RPM Steak lives up to the hype. The service was attentive and knowledgeable, making the experience feel special. The steaks were outstanding--perfectly cooked, flavorful, and worthy of one of Chicago's premier steakhouses. The sides were equally impressive and large enough to share, with every dish thoughtfully prepared. The "Duke" is such a unique cut that it is worth a try. The atmosphere strikes a balance between upscale and comfortable, making it ideal for a special occasion while still feeling relaxed. The cocktail and wine selections were excellent, and the staff offered knowledgeable recommendations. Be prepared for high-end steakhouse pricing, but if you're willing to splurge, the quality of the food, service, and overall experience makes it worthwhile. If you're looking for a top-tier steakhouse in Chicago, RPM Steak deserves a spot near the top of your list. Looking forward to coming back.
RPM Steak was good! Reservations can easily be made via Open Table, so I reserved a dinner date in advance. However, upon arrival, we still ended up waiting about 20 minutes past our designated time. I attributed this to it being a busy Friday night. We skipped appetizers and went straight for entrees and sides. I ordered the center cut filet + garlic and rosemary butter with sides of Millionaire's potato and spicy broccolini. My steak was amazing! Very well prepared, flavorful, and the perfect "medium" temperature. It was quite honestly one of the best steaks I've ever had. The potato was huge and very savory; I enjoyed it. The broccolini was definitely a bit too spicy for me, but still tasty and perfectly steamed.
We went here for a special date night and to be fair, we were expecting a little better for service. We have been to many other high-end steakhouses, so the service here was not what we had expected at all. Our server did not seem attentive at all, gave only 1 check in, forgot to tell us the specials, and did not walk through the menus at all. We gave benefit of the doubt that perhaps the restaurant was just busy (we had reservations), but it did not seem like that was the case. The table next to us had a different server, and they were way more attentive, and giving recommendations based on what is popular. To us, it felt like the service was not worth the price we paid for at all (~$400). As former food service workers, we wanted to give some grace, but at the same time, it is hard for us to justify the level of service for a restaurant that is supposed to be very nice. However, the food was delicious. The NY Strip was a little tough to cut through, but it tasted great. The fries however, seemed like they were cold, and perhaps a little old since they had a soggy texture to it. Ambiance was beautiful. We had reservations, and we were seated in a half-circle booth. The lighting was good, and no complaints about the noise levels. Would I come here again? Most likely not, but it was an OK experience overall. Maybe we just expected a little more from a nice restaurant, but the service could have been significantly better based on our experience.
Dim lighting, great music, and comfy booths with a view make the vibes 9.5/10. Service was amazing, friendly, funny, and attentive. 9/10 The steak had perfect texture, crispy outside, medium rare inside, a little plain in flavor though. 8/10 King crab mac & cheese was rich and truffle-y with perfect crab texture. 8.5/10 Parmesan risotto was comforting and creamy with generous amount of black truffle but not the most exciting. 7.5/10 Parker house rolls were warm and soft, pretty simple. 6/10 Chocolate cake was rich and humongous, perfect dessert. 9/10 Cocktails were solid. Carajillo Picoso was like a smooth espresso martini, Monte Cassino was sweet and high quality. 8/10. Such a great date night spot with amazing ambiance if you love steak!
Had a great experience! The food was delicious, high quality, and definitely filling. Customer service is very important to me, and John truly stood out with how friendly, attentive, and welcoming he was throughout the entire visit. Especially today on my birthday, he went the extra mile to make me feel special and taken care of. Great food and even better service -- I'll definitely be back!
My last visit to RPM Steak was another winner. It was a bustling Saturday night, which made it great for people watching. Our server and his team were fantastic. They checked on us often and made our evening fun. We enjoyed salads, steaks, tuna, fries and mashed potatoes. Everything tasted delicious. Of course we finished our meal with made to order strawberry cotton candy.
I recently went for my birthday and I had heard nothing but great things about this place. We let them know in advance that we were there celebrating my birthday. We were greeted and sat down to a welcoming menu that read happy birthday. We had a wonderful waiter who greeted us and was very enthusiastic about us being there for a first time. I had mentioned that I had only been there to pick up the wonderful chocolate cake for takeout. He remembered that. We started with the pop over rolls and kale salad as well as I ordered the Zero Proof drink called Waitlist. First the drink: it was very refreshing and lightly sweetened with a nice sparkle. The rolls were crispy with an airy and flaky inside. Came with a wonderful seasoned butter appeared nicely with it, and the textures were all on point. The kill salad was nice and fresh. The dressing on it was a little tangy prepared nicely with the fresh mushrooms, and there was shredded cheese. I was slightly dusted over it. All the textures were great and the crispy onions also were nice. For the main course, we ordered the double Wagyu cheeseburger and the creek stone center cut fillet. The fillet was cooked medium well and it was phenomenal. For someone that doesn't eat steak as often it had a very nice taste and texture as well as we paired it with a truffle sauce. The Wagyu cheeseburger was amazing with a soft pillow bun and amazing garlic sauce, and crispy onions. The meat on the burger was very tasteful and not too thick which I loved. The fries that came with those were seasoned well. Next for the sides, we ordered hen of the mushrooms and the golden plate of the night was the Japanese sweet potatoes. The mushrooms had a nice flair to them and tasted very fresh she had seasoned. The Japanese potatoes were flesh fried and had a crispy texture on the outside had were soft and pull away on the inside, and there was a nice glazed sauce on it. Overall, the textures and sauce combinations worked so well in this dish. This is definitely a sleeper item for anyone to try. Last I was surprised with a happy birthday cotton candy, which was very whimsical and nice for celebrating a birthday and the waiter remembered about my favorite cake and was able to provide the 14k chocolate cake and that was such a wonderful end to an amazing dinner thank you RPM for allowing me to celebrate my birthday in the most amazing way. The waiter was Ray, amazing service. Please ask for him next time!
Wasn't sure about this place, but it's a must when in town. Eric our waiter was informative and so personable. Ask for him and you won't be disappointed. The service is top notch. We ordered the Japanese hamachi and it was like butter. Soft and tasty. Also started with the cucumber, corn, avocado salad, just the right amount of citrus. Hubby had the Duke and the meat melted in your mouth. I had the fillet 6 ounce it was yummy. We paired it with the blue cheese creamy mashed potatoes and the broccolini so happy. To end the evening we had the donuts lightly sugared and wow. Everything was so good. Would come back again. All I can say is WOW and WOW. Enjoyed the music in the background.
This is a higher Inn restaurant in downtown Chicago that is limited. They seem very crowded and popular is best to probably Uber or valet. They have a daily cotton candy flavor, which is awesome for someone who has a sweet tooth. The burger was OK. The fries were extremely salty. My drinks were good set at the bar because there was literally no seats. Highly recommend you make a reservation there was nothing recommended or really outstanding about this place. Hope you enjoy!
Amazing food, amazing service and the mood and ambiance of the restaurant was very calm and relaxing. Very very impressed with RPM Steak. An amazing steakhouse is @rpmsteak. The steaks were well seasoned, the seafood was fresh, the chicken was juicy, the sides were delicious, and the desserts were delish. The sides we got were the Millionaires Potato, the Crispy Brussels Sprouts, the Bacon Mac & Cheese, and the Rosemary French Fries. The Bacon Mac & Cheese is a must have and was definitely one of my favorites. The main dishes were the Cowboy Steak, the Center-Cut Filet, the Ribeye, the RPM Steak Frites, and the Roasted Chicken, respectively. The shareable plate was the Petite Chilled Seafood Tower which everyone enjoyed. The dessert we got was a chocolate cake and complementary pink cotton candy for the table. A good bar tender goes along way in elevating your dining experience, especially if you're waiting for dinner guest to arrive. Maddy the chill and engaging bar tender does just that. She is also confidently aware of the menu and had recommendations based on my preferences! Most, if not all Lettuce Entertain you restaurants are quality establishments, this included. Pricing is expensive but on par with other steak houses. Service is of course second to none and very unobtrusive. My water glass just fills itself without me noticing. The Bernie Miller chop, spicy broccolini, miso black cod and Japanese sweet potatoes were fine. Special mention however goes to the delmonico ribeye, parmesan spinach, Lobster Mac and cheese - these are reasons to come back. Another reason is the caramel bake Alaska that we didn't have time to order. So I guess I'm really coming back. Caramel backed Alaska are you kidding me? I'm in. We came here for happy hour immediately at 4:00 and we were so impressed!! Our favorite of the night was the tartare, we could have had several orders but everything we got was tasty! The happy hour menu is enough for apps not necessarily a full meal, which makes it perfect for a start to GNO! Impressed by RPM Steak. We've tried most of the highly rated Chicago "steak" restaurants and I'd put RPM Steak up with the best of them. The service was impeccable. Our server was very knowledgeable of the menu, gave great suggestions and had an entertaining personality. The food was amazing. During this dining experience we had a group of five guys, so we tried a bunch of appetizers to start. One app to suggest was the thick cut bacon. One of my favorite thick cut steaks I've had. It was so tender, you could cut it with a fork. Top that with a perfect blend of sweet and savory flavor. Definitely worth trying it. Everyone had different cuts of steak for the main course, ranging from the Delmonico, cowboy cut, and filet. RPM Steak had 5 different cuts of wagu being sold by the ounce on the menu. We tried two different varieties in a few ounces each as a preface to the main steak course. The general consensus was the snow wagu was the favorite, super marbled and melts in your mouth. We also had a few different side dishes to share. The Japanese sweet potatoes were the table favorite. But the millionaires potato, which is a loaded twice baked potato was also a highlight of the sides After this first experience at RPM Steak, I put it on my top 5 steak restaurants in the city, based on the ambiance, service, and of course the food and wine list. read more
This place had been on my list for quite some time but for some reason I went to almost every other steakhouse in the city before this one. Well let me say it was definitely worth the wait! Now it did take longer than I would like to be seated especially for a not so busy Tuesday night. Moving on to the positives, the bacon appetizer was delicious with a vanilla glazed crust for just the right amount of crunch. It paired very well with the Parker house rolls that had a sprinkle of sea salt in every bite. The wagyu New York strip was very good not the same melt in your mouth experience of Japanese wagyu but still delicious. The sides also were very good especially the Japanese sweet potatoes, definitely a hit! Our waiter was very attentive he had the perfect balance of checking on us enough without being intrusive. They had a nice soundtrack playing in the restaurant but you could still hear everything being said in your conversation. All in all it was a great experience, RPM Steak definitely gets my vote. read more

We had the cowboy ribeye and millionaire's baked potato with truffles on top. The Caesar salad was one of the best salads I've had in a long time. Lovvvvveeee RPM Steak Happy Hour! It's one of the best happy hours in the city! I've been twice in the last 30 days lol. I love the crab here it's so good! The steak frites are seasoned to perfection and they cook it perfectly upon request, your preference and I'm not a steak fan but I'll eat there until the end of time! The cocktails are tasty; fresh and picture perfect! I think my favorite might've been the expresso! The Man enjoyed his old fashioned with the "RPM" large square ice cube! Nice touch! River North $$$$ Steaks | Wine | Dessert drama RPM Steak transformed a spontaneous evening into an unforgettable celebration. We were looking for a last-minute Saturday night reservation to celebrate my residency match (Chicago Medical School ) while my parents were visiting from LA. The manager overheard us chatting and somehow pulled off a miracle--securing a prime 8pm table. The night began with a surprise champagne toast, and to top it off, they printed my name on the menu. That kind of personal touch doesn't go unnoticed, especially on short notice. The Food We ordered the 16 oz Dry-Aged New York Strip and the 8 oz Ribeye Filet--both perfectly cooked, well-rested, and packed with flavor. The Hen of the Woods mushrooms were a major standout--rich, buttery, and deeply savory. Truly unforgettable. For dessert, we shared the Baked Alaska--equal parts stunning and delicious. It's not just a showy tableside moment--it actually tastes incredible. Then came the cotton candy they provided to us on the house, which we somehow turned into a mini fashion moment before devouring. No regrets. Drinks & Vibe The wine list is extensive, and our server guided us toward a bottle that paired beautifully with the meal. Been wanting to try another RPM restaurant since my amazing experience at RPM Italian a few years ago. It did not disappoint. Beautiful interior and decadent food. The staff are impeccably dressed and take care of you from beginning to end. Our steaks were perfectly cooked. The bread to start was soft and warm. My drink was served in a cool manner , poured down a long spoon. The cotton candy at the end was such a great way to end our experience. I wish I could have filled more in my belly bc the desserts looked and sounded amazing. read more

Wow, a 5/5 experience for me. I came here for a prefix dinner, with coworkers, and got to try quite a bit of the menu. We sat in the bar area, and still had a lot of space. The restaurant is a great place for a large group, and also small parties as well. My favorite items on the menu were the bread rolls, hamachi crudo, the wedge salad, the Ribeye steak and the 14 K chocolate cake and the strawberry cheesecake. I pretty much enjoyed every single thing on the item, but those were the standouts for me. Everything was brought out warm or fresh, and I was blown away with the quality of it all. There's not too much else for me to say because everything was amazing from the service, ambiance, and food. I also appreciated they had a seasonal mocktail which I was happy to try. I loved this place and I'll be returning here everytime I'm in Chicago! My husband and I are avid steak eaters so we decided to check this place out! We ordered the wagyu tataki for an appetizer. It was delicious. The truffle on top really made it extra special. We also ordered the cowboy steak, truffle fries, and bleu cheese mashed potatoes. Delicious! I haven't had a good steak like this in a restaurant! For desert, we ordered the baked Alaska. Since we were celebrating our honeymoon (yes I know it says happy birthday lol), our waiter also brought us cotton candy. They flambé the baked Alaska at the table, so that was really cool! The desserts were also very delicious. Waiters are kind, service is fast. Your water is always topped off! The place is dark, but not too dark. We attended a hosted dinner during the Midwest Clinic. Although all items had been preordered, the service and engaging nature of the staff was impeccable. We shared several appetizers and salads. I had the ribeye filet which was perfectly prepared. Brussels sprouts side was delicious. We then finished with 5 different desserts including the baked Alaska. Really great stuff. Decor was later dated -felt Vegas-y and guys at front desk w/ the tude wasn't a great first impression...first of all - made reservation months ago...and still got sat at bar area... but rest of experience was great! Had octopus as app...then Split a ribeye w/ hubby, also broccolini and millionaire truffle potatoes and yes it was decadent! I stopped to make sure I would have room for dessert - cheesecake and some of my son's Oreo cookie sundae...it was better than the cheesecake! Steak me to heaven! What isn't wonderful about RPM? Let's talk ambiance: sexy, cozy, intimate, and a vibe. Service is impeccable. Shout out to our personal server, Sam. She really knows her stuff. The star of the show is the food. For starters we had the thick cut bacon. Be prepared to melt into the ecstasy of five star dining. It is far beyond what you would expect. Tender. Juicy. Succulent. Loved it. For the entree, I had the bison filet and my bestie had the Duke ribeye. Stellar! They were tender, perfectly cooked, and full of flavor and juicy. We had the Hasselbeck potatoes and spicy broccolini as sides. Can you say seduction of the tongue? Now, it's important to know that here sides are meant for sharing. If you haven't tried black truffle butter on your steak, make it a priority here. The level of elegance it adds to the flavor is astounding. It's like a sweet melody dancing on your tastebuds. The wine selection is wonderful as well. This is a great date night, girls' night or celebration spot. This place was recommended to be by a good friend. I'm from Orlando and we have a lot of steakhouse but this one was nice. Clean lines and a sleek decor. The server was knowledge about and recommended a few dishes along with explaining the side dishes. I tried the bison filet and my guest had waygu burgers. They loved they waygu burgers. My bison was topped with blue cheese crumbles and cooked medium. It was very tender and tasted great. We also tried the caster salads but we didn't love those. We celebrated our Anniversary here and the staff made it a great experience! We sat at a high top at the bar and loved the elevated view of the dining room and energy from the bar. Our server was great and we loved the menu greeting and nice touch with a fun cotton candy dessert. The food was amazing from apps to dessert. Shrimp cocktail -- perfectly chilled and firm. Wished the horseradish had more kick. The kale salad was thumbs up too. Our filets were perfectly seared and cooked. The mushrooms and whipped spuds were perfect-- we got the blue cheese on the side. Anniversary dinner at RPM & the food we ordered was excellent. The crab appetizer is next level. If you like crab meat, you will be obsessed with this. It's worth every penny. We ate our meal and ordered 1 more as a dessert lol. My husband also got the scallops. He enjoyed them but the crab was the star of the appetizer show. We had the Westholme Strip and it was phenomenally cooked and seasoned. We paired this with the Japanese sweet potatoes. The sweetness of the potatoes and the spicy peppers combo is like a salsa performance in your mouth. Let those flavors dance! This place was made for "guys night" it has photos of rockstars and motorcycles, definitely a specific audience in mind. The food was alright. I started with the steak tartare which was amazing- it had truffle oil and herbs and spices and was made at the table. next I got a New York Strip Steak that was well cooked and seasoned lightly. I also got the shredded Kale salad which was covered in dressing and bacon- a bit too tangy for my taste. Lastly I got the bacon Mac n Cheese- very thick, makes for great leftovers! Was super excited to try RPM recently! With the holidays coming up, I opted for lighter fare this time around. I ordered the Shredded Kale Salad topped with prime steak, and found most of the dish to be very... chewy. The steak had a wonderful flavor and crispy char but was not super tender. Between the hard thick cut bacon and ample kale, my jaw was a bit sore afterward. I think some texture contrast with toasted nuts and extra creaminess via avocado or egg could've been a nice addition. The thinly sliced mushrooms and citrus dressing brought some nice freshness though that complemented the rich proteins well. Overall, this was likely not reflective of RPM's full menu, so I look forward to trying other dishes! read more

This is absolutely fine dining! And with a high price lol. The service is top notch, the staff is nice and thorough with explaining their menu. It was very helpful since this was our first time dining at rpm. This is a cozy spot that is perfect for date night. I want to say this can accommodate 200-300+ people in total. There are 2 floors, both designed the same with dimmed lights throughout. The quality of the steak here (and everything else) is out of control high and it tastes and shows. I split the Delmonico ribeye with future hubs and added black truffle butter on top and it was absolutely delicious. This was cooked perfectly and literally melts in your mouth. I think it was 16 oz so this was a great steak to share. For sides we had the broccolini and blue cheese whipped mashed potatoes. Originally we asked for the blue cheese crumble on the side however you def need it on there, it hits the spot! We were here for our friends birthday and they brought cotton candy for us to share, it was a great way to end the night. read more

What is the purpose of the $50 deposit? What does it go towards? Is it added to the bill? Just curious! I am interested in this establishment for my birthday.

Is this steak house kid friendly, I have my anniversary coming up and I have 2 kids. 5 years old and 2.5 years old, don't have a place to leave them?

What is the dress code?
Causal. For example, I wore jeans and a polo shirt. Some patrons were very formal, others were business casual, the rest had jeans and a nice top. Hope that helps
Has anyone dined in the greenhouses? How are the COVID procedures? Are they aired out in between reservations?
Yes. Very few tables and those were seated every other table. There was ample ventilation.

I actually reviewed RPM in December of 2019. Went there for a work holiday dinner and it was a spectacular experience. The decor, the service...the food all top notch. We were in nice jeans, sport coats or sweaters. I didn't feel underdressed at…
My boyfriend is a vegetarian,do they have alot of options for veggies besides mash potatoes?
Yes! I went with a coworker that is vegetarian. He ordered the potatoes, Brussel sprouts and broccoli.
This may be silly, but are the crab legs hot or cold? And how Spicy is the miso lobster?
It's RPM you can have your crab legs chilled or warm. Miso wasn't spicy to me.
Question regarding the dressy attire. How dressy or casual is it?
They're not going to throw you out if you're too cas, but I would dress nice for this place.
Friend asked if 14k is ok- says 24k is what's mandatorily used due to purity. Ppl were scared to eat bc google said not to under 23/24k, but I still ate it. To clarify, my Q is not if I'm gonna be ok, it's if i'm paying $14 to eat toxins?
