I've been to this restaurant three times and it just keeps getting worse. This time I ordered online and sat there waiting for twenty minutes before the staff got around to answering me about where my order was. Oh our online system is down so we didn't get it. Oh? Really? Well how was I supposed to know that I asked? She had no idea of course. Tried to cancel order in App but no way to so the manager came out to "help". This is a really nice Rubio's, and is a Test Kitchen location. You get unusual items sometimes, as they try out the new combos and preview food. (What happened to Tortilla Soup, didn't that make the cut?) The fish tacos are good, but my favorite is probably the bacon & cheese shrimp tacos. They've changed it so you can order the seafood any way you want, but the shrimp goes best with the bacon cheese, more so than Mahi (which is best as a bowl). I've never had a problem with any of my orders, most of which are to go. Just remember to get napkins and utensils if you need them, because they don't give them to you automatically to conserve. This shopping center, due to the large amount of restaurants in it, can be a parking nightmare. Try to get there before 11:30, or after 1:00 to make it easier. There are some short-time parking spaces in front of the restaurant, but those fill up quickly. read more

Standard Rubios cuisine here, the several times I have eaten here the service seems to be a bit slow. Not overwhelmingly slow, but not inspirationally fast either. I stop in for my lunch/dinner break during the week from my job around the corner, and have found that getting take in service here involves a bit of a wait. Keep in mind, all of Rubios food is made fresh to order, and I fully take that fact into consideration. However, I also visit the Rubio's location near our home in Escondido, and their pace of play is much quicker than at this location. I've been to this location for pick up several times throughout the pandemic because it's the closest one from my home. Every time I'd go the wait to order and get your food were pretty long compared to ALL other locations I've been to. Today was no different in regards to the wait. The more disappointing part was my fish tacos tasted slightly burnt and like the cooking oil hadn't been changed recently. Then I took a bite of a chip and it was definitely far from fresh. They tasted different then all other locations too. Thicker and not as thin and crispy as the locations. More chewy than crunchy. My wife ordered her traditional two chicken taco plate and said it was really fatty chicken pieces. The operator of this location could obviously give this place some more effort here as it is NOT consistent with any other locations my family and I been to. 4.5 stars. I didn't feel like leaving my hotel for dinner, so I decided to pull up my trusty Yelp app and see what good eats were in the area. I definitely made a good choice, because everything I ordered from here was awesome! I ordered chips and guac as a starter, the 3 taco plate with one grilled fish taco, one fried fish taco, and a verde shrimp taco. Oh my goodness... amazing! Good, fresh guacamole is one of the things I love (and truly miss) about this area, and this place truly delivered. Great way to start my meal. The grilled fresh in my first taco was tender and slightly spicy, with crunchy cabbage and a piquant crema on top. The shrimp in my second taco were plump and perfectly seasoned, then sprinkled with more crunchy cabbage and drizzled with a delicious sauce that complimented it perfectly. The fried fish taco was a little heavy for me after the chips, guac, and all of that grilled seafood, but I pushed through and finished it because it was entirely too tasty to leave behind. I also ordered a churro for dessert, and let me tell you that it was the best one I've ever had. My order was delivered within a reasonable window of time, and the driver gave me a heads up when he was on the way. The delivery fee was more than reasonable, and the $15 minimum ensured that I had all of my meal courses (appetizer, dinner, and dessert) covered. Most importantly, the meal was amazing: simple, unpretentious food with conspicuously fresh ingredients. Nicely fried on top of tortilla with onions, cilantro, cheese. They have a salsa bar where you can add more onions and cilantro on as well as lime/lemon. My favorite sauce is their spicy picante. This location is super clean and has easy parking. I've been here twice and can say it's quite a peaceful place to eat. The workers here are friendly and when when you order for here, they bring the food to you. I ordered the wild Alaskan halibut (August special) tacos plate and they accidentally gave me a fish taco and one Alaskan halibut; they caught the mistake and still gave me my second Alaskan halibut, so bonus points for service because I got to keep the fish taco. The beans were delightful and the chips were nice and crisp. The salsa bar and refreshment area was also very clean and wiped down. I love shrimp and their green salsa and I really enjoyed the Oaxacan sauce that came on the tacos. Not spicy at all even though it says it contains chiles. Arrived here hungry yesterday to satisfy my craving for fish tacos. My choice was the mango salsa mahi mahi taco plate with greens. The fish was dry and tasted rather bland. As soon as we walked in we were greeted warmly by a few people behind the counter. After looking over the regular and test kitchen menu I decided on the burrito especial with chicken, guac, rice and beans, salsa, and chipotle sauce. It was deeeeeelicious . Love their food. It's fresh and consistently good! The location in Clairemont is excellent. The staff greet you when you walk in, "so be sure to say hello back". This location is cool (when the SD days are warm) and very well kept. Consistently good food that is made and is still hot when delivered to your table. Each and every time I walk away and am full and extremely satisfied. I cannot say enough about the friendly staff. Be sure to let the manager know when the staff does a good job or puts a smile on your face after a long day. This is only one place where I do not take my food to go.
