YUM! I was in Los Alamos for work for over 10 days and frequented Ruby's several times. The fresh bagels and cream cheese in the morning, the sandwiches for lunch, desserts and their great choices for fresh smoothies kept me and my coworkers coming back for more. First time lunch here today- got a 4 cheese panini to go. $7.50 + tip=$9 Service was great, the woman behind the counter was very nice and efficient and the woman who ultimately delivered my sandwich also was smiling and wishing me a good day. It only took 5 minutes for my order to come up (at around 11am, so not a very busy time of day). Sandwich was good, warm and melty. It was on an oregano foccacia bread, which was a little thick for a panini IMO, but the flavor was spot on (carmelized onions and tomatoes added for flavor). We ran here after church, but it was too crowded to sit and eat. So I split up with my husband, he went to starbuck's to get coffee, and I got bagels. Lines were about 15 min each, but we made it out at the same time and walked over to the park to have our "brunch". Bagels were great! LOVE the honey walnut low fat cream cheese. they also had cute local art there. The current display was impressionist pet paintings. quirky and cute. I stumbled upon Ruby K while searching for a gift shop in Los Alamos (you'll find more souvenir shirts in CB Fox department btw). It's jammed pack during lunch time maybe because of its small size or maybe because of its good food. It's good mostly because as a soup lover, they served canned tomato soup dumped chopped celeries and called it a tomato bisque. Hence, the three stars. Tomato soup would have been more apt. On the bright side, I liked my turkey bacon club sandwich on wheat and solid my boyfriend's chicken panini. Overall, I get the appeal of ruby k. Seems like all the smart people eat their for lunch. Stopped in here for a real quick lunch on a weekday, around 2p.m.. It wasn't busy when my group came in but a line formed right away after us. I got just a Sundried tomato Bagel. I couldn't really get the "Sundried Tomato" taste when I ate it and I'd say it was just "ok". The honey mustard on the Bacon and Turkey Bagel Sandwich was pretty good. I wasn't the biggest fan of the strong celery taste in the Chicken Salad Sandwich, but it was bad. The place is clean and has plenty of seating but isn't anything special. read more

I've been here three times for lunch and I absolutely love it. Their Italian Wedding soup is amazing, their sandwiches are great, and their staff is always friendly and patient. I decided to call ahead and order the turkey bacon club sandwich. I arrived about 15 mins after I placed my order and stood in the "order pickup" line for awhile until I saw 3 people who came in after me pick up their orders. I then asked the woman behind the register (SANDY) if my order was ready. She proceeds to tell me with an attitude "yes it's been ready. You have to say something, we don't know who you are", then yells "BYE" as I walk out the door. If you can walk into a business and stand there for almost 10 minutes, and not a single employee cares enough to ask "can I help you?", or "have you ordered?", I'll take my business elsewhere, because it's really not that hard to be polite... read more

One of my favorite places to eat in Los Alamos! The bagels are fresh and soft. There can be a bit of a line at popular times (including week day lunches) but it's worth the wait! Many of the bagels are vegan, and they have hummus and avocado as toppings. The Tuesday special is also a vegan wrap! read more

When My wife and I go to Los Alamos we often go to Ruby K's for lunch. Stopped in on Monday, 10/5/2020 and picked up a sandwich and cup of soup to go. When we got back home we discovered that the sandwich had to have been the first sandwich the preparer had ever made. Instead of using two good slices of bread, one slice was the heel of the loaf. The tuna was not spread across the bread, but was lumped on one corner and the two bread slices pressed together. Both the tuna and the soup were bland and lacked good taste. Will we go back? Maybe, but won't be anytime in the near future. What a shame, what a shame. read more

This place is busy on the weekdays for lunch. Lots of kids from the nearby high school come here for lunch along with the workers from the National Lab and Medical Center down the street. In summary, the sandwiches are clean tasting, but can be pricey for what you're getting. Orders: 1) Ruby K Classic Sandwich ($10): turkey, ham and roast beef on sourdough with lettuce, tomatoes and a chipotle sauce, decent sized portion if you get the whole sandwich 2) Green Chilli Stew ($4): small amount when served in the cup, tastey and goes well with the sandwich 3) Roast beef with Cheddar ($9): disappointing, very little meat and all bread, literally its 4 slices of roast beef, a slice of cheddar cheese, and some red-onion slices with mayonaise. 4) Fruit Smoothies: Two-to-tango and the Strawberry with Coconut (both are very tastey, but are made from juice and ice - no actual fresh fruit used) read more

I LOVE THIS PLACE! I am a Vegetarian and can find many many options here! Their Bagels and homemade cream cheese are a filling treat any time of day and their sandwiches are delicious. I always find the restaurant clean and inviting, and the staff well trained and pleasant. I have visited during the lunch hour and while they get busy, the seem to have LOTS of help behind the counter and a good system to get everything our quickly. Their coffee is delicious. read more

The best and, as far as I know, the only place for genuine water bagels in NM. Water refers to the two-step process in which bagels are put in boiling water prior to baking. This gives them the ineffable chewy outside and heavenly inside. As a transplanted Manhattanite, Ruby K is a necessary supplier. As good as H&H, seriously. The bagels freeze well if individually wrapped in waxed paper. read more

Food poisoning! When we walked in (myself and two co-workers from out of town) we were pleasantly surprised. There were a lot of menu options, a good atmosphere, and nice looking cafe. Our food was prepared quickly and tasted great. Unfortunately, kitchen cleanliness and responsible food preparation outweigh how nice a place seems. I got horrible food poisoning later that night, as did one of my coworkers. We are sure it was this restaurant because it was the only meal we shared in common. The 3rd coworker also wasn't feeling well later, but not as bad off as us. We all had different meals. Based on that, I wouldn't be surprised if dozens more people had food poisoning from eating there at the time we did. read more

The good: The bagels are great (Edit: ok, I'm from New Mexico. If you're from somewhere with real bagels, you'll disagree with me. Sorry?). The service is frequently good, and that's in a town which has crap service in general. A lot of the sandwiches and lunchy stuff are good. The bad: For anything other than a bagel, they're pricey. The whole town is, but still. Their coffee is mediocre even though they seem to pride themselves on it. The ugly: Their slogan. "Bagels so yummy, you have to eat the hole thing"? Ow! It's not amazing food, but it's a decent breakfast for a reasonable price, and they're nice and fast. Expect it to be busy (and thus slower) during the lunch rush. read more

Ruby K's is a little deli style bagel stop. The menu offers a nice variety, and the service is quick. The only drawback is the it is very pricey for a bagel. A much, much better green chili/ cheese bagel is available at Smith's for 59 cents. read more

They didn't bother to toast the bagel for the bagel sandwich, and the bagel was already a little undercooked to begin with. Some other strange choices with the menu: sides included with your sandwich can be big chunks of raw broccoli or bagel chips, both of which veg for some kind of dip. read more

Great, fresh bagels (spinach bagel is my go-to) with a variety of cream cheese/spread options. I've tried a couple sandwiches, flavors of bagels, etc and I've never been disappointed. With limited choice in Los Alamos, this is a great breakfast and lunch spot, and the only place for bagels. Located right next to a starbucks (if that's your thing), Ruby K's is a great little locally owned restaurant. Local art or photography on the walls and all you can drink drinks (soda and coffee). I was at Ruby K's for the first time six months ago and the bagels were properly made -- boiled, fully baked. A relief to have good Jewish bagels somewhere near Santa Fe. I returned to Ruby K's about two weeks (May, 2019) and the bagels were TERRIBLE. They were no longer authentic. They might as well have come from Albertson's. Clearly they had never been boiled, they were underbaked and over half of the dozen that we bought didn't even have a hole in the center. We came all the way from Santa Fe for bagels and were disgusted at the reduction in quality and quality control. Management needs to take a good, hard look at what they're doing wrong. Go visit Einstein's in Albuquerque and they'll show you how it's done. read more

The owner is very nice but I am afraid I cannot say the same for the staff. I ordered the grilled cheese panini and received a huge piece of ham right in the middle of it. Most people might be excited at this news but I am a vegetarian and it made me sick. One of the best places to eat in a town of crappy food but that is not saying much. Was looking forward to a good sandwich, especially for the price you pay. Very disappointing. I had the cashew chicken sandwich, more like a lettuce sandwich with a bit of chicken salad, which was flavorless. The bread was so crumbly, I had to get a fork to eat any of it. Eventually gave up and ate the lettuce and chicken salad. My husband had the bagel dog and was not impressed with the flavor of the glorified hot dog. Again, if you are going to pay higher prices than a chain restaurant, you would expect better. Also, the tables to choose to eat at were all dirty. No one to come around and clean them or empty trash. Will stick with Subway down the street - better price and more meat on the sandwich. read more

I would rename this the "Good Enough Cafe". Had to come to Los Alamos for work and was starving for breakfast when I got here. There was no wireless signal, so I couldn't Yelp to find a place and just stumbled on this place. It was crowded, so I figured it must be ok. Well, this is small town business at its finest. When you have little competition, you can get away with mediocre. I ordered the Sunrise bagel sandwich hoping for a delicious toasted everything bagel with fresh eggs and cheddar. I even asked if the bagel was toasted and was told that it was. Well, what I got was a sandwich with a prefab egg round on a soggy bagel, because clearly they just put the sandwich together a microwave to heat. So disappointing. Would definitely not recommend. I now have a signal and see that there's another cafe down the street with 4 stars that has to be better than this. I think I'll try Daniel's for lunch and see how they rate. read more

Good bagel, nice vibe, reasonable price.

Ruby K is a nice spunky change of pace for an otherwise pretty serious little government-built town. The service is really friendly and uncomplicated, the decor is new-agey and cute. It's a nice place to go to if you need to unwind a bit. I tried their apple turnovers, which are quite delicious (the filling could be a little less goopy, but their mille feuille is excellent). Their bagels are, well, over-yeasted and underbaked, but I've had far worse. As they say, Ruby K's, best bagel in Los Alamos...Ruby K's only bagel in Los Alamos! Frankly, the place can be a bit pricey for what you get; $13.50 for a sandwich and a smoothie may as well be New York prices. Still, it's a very centrally located cute little locally owned place, so that counts for a lot in my book. One note: they close a 4pm daily, so you're well-served to grab your coffee and desert early in the day. read more

I'm lactose intolerant. I've tried so many times to order here, asking the workers to leave off the cheese. I even have them repeat this to me. THEY STILL LEAVE THE CHEESE ON. Because the service takes forever, I have have to wait another 20-30 minutes to receive my correct order. The food is over-priced. Skip this place unless you're desperate. read more
