly doing me a favor. That plus the supposed urgency made me wary because that's exactly how scammers operate. I had a much more reputable company out the next day to get a second opinion and come to find out, not only are my pipes completely fine and expected to last at least 3-5 more years, but the actual going rate when I do need the work is less than $20000. So I wasted time and energy trying to figure out how to pay for this "emergency repair" plus the fee for the 2nd company to run the camera for literally no reason. Roto-Rooter clearly saw a female homeowner and assumed I would make a good mark. I will never call them again. This is possibly the WORST COMPANY I have ever dealt with. I called them to get them to put a camera down a line to find a block or break. The kitchen sink was backing up. They told me that is not the way they do it. They actually hydrojetted the line and forced hundreds of gallons water in the line and flowed into the house - into the walls and subfloor. Then they sent their mitigation team in to scare my tenants that they were going to have to demo the walls and floors. They also told my tenants that they were going to have to move out until the whole process of mitigating the damage they created would be resolved. They gave me a preliminary estimate of up to $12,000 for mitigation and that did not include any costs to restore and complete the project. They checked the recorded conversation from when I first called in and agreed that the service they performed was not what I requested and returned the $895 they charged me. I reached out to the general manager Ryan to follow up on the mitigation and follow up and never heard back. Subsequently reached out to the corporate office and was put into a voicemail. I am lucky I stopped them from performing anymore services. After reviewing other reviews I'm glad I stopped working with them before this situation even got worse and more expensive. I had a kitchen flood and because it was an active water loss situation, I understandably moved quickly with mitigation services. When the Roto-Rooter supervisor came out that evening he gave me a whole song and dance about how they would work with insurance, it would be fully covered, etc. while providing me with quite a large range of estimate. At certain points he even said he was quoting "high" so it would help the coverage. The final invoice ended up being so dramatically higher than what my insurance company and their independent third-party reviewer determined was reasonable and customary for the work performed that they could not come to an agreement. Even after revisions, there remained a significant dispute regarding pricing and scope which I am responsible for. Throughout this process, I was caught in the middle between Roto-Rooter and Nationwide/Accuserve, despite having no meaningful involvement in directing the mitigation scope, equipment usage, or pricing decisions during the emergency response itself. Communication from Roto-Rooter throughout the billing process was inconsistent and contradictory. I received multiple notices threatening collections activity, liens, and a Notice to Owner while the invoice was still actively under review and while the insurance company was in the process of issuing payment for the undisputed amount. This created a tremendous amount of unnecessary stress during an already difficult home restoration process. My advice to anyone using emergency mitigation services is: - Don't use this company - Ask detailed questions about billing and insurance negotiations upfront especially as RotoRooter is known to "overcharge" insurance and when they don't pay make it the liability of the homeowner - Request itemized documentation early - Understand exactly what you are signing regarding payment responsibility - Be prepared for potential disputes between mitigation vendors and insurance reviewers I understand emergency mitigation work is expensive and time-sensitive, but I do not believe homeowners should be placed in the middle of prolonged billing disputes between vendors and insurers while simultaneously facing threats of collections or liens before the insurance review process has fully concluded. The only bright spot were the technicians who actually did the work were professional, responsive, and seemed to know what they were doing. read more

Then they did their whole speech about how important it is we get it taken care of and called me later to see if I had decided yet. (The repair is complete now and the final price was over $20,000 less than their quote) Also, for a simple leak we had, they charged over $2,000 in the past and were at our house for about 30 minutes to fix it. We've used Roto Rooter for two services, but won't be calling for a third. The first time was a main sewer line repair and the second was a hot water heater replacement. The first repair was poorly coordinated in terms of communication. People weren't telling us when they were coming by or when they were finished. They just showed up and left unanounced. But they did the job so we called again when the heater broke. The heater replacement was worse. We paid $3400 for a new tank water heater replacement and only $1000 went towards the materials. The remaining $2400 went towards someone spending 10 hours at our house to, yes, replace the heater, but also to leave ugly 1 ft long holes in our drywall (they looked like they were created with blunt force instead of actually cutting first; see photo). The holes were ultimately unnecessary for the replacement. I called back and Roto Rooter told us they wouldn't do drywall repairs. They sent someone else out (who also didn't call before getting to our house again; woke up my sick napping toddler, very stressful) just to tell me it was our duty to get a quote from another contractor so Roto Rooter could pay us back for the drywall repair. Overall, working with them was more frustrating than if I had simply bought a new heater myself and Youtube-d my way through the repair. Totally not worth $2400. read more

In a nutshell: Low accountability, high prices, but fast responses. We hired Rotor Rooter based off good Google Reviews near us. But should've also checked Yelp. This company chooses money over reputation and customer satisfaction. And when push comes to shove, know that they will prioritize income over a repeat customer. Keep that in mind in your decisions. We used this company to stop a water tank leak and subsequent mitigation. They showed up very quick. The technician was friendly and helped us, charging a flat fee of $350 to install a valve to stop the leak. We also used the company to mitigate the water damage. Being an emergency, and time was of essence to prevent mold. However, the company damaged our dryer during the mitigation, leaving a giant dent. Unfortunately, as we did not have a picture immediately prior to the damage, the company refused to compensate. This was very disappointing, as it turned what would've been an otherwise good experience into a frustrating one. Even a token amount would've made us feel like the company cares. But they do not budge. Finally, on the mitigation prices -- the company charges towards the higher end of the market. You can usually do better, price wise, by finding alternatives. Luckily, we had an insurance adjuster to keep the costs honest, but it was still much higher than we've used for similar work (ServPro, for comparison). Overall, if you are in an emergency and needs someone to respond, and is OK with paying higher fees, then this can do. We had an awful experience with roto rooter Austin. They charged us $300 to splash water on our shower walls, claim that the massive water damage to our neighbors below was from our shower door having a small gap with the wall, traveling through our wall, down to our neighbor, and causing it to accumulate enough to form a bubble on their wall. Then they said it was a valve on our toilet (which we never saw) so they ripped the toilet out to replace it. After the work was completed the leak to our neighbor was still active. They didn't check all the possible spots where the leak could be coming from obviously so they never identified the actual source. You could never pay me to work with these people again. read more

They made an appointment to come to my house on Sunday afternoon and didn't show. When we called, they claimed they had tried to contact us but hadn't. We had also specifically told them the issue was probably related to sprinklers and they said that would be fine. I had just recently purchased my home here is Buda and not a week upon moving in we had a backup in both bathrooms. Roto-rooter was not my first option it was a plumber however that plumber was unable to get to my house and my mother who is in her 70's was here helping us move into our home. Upon realizing the plumbing issue, we immediately stopped using the toilets and water and cleaned up any standing water in those rooms as soon as we saw the backup. There was no runing water and no standing water in my rooms. I called Roto rooter to come out and see what was going on with the plumbing. They also sent out water mitigation to assess water damage. The water mitigation guy was here before the plumber and immediately asked me who my insurance carrier was. Once I told him he then started assessing my house and stated that everywhere i had strong heavy duty tile in was 100% saturated but the areas that the tile touched laminate flooring the flooring under the laminate was not affected by the water. Hmm seemed strange but okay. Plumber came in stated we had a root break through the pipe to the main pipe outside and immediately it was oh no you have your neighbors feces and pee in the house under everything and dont worry your insurance will play everything you only have a deductible with them to meet. I got an estimate from him saying demolition would cost between $2,500-$7,500 so i signed it and i paid out of pocket the $4,500 for the fixing of the outside pipe, which i had to sign two estimates for as the first one wasnt enough to fix the pipe so a new estimate had to be signed for them to continue the work. They come in and totally rip out my brand new tile throughout my whole house put holes in my walls on top of cutting out portions of my walls and left thinset throughout the house with jagged pieces of tile in certain places. They didnt even clean up well and we kept stepping on pieces of tile once they left. They put in so many fans and dehumidifiers and an air scrubber in the house we were tripping over fans just to try and get to the bathroom or walk to the kitchen to get dinner. Once they finally after 5-7 days removed their equipment we get an invoice of almost $18,000 worth of work. Pictures provided same pictures over and over again along with a few pictures of not even my home. I have a 1 story home maybe 1700 sqft And some pictures where of a two story property. I never received an updated estimate from them and being that i just got a mortgage on this property and had this issue i would not be able to get lending to pay them. My first mortgage payment wasn't even due yet when this all happened. I told them the issue and said i cant pay that insurance is not paying it plus you left a disaster in my house and what little bit of work that would have needed to be done is now going to cost me to fix between 60-80 thousand dollars. They told me they cant take small payments of $50-$100 a month due to the amount owed and i said there is nothing else i can do so they turned me over to their litigation collections people who have now put a lien on my homestead property. they have now clouded my title to the property making it even harder to get a loan to either fix my property after their complete destruction of it or even to help pay them. If i was given an updated estimate and something that showed ripping out of all the tile and unnecessary holes in my walls because they dont know how to pull off baseboards i would have said no. read more

Elderly Abuse .... Run I woke up to a leak in my front yard as I headed out of town. My wife called Roto Rooter as she left for work to come give us a quote. They said they only needed someone there to greet them when they arrived. So we had my 85 year old, legally blind, suffering from dementia mother, who lives next door, meet them outside so they could begin with their estimate. They never called us for a quote. Instead he replaced one section of pipe (which was only 4 ft. long), and a shut off valve (which he said was broken but was not) and charged a whopping $6,500. He walked next door and demanded payment from my blind mother. NO APPROVAL WAS GIVEN!!!! NO PHONE CALL WAS MADE!!! My mother, who isn't mentally with us anymore, gave them her credit card and boom...... $6,500. We didn't get a new water heater or a new sprinkler system. We got one 4 ft. section of pipe for $6,500 and a shiny new on/off valve which was not needed. That guy new what he was doing. He didn't call us for a reason. He took one look at my blind old mom with dementia and charged whatever he wanted. He left us an arbitrary bill I could hardly read with little to no specifics. I have attached.... When I called the manager he did return half of the amount. It sounded like we were making progress. I still asked for an itemized receipt so I could see how 4 ft. of pipe and a valve would cost $3,250. If I stayed in town this repair would have cost me a total of $75 dollars in materials. He said he would get that itemized receipt and then has ghosted me ever since. I have reached out on numerous occasions. This company did not have permission to do $6,500 or $3,250 worth of work on my property. They were called for an estimate and took advantage of my elderly, blind, dementia plagued mother to run up a huge bill that no one can explain. They demanded that my mother, who isn't the homeowner, pay $6,500. My wife waited by her phone all day for an estimate that never came. This is morally and ethically appalling at every level. First, I'll mention while the repair tech that initially fixed my leak did so in a very timely manner, the reason for my initial "5 Star" review was created solely to receive $200 discount off their repair fee. As for the rest of my experience with Roto-Rooter, by far the worst service imaginable. From unprofessional scare tactics, to seemingly deliberate hiding of cost, to dysfunction between teams, to mishandling of filing claim, and overall disaster of customer service which led to immediate claim denial and mob-like behavior in collecting payment for their incredibly overpriced services. The initial tech that arrived was only here to explain their services and plan of action. Expressing the time sensitive nature when filing a claim for leaks in order for any insurance to accept the claim. That if I shop around I may not be able use my homeowners insurance to cover the damages because the can no longer can be determined as cause by "initial onset." The 2nd tech arrived to identify the source of the leak and repair. It was quite obvious where the source of the leak was in the garage, however, was using this time to upsell me for a full house inspection... I declined the full house inspection because again it was obvious where the leak was coming from. This service I had to pay out of pocket. $950 turned to $750 because I agreed to give them a 5 star review. Now with the leak stopped and an unsightly hole in the ceiling of my garage, I continue to talk with the initial tech to follow Roto-Rooter's plan of action to "properly" file a claim to my insurance. Roto-Rooter, as a part of their services, plans to file the claim on my behalf which must include their Mitigation Team to immediately start the drying of the area affected by the leak. Prior to agreeing to next steps, I asked in the event of denial the cost owed by me to which he Would not share because "he doesn't do the Mitigation." But he knows "Mitigation is necessary and must be done immediately in order to get the claim accepted." Their repair bill was timed and the clock is ticking... the mitigation team of 2 techs that showed up also unable to share an estimate for tearing significantly more wall than was initially made to repair the single 12" pipe and set up fans making our garage inaccessible for a week. After being instructed what next steps to expect and items to share to my insurance adjuster I was assured that Roto-Rooters experience handling claims would be an easy, guaranteed process to receive accepted claim and coverage of costs ALSO needed to repair the sizable hole left by the mitigation team. Well, between the lack of experience of Roto-Rooter techs and disconnect between teams ultimately resulted in a speedy and certain denial for the claim in which no costs will be reimbursed or offered to cover for any service related to the pipe leak. Being confused to the outcome and looking for some clarification, I was immediately only met with a sizable bill and a relentless Collections Team. I was told that the Manager over the teams that "helped" me would reach out... not one message. When I followed up to ask to speak with this manager for clarification and share the fisad of services I experience, still no message and only pressing for payment. I can without a doubt say I will never use Roto-Rooter for any services again and I would strongly encourage others to look elsewhere. BUYER BEWARE! read more

Our reimbursement from the insurance for the work has now drawn out for months. Next steps will be to contact FTC and CFPB to file complaints regarding Rotorooter lying to consumers. Friday afternoon: dispatch calls to say plumber would be there in 30 minutes. 1.5 hours later I call to ask what is going on, for the love. 2:00 plumber comes. Had a vehicle problem and didn't bother to tell anyone. Fixes problem. Company honors guarantee. Says camera crew will come this evening, fee waived for camera project. Dispatch would contact me soon. Friday night: --called at 3:30 and told someone would call me back. --5:40 called again and told "I don't know anything about this." I asked if the camera expert would arrive at 10:00? Midnight? 2:00 am? They said to wait and a bribe would call me. --6:40: camera person called and said she had also been waiting since 2:00 for dispatch to call her and tell her where to send the person. She would send someone between 8:00-5:00 on Saturday. She apologized on the behalf of the people who answer the phone, as well as dispatch. They are separate phone answering departments. Saturday, 1:00 pm, Day 7: It's 1:00 pm on Saturday and we're still waiting. Your team is only as strong as it's weakest member. Every member of this team seems to have issues. The poor plumbers are the ones caught in the middle, and the most competent. The people answering the phones (call center and dispatch): -- are truly confused --I was able to hear dinner table conversations in the background --put me on hold for ten minutes at a time, when I called over 8 times over a one week period (80 minutes of waiting) --entered the schedule and were off by 12 hours because she put 8:00 PM instead of AM --would say they'd call back but never would. I really regret calling Roto-Rooter. I own a duplex in Austin. My tenants unexpectedly had their gas shut off by Texas Gas, and when they finally came to turn it back on, they did not start the water heater. We tried multiple times to start the heater ourselves, knowing it should be a simple fix, but just couldn't seem to get it started. I was worried about the tenants as they hadn't had hot water for days at that point and it was set to freeze that night. I decided to just go ahead and call someone to come out and help, as I thought there may need to be a part replacement. Roto rooter came out the same day within a matter of hours, which is commendable. They charge a $75 service fee which can be applied toward the cost of work if work is done. The technician was very friendly and kind. I explained to him the issue and that I thought it was a problem with the igniter. He told me if he could get the water heater to start, it would be $300. I honestly thought he meant that would be the price to replace the piece I thought needed to be fixed. He then proceeded to start the water heater simply following the same steps I had been doing. I was surprised and relieved that it worked without repair. He then told me that that alone would be the $300 that we discussed. I was shocked. A decent service would've charged the service fee (seeing as no work was done) and that would be more than reasonable. Roto rooters service charges are extremely expensive, and I felt taken advantage of because I didn't fully understand what I was getting myself into when I agreed to let the technician try to start the heater. I am writing this review to warn others on the deceptive and highly illegal practices that Roto Rooter is engaging in. I own a preschool and needed repairs to our septic tank pumps. We called Roto Rooter to fix it. The rep did NOT fill out the costs/pricing on the invoice when he asked my husband to sign it. He told my husband that he had to sign in order for them to do the work and would add in what it cost later. The rep told my husband that it would add up to about $8,000 and he told the same thing to my Director. He didn't even write our business name correctly on the invoice. We needed the repair done quickly because we had several bathrooms not working. Did they fix the problem overnight? Yes. Did they do a good job? No...they used an EXTENSION CORD to power the pumps (and other details I won't go into) which kept tripping the breaker because of the water involved in such a repair. They didn't even try to fix the wiring. How much did they charge? $12,300 for 10 hours of work. They replaced two pumps, which cost about $2,000, so the rest was labor. We were forced to hire a septic company to replace all of their work to the tune of $9,000 because it was so substandard. I complained to their billing department and management and they only took 20% off of the bill even after learning all of this. They asked for the estimate and paid invoice of the other septic company that had to fix everything they did, but I don't know if they even called to find out how poorly their plumbers did on our job. I have worked with a lot of service providers over 16 years of business ownership. I have bought and rehabbed three business properties and I have never had the predatory experience that Roto Rooter gave us. I can't stand businesses who operate this way and so badly take advantage of their unsuspecting customers. I am telling you all this in the hopes that this doesn't happen to someone else. I called them today to resolve a clogged toilet. The friendly dispatcher sent Phillip in about an hour and he did a great job resolving the clog which was caused by a non-obvious issue. While not inexpensive, I felt the money was well-spent considering that it was a Sunday and he did find the source of the clog and solved the issue. Overall, I appreciated the professionalism of the company, the dispatcher, and Phillip that lead to a good experience ! read more

We had a big leak and plumbing issue that 2 other services couldn't fix. Roto rooter came in the middle of the night to help us with some flooding and quickly fixed the issue. Price was reasonable. read more

These guys are scam masters in a way, guy charged me US $300 to check water pressure.....! and then wrongly suggested that even cut off valve need to be replaced.....totally insane!!. I know the guys hardly looked at cut off valve and declared it non-functional. The main part of story begins now.....TO FIX BOTH CUT OFF VALVE AND PRV VALVE CHARGES ARE ---US $ 2,000.00!!!! Is there any consumer forum where I can complain so that won't do it to someone else! read more

I tried so hard to do their jobs for them and they still could not complete simple tasks. All I needed was a backflow test, I called a week in advance and was sent an email with a 4 hour window. Nobody showed or called. I called and they said "oh yeah we intended to call you but we can come tomorrow". I have work tomorrow, who can stay home this often? I called again and they switched up the story quickly. First person sends me to local person who sends me to a manager, manager tells me he'll send someone out asap and hangs up. I call back an hour later and they say he left and nobody is coming. Someone will come tomorrow they say... I have work. Okay. I asked them multiple times to take my money and do the job. I asked for solutions to my myriad of issues. They blamed the call center in chicago and put me on hold repeatedly. This business is a ridiculous embarrassment to the city of round rock and you will not take advantage of the people here anymore. Treat your fellow humans better, or see your business die. If I could give no starts I would. Horrible experience with this company. If an on site tech calls with information that needs to get done, do not believe them if they say they will do it, because they will NOT. Make sure everything is in writing or they will screw you. Because of this company, we have had to hire another company to do Roto-Rooters job that they did not complete. They also demanded a payment when the job was not complete, and when I talked to them about this I got the "oh I have passed it along to our supervisors" bs. Never got a response, just another demand of payment. I do NOT believe it should coast over $2000 to place fans. 100% do not recommend this company at all. If you do, GOOD LUCK! read more

Used to really like roto rooter. Have used them at at least 9-10 commercial properties because they were very professional and always provided a quality service. Lately just scheduling the service has become very difficult. I was put on hold and the call was dropped and i had to call back so many times because i never received a call back after i first scheduled service. Once the plumber or tech is dispatched the service is great its just getting to that point thats a nightmare. read more
