I chose this shop based on recommendations and strong reviews, expecting Land Rover expertise. Vehicle: 2022 Land Rover Defender 110 P300, ~45,000 miles. I initially decided to replace the front control arms and called the shop for pricing. I supplied my own parts, but expected professional judgment from a shop that works on Land Rovers. After the work was completed: * The technician showed me on another vehicle how OEM hydraulic control arms are supposed to feel and explained they are designed to be soft and typically last 120k-140k miles. * He also stated that my original arms were in good condition and did not require replacement. * Despite this, the work was carried out in full, and no one contacted me during the process to advise against replacing functional OEM parts or to suggest a better solution. * As a result, perfectly functional original components were removed and replaced with aftermarket parts, making the ride noticeably harsher, while the original vibration issue remained unresolved. Additionally, during the repair, the CV boot was damaged. I was only informed after the job was completed and told it had been "temporarily sealed." The next day it began leaking. When I followed up, I was told it would cost around $700 to replace the part that was damaged during their own repair. The shop has not responded to my written requests to resolve the issue. End result: * unnecessary replacement of functional OEM components; * reduced ride comfort; * damage to another critical part; * request for additional payment to fix their own mistake. Very disappointing experience. I expected professional guidance and accountability. I would not recommend this shop for Land Rover service. read more

Brought my Range Rover in for a wheel alignment. They could not get it to spec, and I left with a steering wheel that sat noticeably crooked to the right. When I called to address it, the technician immediately blamed my aftermarket lower control arms and told me there was "no more adjustment left" -- end of conversation. What bothered me just as much as the incomplete work was the attitude. At the shop, he asked why I went aftermarket. Before I could even finish explaining that I'd researched the part, consulted Land Rover enthusiasts, and made a deliberate, informed decision -- he cut me off and dismissed my choice outright. You can disagree with a customer's decision. That's fine. There's just a respectful way to do it, and this wasn't it. I lived with a crooked steering wheel for a few months. I also noticed my traction control was triggering early on sharp turns -- likely because the off-center wheel was feeding the system bad input about steering angle. Finally took it to another shop (aftermarket wheel shop, not even a Rover shop). They aligned it to spec for 40% less. Steering wheel is perfectly straight. Not a single word about the control arms being a problem. Save yourself the frustration. read more

Well, I wasn't going to update my review, but here I am. I wanted to give them a chance but the new ownership is disappointing. I brought her in for a suspension error which they seemed to have fixed appropriately by replacing the pump (just over a thousand dollars). When finished and back to pick her up, they pointed out how there is a new open hood warning error and how my rear wheel is out of balance (beyond wheel weight balancing because it had a flat spot after sitting for months). He asked if I would like them to switch it with the spare. Why not? Sat down and 2 minutes later they were finished. Went to settle the bill and he wanted an additional $50 for the wheel swap that supposedly took them 15 minutes. This is something the prior owners would have done without charge, so yes I was spoiled, which is part of why I went to them for over a decade. Looked inside my vehicle when I got home and they had just thrown the wheel in the back on top of where it should have been. Okay, fine. Not happy but I can live with that I guess. Only cost a pair of dirty pants to put it where it belongs. Now, nearly a year later, I am having to use a sledge to remove the lugs they overtightened with their impact wrench instead of using a torque wrench like a good rover mechanic would. I managed to get 4 off but am still wrestling with the last one. Thank goodness I am in my garage instead of stranded on the side of the road without a sledge and a can of WD40. Will I get it off? Time will tell, but every swing with the sledge is peppered with ire. read more

They are very fairly priced (might even be losing money by offering free checks!), but very honest, and fair with their pricing and service. They also use genuine Land Rover Parts. I went to the dealership for years, and my last straw with the dealership was when my keys fell below the seat and they charged me $350 just to get my keys out and suggested i carry a long lanyard as the solution to that not happening again. Purchased a 2015 LR4 from a dealer in Houston Texas - had it shipped to California. Washed it and detailed it and it came out better than expected. I then took it over to rover doctor based on a friends recommendation. Faya helped me and walked me through a full inspection including a computer diagnosis. I had them change the oil, differential oil and air filters. They were very fair and spent a lot of time inspecting the car. Very happy with their work and professionalism. I went in with a wheel wobble problem during breaking that was diagnosed by the dealer and a suggestion was given to replace the rotors & pads. I reached out to rover doctor for a second opinion and I was told that rotors need not be replaced and just the pads would do. Unfortunately this did not solve the problem and I had to replace the rotors & pads again within two days as the new pads were already out of shape because of the bad rotor. Basically I ended up spending $$$$ at rover doctor which didn't solve the problem. read more

Amazing fast and honest service. Went to dealer for two specific items and they did a full eval with a 14K quote that included 2-3 issues that seemed serious- oil leak and something else. Seemed odd as no oil on my driveway so Rover doctor saw me within two days and confirmed no oil leak but explained why they might think there was (overdue on my oil change and some viscosity changes). Also checked the other items on the list and after a fix it of 2 hours and only $1000 including changing a secondary battery - was so impressed and pleased. Dealer made it sound like my car was on last legs (2015) and rover doctor appreciated my car and guided me to regular care that can make it last for years. So so pleased- try them out. I learned from the owner that I didn't need to be there to drop off the vehicle if plan to use AAA's towing service, which was a huge time-saver for me! After having the car dropped off in the late afternoon, I received confirmation from the business that the car was in their possession, and they'd get back to me with a diagnosis ASAP. Diagnosis and progress updates were provided the next day throughout the day until the repair was completed. When I showed up to pick up and car, the owner walked me through the process again on what they did to the car, showed me the parts they replaced. While they did additional work to get all the necessary repairs done, they didn't use this opportunity to increase my bill; I'm sure many places would have. My car (4th Gen Range Rover Full Size) is a had a complication that I didn't feel comfortable taking to the dealer service department (may not get back for months with their current backlog). Talked with Steve the new owner of the shop and he felt comfortable tackling the job. Without going into great detail on the issue, I can say that things got rough with the dealer and Steve went to bat for me. I had taken my Range Rover to the Newport Beach dealership first. I've been going there for years. However, the last service appointment quoted extremely high repair costs for both the front suspension and front brakes (both flagged as immediate needs). I found a second opinion at Rover Doctor and not only were they more cost effective, they showed me pictures of the suspension and indicated I had another 10-12k of miles before it was going to cause any issues. They ended up saving me money on the front brake work, properly advised me that I didn't need to spend money on the suspension for a significant amount of time, and gave me the type of disclosure and transparency that has made me a new recurring customer. I am a big fan of The Rover Doctor. Even routine maintenance on any modern/current Land Rover product is incomprehensibly expensive. Finding a DIY manual is nearly impossible. With a limit on affordable options I sought out a local expert shop. (Also, I would highly recommend that you not take a Jaguar-Land Rover product to a 'general' mechanic. They have some unique systems and even small mistakes can have costly consequences.). I came upon The Rover Doctor based on a word-of-mouth recommendation. They have been my go to mechanic for a 2016 LR4 LUX since warranty expired. Everything that has come up has been relatively straight forward and my experience there has been pleasant. It's a small shop and you get a personal touch. They habitually wash my LR4 after service. Answers are straight and they were even willing to let me come into the shop and show me some of the design features and strengths/weaknesses inherit the LR4 platform. I have been back several times, usually for oil, filter, and fluid changes but they are always cheaper than a dealership. You really can't go wrong here, in my experience. UPDATE: I learned frighteningly enough that the cooling system in the 2014+ LR4 is a fickle system and has no tolerance for faults. I'll spare you with any details but the notable factor is this: I arrived at the Rover Doctor to be told something I've never heard a mechanic say. "I've never seen this problem before. I'd like to send you to another mechanic with some expertise that may be better suited." They then called the other specialist and explained what they were seeing. I went to them and moved on from there. What the point of this update? I'll tell you - integrity. 100% integrity. The Rover Doc could've just tried a few things, made a few hundred bucks, and let me sort it out through a frustrating process of elimination. They didn't do that. They bravely sent me to their potential competition. If that's not testament to their ethics and character I just don't know what is. The end result? They just assured that I'm a customer for life. Anybody can tinker under my hood, but only the Rover Doctor do I TRUST to tinker under my hood. read more
