Sorry to write this low rating review, but wanted to share our unfortunate experience. My father made an appointment for an oil change for me for today with the owner Shohrat a few days ago. He quoted a price of $158. I went in today. The owner wasn't there but whoever there were said it is $260 and could not honor their owner's quote. We had to turn back. I live in Palm Springs area and come to my parents in Irvine, so it is rather convenient to come to this place for service. Besides the 5 star rating attracted me. But this place disappointed me and wasted my time dearly. In addition, I wasn't impressed by the business handling by the people who were there today. Clean and quiet waiting room with transparent Office and Service Bay and coffee machine and water cooler and a refrigerator and free Perrier cans. $225 for Synthetic oil and filter change and full inspection. I had a breakdown of a 2011 RR Sport and took it to Matt for repair. He performed a quick diagnostic test (with me present) and explained the issue, estimated costs to fix and alternative options to help the budget. He kept me appraised of developments every day and again provides alternative options for help reduce costs. Matt provides friendly & professional service and doesn't try to sell you additional items or dealer recommended services if you car does not need it. I had taken my Range Rover to the Newport Beach dealership first. I've been going there for years. However, the last service appointment quoted extremely high repair costs for both the front suspension and front brakes (both flagged as immediate needs). I found a second opinion at Rover Doctor and not only were they more cost effective, they showed me pictures of the suspension and indicated I had another 10-12k of miles before it was going to cause any issues. They ended up saving me money on the front brake work, properly advised me that I didn't need to spend money on the suspension for a significant amount of time, and gave me the type of disclosure and transparency that has made me a new recurring customer. Alan was great and made me feel appreciated as a person and a customer. Would highly recommend giving Rover Doctor a chance if you are looking for an alternative to the dealership service centers. read more

Alan and his team are great! I brought in my 2012 LR4 and 1992 RRC to him. My LR4 had the emergency red triangle light lit and he diagnosed and repaired my issue within a 1.5 days after calling in and dropping off on the issue. For my RRC, I just needed a simple tuneup and fluid changes and they got it done within a day too. Very happy with the service and I know where I'll bring my Rovers moving forward. read more

I bought my first Land Rover Discovery back in 1997 and had it dealer serviced until the warranty ran out then I found out servicing at the dealership was going to be expensive - I was looking for an alternative that did factory service at a honest price. Lucky for me I lived near the Irvine Auto Center where the Rover Doctor is located - I still remember the first job they did for me replacing the heat shield on the muffler that rattled while driving my discovery - I think the dealer wanted a few hundred to change the part and I think it cost me less then 80 dollars. I never went back to the dealer since. I have been very happy with all the repairs they did on that Discovery and since I have also owned a 1995 Defender and a 1988 Range Rover. They do honest work that keeps my rover running and me confident that the work is done right the first time. Matt and Brad help show you exactly what the problem is and fix that - they don't spend hours selling parts that you don't need - I think I was lucky to find their shop over 13 years ago as if I had not I probably would not have continued to buy Land Rovers. read more

I came back to Rover Doctor two more times, and they still have it! After having such a great experience the first time, I came back to Rover Doctor for an oil change and an illuminated check engine light. I was able to receive a quote of the costs upfront and drop my car off for its check up. They were even kind enough to drop me off at work 10 minutes away from the shop. (Thank you again!) Within two hours, I got a call back that my car was completed and a quote on the issue that caused the check engine light to appear and whether or not I wanted to fix it at that time -- If you're unaware, this is remarkable customer support because there are a lot of places who will "fix" unexplained issues without your consent then charge you a lot more than what you were expecting when you pick up your car. I recently came back to Rover Doctor again due to my car's engine stopping randomly. They were able to let me drop off my car off that day and have it ready to be picked up by the next day even though I dropped it off in an emergency with their already packed schedule. The service and support was phenomenal once again and the prices were very reasonable (especially for a Land Rover) and met my expectations. I'll continue to come to Rover Doctor whenever my Evoque tells me to, although I hope she waits a little longer this next time. read more

I noticed that breaks started to squeak after they changed the breaks and pads so I went back and they replaced the pads for me immediately. Any Land Rover owner will know that Land Rover requires a whole lot more TLC than many other brand of vehicles. They will also know that the dealership charges are mind boggling ($1,200 for brakes?). I've taken 2 generations of Land Rovers to Rover Doctor, they are cared for very well here, charge reasonable prices and do quality work. Ricardo, shop owner, was a Land Rover master technician for quite a long time and this is his independent shop. I currently own a Defender 90 station wagon, a Defender 90 soft top, a Defender 110, an LR3 a Range Rover and a Range Rover Sport....a total of six (6) Land Rover vehicles! I have owned Land Rover products since 1994 (20 years) and have had service performed at many Orange County and Los Angeles dealers and independent Rover Service shops. I continue to bring my Land Rovers to Rover Doctors! I have always had positive experiences with Rover Doctor, and especially with Matt Larsen! Matt and Jordan have always been extremely professional and helpful! They have dropped everything to help me when I (or my family) have had an emergency! Matt has always worked hard to keep service cost reasonable and he has always stood behind his work. I have recommend Rover Doctors to all the Rover friends! He has never let them down and I have never heard one complaint from any of my Rover friends regarding Matt or Rover Doctors! I always hear positive comments about Matt and Rover Doctors! That is why they all continue to take their Rover to him for service. Few people can say they have owned the number of Land Rover that I have... Few people can say they have owned Land Rovers as long as I have...As a true "Land Rover Nut"...With this experience, I believe I can say I know good Land Rover Service... It is truly unfortunate that this person would make these comments... I contacted Matt to ask him about this review because I could not believe someone would receive poor service from Rover Doctors...Matt explained that the customer was upset that Rover Doctors was not open on a Saturday and that she insisted that the shop was open on Saturdays.... Rover Doctors is closed on Saturday. They always have been closed on Saturday and Sunday. Rover Doctor's website clearly states: "Saturday: Closed, Sunday: Closed," but that "Appointments may be scheduled for Saturday under special circumstances." The words "may" and "special circumstances" are conditional and Saturday service is not promised nor is it guaranteed. I am beyond happy with the amazing work & service I received from the Rover Doctor!!! :) I have had multiple problems with my 2003 RR HSE but in July of this year was when we hit rock bottom. Long story short, I was told by a general mechanic that the engine in my car would have to be replaced. I looked into it and it would have cost about $7,500 to replace. I ACTUALLY was considering purchasing an engine online and taking my truck in just to have it installed. Found this WONDERFUL repair shop called Rover Doctor, called them and got an estimate to install an engine in my car. The charming Jordan advised me not to make any purchases yet and to just take my truck in so he can take a look at it and diagnose it himself. Thank goodness I did! Jordan diagnosed my truck on a Tuesday afternoon, worked on my truck and called me by Friday that it was ready for pick up! :) engine did NOT need to be replaced and it only cost me $1,500! that's $6k in estimated SAVINGS!!! $$$ I am beyond happy with Jordan's work and definitely Brad's excellent customer service. He even sourced an engine for me at a lower price that I found just in case the engine did need to be replaced! I recommend this repair shop to anyone and EVERYONE that owns a Land Rover!!! I brought my new RR Sport in for its first brake change and they did an excellent job and gave me a geat deal. I watched Matt work on my car and Jordan work on other cars in the shop and you can tell they work with integrity and don't take shortcuts or skip out on things to save a minute or a dollar. Their work is super clean and detailed. He showed me how much meat I had left on my brake pads and rotors and didn't try to push for unnecessary replacements. I ended up getting an oil change as it was due and they rotated my tires too. The Rover Doctor has definitely won over my business and I would recommend them to anyone. I've been taking my 2001 Range rover HSE to Rover Doctor since I bought it four years ago and wouldn't take it anywhere else. Matt is always cautious to avoid unnecessary work (and, on a 2001 Range Rover, there can be a lot of unnecessary work) and they're scrupulous over the work they do. Over the years they've rebuilt my transmission, fitted a new ABS, nursed the car through it's smog while it was giving false-positive error codes, replaced a failed alternator and so many other things. My mechanical skills are limited to kicking the car and swearing at it when it doesn't work, but Rover Doctor have always made sure I fully understood every aspect of any maintenance or repair and what my options were. The high quality of their work aside, I would strongly recommend them for their integrity. read more

I got my front brake pads changed on my Rover 2011 on a Saturday in 2013, and recently called for another Saturday appt to get my rear brake pads changed, as well. Matt Larsen, the owner, answered the phone, and said that they are not open on Saturdays....EVER! I was baffled because I knew I had brought my Rover in on a Saturday. I continued to tell him that it WAS on a Saturday, and he began to become defensive, and said "I'm the OWNER, and I should know my hours!" He made me feel like I was fabricating things, and began to second guess myself! Perhaps I did not bring my vehicle on a Saturday after all; I apologized to him for my absentmindedness....At the end of the conversation, I knew he was annoyed, and irritated by my continued persistence. When I got home, I checked my invoice and receipt, and noticed that my invoice was dated on a Friday, but my CC receipt was dated on a Saturday! My CC receipt proved that I was at his shop on a Saturday, as I initially thought! What had happened was Jordan, one of the mechanics, was going to be in on that particular Saturday anyway, and said it was ok for me to bring my vehicle in to get serviced. I called Rover Doctor back, and asked to speak to Matt. He got on the phone, and I told him that I did have my vehicle serviced on a Saturday after all, and not on a Friday according to my CC receipt. I was waiting for an apology, but he never gave one! I told him that I was offended by his rudeness over the phone, and as a business owner, he should never belittle anyone- especially a customer! He responded by saying that "he brought his business from bankruptcy and is very busy, and doesn't care if he doesn't get my business!" Matt Larsen, is rude, condescending, and arrogant! The customer service at this place is the worst I have ever encountered. Really not worth the money I would've saved. Called my Rover dealership for an appt, and found out that their prices are comparable to Rover Doctor's prices! read more

YELP steered me to Brad and Matt, they men behind The Rover Doctor. The check engine light on my 2008 RR Sport was on and I just couldn't bear the thought of one my visit to the dealer. I spoke with Brad on the phone, made an appointment and brought the car to them. There is a Hertz car rental in the same parking lot and Brad arranged for a $25 per day rental. The problem was diagnosed in minutes, the price quoted was beyond fair. I felt confident that it was going to be properly and without the hassle and rip off that I would have experienced at Land Rover Newport Beach. My car was completed the same day. In fact, it was done about an hour earlier than promised. There were no repair "surprises". The only surprise was that they washed it! As a woman, I feel that car repair places like to take advantage of me because I don't know much about cars. I appreciated Brad and Matt's honesty. I also like to support small business. I have had several excellent and positive experiences with Rover Doctor, and especially with Matt Larsen, the owner. Prior to my purchase of a Defender 90, and without ever having met Matt, he offered to review all of the vehicles I was considering, and he literally spent hours scrutinizing the photos and the specs I emailed to him at all times of the day or night. His guidance was instrumental in helping me narrow the list to the vehicle I ultimately purchased. Recently, when a brake switch broke on my D90 late one afternoon, which rendered it inoperable, Matt and Jordan waited over two hours past closing for my D90 to arrive by tow. They repaired the problem quickly and efficiently, and in an exercise of good preventative maintenance, they performed several other minor fixes and tweaks gratis while the vehicle was there, saving me from future trips for service, which I really appreciated. I have always understood that the shop is closed on Saturday, which is consistent with all the other shops at the center where Rover Doctor is located, and with the other private garage I use for a German vehicle I own. In fact, Rover Doctor's website clearly states: "Saturday: Closed, Sunday: Closed," but that "Appointments may be scheduled for Saturday under special circumstances." The words "may" and "special circumstances" are conditional and Saturday service is not promised nor is it guaranteed. This is why I feel compelled to take issue with the unfair and unhelpful remarks posted by reviewer, Maria R., on 4/11/14. Reviews like hers do nothing to provide useful information; rather, they only serve to further the reviewer's own agenda, or in this case, to serve as a platform for a tantrum over not getting the instant gratification the woman apparently felt she was entitled to receive. Substantively, Maria's review had nothing to do with the Rover Doctor's quality of work, the competence of its mechanics, or the fairness of its business practices, all of which I feel are excellent and without peer.
