I really really really enjoy coming here. The staff is always consistently kind and very helpful. There is lots of seating inside if you want to sit, very lowkey and cozy. This is an appreciation post and review... I moved away from the Whittier/La Habra area a few months ago and I have yet to find a Hawaiian BBQ place as good as Orange. I miss it so much! Spam Musubi, Chicken Katsu, and short ribs were my favorite dishes and always served with Mac salad and rice... their spicy bbq sauce on all of their items is the best! The friendly staff always seemed appreciative of my business and I loved how they were a small business (not like Ono or Ohana chains). Pretty good place. I will say a bit pricey but you do get a good amount of food. I will say I didn't see a difference in size from when my boyfriend got a large and I got the smaller size besides how many options. My husband ordered from Orange Hawaiian BBQ through Uber Eats, and unfortunately, the food was extremely disappointing. The chicken was super dry and tasted old, while the BBQ meat was bland and had a strange flavor -- it honestly seemed like food that had been sitting around for a couple of days and just reheated. Or, the meat was starting to go spoiled and the workers decided to throw it on the grill to cook. I didn't want to risk getting sick, especially since I'm pregnant, so unfortunately, it all went straight to the trash. If I had been dining in, I would have definitely brought this up to the staff. I was craving Hawaiian food, so I ended up coming here on my way back home. I got their Half and Half Bowl with Mahi Mahi Katsu, BBQ chicken, cabbage, mac salad, and rice. When I opened the bowl, first thing I noticed was the uneven portion size. There was a lot of diced up BBQ chicken pieces, few pieces of the Mahi Mahi katsu, and a large bed of sliced up raw cabbages. I'm so used to getting steamed cabbages from other Hawaiian places, so it kind of caught me off guard. I regretted getting the Mahi Mahi katsu because it was so dry and hard. I was expecting it to be crispy on the outside and not have a texture of it being reheated, fried over and over again. BBQ chicken was okay. Macaroni salad is my favorite side to get at these restaurants, so it was pretty disappointing when it was bland and lacking in flavor. Whenever I feel like comforting food for a good price, I'll make the quick trip to Orange Hawaiian BBQ. It is such a small spot and easy to miss, very much a hole in the wall kind of place. The workers there always have a smile on their faces, but sometimes when picking food up it might feel a little awkward. The one thing I love about this place is the portions that they give. Today was our first time at Orange Hawaiian bbq, and honestly the only reason why we decided to come is because we went to the UPS store first. Upon first walking in, we noticed it looked a little lonely. I'm not sure if it just wasn't the best hour for them or maybe because it was a weekday but it seemed slow for them upon entering, but the longer we stayed the more I saw people getting "to go" orders. We ordered, and the lady up front was incredibly kind! She was warm and greeted us with a smile. We were going to eat at home, but my husband was starving so we decided to eat here. When I asked for a couple of things to eat inside, they kindly assisted. Together, we got the "create your own combo" with katsu chicken, steak, 2 scoops of rice, one of mac and added an extra side of mac and a spam musubi. It was more than enough for both of us. My husband is a huge Hawaiian BBQ aficionado and he loves Ono, but he mentioned this one was even better (which he hasn't said about any others). The fact that it's local is a huge plus. Overall, I'm so glad we tried it. I very much wish this place could reach the radar of other people, since the owners are so wonderful. If you have a chance, check it out!! read more

This is one of my absolute favorite places to eat out here, after 194 Eatery. Orange Hawaiian BBQ is definitely a more authentic Hawaiian BBQ than most places. My favorite thing to get here is the Half and Half bowl with Lava Chicken and Spicy Pork. It comes with 3 scoops of your choice of rice or macaroni salad (mix and match). I usually get two scoops of mac salad because it's authentic and bomb Hawaiian mac salad. The lava chicken is spicy, but not overwhelming. If you don't regularly eat spicy food, this chicken is very tolerable. The chicken has a smokey charred (in a good way) flavor, and the bbq lava sauce is delicious. I usually add extra bbq lava sauce. The spicy pork is also very delicious. It's thinly sliced, tender with a smoky flavor. It's so tender, you would almost think you were eating beef, if you didn't know it was pork. This pork also isn't very spicy, it has just enough kick to give it flavor, but it won't burn your mouth to where you can't enjoy your meal. Aside from the rice and/or mac salad, the spicy pork comes served in a small bed of shredded cabbage. I know this may sound odd to some of you out there as it first did to me, but the combination of the spicy pork and shredded cabbage mixes really well. It can even helps offset some of the spiciness of the pork, for those of you a little leery of spicy foods. I have also had their spam masubi here. It's some of the better spam masubi I've had. They serve it with a small layer of their bbq sauce, but don't worry, it's not like actual bbq sauce. The bbq sauce is more like a teriyaki rather than bbq, but it is delicious. The place is clean and the employees are very friendly. I love coming here for the delicious food and the amazingly friendly service. Love this place! read more

Food // Ordered a half and half bowl with BBQ beef and Lava Chicken. This bowl only comes in a large size, and it is a lot of food. You could easily share this bowl with someone (or eat it yourself like I did). The beef has a bulgogi like marinade to it, def more Korean flavor than Hawaiian BBQ flavor, but I am not hating on it. It was probably the best thing I had here! The Lava Chicken has a good spice level to it, and is a nice complimentary flavor to the sweet beef. The mac salad was a let down, but it does the job. Also got an order of Spam Musubi. Read the other comments, the slice of spam you get it so thin, that you can bite into it and miss it. I have only dined here twice (Loco Moco both times) and it's middling. I appreciate them making the beef patties from scratch - but the meat was DRY and tough. Not very appealing. Love this place! It's located in the Trader Joe's plaza and there's a good amount of parking. The workers are super nice. I usually just place a phone order and pick it up. Even for my order of 5 half and half bowls, the order was ready in about 15 mins. My favorites are the chicken katsu and kalbi ribs. For the half and half bowls you have choices of rice, mac salad, and spring mix. I always have to have rice and mac salad of course. They mac salad is one of my favs! So light and the flavors compliment the whole meal perfectly. You can always ask for some katsu sauce and spicy sauce while you're at the restaurant as well. Tore into my food and was pulling up mostly panko covered chicken skin pieces. I figured maybe I got a weak batch. I asked my son about his lunch and he said the pieces of chicken were very thin with very little meat. Come on Orange BBQ, why would you serve a customer such crap? If you're having financial difficulties, serving up chicken scraps is not going to help your business. On the contrary, I will never spend another penny in your restaurant.
