Ruby Red's BBQ in La Habra is definitely an experience. The Western/saloon décor is awesome -- chandeliers, old-school decorations, the bar... there's something to look at everywhere. You can tell a lot of thought went into making this place different. The BBQ itself, per usual, was fairly dry. The flavor is there, but I'd love to see the meats come out a little more tender and juicy. The SIDES though!!! BOMB. The corn and bean combo was easily my favorite. And then came the fresh-baked cookies... way better than Crumbl. I said what I said. I also really liked seeing the note from the owners, Steve and Tammy. They explain that they smoke their meats for 16 hours, make their sides, sauces and desserts from scratch, and don't use preservatives, additives, fillers or nitrites. Steve even puts his own number there and asks customers to reach out with suggestions. Whether everything comes out perfect or not, you have to respect owners willing to put their name and number right there and actually ask for feedback. And shoutout to the bartender! I forgot his name, but he usually works the late afternoon/night shift. That dude is awesome. Friendly, attentive and makes you want to hang around for another beer. Then there's Connie. She's apparently a regular. If you see her, you have two options: avoid eye contact... or clear your schedule. If you love conversation, you just found your new best friend. Overall: awesome atmosphere, bomb sides, ridiculous cookies, great bartender, and owners who clearly care about what they're building. Just get that BBQ a little juicier and we're in business!

Another amazing experience. Had breakfast there today with my family. The beef brisket Benedict was the best Benedict I've ever had. We shared the pancake trio too. Sooo decadent. Hubby had the pastrami Benedict. I tasted a bite of the pastrami, never had better. We celebrated 2 birthdays. Beignets on the house. We texted the owner, telling him how much we loved it and he immediately responded. This place is a hidden gem.

Ruby Red's BBQ is such a gem! This was my first time coming with the family and we were so impressed with the quality of the food, service and ambiance! I ordered 2-2 Meat Combos at $46.99 each. I adjusted the number of ribs in the order for a full rack on each order, which was an $14.99 per order. We also ordered the brisket in both combos. We had 7 people in our party and the amount of food was just right, with a few ribs to take home. The sides that we ordered were: Mac and Cheese, Brisket Beans, Chuckwagon Chili, and Salt Potatoes. We also ordered 3 cornbread muffins on the side to share. The brisket is a 10/10!!! So tender, juicy and perfectly seasoned! The ribs were also delicious but a tad spicy for me. The meats were so good just with the rub! All the sides were yummy but the standouts were the corn bread muffin with the maple butter! Kevin was our waiter-attentive, fast and funny! I love that Ruby Red's BBQ was so understanding about our family's nut and seafood allergies!! When I made the reservation online, they had a list of about 20 allergens that I could let them be aware of! Kudos to them for being so careful!! One other standout was they gave our table a complimentary order of beignets to celebrate my daughter's birthday. Such a nice touch!

This place is an unexpected gem hidden in a busy shopping center. I love the interior decor. It felt like being at Knott's or Disneyland with how detailed and immersive it was. There was a wait when we came in for Sunday lunch/brunch but the hostess and our server were very nice and attentive. The food came in big portions and was very delicious. They have a softer fluffier waffle which I enjoyed a lot but may not be ideal if you prefer crunchier or Belgian style waffle. I specifically came for the biscuits and gravy as this is the specialty dish that I rate for every breakfast restaurant. To start off, visually this is a very chunky biscuits and gravy. It is not the prettiest but those chunks of sausage really made the gravy standout. Surprisingly it was not dry despite how chunky it was. As for the biscuits, I would not say that they were your traditional biscuit. They did not have the crumbly flakiness of your traditional southern biscuits. They were more like a corn bread. However, their biscuit bread did have great flavor and softness. The bread was sweet but it balanced really well with the savory sausage gravy. Overall these biscuits and gravy are a 9/10. Only taking off a point because the biscuits were not traditional but still a very delicious dish.

Went for my birthday because I was craving some classic American barbecue. The meat here was so good. The quality of the cuts and the seasoning and flavor were perfect! The brisket was sooo tender and the waitstaff was very attentive and kind. Inside is super warm and decorated. I definitely will come back. 10/10 would recommend!

Oh my god! The food was so delicious, went early so it wasn't busy at all and service was good. The actual restaurant itself is so cute and cozy, reminds me of red dead redemption, mismatched chairs and cool chandeliers. Got some breakfast items. Second time here, from decor to the meat is fire . Service is good too. Both times there was a full house but no wait. So I can't truly call it a hidden gem even though it seems like it. Definitely a good place for a date or bday celebration. Need I say I'll be back?

Service was fine, ambiance was fine. The food was just not good. It wasn't terrible, by any means, it just wasn't good. The meats were under seasoned, the brisket was not juicy, the chicken breast came out dry and lukewarm, at best. The food did not taste fresh whatsoever. The only redeeming factor was the smoked sausage was quite good.

We had a group of 10 for our belated "holiday" dinner celebration at Ruby Red recently. Food was great, we ordered the "feast" and the accompanying sides. Our server Amanda was great and very helpful! The protein portion of our meal was very generous but "made from scratch" sides were much smaller for the amount of people at our table. One of our friends had been to Ruby Red several times and recommended this place to our group. I loved the salon ambiance there and thought it was befitting to the Ghost Town area of Knott's Berry Farm. Overall it was a satisfying visit. Looking for to my next visit here!

Great BBQ spot right in our backyard!!! Owner of the restaurant helped us out. It was surprisingly busy for a Thursday afternoon. We ordered the following: Shared a 2 meat combo with the Mrs. We opted for double Brisket sides of Mac & Cheese and a potato salad. $46.99. Ian wanted Brisket so he got himself a Texan Sandwich with Waffle Fries as his side. $23.99. Brisket was delicious! It was soo juicy, tender and melt in our mouth!! (+1) Ian devoured his Brisket sandwich. He was a teenager on a mission. Haha. (+1) Peach cobbler was decadent. Mrs. and I loved the fresh fruit in the dish! (+1) Mac & Cheese tastes home made and hearty. Potato Salad was light and savory. Price might appear a tad bit high BUT the portion, flavor and taste make it worth it! All and all it was a great lunch! We will be back. You guys should definitely try this restaurant out.

Food was alright but not worth the price, the Ribs are dry and cold and all the different barbecue sauces taste like vinegar. You're better off just going to Lucille's. They also took very long for the food and the restaurant was empty. But the the staff was nice and also their cookies, mac, and fries are the only thing that's good. read more

Great atmosphere, friendly staff, everyone is so nice and helpful when you're undecided on what to order. I highly recommend the 1/4 size of everything-which would be the sample size. We ordered 1/4 size of all meats & it was perfect to split between 4 people. All of the sides were delicious & the cookies are to die for! If you're in the mood for a sandwich, the Reuben is fantastic! If you're looking for a laid- back, cool place to get some very delicious barbecue this is your place! read more

Disappointed. They are out of chicken, out of ribs, and their website menu and picture shows 3 sliders, they are sold individually . Should change the word from sliders to one slider! Also, waited at the to go counter for over 8 minutes until I had to call the attention of someone behind the counter to get some help! I also overheard the waiter tell another waiter to go help a family at a table that had been waiting for a while. Their service is poor. So far negative vibes. Let's see how the food goes! After ordering and waiting for about 30 minutes, waitress comes out to tell me they are out of macaroni and cheese. BS I will never come back to a place that "runs out of food because they had a cook off yesterday"! Should have planned for the event and to keep items on the menu going for today. Very very dissatisfied! read more

This was our first time eating at Rubby Red's and it was absolutely delicious! we had the platter with Mac and cheese and everything was on point with flavor and tenderness. There comes a time in everyone's life when you realize what's truly important. Loving family, cherished friends, and the Ruby Red's off of West Imperial in La Habra. Ruby Red's is so good!! our server, Amanda, is awesome :) very attentive and helpful with giving us info and recommendations about the food (portions, sauces, fan favs, etc). she was really fun to talk to and provided excellent service! The food was really delicious-- the meat was tender and the sauce was really good, and I love the corn bread with maple syrup more than I love most people. I had never been here before, but wanted to try it. The inside is so cute and you forget where you're at in the best way. Gives off that Nashville saloon vibe and I love it. The food was very good. We got the fried pickles (some of the best I've had), the Texan and the sweet pig sandwiches. They were very good, just didn't love that the prices were around $15 and you didn't get a side included, but I totally can tell how fresh the food is. Service was great! Very authentic BBQ! I came here this weekend with my family and we absolutely loved it! The brisket was DELICIOUS and so flavorful! I personally loved the cream corn, I had to order another one bc of how good it was! My dad got a Cobb salad and said it was delicious as well. We also got corn bread, Mac and cheese, and coleslaw for the table! Everything was great and I will one hundred percent be returning! Ruby Red's BBQ left a truly sour taste in our mouths tonight. We arrived around 7 PM and were told the wait would be approximately 20 minutes. Fast forward to 7:38 PM, and another group was informed they were next in line, with the excuse that the kitchen was backed up and they didn't want to seat people without food ready. The fact that numerous patrons were standing around suggests their preference was for us to stand for an hour rather than offer even a semblance of hospitality by seating us and perhaps offering a drink. To add insult to injury, our group was completely ignored during this explanation to the other party. That other group was finally seated around 7:48 PM, and we were supposedly next. Then, at a staggering 7:55 PM - after a full 55 minutes of waiting - an employee emerged to inform us that they only had one rack of ribs left and no other meat options. My husband understandably exclaimed, "We've been waiting for 50 minutes?!" to which the employee simply replied, "Yeah, sorry guys." The handling of this situation was abysmal. Basic hospitality dictates that when a significant error like this occurs, an establishment should attempt to rectify it. A simple "We sincerely apologize for the extended wait and our kitchen issues; please accept a complimentary appetizer/drink/future discount" would have gone a long way. Instead, we were met with a dismissive "sorry." Furthermore, the lack of inventory awareness is baffling. How does a BBQ restaurant not know the quantity of their main offerings? Knowing they were running low on food, especially after experiencing kitchen delays, should have prompted them to inform waiting customers much earlier. This would have saved everyone valuable time and prevented the immense frustration we experienced. Based solely on this shocking lack of service and basic operational awareness, I cannot recommend Ruby Red's BBQ. There are plenty of other establishments in the area that understand the importance of customer service and efficient management. Save yourself the wasted time and disappointment. read more

wow, it is hard to describe the magnificence of Ruby Red's bbq. i came in tonight with my family and we were visiting from Arizona and for a friday night I cannot believe the place was not slam packed with a line out the door. RUN AND TRY IT!!!! my family ordered some of the bbq sandwiches which were huge! only sad thing was, they don't come with a side, but sometimes I can be cheap haha. everything else was amazing!!! decor is beautiful! Gwen was our server, and she is the best of the best. Seriously, I have never met any server who has been as kind and thoughtful as Gwen. She made the experience top notch and my kids LOVED her. she is EXCELLENT. She was super funny and sweet, and we never had to call for her because she was so attentive. My husband and I were shocked when we asked if she was the manager and she said no and we asked if her parents owned the place and she said no but some friends from church did. what an awesome establishment and a great young woman. The interior of the restaurant is very cool, definitely channeling an old Western saloon environment. It features beautiful dark wood, an old Western-style chandelier, and high ceilings that give the place a spacious yet rustic vibe. The inside is just really cool to look at while you eat. On top of that, the service was very nice, and the servers were all very cute and attentive. For my meal, I ordered the beef brisket sandwich, which came with one side. The flavor of the beef brisket was good, but the meat itself was actually kind of dry. I tend to prefer a much more moist brisket, so that was the only real letdown of the food. The restaurant is located in a huge shopping center surrounded by grocery stores and other restaurants. Because the parking lot is shared amongst all the different businesses in the area, finding a spot can be a total hit-or-miss depending on the time of day you visit. I was able to go to a soft opening. Wow, this place is AMAZING! The brisket was tender and juicy, and the ribs were just the right amount of pull-off-the-bone delicious. The sides we tried were wonderful -- the cornbread had an excellent consistency, especially paired with the maple butter. The macaroni salad had enough little veggies in it to keep it interesting, and the cole slaw was actually better than anything the Colonel ever dreamt of. Even the desserts were delicious. We ordered the chicken and waffles, and the breakfast burrito. The breakfast burrito was fine, and was a generous size; the salsa that came with it just tasted like a chipotle cholula. The chicken and waffles really did blow me away though. The chicken strips were so flavorful, and worked with both the syrup and the white gravy that they provide; only downside was that the chicken was a little stringy and chewy for my taste. When you are sat down, they bring you a bottle of water so that you can pour yourself the water. After that, no one really checks in on you. Which is a bit of an issue, since we did run out of water by the time we were done with the food. And if you wanted to order more food afterwards, you're kind of out of luck. And you tip at the counter before you even sit down? Just a bit illogical from a consumer perspective. Maybe it's because I came a little earlier in the morning, but it was pretty quiet atmosphere, in a good way. It had enough people where it wasn't an awkward silence, but not so loud that you'd have to raise your voice to communicate across the table. My biggest issue is with the prices here. $17 for a burrito, $19 for the chicken and waffles. And this is before tax/tip, for an establishment where their only job is to bring you the food, without really checking up on you afterwards. Menu prices just seemed a little steep, considering that they're not operating with the same amount of service as a full sit-down restaurant experience. I'd come back, but I'd have to be seriously craving the food before willingly paying these prices again.
