There are specialty pizzas and build your own. It is unclear how much a build your own is since the menu board says 2 toppings with the exception of premium toppings but it doesn't list what the premium toppings are. There are also options for salad but it doesn't say what the salad is??? Mixed? Caesar? Fruit prosciutto? When you do walk through the line to pick out your sauces and cheeses and toppings it's unclear what you are permitted to use (all? One? Two?) and they are not generous with the amounts. For $13.99 I'd like a little more than what equates to one meatball if that's my only protein. The salad was not impressive either. The lettuce was long uncut and slightly discolored. There was more dressing than lettuce. Employees not very friendly. No personality and didn't explain to new customers how it works. For as many employees who work here the trash was overflowing and someone was taking their break at a customer table with their feet up. The pizza was good enough but I don't think I'll be returning. I was super excited to find a Blaze around this area, since I was just visiting. When we started our order, the people working the counter were not stingy on the toppings and very nice! Unfortunately, my pizza came out burnt and I did notice they didn't have Tabasco like the other locations did. These two things made my rating go down. I always thought they weren't as good but that seemed to have gone out of the area so it's just Blaze for this type of build your own pizza I like the pizza here and I find the workers usually are very attentive and we'll make it the way you want it. The only sad thing is that at this location in Clairemont San Diego the patio has been in such terrible condition for years they don't do anything about it. The chairs are the original chairs that have been out there since the store opened and they are so filthy you can't really sit on them. They are beyond the point of being cleaned and the tables are so warped that they rock back-and-forth and spill your drinks and so there's very nice umbrellas and it would be nice to sit outside but you really can't do it. I entered the restaurant and was the only one in line to order. I was not acknowledged at all for several minutes while the staff fulfilled online orders. Went in at 6:15pm, knowing it was a couple minutes early just in case. Went up to the shelf for online orders didn't see it there. Ok. Waited a couple minutes went up to the worker packing orders at the last station and asked where I should pick up my order, he asked for the name I told him, he said it wasn't ready. End of conversation. Went and sat down near by. Place was moderately busy for dinner rush. Line was getting long reaching the door. There was a good amount of people waiting for their own order whether they did it online or waited in line. After a couple orders got called and it was calming down a bit, I realized it had be about 20/25mins of me waiting. Went up to the guy and asked again about my order just to be cautious. He asked for the name and I told him. He said it should be done in 5mins so and so it's almost done. I looked in the oven as he is telling me this and made it obvious that I am looking for my pizza in the oven. I don't see it, there wasn't even a lot of pizzas cooking at that moment. I didn't say anything I went and sat down again, the worker approaches me after sitting down and asked for the name AGAIN. Once he left I knew, the pizza is not in the oven. I watched another employee who was not working the line and squeeze in and start making the pizza. It was already 6:45ish by the time this is all happening. It's 6:57pm, order is finally called. There are a number of other items other than pizza, like breadsticks, salads and dessert which helps to meet everyone's needs. According to Yelpers the store is not kept clean and tidy, and the employees aren't adequately trained, are poorly selected, and just don't care. Well. This place was kind of a train wreck. No greetings when you first enter. Which is odd. From what we could see there were 5 employees. Backed up lined. My husband and I ordered 4 pizzas (for us and our two kids) they did not do them in order. So they started to do two of our pizzas, and then someone else's order in between ours and then our other two pizzas. It was just very mismanaged. Very stingy on toppings. I asked for artichoke hearts, and they probably gave me one and distributed it over the entire pizza. If I owned this specific franchise I'd be disappointed with how its ran. read more

I've been coming to this location for years, but my recent visit was a major letdown. First, the place was clearly understaffed, and the employees seemed overwhelmed and unhappy. Second, our pizza was left in the wood-fired oven for around 20 minutes--even though it should only take five--so it came out completely burnt. Third, the veggie and meat prep line was a mess. As a vegetarian, it was pretty off-putting to see meat scattered into the veggie section. There was even meat mixed into the ricotta cheese--seriously unappetizing. My most recent experiences at Pieology across the street led me to Blaze. At Pieology, some of the employees are touching everything with their gloves then touching the ingredients to add to the pizza. For example, wiping spilled ingredients from the counter top (with gloves hands) or handling multiple trays (clean and/or dirty) and not changing gloves before fixing up your pie. The wifey and I were in line watching this happen with the customer(s) in front of us. We look at each other with a "are you seeing this" look and we leave without ordering. That has happened on several occasions at Pieology. And I'm sure bacteria and the cooties are all killed with the heat and baking process, but still psychologically it's an appetite killer and we can't help but feel grossed out. That's what brought us to Blaze today. They are conscious of what they handle and wash hands / change gloves accordingly. I watched carefully. They have their signature menu and you can customize those as well as create your own. We both ordered Red Vines customized with different meats and veggies. Turned out to be good pizza, ingredients all tasted fresh. Service was good and pizzas came out in the time you'd expect. My knock on the place is that some of the booth seating needs to be replaced (they are worn out). This place has been around for many years and those seats could use some TLC. Owners/Corporate should keep the place looking nice. Second issue are tables should be clean an counter tops where pizzas are made should be clean. This is not an in person customer friendly location. We waited in line and were not acknowledged for 17min on a Wednesday because they were too busy helping online order customers. They kept giving priority to online orders coming in - even though the line was now 15 people deep. We finally ordered and decided to dine in. We got our order and they forgot our salad. We went up and informed them. The lady at the pick up counter rolled her eyes and said nothing - no sorry, no we will get that for you - nothing. We see that she told another employee something. We waited and they just called our name a couple of minutes later - again, no eye contact nothing. These employees definitely need better training on customer service.
