My husband and I typically used to order from Round the Clock West at least once a week - we're empty nesters. Their food was terrific for many years. Recently, the quality has diminished. The fries are cold and soggy, even after asking to have them prepared crunchy. The bacon is greasy and soggy, too. The over easy eggs were hard cooked. The steak is fatty and tough. The one thing we also really liked were the salads. Lately, they almost taste rancid. Such a shame. The pot pie is still good, though. read more

This cute 50's themed diner in York hits all the right marks. Atmosphere, Food, Service, all top of the list. Lots of parking, easy to get in and out of the lot. The coffee is perfect diner flavor, not too weak or strong. The grilled cheese was all I hoped for, and was VERY pleased when they offered rye bread as a choice. It's the simple things, right? The fries are nice and thick, and golden. Everything came out piping hot. Our waitress was quite friendly, but not in the annoying way. Love this diner!!! We happened to be driving past it when we stopped for lunch. The service was excellent - friendly, helpful, attentive. The food was no highway-diner-grub, it was delicious and fresh. The fried mushroom appetizer was generous, the mushrooms were crisp and piping hot, without being greasy (no oily residue on the plate). They served them with marinara sauce for dipping. Their marinara was fresh and delicious. If I weren't traveling I would have asked to take a quart of it home. The Reuben Sandwich was mouth-wateringly good. The corned beef was tender and shredded so no pulling necessary. The rye bread was lightly buttered and toasted, and thin and soft, yet crisp. Sublime!! It's always a good classic diner food here. I have been coming here for years and never disappointed. I am not giving this a four or five star because it's awesome. It's a diner and has to stand out spectacularly. That said, great location off the interstate and Route 30, good food, good prices, and friendly staff. You can't go wrong here. They do have a second location that I like better because it is more modern and clean. If you are that particular, I encourage you to drive five minutes down Route 30 to the east location because you will get the same quality food and service. read more

Stopped in for breakfast on a cold morning, after a brisk motorcycle ride. Thank you Giovanna for bringing us hot coffee right away. Although there's lots to choose from the menu, the omelette choices seemed to interest us the most. My mushroom and cheddar cheese omelette was so big that if hung off the plate on both ends, and so good that I ate the whole thing. I also loved the apple butter for my whole wheat toast. Initially, I was concerned because it only had a 3 star rating. But now, despite the fact that I'm dead-tired, I'm writing a review because our experience could not have been better. So I recently had to travel to York for a couple of nights. The first morning I ate breakfast at the hotel which was unfortunate, oh it was the Four Points by Sheraton. So the following day I went to the diner on the corner. Anyway I ordered the meat lovers omelette with wheat toast and coffee. So let's begin with the coffee. I guess the kindest I can be is it was warm but then again so is urine right. The omelette and hash browns were a perfect study in bland. I am sure the individuals in the kitchen worked hard at their chosen trade to achieve such a fine example of bland. Feeling desperate I ordered a side of the sausage gravy to help hide the bland. I was looking forward to a fine sausage gravy with a nice peppery after note. However, the members of the culinary profession in the kitchen had outdone there previous example of bland and succeeded in creating a warm paste that had even less flavor than the omelette. For anyone thinking of eating at this fine example of garbage, actually that's wrong as I'm sure garbage has more flavor, my only suggestion is don't. read more

My daddy is a total diner nut, so when he visited me recently, we explored many a diner in the central PA area. The Round the Clock Diner looks appealing enough from the outside, with lot of bright windows and that especially alluring word 'coffee shop' on it's sign. It was about 7 at night and completely packed on a Friday night, which seems strange for a diner. There was a wait but it wasn't long and we were pretty set on pancakes for dinner that night. There just aren't enough good places that have breakfast all day. Perhaps it was the time we went, but it was a bit on the crowded side. We were sat at a table that was less than a foot away from another table where some large men spilling out of their seats leered at me. While this in no way the restaurant's fault, it did dampen the entire ambiance of our meal. The dining room was large and full of tables, with booths lining the windows. Everything felt a bit dated, and not in a good way. Old, scuffed floors, sticky tables and peeling seats don't give the kind of old charm I'm particularly looking for in a diner. I'd honestly like to see this place in the morning or a less over-crowded time as it could look and feel different without a hundred greasy people stuffed in the building. The pancakes were alright, though that and the desert were probably the only vegetarian faire on the menu. I honestly can't complain about the food itself which would be the only reason I'd return. The most disappointing factor was the coffee. My cup came out lukewarm and foul tasting. Perhaps we were the only one that had ordered coffee past lunch. It could be just me, but I think that a place that uses the words 'Coffee Shop' in it's official sign should probably have a pretty decent cup of coffee to match that boast. Our waitress never came by to ask us about refills so I never got the chance to ask about a fresh pot. To be fair though, this was the only time I had visited the Round the Clock Diner. Took a chance at eating at this place today. My fiancé, dad and I went here around 6:00pm on a Saturday evening. It looked pretty busy on the outside but hardly had any customers inside! We got sat right away and had a really nice waitress take our drink orders. She came back and took our orders and was super patient while we we're contemplating over our entree and sides. Anyway, none of us had any complaints on what we ordered. I had crab stuffed haddock and usually diner seafood isn't all that good, but this was the best diner seafood I've ever had. read more

Very quick and fast service and the food was good. BUTTTTT... The covid precautions presented was my main concern. Walking in, the tables were spaced out and there were plastic partitions between the booths. I thought the whole diner was like this but I was wrong. They sat us alllll the way in the back where people were crammed back to back with no safe features performed. They needed to reduce half the tables in the back to accommodate any kind of social distancing. Please be careful on where to be seated. read more

Went to a Yankees game at Camden Yards and stopped and ate here. I also ate here on Thanksgiving Day. I got the feeling I was at a midwest restaurant. Service was friendly, patrons resembled the beef and potatoes type, portions were generous and scrapple was a popular item on the menu (and I'm not referring to Scrabble the board game). When I ordered hot tea I didn't get a ceramic dixie cup and have to look all over for the waitress for a refill. I was given my own small little tea pot that had approximately three cups worth of hot water in it. I was given extra tea bags as well. That's how you serve a drink. On Thanksgiving Day I was surprised how packed it was for late breakfast. Normally people fast all day and eat an early dinner and gorge. People here were devouring large breakfasts like it was any other day, even knowing they had their biggest meal of the year waiting for them just hours away. I know Quaker Staters hate being called midwesterners, but let's face it, you aren't exactly on the East Coast and in this case it's a compliment. This restaurant just reeked of midwest. Large people eating large cholesterol filled meals where both staff and patrons were jovial. I won't even explain what scrapple is, but it's not served on the East Coast or out here in the West. If it were we'd give it to our dogs before ingesting it ourselves. This diner is as good as any I've been to in NY. Although I didn't have the deserts and I've only been here twice, I give it the benefit of the doubt of 5 stars. I enjoyed my two breakfasts there and was impressed with the service despite the large crowd. I don't know if I will ever have a reason to visit York, PA again, but if I do I will be sure to go back to Round the Clock. read more

Service was just okay. That was probably the only good thing I have to say. A friend and I stopped by after a long day for a late night snack. The place was lousy with noisy high school kids. I get it, it's one of the few places in town where they can hang out late at night. But the least an establishment can do is sit this kids in a back corner so they don't disrupt the whole restaurant. I got a side salad and coconut cream pie. My friend ordered an appetizer and a piece of pie. I'm not sure how our bill came to $20. Way overpriced. I'd have overlooked the noisy kids if it was at least cheap. We spent a week travelling around and trying various diners. Round the Clock was my only regret. read more

Almost every Sunday you can find my son and I here using the free Wi-Fi....food is good, fast and hot with large servings....although, sometimes a little pricy. I wish there was the option to give ZERO stars. This was by far the worst experience I've ever had at a diner. The place was disgusting. Do yourself a favor and keep on driving to the next diner. All I ordered was the "soup" of the day which was Cream of Crab- more like cement. It wasn't soup, but more like cement or mortar, the soup DIDN'T MOVE. Absolutely disgusting. I sent it back to get the vegetable soup instead ( but was still charged for the crab soup that I didn't eat) I also got a house salad which was basically WET lettuce, red onion, 2 cherry tomatoes and 1 cucumber. Round the Clock is The Place To Be if you're young and hungry and feeling masochistic enough to interact with much of your high school graduating class. Because everyone goes here. The food is okay diner fare, except for the unusual (read: disgusting) things under the aptly named "Etc. Etc." section. The bottom line is that the prices at this place are getting ridick. Like, these are comparable with a New York diner, it's that bad. And that's why no one goes to diners in New York! Round the Clock mercifully allows you to split the bill after midnight now, which they didn't do for years. And for a while it used to be the only place open after midnight, but now there's Nick's where the popular Denny's previously resided. So just go there because it's way cheaper and the food is the same, if not better. read more

We stayed at the Motel 6 next door to Round the Clock and I can honestly tell you that each time we came and went from the motel, this diner's parking lot was PACKED. Hubs and I stayed in York after going to Sight and Sound. Opted to have breakfast at the Diner. It was delicious! Linda was an excellent waitress! Very attention and polite. Food was delivered quickly and delicious! Hubs was happy they had scrapple on the menu. He got the veggie omelet and said it was very good. Round the Clock has been an institution in York for as long as I can remember. It has been the stopping point for food after a night of clubbing in Baltimore on the way back to Harrisburg, as well as a place to sit and study into the wee hours during finals week at any of the colleges in York. As someone who has been spoiled by local diners with better food, prices, and service I don't find the convenient location enough to bring me back. I ordered a spinach omelette, and while it was a nice-sized portion I don't think it was worth the amount I was charged; my omelette and a soda together came to just shy of $10 before tip. The serving staff was a bit cold. It was not a particularly busy time of day, but it was nearly impossible to get our drinks refilled or have the dishes removed from the table. I've known this to happen in my teenage years when hanging out in some diners late at night, but never in the daytime and definitely not in my thirties. This is not the same diner I remember going to. In the future, I will stick with diners closer to home. read more
