I love Rubio's shrimp tacos--they're honestly the best. I decided to stop in and try their new double protein bowl with shrimp, of course. I was pleasantly surprised by the generous double portion of shrimp. The flavor profile was on point, and everything tasted fresh and well-balanced. Side note: I did ask for extra sauce because I'm a sauce girl through and through, and it really made the bowl even better. The only downside to this location is that there is an older gentleman, possibly a manager or owner, who works there. He tends to look at customers in a way that feels a bit uncomfortable, almost as if you're being watched closely or suspected of something. He isn't very approachable, and the overall vibe he gives off is not very friendly. When I asked a team member about it, I was simply told he is "not a friendly person," which kind of confirmed the experience. I've actually always been a fan of Rubio's when I lived in California. I enjoy their fish and shrimp tacos. I love how convenient and clean this location is. I'm sure it gets busy on weekends as it's right next to the movie theaters. Salsa bar is throughly packed with all the salsas and extra goodies for your tacos. I picked up dinner for one from this Rubio's Coastal Grill one Friday evening. I saw ad for the new (at the time) Guajillo Lime Shrimp bowl and thought it looked appetizing. I went on their website and ordered ahead. Ordering online was a breeze. After about 15 minutes, I decided to come in. I was greeted as soon as I entered. The dining room was bright and offered ample seating. I let the friendly staff know I was picking up an order and gave them my name. The food was ready and waiting for me. The bowl came with sustainably sourced shrimp marinated in a guajillo lime seasoning atop citrus rice, black beans and romaine lettuce with guacamole, salsa fresca, chipotle white sauce, seasoned corn tortilla strips and a Salsa Guajillo. I was impressed by the generous portion and amount of shrimp. The dish was fresh, flavorful, and filling! It was also pretty affordable at ~$15. Unfortunately, the Guajillo Lime Shrimp bowl is no longer available as it was a limited time special. This location is a disgrace, and the behavior I experienced here was flat-out unacceptable. The general manager a Hispanic male carries himself like someone who has no business being in a leadership role. His attitude toward me, a Black woman, was openly hostile. The moment I walked in, it was obvious he had a problem with my presence. His energy was confrontational, uncomfortable, and downright unprofessional. And unfortunately, his staff follows his lead, adopting the same pack-mentality behavior whenever they think they can get away with mistreating Black customers. I came in for a remake of a meal I paid over $30 for. The first burrito had RAW shrimp and looked like it was thrown together by someone who simply didn't care. And that's been a pattern with this place anything discounted or remade is treated like trash. It feels intentional at this point. Instead of fixing the issue and moving on, the manager decided to interrogate me. He demanded explanations, raised his voice, and acted offended that I dared expect the food I paid for to be cooked properly. While I waited, he hovered, made inappropriate comments, and seemed to be looking for a reaction. It was almost like he wanted an excuse to escalate or call the police. That's how aggressively he behaved. This is not a manager this is a man who cannot regulate his emotions, cannot maintain professionalism, and absolutely cannot be trusted to run an establishment that serves the public. His behavior was mean-spirited, antagonistic, and unnecessary. This location is chaotic, petty, and hostile especially toward Black patrons. Save yourself the stress and go somewhere that actually respects customers. read more

Rubio's coastal trio is pretty good! I can get full on two tacos. I like either the shrimp taco or the original taco the best. The shrimp taco can be a little messy with all the juice and the sauce, but I like it a lot. The original taco has some sauce that I think can also be found at the salsa bar. At the salsa bar they have limes and jalapeños and carrots. They have four salsas. I like the green salsa the best followed by the mild salsa. They also have a spicy salsa that might be the mild salsa mixed with either Tabasco or some other hot sauce. The last salsa is a roasted chipotle. I might want to order either two shrimp tacos or two original tacos or one of each next time. The cabbage is fresh and I like the crunch of the original taco. I also like the chips or the tacos with lots of sauce. The service to order was a little slow and it took a little while to get our food. It seemed like they were a little busy. read more

Rubio's has been my go to place when I run out of options or want something filling and quick. This location is easy access and clean. The service is quick and they are friendly. My favorites are definitely the california bowl and the tacos. I love that they add avocado without paying extra for it unlike Chipotle. These dishes are my rescuers in time of crisis of not finding a restaurant. Also love all the extra sauces they provide which can be paired with these dishes. On the whole a very good place with reasonable cost and a quick healthy lunch. read more

What happened, Rubio's? You used to be one of my go to places for fish tacos and tasty salsa. But I stopped by yesterday and I didn't finish my fish taco. It was dry, overly breaded, and bland. My wife had a bean and cheese burrito that was 8.50 plus taxes--what? And it was also not tasty. So upon entering we were not only not greeted, we were ignored and treated with near contempt, as if we were interrupting things. I think Rubio's began to go downhill quite a while ago when they went from plastic utensils to metal. Portion size decreased while they "upped" their game to plates and real utensils--why?? Anyway, our table was sticky, food was bland and over-priced (even for this economy), and overall not a good experience. It's just 2 of us at home now, so we're usually having take-out from local eateries more nights than not. Of the 12 online orders I've placed at RCG so far this year (6 mos down and 6 to go), I'd say they're running at about a 30% order accuracy rate - - - maybe (*maybe*) 3 or 4 of my online orders have been correct. They're (literally) worse than the McDs drive up window. It's really not so hard to get the order right. The online order ticket that prints out in your restaurant couldn't possibly be any more clear. Every single item and item quantity is listed on the ticket. This is the second time I go to this location and I have to say the manager Alvaro (possibly misspelled) has the absolute worst customer service. Was rude to my wife once and was rude to me to where he was arguing with me. Iv never felt so humiliated as people were staring at us. Brooklin was my cashier and she made faces when I asked for a side of 1/2rice 1/2 beans for my toddler who is a picky eater (mind you he could not finish even the small side).The manager Cory came and just said 'no' very rudely without looking at us or any explanation. If you want to place a phone order for pick-up, DON'T come to this location. You might as well just order in-store. Placed a phone order at 6:40 (on 11/13) and picked it up at around 7:05 ish. I paid for my order and waited for about 25 mins. I notice that a couple of employees are just standing around talking and serving other customers who were behind me in line when I paid. So I went up to the counter and told one of the employees that I called an hour ago to place an order and I'm still waiting for it. Come to find out it was just sitting on the counter.. This is a good place to go for lunch and don't feel like a burger or sandwich or don't feel like cooking dinner. The fish tacos here are a safe go-to. There is a good selection of salsas to dip your chips in as well. Service here tends to be hit or miss. Sometimes I get my order right away and sometimes it can be slow, especially in the evenings. Last time I had the coastal trio in which I found my new favorite thing on the menu, the shrimp tacos. The iced tea is also good here which is a nice compliment to the fish tacos. Taco Tuesday!!! I know fried foods are not good for you but their fish tacos are the bomb. My old coworker use to opt for the healthier choice with grilled fish so you do have options here. They also offer offer other items like chicken, beans and rice, and even desserts. Oh and alcohol. Going back to the fish taco, they are tasty, crispy, and filling. There cream sauce isn't too overpowering and they don't flood the tacos with the cole slaw. But ever since I had the fish taco especial, I have to have it. The only thing different from the regular fish taco and taco especial is avocado. Mmmmmm. I top it off with some lemon, lime, onions, and their jalapeño cilantro sauce. Woooh, spicy but not too spicy. When I am hangry, I get the two taco plate cause it comes with chips and beans. I hardly eat pinto beans but these guys do it right. Add the chips and it is a bonus.
