Rudy's has apparently been around for a long time and has 3 locations. This was my first visit. The drive-thru was busy so we decided to eat inside. The interior is a step back in time to maybe the 70's. Lots of indoor seating. You order at the counter and wait while they prepare it. Service took awhile because they were doing the drive-thru traffic. Once we got our food we waited at the end of the counter to pay, sort of cafeteria style. My all beef King dog was very filling. And the onion rings were fried to perfection. My hubs said the chili cheese dog was tasty. The prices are very affordable. So if you are looking for cheap eats this is your place. Entered the Rudy's Hot Dog location on Glendale Ave in Toledo on May 20th at 1:15pm. There was a group of about 7, including small children who were eating at a table. There were also 5 adults in line, but not all together. None of them were able to order because a small middle aged man, who appeared to be in charge, was screaming at a young man who was also behind the counter. Most of his language consisted of cuss words. The family folks quickly asked that the screaming and cussing be stopped. The young man who was the target of this tirade also asked the supervisor to stop this behavior in front of the children. Within a couple of minutes, those of us in line, rapidly left the building, in fear that we may be soon witnessing a physical fight or worse. On the way out the door, we were asked by those in the drive through what the hold up was. When they were told, they started to leave. Thought that ownership should know what is going on at this store. This situation was totally one sided. No one should have to put up with that kind of treatment. read more

This place looks like a dive but the chili dogs here are top tier. The staff is friendly, quick, and accurate. I always get the same thing of chili dogs and onion rings every time i come here. I enjoyed this chili dog. Whether or not it is better or any different in taste from Netty's chili dog... I'm not positive. They taste about the same to me. However, I am excited to go back to Rudy's and try more of there menu items! I've seen pictures of the burgers that looked great, they also have a breakfast menu, and I'd love to try one of their milkshakes as well. I'll keep you updated on my further experiences with Rudy's. I've been going to Rudy's since I was a kid. It's always been a hometown favorite. The Hotdogs are the best in town in my opinion. I know others will say it's the second best. I love hot dogs. While traveling around the country I enjoy popping into local joints and tasting the local rendition of this classic. Rudy's didn't disappoint. The hot dogs were well cooked, flavorful and enjoyable. As a New Yorker, I've always been confused as to why they call these Coney Dogs, because they're nothing like what we do to our dogs in NYC. I went inside to this location to eat for lunch today and i will never return again. The lady on the grill looked like she was on drugs, was rude and had a Goodtimes Bar & Grill hoodie on (weird because that's not a work shirt for Rudys). I ordered a double Rudy burger with everything. I got to my table and there wasn't any cheese nor did they ask as I usually get asked any other time I've EVER ordered from Rudys and it had lettuce on it it doesnt come with lettuce. I already had to go back to line to get a piece of cheese and the same lady looked at me and said cheese is extra with a very snooty attitude. I didnt mind it being extra but nobody even asked in the first place and why did they put lettuce on it. Clearly the lunch staff today 2/18/2025 do not know what they are doing and need more training on the menu and customer service. I literally almost just walked out before I even sat down. Service... we had to tell them our order five times and still they did not understand so we drove up to the window and showed them the phone with the order on it. I dont know how you can give this place a bad review. It is what it is and it's wonderful. Classic everything. I have gotten the burgers and dogs all good. Milkshakes, good, onion rings, cheese fries good and good. They also serve breakfast which I have seen but not experienced. They have draft beer and several other beverage options. The decor is original and I like it! It would hurt my feelings if it ever changed. The staff sometimes look like they were hired out of a work release program, and maybe they are who knows. They are generally friendly and the food is usually prompt even though they do get busy. My only complaint is that it gets hot, like Africa hot in there during Summer. The Glendale location has the worst customer service! This location says that it is open until 8 pm on Saturday evenings. We got in the drive thru line at 7:40 pm. There were two cars in line ahead of us. We waited in the line for ten minutes before we could pull up to the speaker. That's when we were told that they were closed and had served their last two customers. I told the young man that I was speaking with that they didn't close until 8 pm, as we sat there we watched the young man turn off their open sign. Are you kidding me, really! I pulled up to the drive thru window, hoping to plead my case for three chili dogs. At first we didn't think they would open the window, then they did to tell me that they were closed. I said you don't close until 8 pm, the young man I had spoken to on the speaker told me that they need to clean up before they leave. At that time another gentleman that appeared to be a supervisor came to the window. I said you don't close until 8 pm so why can't we get served. He explained ,without ever looking me in the eye, that he had been there for 8 hours putting up with customers. What did he expect? He told us that we could have cold hot dogs, no thanks! They told us that they don't make enough to care. Bottom line, if it says 8 pm and your "open" sign is on, serve your customers! I can be to this restaurant literally in three minutes, from my home, but they won't be serving me again. If I crave Rudy's Hot Dogs, I'll drive to Airport Hwy. Far be it from me to dispute the, uh, loquacious Pug P., but I wasn't impressed by the onion rings. Or the hot dog for that matter. Only after my meal did I see the sign advertising "new" jumbo all-beef dogs for $1.99. Those weren't on the regular menu. Too bad: I would have liked to compare their beef dog to what I am used to in Chicago. The regular dog took me back to the days of elementary-school cafeteria lunches. Oh well. This joint has a 1970's fast-food setup but it's actually not annoying or goofy; it seems to work. The first two staff members that I encountered were rather dour, but the third one who took my milkshake order was very pleasant. She wished me "Good night" cheerfully both when I got the shake and when I walked out of the store a minute later. Either the shake or the soft-serve ice cream which formed it was from a machine, but it hit the spot. $2.15 for a medium chocolate malt? Sold. I was inclined to give two stars, but the friendly third employee and the yummy fake-shake bumped them up. After all, they accomplish what they are trying to be. It didn't hurt that I got some great warm-fuzzies a few minutes later as I barreled east on I-80 with the top down and the setting sun in my rearview mirror, my belly full of real Americana and not chain toll-plaza food. Let me be clear. This is a review of the Glendale location only. I have lived in Toledo my whole life and I firmly believe Rudys is the best hot dog around. HOWEVER, this location has such appalling customer service its almost impressive. In the handful of times I have gone there in the past year (glutton for punishment I guess) they have gotten my order correct ZERO TIMES. The staff is often rude and loud and clearly has no kind of structure behind the counter. They never read my order back to me and when they do it's reluctant and clear that they didn't know what I ordered in the first place. As someone who has worked in the food service industry for over ten years I know that's its almost difficult to be this bad at it. Disappointing. That next day after work I went in asking for this envelope to some punk kid sun glasses on and a toothpick hanging from his mouth and barely able to understand him. Rudy's on Sylvania has been a family tradition as long as I can remember. The chili is out of this world, I love the Rudyburger. As do my kids, my Grandkids and My parents. The chili dogs are amazing, and EVERYONE in the place is friendly. I travel from out of state with my main destination being Rudys. I'm in love with Rudy's! The decor is all 70's, I swear you can see the grime on the 40 year old booster seats that have never been cleaned, and the employees are completely emotionless. BUT!
