The backstory. Jackson had been in and out of a few homes by the time he came to us. He was an…read moreadult dog, 100 lbs of power with no boundaries, reactive around other dogs, pulled while on a leash...the list goes on. We spoke with Morgan at K9 Off Leash regarding their programs. Morgan took the time I needed to ask questions to determine the right program and the right trainer. My spouse and I decided on the in-person, 8 week dog aggression program with Kyonia Brooks. Kyonia has a breadth of experience ranging from shelters to veterinarian hospitals to animal control and - the point that drove home for me: police canine training. Again, Jackson is a big boy, weighing in at 100 lbs of power with no boundaries so we needed someone experienced that wouldn't be intimidated. At our first meeting with Kyonia we reviewed the program and expectations. We hit it off with Kyonia immediately. We could tell this was dog training and handler training which is what we needed to help set boundaries for Jackson. And from my research prior to calling K9, dog training is really about people training so we were in good hands. After the first session there was already a noticeable difference. Within just a few sessions, we already had a new dog and Jackson was on his way to a new and permanent home (finally!). Jackson was walking on a leash without pulling, he was social with other dogs, he was off leash at the dog park and making fur friends. This was remarkable since he was very reactive to dogs just a few weeks prior. The training was working! Again, Kyonia was teaching us so we were learning how our behavior was feeding into his negative behavior. On command, he knew how to: heel, stay, sit, come, down, down from afar, off and place. At this point, we started taking him to various stores to try him in and around crowds with plenty of distraction. He continued to heel by our side, sit, stay and down on command at one end of the aisle while we would "browse items" at the other end of the aisle without moving. (More like fake browse while side eyeing Jackson to be sure he was following command.) He would look at people as they walked by but stayed in command. Proudly, I must say that at the end of our very first store outing (big box hardware and lumber store), one of the employees came up to me to say that he was the best behaving dog that had ever been in the store. She was astonished this was his first outing. She thought for sure we were training him to be as a service dog. I responded, no just a good dog. ;) Soon after, Jackson was walking off leash. This was not our goal or expectation, even though the name of the company has it in their name. #TotalBonus The goal was two fold: give Jackson boundaries and have him become the dog that matched our lifestyle & teach us how to set the boundaries while instilling him with his own confidence. Goal accomplished! Friends and family all commented on a totally different dog. We get comments from folks all the time at stores, the park, the dog park, campgrounds and hikes on such a well behaved dog with excellent recall. Thank you Kyonia and K9 Off Leash!

Kyonia Brooks from Off Leach K9 Training came to our home and within a few training sessions, our Rescue Dog. "Xena" now became secure, obedient, a great walker and follows all commands. She is loving, good around our friends and family visiting now. She adores her new home and we adore her. Of course, we also needed training, as her parents, which Kyonia did a wonderful job with us as well. We highly recommend Of Leash K9 as one of the best trainers we have ever had for our German Shepards. Thank you, Bev & Phil

When we first met Arturo, I honestly didn't believe anyone could make a real difference with my dog…read morein less than 10 days. Our dog Lucky is a Belgian Malinois and Dutch Shepherd mix. He has a lot of energy and can get very intense. Before training, life with Lucky was somehow stressful. He barked at almost anyone who came close to my mom, especially my dad. Walks were also difficult because he constantly pulled on the leash and would get tangled around my legs. Then we started training with Arturo, and things began to change much faster than I expected. What impressed me the most was that every single day we trained with him, I could see real improvement. It wasn't just small changes either. Lucky began to calm down and focus. Walking him is now completely different. I can comfortably walk and even jog with him, which used to feel impossible. Another big change is how Lucky reacts to other dogs. Before, he would bark back and get into a defensive mode. Now he stays calm and has learned to ignore other dogs. Even at home, the difference has been huge. My dad can now walk in and out of the room without Lucky barking at him, which used to happen all the time. One of my favorite moments now is when we go to the park. Lucky is relaxed, happy, and confident. Sometimes he even sits or rolls onto his back during our walks, which shows just how comfortable he has become. The only challenge we still have is that my mom is still velcro with Lucky. She loves him so much that she still lets him sleep in her room, even though we've been told giving him a little more space would help build his confidence. Overall, I can confidently say Arturo is simply the best! He gave us the tools and confidence to handle our dog the right way. What I also appreciate is that many of the lessons he teaches go beyond dog training. The ideas about consistency, behavior, and leadership apply to people too! Thank you, Arturo, for transforming Lucky and making our lives and our relationship with our dog so much better!

I especially appreciated the time he took during our consultation call to understand our situation and identify the root of our dog's behavioral issues. From day one she was so gentle, patient, and friendly with him. You can tell she genuinely loves what she does and really cares about the dogs she works with. Koda learned so much so quickly in her classes. Abby made everything easy to understand and gave us practical tools we could use at home, which made a huge difference. Watching him grow more confident each week was the best feeling. She also gave wonderful recommendations on PetSmart products and future classes that were actually helpful, not just random suggestions. One of her recommendations led us to enroll Koda in another group class where he met his lifelong puppy friends. That meant so much to us. Abby truly helped shape Koda into the sweet, well behaved pup he is today, and for that I am so grateful. If you are thinking about training classes, ask for Abby. You and your dog will be in the best hands.
