A homecoming for our dog Rudy. Two years ago we picked her up in metro Detroit and stopped here on the way home. Mrs. E. Decided on the namesake and it had stuck. Small, comfortable and neighborly restaurant where I was able to get good service and a basic, unique and tasty dinner. Walk through the line with a tray, order, receive and pay. About as simple as you could get. I ordered the Hot Dog Plate and received 3 hot dogs all the way, which included onions, ketchup, mustard, and a hearty chili. The Fried Mushrooms were hot and crispy and were served with...cocktail sauce! The perfect dinner, especially with a Stewart's soda as an accompaniment. I did see a range of desserts in a case. Whenever I visit Toledo, I have been a little sad that I could no longer have a chili dog from my favorite hot dog place since I was diagnosed with Celiac Disease about 20 years ago . On Eclipse Monday the staff made it possible for me to enjoy Rudy's once again by making two loaded chili dogs using my unopened package of Schars hot dog buns. I was in Heaven!!! Ehh, who likes to give bad reviews? I came upon the suggestion of a local. We are a family of hot dog lovers, so of course we can make a detour on our COVID safe road trip. The place was disgusting for "covid prepared" restaurant. No 6ft separation of seats. A few plexiglass stands between booth seats, but food and finger prints made it apparent it had not been cleaned recently. Every table but 3 had old orders, but of course to recognize their efforts the drive thru was so busy. I heard conversations about shifts, some gossip, but working was not happening. The youngest kids really pulled their weight helping us but unfortunately there was one not doing much. Taking our order than walking away. For 2 dogs paid for already it took 15 minutes. They were not enforcing mask wearing (of course not when eating) and the bathroom walls were noticeable unclean. This happened in March 2020. Unfortunately time took me away from this review but it was still so terrible I had to post. I hope it's cleaned up since then and recognized that teen kid in there the only one doing any work. read more

I'm going to say something blasphemous: I don't understand the appeal of this place. My boyfriend born and raised in Toledo swears by Rudy's and Tony Pacos. So of course during our visits we have to go to one of the two. After getting the chance to come here finally, I just don't get it. It reminds me of a school cafeteria. As bad one. The building is really old and run down on the he inside. They need a SERIOUS remodel. Sure, the hotdogs were fine. But I just really didn't enjoy my experience here at all. Throughly disappointed in the meal I bought at Rudy's tonight. I am not one to complain but since my complaint fell on deaf ears when I called I have to say something. I purchased a large Chili Mac with onion and cheese, and what I received was a large bowl of noodles and water with a tiny scoop of hamburger, a few beans, very little onion and cheese. I could have made noodles at home tonight but wanted a meal, and one like I remember a Rudy's chili Mac to be...and it used to come with garlic bread as well. The lady had the nerve to explain I got the chili Mac ($6.55) I ordered. Well perhaps I did, and if it's the best they have then it will be the last Rudy's order ever. They were more concerned with getting the place clean then properly preparing what this customer purchased. It is the last money you will get from me. I moved to the area about a month and a half ago, and this is right around the corner from my house. I am ALLLL about the convenience of ordering takeout and picking up via drive-thru. So, i called to order a large greek salad, and she said they're pre-made, so just come through. So, I did. And my ~large greek salad~ was a little side salad container that wasn't half full, and was $5.25. I have NO clue how small the small salad would be. I can't even imagine. One of the tomatoes was wrinkly and had to be thrown out. No beets. Just a small amount of iceberg with cucumbers(?!), a couple olives, onion, a small slab of feta, and a couple grape tomatoes. Definitely not the large (meaning: dinner!) greek salad I was hoping for. I can't vouch for the other food, but I was not impressed. I probably won't be returning, because it's hard to screw up greek salad, so I can't imagine the other stuff being too great. read more

Everytime we head up to Toledo, we pass by Rudy's on Alexis. I was always curious in trying it, but we never do. Today, after enduring an hour in the Charter One Bank next door, we decided to reward ourselves with a hotdog or two. So this is pretty much how it went down inside. Walk in, told them I wanted 2 dogs with everything and my fiance wanted a dog with chili sauce and cheese. We took our tray with 3 dogs, order 2 drinks and paid for them (under $7). Ordered, paid and at our table with our food in under 5 minutes. Nice! So what can I say about their hot dog. They looked appetizing, tasted great and was really affordable. Great place for a quick, easy and cheap meal. My one and only gripe is that I wish they had more toppings. And for a bonus, there was an friendly, old farmer outside in the parking lot selling watermelons for $2 a piece. We bought one of those too. We'll most definitely be back. read more

I give my one star to their onion rings. Super overrated. Hot dogs are NOTHING but super ordinary, poor quality hot dogs. The chili has become a watery mess, like they just try to add a bunch of water to stretch it. Fries are NEVER cooked right. Mostly just soggy non throughly cooked potatoes. The teenagers who work there have no sense of good customer service nor do they even care about their job...customers interfere with their gossip time. If I could give zero stars I would! This place was AWFUL! Went there on a Saturday afternoon just for a little hold me over till dinner time snack...BAD IDEA! I got a corn dog and iced tea, my husband got a coney dog and Diet Coke. Let's see....where to begin? We order at drive in, got our food, drive off and YUCK! Well to start with my husband's his coney sauce looked like the smeared it on with a knife, so dry, no moisture at all to it, smeared over the 5 pieces of onions. AWFUL! Diet Coke was good. My corn dog was good, but did not get any mustard or ketchup with it, the iced tea was unsweetened and no sugar came with it. Just an all around bad bad visit where I am turned off with my very first visit! The employee was too busy carrying on with her fellow employees. She could of asked would you like ketchup or mustard for your corn dog? Did you know our tea is unsweetened would you like sugar or something else? SOMETHING! Having grown up in Toledo, a lot of my family, friends, classmates and coworkers enjoy eating here. While it's not exactly fine dining, the food is always hot and the staff is always very friendly. A good place for lunch. This location has a drive-thru which is convenient. During their busy period it can take upwards of 20 minutes to get through the drive thru line, so be prepared to wait if you see a one. There really is nothing better than Rudys's! Best hot dogs and chili sauce in the city. They also make outstanding sandwiches (burgers, grilled cheese, grilled chicken, etc.). Their breakfast is delish as well. If you've never had the soup, check out the chicken noodle (exactly what you need to soothe any cold, especially in this weather!). WOW customer service is at an all new LOW! Make sure to check your order order before you leave because this place does not and will not be sympathetic to your needs. And I certainly would NEVER hire the so-called manager at this location. Esteban Nino claimed he was the manager but conducted himself like an inexperienced employee let alone an employee that has authorities over a businesses reputation. I live 20 minutes from this location and they shorted half of my order! That's 50% of my order. I drove all the way back and when I walked in he said he had my hotdogs. I then said I need the order re-made because by the time I return home my items at my house would have been over 40 minutes old! He refused and got an attitude like it was my fault and he could do nothing! All he offered was to supply my hotdogs that where shorted. I asked then for a refund at which time he said he would only refund my items I haven't received yet. I have had many years in retail and have NEVER experienced such unprofessionalism!! There are so many options to eat in Toledo I would say to stay away from this place because if a manager shows this little care imagine all the others that work there! I have been a Rudy's fan since childhood. I remember the original building on Sylvania, where my parents went to eat in the early sixties. It's classic diner food. The dogs with everything and the crisp hot fries are fantastic. The chilli is like no other anywhere. It's wonderful. This is Rudy's! A Toledo staple for Chilli Dogs and Rudy Burgers. I do love the dogs and a new found love for Rudy's chilli. The chilli mac is not at par with a couple of my other local faves--noodles too big and wet, not enough meat sauce on top. Don't let that stop you from trying other fine things from the menu. They do have a good selection of pies and greek rice pudding. My favorite Rudy's is actually on Sylvania and Lewis (night crew) Don't forget to put on some tunes on the juke box. 3 stars is el perfecto as far as a chili joint goes...this 'aint' gourmet and that's ok. read more
