We went Sunday, June 4th. Food was good but the service was really bad. We had to ask 3 times for an appetizer, no refills for our drinks, literally had to ask multiple times for anything we needed and were never greeted friendly or made to feel we were anything more than a bother. This was our second time there - the first time the service was a little better but still not good but we decided to give it one more try since we liked the food. We won't be back. read more

During a recent visit to the area, my wife and I tried Ruben's for dinner and were very satisfied..... Overall, the wait staff was friendly, very attentive and knowledgable. The food was authentic and very good.... if you like Enchilada's you got to try them with the carnitas filling (excellent). However, if you order Enchilada's, I would recommend that you order 3 instead of 2 because they are a little on the small side. Bottom line is that we will definitely return when back in the area. read more

Comparing surrounding Mexican restaurants, Rubens by far is better. Then you take price into consideration, and is by far the best bang for your buck. The food is always fresh and has the true authentic flavors. This family owed business is truly worth the return visit. read more

Nice little neighborhood spot. Not very many tables, but luckily we didn't have to wait. Tasty salsa with just enough kick without being overly spicy. Food was solid--not overly huge portions that my husband prepares, but quality was excellent--could taste the fresh ingredients. The kicker was their special pineapple margarita--I'd never seen a pineapple margarita on a menu before, so I had to try it. Yum! Again, very fresh tasting, not one of those overly syrupy sweet margaritas out of a bottle that you find at so many Mexican places. Good quality tequila in the margarita, too. Last night was my second visit, with my best friend. We stumbled across this restaurant while taking a road trip one evening. We liked it so much we had to come back.We were seated right away. We really enjoyed the fresh made salsa and homemade chips. We decided to get something off the specials list. I had the 2 brisket taco dinner and my friend had the hot (spicy) shrimp dinner. And just like the first visit, the food was wonderful. The wait staff is friendly, nicely dressed (no exposed shirt tails or low hanging pants), and attentive; no waiting for a refill! They're also ready and able to explain what is in a particular dish and/or how it's made. Patricia was our waitress. Chef Ruben even came out to talk with the customers while we were there. I'd love to see Ruben open another restaurant closer to home. Frankfort maybe? Prices are very reasonable considering the quality of the food. Haven't had any of the drinks because I was driving. Ok.... I celebrated my husband's birthday there yesterday! I had the best steak and shrimp fajitas EVER! The difference between this mexican restaurant and some others is that you don't need to drench your meat in sauce to give it flavor!! Their margarita's are made to order with fresh squeezed lime juice and you look forward to the new flavor next month! Love this restaurant! Nothing like it in the area. I love anything with the carne asada (especially the fajitas), and my husband is beyond obsessed with the shrimp tacos. Even though the food was ok, what is lacking is the service. My family of 5 arrived to a very crowded restaurant where we were escorted to an area by the bathrooms to wait for a table that was just finishing up. After about 10 minutes, the table was cleared and a another party was seated there that just walked in the door. Dumbfounded by the fact that we were there first, I mentioned that we have been waiting here and assumed that was our table. They apologized and said there was another table being cleared that was the same size, instead of saying that they forgot that we were already there. Okay. We ordered some things that were on the ala carte menu and tacos that were supposed to only have lettuce and meat on them for my picky children. While the order was put in, we were offered some of those tasty chips and salsa, well albeit very good, I almost choked on a thin piece of foil that was in the salsa, where in the heck did that come from! Thank God my other kids didn't ingest that! I always try to give restaurants the benefit of the doubt in some instances, but on to the food. After waiting for what seemed forever with out food, the waitress hands us a dinner plate saying that she accidentally put in for a dinner instead of just the tacos and handed them over. Who doesn't check their order before giving it to us. So we ended up getting one more taco and some sides that we never ordered which meant more money. By that time, after the wait, we just accepted and ate because my children couldn't wait anymore. Not surprisingly my child wasted that dinner since I knew that he wouldn't eat those sides. Ok, now off to my oldest son. Those tacos with just lettuce and meat ended up with potatoes on it as well. More food wasted by my picky son. It is nice to be able to get your order right at a restaurant, if fast food can do it, they should be able to. I was a bit disappointed since I live in Dyer and I was really looking forward to the restaurant with the rave reviews. Oh, well, there are other places that will have better service that also match the tasty cuisine. read more

This is my new favorite Mexican restaurant in the area! The service and food were great. My husband enjoyed his margarita on the rocks. We started with the Queso Blanco. I generally prefer queso dips that are more nacho cheese consistency over the fundido kind that is melted cheese in a skillet that hardens when it cools. This dip was somewhere in between both of those and it was fantastic! It came on a skillet with roasted peppers and onions in it and it stayed melted the whole time. For my meal I had the veggie enchiladas, one red and one green. It had well seasoned roasted veggies in it. For the vegetarians out there the beans and rice are both vegetarian and tasted great. My husband had a taco combo with al pastor and steak tacos and said it was really good. Our friends also enjoyed their carne asada and chicken taco dishes, although the chicken was a bit over salted. They have great homemade red and green "hot" sauces (not hot though). I wish they had really spicy hot sauce. The only things I didn't really care for were the salsa and I would skip dessert too as the strawberry cream cheese crepes dessert my friend ordered was bad. read more

It's just all around good. Went last night as a three top, got seated right away. Place was full after two other tables got sat and it stayed that way till we left. I saw two 4 tops leave after they couldn't get a table right away. Ourt server was great she was on the ball all night. The salsa with the chips has such a fresh clean flavor, you can tell this didn't come out of a gallon container. The salsa Maria will have your nose running in no time. I like hot but I had to cut back on that stuff. Enchiladas were great, the stuffed taco / Empanadas I got with the carnita was excellent I could only finish one because I was filling up on the chips. The fajita bowl looked great but I couldn't get any of that because she was really enjoying that. That little bit of room I had was quickly filled up when Ruben had his server bring out the platter of fresh donuts that were still warm when they came to the table. Oh the soft fluffy goodness was a wonderful finish to a great meal. I'd recommend this place to anyone. read more
