Rudy is greedy. So, keep that in mind... DON'T go here for SMOG ‍ you can get it done much cheaper by way chiller folks. Why the review? Money is reeally tight, so I called around a couple dozen shops for a smog check I need done. Went to a place in Buena Park that charged me $48 and change (+ free retest if no-pass!), but the truck didn't pass. I applied for smog repair financial assistance thru bar.ca.gov and got an approval letter! They've a list of CAD approved repair shops, one of them I knew, an affordable and reliable mechanic in Garden Grove, but they were swamped cuz they were going out of town that week. I ended up calling Rudy's shop and he was available for the couple hours it'd take to do the smog diagnostics. And I agreed to the $225 inspection fee (which was to be added to the end total after repairs)... but the truck, funny enough, passed the smog test! Great! That was funny. Then, Rudy slaps me with an $80 smog fee (which I had no idea he charged that much). I pleaded with Rudy, who is the owner of the shop, if he could lower the price - I even shared my notes of prices of every shop I called previously, legitimately citing Rudy as being the *most expensive* price I had heard of in town... But, guy couldn't care less. It's *his* shop, and he wants that much (for barely any work, mind you, it's literally just plugging a sensor into the car's computer and poking around with a flashlight under the hood). So, although he never told me what he 'might' charge for just a smog only - he already did the test, and what could I do. ‍‍ At least it was quick... the man had no other customers (wonder why). What goes around comes around. ...gave 2 stats instead of 1 cuz I'm happy arlt least the truck passed the smog tho Rudy had nothing to do with it. read more

Looking to get an oil change, I called around and decided to go to Rudy's because of a $15 advertised price from Penny Saver. I have a 2004 Kia Sorento SUV so I made sure to call ahead and see if it would cost more and was quoted a $18 price. When I got there, the guy told me that it would be more than what he told me since my car used a "cartridge oil filter" and then said it would be $28. When I brought up the fact I called ahead he said, "Yeah, I didn't know it had one.. there's nothing I can do about it." Upon returning home, I called a few other places and confirmed that my car did NOT take a cartridge filter. Very sketchy. Please avoid. read more

Ok, so I just want to say that I have the best mechanic ever. I have been going to him for years but something he did today is what made me do this. So I took my vehicle in today as i usually do when I have mechanical issues, but this time he did something that is very rare in this industry and that he stopped me from putting anymore money into my vehicle. He did it by telling me that he recommends me letting this vehicle go because this time it will cost more to fix the problem than what the vehicle is worth. Everytime i have taken my vehicles to him he has fixed the problem and the problem is gone. It is never been a repetitive problem that has occured, he honest and the greatest human being for caring so much. He is top notch quality in my book. This is his info if anyone is ever looking for reliable mechanic, i don't know his prices for all he does but remember you pay for what you get. I went to Rudys and got my water pump replaced for $350 and a couple days later i noticed my truck was leaking again so i took it back and they told me my timing case gasket needed replaced for $900.00 so i decided to shop around well plenty of mechanics told me to check the bolts on the water pump and timing case so i did well a couple on the pump were loose that leads to righting the case and 2 bolts on the case were loose..Rudys tried to screw me read more
