Alena is such an amazing server she made sure my dietary needs were met when ordering my meal. She provided me and my family with fast service. She never made me feel like I was inconveniencing her. Terrible service. We took our 3 children here for dinner on Saturday around 4:30. The restaurant wasn't even half full when we arrived. After being sat we waited a long time for a server to approach the table (10 minutes?). When Stephanie came up to our table the only words out of her mouth were "what do you want". We gave her our food and drink order right away because we'd already had so much time to decide. We got waters after a few minutes later but then waited a very long time for food. Unlike other Rubys the kids were not given the cardboard cars to fold and decorate. Our food was served except one meal which came many minutes later. Once done we had to flag the waitress to ask to order dessert. No one bussed any dirty dishes so we piled them up to make room for dessert which we again waited forever to get and we ended up taking to go. I don't expect a meal at Ruby's to last over an hour especially when dessert wasn't eaten in the restaurant. Not sure we'll be back after the terrible service. read more

We've been to several Ruby's around southern Orange County. It's usually the same food for the most part. The difference is always in the staff. Ruby's in Laguna Beach and the one in San Juan are big attractions after local school dances. The people going in to eat after the dance know it's going to be busy and take some time. They go because it's easy to get to, the food hits the spot after the dance and the parents feel comfortable letting their kids (12-14 year olds) be at a table without having to sit right next to them. Last night my daughter went in to sit with her friends that were already seated. The manager stopped her. 2 of her friends already joined to group. My daughter and her friend said they wanted to sit with that group or near them. This was early, so there were still tables open. The manager told her to go sit down. He would not allow them to sit in the waiting section but told them to stand by the window. He physically shoved my daughter over into the direction he wanted her to go. Since when do you physically move a 13 year old girl? This is unacceptable. We will find another after dance place to grab a bite. Maybe making the drive to San Juan would be a better way to go. read more

I had the American Kobe Sliders. Unlike a real slider, they were actually good! Someone needs to tell these folks that sliders are supposed to be barely edible globs of grease-meat that just slide down when you eat them. They even put them in King's Hawaiian Rolls (which are yummylicious on their own). For shame, Ruby's, for making them edible and good! The fries that came with the sliders were blah, but the service was good and so was the dessert (an Oreo shake). read more

Our family ate here several times three years ago and now, on this trip to Laguna, three more times. The food and service have declined considerably since our last trip. My husband and I ordered our burgers without a bun. When they arrived, you had to search for the meat among the see-through, wilted lettuce. The cheese was hardly melted. My side wedge salad was room temperature and the lettuce looked like what you would find at a discount grocery store. Ugh. My son had breakfast for dinner. The eggs were dry. My daughter ordered a turkey sandwich and the meat was so dry you couldn't swallow it without water. Nevertheless, since it's across the street from where we stay, we went back. Husband had an omelette. It was overlooked. Potatoes were cooked to the point of being dry. My daughter's grilled cheese had unmelted cheese inside. I had to send it back. The ketchup bottle the waitress brought was nearly empty. I asked for another one because there were eight of us and after three people having a squirt, it was empty. The waitress brought a second bottle, also nearly empty. When I told her it was also nearly empty, she merely smiled. Disappointing, especially because with young kids, there are not too many places between fast food and really nice restaurants in Laguna. This place would fit the bill. Ordered a Bacon Swiss Burger to go... meat had no taste at all... I mean nothing... no taste at all. The Bacon stunk also... gave it to the dog. Ruby's used to be so good. We just had a late breakfast there. Our waiter looked like he just got out of bed, unshaven and needed a shower. The food was horrible. I had an omelet that tasted like old grease. I tied to explain this to a clueless manager who will never get it. The restaurant is very unkept and could use a paint job, but I don't think they would get that either. Don't go to Ruby's, it's not the same. read more

This is my fav place for burgers! Their extra large burger with blue cheese is the best I've ever tried in LA area. Their fries are always fresh, not oily and they do free refills. What I love most is the vintage vibe in this diner and the ocean is just in front. We always drive from LA to Laguna and always their service is outstanding! Highly recommended read more

We normally love Ruby's...we went there with a large group, 8 of us. One of us had onion rings and after asking the waitress she said that onion rings were refillable. Afterwards when we received the check, they said they weren't and we were slammed with 8 bucks for "a side of onion rings" we thought were included. The man refused to remove it and said they charge that. We were upset we were told the wrong information and CHARGED for that wrong doing on their part. At least right your wrong or fix your mistake. read more

THE WORST RUBY'S DINER, EVERYTIME. Don't know what's going on with this location, must be poorly managed, but every time I come here it's horrible. I'm local. Lived in Laguna for years. I own a business in laguna. I've given this place so many chances to surprise me but it's never happened. Cold fries. Cold food. Melted shakes. EVERY TIME. Not a manager in sight. They must be sitting in the office watching Netflix. Being in marketing it's not hard to see that at least some of these 5 star reviews are paid for. BE ADVISED. STAY AWAY....think I might try one more time, just to take some pictures of what they pass as food here. read more

The food was typical Ruby's food other then the green bean appetizer tasted fresher then ever before. The staff was not as bubbly and energetic as I am used to for a Ruby's but over all it was mostly ok. Definitely wouldn't go out of my way to visit even if I lived in the area. read more

Loved it! A cute diner on the Coast Highway in South Laguna Beach. Our front, old 1950's cars are parked on the sidewalk which gives you the feel of the old diner. Inside, it's metal and red everywhere with a black and white checked floor. Their onion rings ROCK! While not typical diner fare, Ruby's Apple, Pecan & Blue Cheese Salad hit the spot. There was just enough pecans and blue cheese to make for a tasty treat. The burgers are HUGE and come with "refillable" fries if you like. Red plate special was American Kobe Chopped Steak with an odd side of what we think was kinda like a twice bakes potatoe without the skin ... odd, but tasty nontheless. Bummer on the fish tacos though ... fried and served with flour tortillas ... come on now, flour? At any rate, we'd return for lunch again. read more

Absolutely delicious Kobe Beef burgers. We tried the Portabello Provolone and the All American Burger and they were some of the best burgers we've ever had. Also, staff was friendly and upbeat, service was quick, and the decor and feel of the place is great. Definetely a great experience. read more

Me and my buddy were able to get away and spend a day by the beach. Around lunch time we got really hungry and decided to grab a burger. We've been to this location before, but our server made the experience that much better. Trent was very knowledgable in the food items and had an extremely positive attitude. You can tell he genuinely enjoyed his job and life in general. Trent literally made our experience twice as better. He was very attentive to our needs and I still find it amazing what a genuinely positive attitude can do. Before I finish this review I want to say that the food was as delicious as usual. I had the hickory burger, Cajun fries, all with a cookies n' cream shake. Doesn't get any better than that! I will definitely be coming back to this Ruby's. It is soon becoming my favorite location. Myself and my sister visited Rubys for the first time the food was great, waitress was awesome. We felt like we had stepped back into the 1940's unfortunately it was not because of the Décor or the atmosphere they try to portray. But in the way we were treated. We were seated in the very back of the restaurant and watched as several other guest got seated in a section towards the front. When we questioned a employee about it she told us that it was due to a seating rotation they had. I would be okay with that but as stated we watched serval other parties being seated. I would assume that the "rotation " would in doubt rotate eventually. I asked for a manager and after a minute or so he came over and introduced himself and Kent. (While we waited finally a group of young men were seated in our area.) which I believe is because we asked about it. He stated that he was told we wanted to speak to him and he "came right over" which in fact was incorrect because I watched as an employee filled him in as he stood in the doorway and he turned around and walked away (he didn't know I could see him from where we sat). I kindly stated my concern and he began to talk about the "rotation" again I would understand the "rotation" but it didn't really make sense because our waitress was serving tables in the section everyone else was sitting in. His excuse about the rotation was that they wanted it to be fair for everyone. When we asked if that was our waitress area he said yes but made up a excuse (forgive me for not recalling) he was very condescending and I couldn't get a word in edgewise. He stated that "he could see how this looks" but that's would never happen on his watch. Either way you put if it was a "race" issue or not we should be able to enter into an establishment and feel comfortable and welcomed. Neither one of us felt that way we felt isolated and singled out. And pushed over when we expressed our concerns. I'm saddened that we choose Rubys over other restaurants that we had in mind. We drove over an hour just to go you that restaurant and sad to say my experience was a huge let down. read more

The service was awful. People who came quite a bit later than us got their drinks and appetizers long before we had to ask about ours. The on duty manager was even a tad strange. We cancelled our orders and left because it ended up being so bad. We never really have to do that. We don't like to give bad reviews but there is nothing Good to say about this place with such a great location. read more

Very poor service! My friend and I waited over an hour for a food and thirty minutes to get a shake which is particularly ridiculous since we were the first of only 4 tables in the whole diner (with two waitresses) and were the last to be served. Such a Shame! Will not be returning :/ read more

I have eaten at many Rubys, and I am usually happy. Not this time. It was busy Sunday night, so my family of 4 sat at the counter. That was apparently a big mistake. Service was awful the person that took our order, we never saw them again until i was at the register asking to pay. I ordered the Cobb burger, I noticed a big burger sitting waiting to be delivered , I asked a passing server what it was he said a "cobb burger" . I thought, great that is what i am getting. About 15 minutes passed with it sitting there , when I see a random server grab that very dish and bring it to me . It was mine all along. It was cold, all of it, fries & burger all of it. We had to grab a passing waitress for setups , grab someone else for ketchup. the manager had come up just as the food was delivered to see if everything was alright, I said, "I did not know yet". Some other random server came up when I was half way done and brought me some ketchup, asked "how is it ". I told him it came was cold , he offered to get me another I told him, "I would power through" , Because I did not want to wait any longer. He did not share my dissatisfaction with anyone apparently. I could go on, and on about what they didn't do . I am giving it 2 stars because some of my family's food was not awful. But to make a long story short . BAD BAD SERVICE . I've been to this Ruby's countless times and every visit it has been nothing short of perfect. There are two waiters/waitresses who stand out, Jesus and Denise. They're always so friendly and quick. All of the food is always brought out in probably 10-15 minutes and is perfectly warm. They offer great flavored iced teas and lemonades too, and they don't charge for refills. Ruby's also has bottomless fries and will give you your drink in a cup to go so you really get your money's worth. The shakes are AMAZING and they have so many varieties. This Ruby's is always amazing and I highy recommend it. read more

I came to Ruby's with some friends to order a nice dinner, and it was absolutely horrible. We asked to split the check 4 ways, a simple request I must add, and the manager started acting belligerent. I was appalled! Then, we asked to move downstairs and we just separated to two separate tables, since it was such a big deal to split checks when we're at the same table, and the manager threatened to kick us out! The manager was so rude, and the service was terrible. They messed up all of our orders and had a horrible attitude. Never brought us the ranch, we asked seven times, seven different people. Not one person brought us something so simple. Just shows how neglecting the service is towards the customers. The waiters/hosts are so judgemental, snobby, and entitled, and kept giving my children and I dirty looks. The workers also would make fun of us and start laughing at us afterwards. If you want to have the worst experience, and waste your money perfect place to come! read more

Ruby's dinner was a really great experience and we could not recommend it more. The feel and atmosphere was great. Our waitress was brilliant, sensitive to the needs of our children and she was really helpful. The service and food and especially the chocolate shake were what we as Australian tourists had dreamt about. read more

Disappointing service, cold fries and melting ice cream put a damper on what should have been a fun experience. I took my child here for a recent midweek late afternoon treat. It wasn't busy but the service was slow. Our server didn't give my child the usual Ruby's put-together activity (how could you forget something so basic) and it went downhill from there. My salad had the wrong dressing, the fries were cold--a sure sign my child's order had been sitting awhile--and while we went to the restroom to wash hands, all of our water and utensils had been cleared off the table so we had to start all over again. The waiter didn't write things down so naturally, our ice cream orders (both of them) were wrong as well. I had to ask multiple times for a bowl but he didn't seem to understand or forgot so I flagged down someone else and got it from her. I had to get utensils from another table. We used to like this place but when you come in with a child, you expect fast, fun service and this wasn't even though it was nearly empty. read more

Usually go to the Ruby's at the Mission Viejo Mall but had family in town from Minnesota so we wanted to take them down to Laguna Beach for the day. Stopped in for breakfast. Friendly hostess sat us down right away. Server came over quickly and took our order without any issues. Here is where it all goes down hill. When they delivered our food, my bacon and eggs were cool at best. Then, when they brought over the syrup, the server dropped the entire cup all over my shirt and arms. She was very apologetic and embarrassed. The bus boy brought a wet towel over to wipe me down. Unfortunately, the Manager never came over to make sure everything was ok and see if he could do anything. Now being in the foodservice industry for over 23 years, the correct thing to do would be to take my meal off of the check. NOPE!! So cold food and poor customer service was the reason for the 2 stars. Probably won't go back to this location again. read more

I am so sad to write this review as my family loves Ruby's! This is in regards to a larger group and having confirmed coming in at a certain time. My daughter for her 16th birthday wanted to go to Ruby's Laguna and I started calling them two weeks in advance. I was going to have a set 11 people for dinner at 4:00 on a Sunday. I spoke to the MOD two weeks prior and had asked if we could sit up on the top patio and I mentioned I wanted to bring some balloons and small decorations in for the tables (nothing crazy). He said no problem and to call the Saturday before, when I spoke to another MOD on that Saturday, who said he would make a note and to call in before we came in on Sunday. I called in on Sunday and the same MOD from two weeks prior said no, he couldn't hold anything and I shouldn't come down early to decorate..here I had 11 people on the way and was told we would have to get in line and wait. Now don't get me wrong, I certainly understand on the weekend during the summer in Laguna it could be busy, but here they knew we had a definite 11 people coming in at 4 p.m. I could not have people sitting down at different times for her 16th birthday party so decided to go elsewhere. If the MOD had just told me upfront it wouldn't work out, I would have understood, but definitely felt led on. Truly disappointed. read more

the customer service here SUCKED!! my 3 other friends and i are 12,13,13, and im 14 and were walking around having a good day then decided to go to Rubys for a small lunch. we get there, get seated, and order as usual, we got our food in about 15-20 minutes which isnt that bad although we had to ask for our drinks which was very inconvenient! my friend which was 12 got a kids meal, which U have to be 11 to get. our waiters REFUSED to give her the drink because she didnt look 11! and asked to prove it by giving an ID! our experience was AWFUL! i was so tired if this guy i just wanted to go home! he also made us pay the FULL amount for the meal which was ridiculous! ive gotten kids meals for the longest time from after i was 11 and have had no problem! he gave us a hard time and was absolutely RUDE!! i have gone to several different Rubys in Orange County and have had no problem! but here they had flat out TERRIBLE customer service! read more
