This little cafe has good seafood and a lunch special. Clean and friendly staff. I like the seafood.

Came here for a weekday lunch and they have a wide variety of selections from seafood to burgers to salads. Got the fried catfish boat which includes fries, coleslaw, corn, on the cob, and hush puppies (as opposed to the basket which only includes fries and hush puppies). Food was prompt and came out in less than 10 minutes. The catfish didn't taste fishy (the bad kind of fishy) at all but wish it was crispier. Portion size was a good amount of food. All in all, a decent but average seafood option in the Freeport area. Staff was super nice and offered extra tartar sauce and cocktail sauce. Don't be fooled by the plain exterior: Rudy Roo's serves excellent seafood and perfect extras at reasonable prices. We enjoyed the seafood platter and ordered gumbo and fried okra on the side. It made a comfortable lunch for 4, which we digested while listening to Rudy tell stories about the 15 year history of the place. I can never decide if I like the blackened fish or blackened shrimp the best. They are both delicious. This little restaurant does a booming business. Their burgers are good and what a lot of people order, but don't get hung up on one thing... the menu has a lot of delicious options and you may miss out if you order the same thing every time!!! Boudin balls were borderline if not at the point of having been made with porridge. I liked the batter but the filling was almost 80% rice and 20% other stuff. If that isn't the case, that's how it tasted, and that's what really matters right? Such a shame since the seasoning was not that bad. you pay a little more than 5 bucks for 4 balls...1.25/ball should be fairly good right? Hmm, well, no. I had the oyster po'boy as well and two of the fried oysters still had grit/sand in them. Yup. Based on that you can infer the caliber of the cleanliness of the food prep (I saw a lady in the back transporting a few fillets of tilapia with just her hand and not in a container or anything. Couldn't tell if she was wearing gloves. I don't know why everyone's raving about the po'boy itself as it seemed like a normal tasting one to me...though the bread wasn't my favorite in terms of texture (chewy almost to the point of rubberiness). Lastly, the fries they had aren't special or anything, but I do want to note that they smelled FOUL. Like rotten foul. It's a familiar type of rotten but I can't quite pinpoint what type it was...rotten...fish I guess? I was wondering why it smelled and subsequently tasted strange and then I figured that perhaps they deep fry their fish in oil and use that same oil to fry their French fries. Well, if the fries have a foul odor, then what does that speak of their fish? The po'boy and fries were ~9+ I do like the interior of the place as it has the nice tiny southern feel to it. Hole in the wall small restaurant. I read previous reviews and decided to stop and give it a try. Everything was made fresh to order. We got fried pickles and mozzarella sticks for appetizers. I got a shrimp poboy with fries, my fiancé got the seasoned plate with jumbo shrimp, Catfish, fries, and side salad, my daughter got the jumbo shrimp platter with fires and side salad. I've tried the burger and fries, pretty good. However, I tried another time getting the shrimp, hush puppies, fries and cole slaw....the shrimp batter was soggy, the fries were very vinegary...I was unhappy. It may have just been an off day. I'm just reluctant to try again.... read more

Very friendly place, with okay food, in an uninviting area. This feels like a family-run place that should be better. The most popular item seems to be fried shrimp, which was heavily battered and didn't exactly taste the freshest. Better was the fried catfish and grilled shrimp. Portions are decent and food comes out hot, as if it were prepared to order, which I think it is. Don't let the exterior of the building sway you! A friend and I went there after checking on Yelp for a place to eat. It was the best! The blackened catfish was great, boudan balls were super good, and the amount of food was abundant; more than abundant. From the outside Rudy Roo's Seafood looks like a closed seafood market. Don't let the outside appearance fool you. The food is Great. The fried flounder was crisp on the outside and flaky inside, delicious. Same for the fried shrimp. Crab Augratin came with the meal. Not being a crab Augratin fan I won't comment on it. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Rudy Roo's Seafood is a no nonsense real seafood restaurant. Next time I am at Surfside I will make a little detour to Freeport and eat lunch at Rudy Roo's. read more

I went there with my wife expecting a tourist place and found a working mans place to eat fresh fish. It was cheaper than I thought and more casual . It was just as good as I could have hoped and better than the walk in appearance made me expect. read more
