Ruby's: An Old Classic Diner When you visit Ruby's Diner in Laguna Beach for the first time, you will know just how special it really is. Before you even enter the restaurant, parked outside of the front door you'll see four antique cars from the 50's that make you think you went back in time. Walking through the front doors into the restaurant feels as if you are walking into an old movie. One of the first things you notice after you enter is a small, old fashioned train by the ceiling that goes around the whole restaurant. You also quickly become aware that everything is red and white; the booths, the stools, the counters, even the waiters and waitresses uniforms. Vintage pictures line the walls with old Coca-Cola ads. The Ruby's in Laguna Beach also features an upstairs deck. There are stairs right next to the counter that take you to the top of the restaurant, which has an amazing view of the street and ocean. It is enjoyable to eat at a place that looks and feels different than other restaurants, but the real reason to go to Ruby's is the food. They are known for their burgers, fries and milkshakes, but even the healthiest eaters will find a favorite food on the menu. For instance, my mom enjoys the salads. I prefer the Classic Rubyburger with cheddar cheese, lettuce, tomatoes and their special sauce. They serve it in a red basket, just like they did in times gone by. You have your choice of a side such as onion rings, salad, regular or sweet potato fries. I always pick the regular French fries. They are delicious dipped in ketchup. And although I don't love salads, they have the best Ranch dressing in the world. It is made with buttermilk, which sounds disgusting, but is actually really good. I like to dip my fries in it when I get bored with ketchup. My favorite item on the Ruby's menu is a strawberry milkshake. It is so heavenly together with the burger and fries and is made with fresh strawberries. All the Ruby's milkshakes are made with real ice cream. There are so many milkshake choices that if you came in once a week and tried a different one each time it would take you almost half a year to sample all of them. Not only do they have different ice cream choices in addition to the traditional vanilla, chocolate and strawberry, but they also mix in candy bars, cookies and/or fruit to create different flavors. A big favorite in our house is the Oreo shake, made with, you guessed it, real Oreo cookies. Ruby's even takes special orders so if you wanted an Oreo and Strawberry shake, they'd make it for you. Ruby's Diner in Laguna is a family friendly place to go. Young kids and people young at heart all find something to enjoy. When I was younger I enjoyed watching the train and making a car out of the kid's menu. My grandpa always wanted to look at the old cars out front and would tell me that he had that kind of car when he was young. And my entire family was pleased with the food. There are not many places where teenagers, toddlers, parents and grandparents can happily come together but Ruby's Diner has somehow figured out how to do it. I was at this location today after spending the morning at a local beach. Stopped in about 12:30 grabbed lunch, only to watch an employee degrade a young customer that obviously also came in some time after we had ordered. She was a cute young woman with a friend or two,obviously coming in from from a beach. The young customer was wearing a CONSERVATIVE white beach coverup, over what appeared to be a one piece bathing suit( I say this only because the hostess was making such a fuss about " lack" of clothing). Your staff, which represents Rubys a , fun wholesome fast food type of restaurant treated this girl as if she were first of all "half naked" wait...NO...your staff member (Her name starts with a M' )stated she WAS half naked loud enough for myself and company to hear. Your customer was being shamed.FYI your employees wear shorter garments...This employee was nothing more than a bully. She told the customer , "she never seats half naked people" which if course drew all of my parties attention...we looked around for a half naked person, only to see a covered young lady being made into an issue!! We looked around , and what pissed us off when we observed other customers(couldn't help but notice)large breasts dangling over their fries, and other young women with shorts shorter than the coverup worn by the young woman, I guess eating my lunch across from exposed belly buttons, and exposed nipples are considered fully clothed at this location. This young woman was talked down too, and then... The nasty hostess placed her in a spot all the way in the back! Honestly... I,would have rather sat next to the young girl wearing a complete above the knee sun cover up, then near your employee talking rudely to her and about her! I'm a local, Rubys is usually a fun light hearted place I especially enjoy in the summer, however today's display of rudeness made me emotionally sick. I get the whole "OC" vibe and it usually caters to half naked women, your sad Stuck up , rude server thinking a job at RUBYS gives her the right to put others down, if it dose not please HER EYES! She clearly took advantage of a policy in place by management to keep the beach mess out. You may seriously want to reexamine the FRONT of the house staff... Rude,cold, cruel! read more

Classic Ruby's Diner look and feel with the addition of classic cars greeting you as you walk in. This location is 0-3 as each of the people in my party had something go wrong with their dish. My Eggs Benedict included avocados. Being they are in season and this is California-should be a safe bet....wrong my avocados had turned- brown and bruised. Gross. I asked for a replacement side of avocados and the server obliged, but brought me back another plate of brown avocados. He apologized and said all of their avocados must be bad. My sister began unrolling her silverware roll to find the inside of her napkin was totally and completely used and covered in food. The silverware was also used. My husband had to send his over-medium eggs back 2x because the whites were completely translucent. The manager finally stepped into the kitchen and kindly cooked my husband's eggs for the 3rd round and they were cooked well. Poor server had to cover for everyone else's mistakes at the restaurant. They ended up comping my husband's breakfast, but through all of our dining issues, I expected a little more. read more

I love this place! One of my favorite places to eat! As I pull into the parking lot there are vintage cars displayed out front. When I entered, I was greeted by a friendly host. The downstairs dinning area is so cool! The whole restaurant is in a 1940's theme, complete with Coca Cola posters and an awesome motor cruiser set up in the middle of the restaurant. I noticed they had an upstairs dinning patio as well, so I took a look. The patio area, though not always open, has a great view of the ocean. I ordered the chicken fingers meal with an Oreo Shake. Yuuuuuummmmyyyy! The food was delicious! My server's was name Alicia, and she gave me fast and friendly service. I went with a friend, but noticed that there were many families eating there too. The food was amazing and the customer service was excellent. I ordered the tuna melt, which was perfectly toasted and full of flavor. My partner had the burger, and it was juicy, well-seasoned, and cooked just right. Everything tasted fresh and came out quickly. The staff was friendly, attentive, and made us feel very welcome from the moment we walked in. They checked in on us and made sure we had everything we needed. Cool location, I really liked the classic cars on display. I rooftop patio is unique to this location as well. The food was good, what you expect from a diner. I ordered the calamari to start. They were in the form of spears almost like french fries, which was unexpected but still pretty good. My server Emma recommended the Oreo shake with peanut butter. they were brutally bullying me for not having shoes and shoved me out of the restaurant and hit me brutally.

the customer service varies yet the food is always good! considering i eat there 1-2 times a week!

Ruby's part of my childhood and will always be. But the overall experience is a must for all.
