I frequent this location and I have always had great customer service, food comes out quick and I have never had any incidences where they have messed up my order. Home of the fish taco but since I'm not a huge fan of fish I come to Rubios for the grilled chicken, I really like their chipotle ranch and balsamic salad, baja grill burrito, and gourmet tacos! Absolutely love their chips, light and crunchy especially with the dark roasted or citrus jalapeno salsa to dip them in. The restaurant is always clean and the salsa bar is well stocked, they also have a few beer selections and sangria, nothing like a Corona and a taco on a hot day. I come to this location about once or twice every week and have never had a problem. Tonight I ordered my usual, a shrimp and bacon burrito. It was the worst every, the rice was over cooked as in crunchy, and there was 2 pieces of shrimp jammed in to either end of the burrito. The gal who took my order Mariam did her job , the kid at the pickup side of the house was just about as rude as they come. I don't expect much in the way of service when it comes to semi-fast food places, but I do expect the basics which I do not regularly get here. On my last visit I was the only one in line, but had to watch two employees work on something together and not even acknowledge my presence. After a few moments of waiting, someone finally looked at me like "what do you want" - no greeting whatsoever. After placing my order and getting rang up, I paid without getting a "thank you" or a smile. When my order was ready, someone called my name, tossed the bag on the counter and turned to do something else - no "thank you", no confirming my order, no "have a nice day" or anything close to it. As I said, I don't expect much, but with most business' going the extra mile to give quality customer service, I'd think Rubio's - a large chain - would do better. This location happens to be located next to the Edwards Theater and we popped in before the movie to save on paying the high prices inside the theater. Location: 4 Simply due to the parking and convenient proximity to the theater. There is a lot of parking as it is located in a large strip mall with external businesses. Atmosphere: 3 It's lay out and décor is just like every other chain restaurant. The basics which do nothing to set it apart from the competition. Customer Service: 3 The same half smiles from the staff who seem to hate their job. It's the typical food service worker. Food: 1 There is no coming back from pulling out a long curly dark brown/black hair 2 bites in. I nearly vomited on my plate. It was absolutely disgusting. This made me look to the kitchen staff who appeared as unsanitary as they come. I could immediately identify who the hair came from. Her uniform was filthy it appeared she hadn't showed in a week, not to mention she appeared to be sweating profusely. The entire staff was not wearing proper hair nets or masks to cover facial hair. I put my meal down and walked out. My family followed suit because it disgusted them as well. Price: 2 I put this at below average when compared to the mom and pop places where price vs. taste and quality equate. At most mom and pop Mexican places you get a huge burrito for about $5. I paid $6.99 for a mini version of those "mom and pop burritos" that tasted mediocre (not that I want to remember tasting it). Cleanliness: 1 This is based off the looks of the kitchen and staff. I love Rubio's. Their fish tacos are delicious and local to us in SD. This Rubio's is handy to us since we go to the movie theater and the nearby Target a lot. Sometimes I switch things up and I don't have my usual which is the original fish taco combination. The single star is for the service not the quality of food. The food here is as delicious as their other locations, but I went in for my lunch today and they had one person ringing then stopping with five people in line to deliver and bag food then running back. I waited fifteen minutes just to order and after I'd waited a manager came out from the back and the girl sitting eating on her break came up. The poor guy Matt was running the front alone during lunch rush. Not acceptable. I believe the managers name was Yonny. Might want to check in on your frannchised locations guys. read more

Came here to avoid the college dr one since food from there was not very good. Cashier didn't listen well to no cheese though so we had to send beans back. They replaced it without switching plates because the beans still had some cheese. This was supposed to be a make up from a bad experience and they didn't do a good job. My son's fish taco was good but had no cheese and that was the especial which I think should come with cheese. This Rubio's is great almost every time I'm in. Occasionally they make a mistake with your order, but for the most part they do a really good job. Customer service is also really good, and the last couple of times I've been in the young man, I believe his name is Robert, is always on the ball....he's answering the phone, taking orders, and running the show all simultaneously. You can't tell me you're from San Diego if you don't know what a pesky combo is. I love Rubios and I have been a regular ever since my mom started taking me here as a kid. I love the fish tacos from here, but who doesn't? The lobster burrito is a seasonal favorite, but it is certainly worth the wait (and the $9 price tag.) Rubios has a little of everything, you can grab a foreign or domestic bottle of beer with your tacos, add some rice and beans, get yourself a bag of chips and descend upon the salsa bar...you can sit in the back in a booth, you can grab an umbrella and sit outside. The people at this location are always friendly. The restaurant is always clean or being cleaned every time I have ever been in there. They keep the salsa bar full and wiped down. The fountain drinks here are usually brisked well and have plenty of carbonation. I recently learned that you can also order dessert here! Check out the photos from my last visit. read more

Locals may bash this place, but this is ALWAYS my favorite standby for fresher fast food. There is enough variety on the menu that it does not get boring to come here often for lunch. The salsa bar is good. This place is a must (maybe the original down in PB) for your tourist friends...or you can go to Rosarito, get the original and get sick like I did! I had been wanting fish taco's for awhile. Went in on Taco Tuesday, place was not busy. As I was placing my order a manager or lead stopped the person who was taking my order to show him a paper. Needless to say our order was wrong and we were already home when we noticed it. Place was dirty. Half the tables had not been cleaned. Trash on the floor. Two other employees talking. The manager not paying attention, too concerned about the paper he is handing out to the only person working. Crazy work ethics and chaotic. I personally am not a big fan of Rubios. If i am ever forced to get some i only like the california bowl because it reminds me of what i get at chipotle and I always regret not just getting chipotle. Normally the food is okay, nothing crazy, but the california bowl i had yesterday was very disappointing. Not only did i not get guacamole, but just a HUGE ball of just avocado, the rice was the same and stuck in big blobs. After throwing the avocado to the side and the chunky pieces of rice, i was able to tolerate the meal because I was absolutely starving. I just ordered my favorite meal at Rubio's. Kids meal quesadilla beans and chips and a side of cabbage. Open up the quesadilla, spoon in the beans and cabbage, best burrito ever. I see Rubio's everywhere. It's a green sign but I haven't been too enticed to visit them. After a bike ride this weekend, that changed. We went in just to look at the menu, but I knew I was hooked the moment I opened the door. The food smelled delightful. Maybe I just love a great grill. Either way, Rubio's is fantastic. Talk about a major turn around. There fish tacos have improved big time. In the past I would never go to rubios for a fish taco, but I would end up there because my wife like there burritos. We were eating there and I decided to eat a fish taco for something to do. I immediately noticed a difference in the taco and mentioned it to my wife.
