Overall the food is fine but the place is dirty, sticky floor, leftovers on the tables, booth seats really dirty. The staff is very busy on their phones showing each other things that make each other laugh. I always feel as if I'm interrupting and just shouldn't be there. It's a good clean Mexican food place. It's not your taqueria style affair but the clean, americanized mexican food we all come to love. The burritos are good and the full on dishes with rice and beans are excellent. The service has always been amiable and I like the horchata. A great place to grab a quick snack or burrito. My fiance and I stopped by to grab a quick taco before heading to Carp State Beach. He ordered the pollo asado and I the rolled potato tacos. We really loved the different salsas and sauces they had to choose from. It was also nice to sit outside in the warm heat and enjoy our cervesas! Read the reviews before i tried this place. Saw mixed reviews. Also was recommended by a couple locals for the best Mexican food. Not the best! The carne asada had a very bland taste. Nothing really stands out about this place. They only have three menus in the whole establishment. If they where smart they would put them by the door and restock when needed. I had lunch here at this little Mexican Reataurant called Ruby's and boy was I pleased! The portions are big, but more than that the quality of food is awesome. Long time Rudy's customer in SB and Goleta (before they closed), and have always had very pleasant experiences. Not today! Stopped by Rudy's on my way to LA this morning (Carpinteria) and ordered a #1 chorizo, egg, and potato burrito with a side of beans. The beans, complimentary chips and salsa bar were very good; however, the burrito was horrible. Big cheese blob on one end, hard (raw) potatoes, eggs, and NO chorizo (really). Cut the burrito open, showed the cashier, and said I paid $11 for this? She didn't seem to care; it also appeared the cook was paying much more attention to music than food and customers. So the food was decent, but I probably wouldn't go back there for the simple reason that while I was eating their chicken burrito, I really wanted a burrito from the liquor store down the street. (Thankfully, my hubby surprised me with one a few days later). It's pretty sad, when you're at one restaurant, but the food inspires you to crave another. Bit torn on this review. Their food is a bit greasy. They use too much cheese. Their burritos are not very good. Taco tuesday I suppose is pretty great. Their crunchy chicken or crunchy beef tacos are enormous and pretty tasty. Salsas are average. Stop using so much cheese. If they had a bit cleaner place and cut down on the grease this might be a higher score. As is the crunchy tacos are the only thing worth getting. We wanted some authentic Mexican grub, but got something more akin to Taco Bell. Portions were big, but also entirely flavorless. We got a couple combo burritos with steak and pork and a sopas with chicken. The burritos were giant, but also very dry, and with very little veggies. The guac inside didn't taste fresh, and the pork in particular was rock hard. The sopas were were greasy, and the chicken was dry and tasteless. Food was average, below average for Cali Poor service Disturbing part was that they had 1 high chair. The high chair was in use by a family sitting in the restaurant that was not eating. They were finishing as I was ordering. The family ended up being a relative or friend because one of the waitresses sat with them for 20 minutes and was still there when we left. Not having a high chair for a 13 month old makes it difficult. Also I had shoulder surgery and was in a sling struggling trying to eat and feed her. Basically I only have use of my left right now. The one star isn't for the food because I haven't eaten here...it's for the customer service. A group of us from work are doing field work in the area and a few of us went for lunch here. One of my coworkers ordered food and purchased a drink for me since I brought my lunch and we ate outside. I asked to use the restroom and she said "No it's for customers only." I explained to her my situation and it still didn't matter. I know it may be petty but seriously? This is one of the top places that my coworkers eat at when we're in town.
