I love love love Ruby's Bakery. Their cakes are delectable. The service is very kind; yet professional. Their standard strawberry filled white cake and frosting is moise and sweet, but not too much. However, I ordered the chocolate cake with chocolate mouse and strawberry and banana filling for a baby shower and it was too die for! All my colleagues raved about the cake. Other goodies include the huge creme puffs and the mocha roll. Soooo yumma-licious! And you can't beat the prices! So inexpensive for the quality and yumminess you get! Rating: Yummy! read more

WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE!!! I read some bad review and some good ones, and even though I was skeptical, I decided to order my daughter's first birthday cake from them. It was a big order for 80 people... BIG MISTAKE!!! I called a week in advance and even called back again to make sure they get the details right for the cake so it'll go with the birthday theme. Sure enough, when I went to pick up the order, they had messed it up. It wasn't anything close to what I ordered. The decorations were all messed up, AND they put things on there I never asked for!!! WORST PART... the manager, Amy, didn't care to help me in any way. If this was for any other event, I wouldn't have care, but they messed up my daughter's first birthday and didn't give a s#*t about it... screw them. I'LL NEVER GO BACK THERE AGAIN. I ordered 16 chocolate cupcakes with colored whipped topping. I wanted pink, red, and blue for it to be ready the same day. The man that took my order was very nice and even asked if I wanted sprinkles (crystal or colorful) on top. I took them to the birthday party today at my kid's daycare and the parents kept commenting on how fluffy and moist they were. I was surprised to know that since I had bought them and stored them in the fridge the day before with a 40 minute ride commute. Very enjoyable and will come back here for future orders! read more

I haven't been here in awhile since I moved away. So...I'm confused...did they change owners??? Where is the little Chinese lady that use to help us back in the day? Needless to say, I was very disappointed with their service here and was surprisingly turned away. I was looking into a custom cake very similar to many of the ones posted here by other reviewers. I took pictures and samples of what I was looking for and went with an open mind for the baker's design. Sadly, the gal working at the front counter off the bat said they couldn't do it...but you don't even know what I want yet nor have you given me any options. I even asked if she could ask the baker since THEY would be the expert. But she refused to go ask! I was like "you can't go check with them? Or are you one of the bakers?" She simply said "I'm not the baker, but I know they won't be able to do it." At that point, I decided my money was no good here and said thank you and left. Went to Cakery Bakery in La Canada Flintridge, which is a bit more pricey, but they were so nice and helpful and made me the most wonderful cake! A bit disappointed with Ruby Bakery. I got a custom cake from here with a logo on it for my husbands birthday. The best thing they did with the cake was the logo -they screen printed it on and it looked great! The negative part is the cake itself--it was extremely dry and had no flavor to it. Unfortunately to say, I could've made a better one myself straight from the box. The people working there were friendly but I do have to give the low rating due to the quality of the cake. read more

Needed a birthday cake last minute on a Sunday morning. Find them on a Google search, they were on the way, so I took a risk and called them. Super friendly on the phone, they said come on by, they were open and they had several cakes to choose from. I got there and pick the cake, they decorated it, and it was outstanding. Let me just start by saying that I have to carry business Cards(Pink) In my purse. I have had Ruby's at every Event and I always get asked for a Card. We order the Chocolate cake with Chocolate mouse filling and Sliced Strawberries. It sounds like to much Chocolate, But its not it's so amazing and the right balance of Fresh Fruit and Light Frosting. I Once had to call 3 hours before I needed the cake and AMAZINGLY I was able to get a fresh baked Cake without an extra Charge. Come on where else could you have called and got a FRESH Cake in Such short notice. I didn't have to settled for a Store bought cake EWW!! Ruby's saved the Day. LOVE LOVE LOVE this place...it's such a hole in the wall. I first discovered this place through a friend who needed me to put together a wedding cake for her. This was her favorite bakery since she sort of grew up in Eagle Rock. They have the most AMAZING white cake with fresh strawberries & cream filling. It's UNREAL. So soft, moist, light, not too sweet...real whip cream frosting. It's fantastic. I think I ordered the wedding cake for $80 or something crazy like that...and then went downtown and picked up fresh flowers to decorate the cake with myself...it was gorgeous and I have to say the best tasting wedding cake I've ever had. Since then I always go there to get birthday cakes or if I'm having a picnic or something, I always get a couple of slices of their cakes. They also have a chocolate mousse cake, but really, the winning item is the strawberry! They sell it by the slice, and they sell some awesome cake toppers...like those vintage naked boobie girls with the toulle see thru-lingerie and reclining men with ken hairdo's in swimming trunks. Yesterday we went to Ruby Bakery, picked out the flavor (chocolate mousse), design (chocolate sprinkles with purple roses), and size (enough for 15 people). The total was $18.95 and the process took less than 5 minutes. They have speedy and friendly service, and their cakes are awesome. Would've given 5 stars, except for one downside - CASH ONLY. This is just based on buying from the display case and not special ordering cakes. I really like most things that I have tried. I love their fresh strawberry cake, it's my favorite cake of theirs. I'm not a huge fan of the mango cake which is odd since I usually love all things mango. I think in might be the gelatin or glaze used with the fresh mango that does not appeal? The cream puffs and eclairs are yummy and I really like their selection of cookies. However, I think my favorite thing from Ruby's are their meringue cookies! I love meringue in general and their meringue cookies with chocolate sprinkles are just too dangerous for me......wishing I had some now! Cash only is a bit of a hassle but forewarned is forearmed! I needed a cake on short notice, and was searching for places in LA that could print (edible) photos/pictures onto a cake. I did not want to go to Albertson's and I did not want a monstrous sheet cake that no one could finish. A bit of research on Chowhound boards turned up this place. I called and the (really nice) person on the phone said they print on a 1/8th sheet cake, which would feed 8-12, so long as I put in the order a day in advance. Bingo! I worked out the details (kind of cake, sprinkles no sprinkles, lettering, etc) on the phone and emailed over the photo. Easy enough. The cake itself was perfect. Cake printing technology must have gotten better since I was a kid, because the colors were more vibrant than I was expecting. The cake itself was delicious. After much internal debate, I had opted for their white cake with strawberries instead of the mango cake, because what if not everyone likes mango? It has just the right level of sweetness and amount of frosting. Cake was $16, print job was $12. Much cheaper than what other bakeries would have charged. I will definitely be back when I need another birthday cake, and also to try the mango. read more

Didn't see what I was looking for so I showed an image of what I wanted to have. The gentleman looked at it; replied okay I got it. I asked how much and he replied $50. He requested me to email the image to them that day, I called and they confirmed they received it. The day of pick up we got a call from the store OHHHH we could not find the picture you sent us... Would have never walked into this small , unassuming bakery had it not been featured on laist.com as one of the best places to eat in Eagle Rock. We got 2 cream puffs, an eclair, and a red velvet cupcake for $7! Before I forget, let me tell you that it is cash only here. Oh the cream puffs. Ruby had good reviews, so I picked up the smallest strawberry cream cake available. So pretty! So delicious! Also, the accommodating proprietor did a lovely personalization in about three seconds (I wish I could do that) and sold me a festive helium balloon, too.
