Tenderfoot

If you're looking for a cozy spot, this little cafe is a gem! It's a favorite hangout for locals and regulars, and the cowboy western decor adds a fun touch. Plus, the building used to be a bank, so you get to enjoy your coffee next to an old vault! We were seated right away, and our server was super friendly and attentive. They kept our coffee cups full, which was great! I loved their clever idea of using white mugs for regular coffee and black mugs for decaf--that made it so easy to tell them apart. We decided to share a sweet roll ($4.19), and oh my goodness, it was definitely big enough for two! For my main, I had the tenderfoot breakfast, which comes with two eggs and either toast or a biscuit. I chose the marble rye toast, and wow, it was absolutely delicious. The over-easy eggs were cooked just right, too. Such a delightful meal!

This is such an adorable cafe! You definitely get more of a small town cafe vibe but absolutely love it! The staff was friendly all around. From the hostess to our wonderful waitress!! There is both Cholula (very important) and Tabasco at the tables. The prices are pretty fair. I do think the main dishes are a bit pricey but sides are pretty good! We got 4 pieces of bacon for $3.29 and they weren't those thin cheap pieces.

Ok folks, if you are looking for a quality country breakfast then look no further. The food was very good but the service was epic. Let me explain the reason for the 4 star review. It is generally difficult to destroy an order of biscuits and gravy .... even though I am sure every one of us has had that experience .... so there were a couple of biscuits heavily topped with gravy. They were very good but not the best I have ever had, only Grandma holds that title. So that was 3 star worthy, but the service, epic, absolutely epic! First of all our waitress seemed to really enjoy her job. Now she was either a Hollywood actress that needed to be discovered, or she really seemed to enjoy being there and thus the reason for the 4 stars. The meal was well portioned with a fair price, well worth the short drive.

Look! There are condiments on our eating area! (Barflies)

While on vacation, we search for mom and pop places for breakfast. YELP sent us to Roxanne's. It was a bit of a drive from our hotel (the Argosy), but what a beautiful drive! We sat at the bar and enjoyed the company of the neighborhood retired set. Amy served us the Chuck Wagon---biscuits and gravy, 2 eggs, one hotcake and 4 strips of bacon. We added sides of hash browns and ham. Delicious and the portions fed us both! She kept our coffee cups full of hot regular and decaf, and talked with us about landmarks near our hometown. Roxanne's is definitely on our list of places to go when we go to KC!

We went in for happy hour around 4:30. Immediately seated, greeted and got drinks. Our waitress,…read moreTina, was incredible! She gave recommendations, let us take our time and was all around a sweet girl. We got 4 appetizers for happy hour. Mozzarella sticks, Chicken Quesadilla, Buffalo Wings and Chile Con Queso with Chorizo. Let me tell you, the food was cheap and the portions were HUGE! We filled up on those happy hour apps and even have food leftover for lunch tomorrow. We also got the banana cream cheesecake. It was so rich and sweet. We only had a few bites left and Tina offered to get us a box. Service was wonderful. I never had an empty drink and never had to ask for a refill. Bathrooms were super clean. Only negative about this place was there were a few little gnats flying around! We will definitely be back and asking for Tina as our server!

Our first time we dined with them they were busy but got us seated right away. We decided on two appetizers, the Irish Nachos were amazing. Think loaded potatoes, cheese, bacon, sour cream... literally amazing. The shrimp appetizer was also very good, it was the perfect amount of sweet and spicy. As for our main courses I got a French Dip and my husband ordered the filet mignon. Both cooked perfectly.

We started with the goat cheese fondue appetizer, which was rich, flavorful, and a great way to kick off the meal. I also ordered the Passion Mare cocktail, which was refreshing and paired well with lunch. Service was a little slow when we first arrived, but once things got moving, everything was smooth. The food was good, the atmosphere was pleasant, and the location couldn't have been more convenient since it was just a short walk from our hotel. A solid option if you're staying nearby or looking for a nice lunch spot before an event.

On our evening out, the ambiance won the day. Dining on a terrace, with a view, wins every time. We…read morewere dining late so our service was rushed, but the waiter took time to guide our selections. No staters, other than cocktails. The MAI TAI, ENVY OF ALL & the white SANGRIA were all tasty, but at $18 a piece, they should have been spectacular. Taste/presentation did NOT warrant the price tag. We are always delighted to see a WEDGE SALAD on the menu & it was just what you expect in a wedge, which never disappoints, but croutons were unnecessary. Unusual the house dressing was a peppercorn ranch for an Italian restaurant, which was heavy for the MIXED GREENS salad. The CAESER was a winner for my 16 year old son. My 91 year old mother, enjoy the CHEF SOUP, which was turkey & rice... this is high praise for one who always has soup and typically finds fault. The CHICKEN PICCATA was meh. I know this is a safe dish for people to order, but this version had no zest, choose something else. The CHICKEN CARBONARA was served with the egg yolk in the center so you stir it into the hot pasta to cook it. My son loved this presentation, made it fun and most importantly DELICIOUS. Our BEST dish was the BRAISED BONELESS SHORT RIB! When we return to KCMO, we'll definitely reorder this dish and sample some of the others. For dessert we shared the COCONUT BANANA CRÈME PIE... too bad it had whipped cream and not baked merengue.
