I was looking forward to trying out Ruby Sunshine. The menu looked appealing and had just the variety to accommodate different breakfast moods. I had the Southern Breakfast and my husband had the Florentine Omelet. We arrived at a nonpeak time during the week. When the food arrived, I noticed that my eggs were well done and not over easy. I was surprised the plate even got out of the kitchen. When I asked the wait staff if she would agree, one look and she knew it was not right. I was okay with getting 2 over easy eggs redone. It was the wait, particularly when the restaurant was near empty of customers. How long does it take to fry 2 eggs over easy??? My husband finish half of his meal in addition to the overdone eggs I had moved over to his plate. I was really trying to wait for my entire breakfast to be in front of me. I gave up waiting and ate my grits, ate half of my biscuit before my eggs were brought back. Two eggs over easy, no customers and never an effort to right the wrong. Couple of things were wrong, the latte machine wasn't working, the service was pretty bad, maybe because they were ready to go, we got there around 12:30-1pm and it took 45min before our food came out, the waitress seemed impatient and annoyed. The spot was nice and cute. Not enough parking sadly but im okay with walking. I gave a 3 cause the seasonal food was good. Apple pancakes and stuffed pumpkin french toast. Aside from that I can't say that I'd be back. Didn't get that southern hospitality feel and I'm from here. Food looked amazing! Unfortunately we sat for 25 minutes waiting on a table (was told 20 minute wait). Empty tables everywhere. Had 5 tables ahead of us. When I checked back after people walked in and got seated I was told there is 7 tables ahead of you. So I found out you sign in on-line and get seated ahead of walk ins. My roommate and I came here for a nice breakfast Saturday prior to our St. Patrick's day festivities. Upon arriving we were informed it would be a 5-10 minute wait to be seated. We ended up waiting a little longer but after this experience, I would've waited twice as long. My roommate had his dog with him so we sat on the covered patio - while a little small it is very nice. As noted, the patio is dog friendly and the server even offered a water bowl for the dog which was a nice gesture. Speaking of which the service was very good, and everyone was friendly from the host to our server. We ordered the beignets to share which were solid. For my main I ordered the Chicken St. Charles - fried chicken, poached egg, and a cream based pork sauce over house-made biscuits. This was delicious! I highly recommend ordering this if you choose to come. My roommate ordered the Sweet heat chicken and French toast bites. He said it was decent but probably would not order again. We left feeling very satisfied and surprisingly not too sluggish after the big meal. The food was amazing and our server was wonderful!! Julie was so sweet and caring, always checking up on us 10/10! However, when we first came up to the hostess stand, there were two women. One with blonde hair and another with brown hair. The blonde haired woman was very rude and acted snooty towards myself and my boyfriend. The other girl was incredibly sweet. The reason why: We did show up 4-5 min late to the yelp check in, I admitted that. I said it was ok if we were pushed down the list bc of us being late. The second girl said we were all good and the blonde woman said "well it will probably make you wait a LOT longer cuz you were late" The second girl said "well they're 8th in line so I think they're fine..." Would have been my second trip, but as we were seated near the front we witness the chef cough in his hands and continue to touch things like containers of condiments, glass cups, utensils. The server said he would tell him to wash his hands, but why would you even cough in your hands, then continue to touch things. Really gross. read more

I seek out restaurants with great reviews, fresh ingredients, great customer service and unique food dishes...becuz who wants to spend hard earned money on "ordinary" food. Guys/Ladies this place is the bomb.com, fire..whatever the lingo is now! Our waitress Sorelle had the best energy, she was friendly, knowledgeable on the menu and provided great customer service. I ordered a decaf Cappuccino and the manager Randy took the time to come over to our table and explain that they grind the espresso fresh and didn't have decaf. I opted for the regular Cappuccino and it had the perfect balance of robust espresso flavor, rich and creamy steamed milk/ foam. We ordered the Grilled fish St.Peter; grilled catfish smothered with a creole mustard hollandaise sauce, on top of a cheesy grit cake over a bed of spinach/halved cherry tomatoes and included a grilled shrimp skewer. The catfish and shrimp was cooked excellent, was moist, fresh and didn't taste like the bottom of the ocean. The grit cake was a large portion, crispy on the outside, flavorful and very cheesy (I'm not big on cheese so I couldn't finish it all). Hubby had the crawfish and grit cake w/over easy egg in instead of poached on top of bed of spinach. This dish comes smothered with a Louisiana crawfish cream sauce. Great flavor and portion. We topped off our wonderful meal by splitting a single portion of the peaches & cream pancakes. The pancakes were perfection...fluffy, crispy on the outside and moist in middle. The peach compote could easily be a pie filling or for peach cobbler...the whiskey caramel sauce great salty/sweet addition. You can tell that the chef cares about the food. This place is overrated and mediocre at best. Me and my homegirl went for brunch on a Saturday morning. My first issue is the LONG wait and they dont accept reservations. You can join the waitlist online but yo still have to check in with the host. Kinda gets tricky here.. Parking is VERYYYYY limited. They have a lot but it is small; and it was full when we went. So we had to park around the corner about halfway down the block. So after we checked in.. we waited in the car. There is a waiting section inside but its kinda small. We were told the wait is 1-2hrs. We waited an hr. We were seated at a very wobbly unstable table. So we moved to the table next to us. We ordered the Boozy Coffee for drinks. I didn't care for it the only thing i could taste is liquor. No coffee or vanilla flavor. It tasted like coffee flavored vodka pretty much. For starters we had the Seasonal Beignets (peaches and cream) I definitely could have done without these calories. They weren't hot or fresh. They were very dense and doughy. Not light and airy like you expect from a beignet. You could tell they had been sitting. The flavor was okay. Nothing to write home about. We also had the fried green tomatoes. I dont prefer them.. so to me they were just nasty. No real flavor. The bacon jam and remoulade kinda overpowered it. For meals.. I ordered the biscuits and gravy w/honey hot chicken and a side of grits. My friend got the BBQ shrimp and grits. The biscuits and gravy were mediocre as well. The biscuits were also very dense and thick. It wasnt served super hot. They gravy was okay. I expected more seeing as this is a NOLA based places. The grits were also mediocre. Not super creamy. Still kinda grainy. They were seasoned tho. I only added pepper. The honey hot chicken was really good. My friend also was not excited about her food. We didnt even get to go boxes. I only took away a star because the beignets here doesn't quite hit the same like they do in New Orleans. I did have brunch at The Ruby Slipper and it's a definite match when it comes to ordering The Trifecta and their signature Ruby mimosa.
