As I've said in other reviews, we've eaten at all the Rudy's locations starting about 55 years ago. They're just as good today. A thrill for me was meeting a direct decent of Rudy! I know we could've spent a couple hours comparing our histories. Seems I always grab eight coneys and a corn dog. They come out perfect each time. Too bad for me, these days, I have to say "No onions, please." I do insist on a line of Brinkman's ketchup on each. I love the Monroe location. It's plenty clean with a large dining room and some super-top-notch people. Maybe it's best I don't live in Toledo. I'd be here and Tim's every doggone day, eventually, broke. Jeeeeez, this place is FILTHY! As I was waiting for the hot dog chef to acknowledge my presence, I was looking around the food prep area and noticed that the place was filthy. There were bits of cheese, sauce, and mustard all over the prep area where they make the dogs. There was grunge all over the grill and the floor was dirty. As I was "received" by her majesty, the hot dog chef/queen, I saw her place my dog buns directly into the cheese, sauce, mustard grunge on her prep area. I asked her to start over and to place my dogs on a plate, not the prep surface. Seriously, the kids need to learn that these surfaces need to be wiped down after every order or at least when the surfaces become soiled. As I rounded the corner, I went to grab some silverware. Soup spoons and knives. No forks, no teaspoons. I also noticed that the milkshake machine was also encrusted with goo. As I waited for the cashier to pay up, I waited and waited and then waited some more. He was busy helping the girl assemble someone's drive through order. So, he was handling money and food... Nice. I never saw him (or anyone) wash their hands. At this point, I'm not sure why I didn't walk out. I guess I was just really hungry for some hot dogs. So, I used to go to Rudy's with my grandmother every other week or so. She loved hot dogs as much as I do. She passed away 10 years ago, and I really slowed down in how many times I would go to Rudy's. Grandma couldn't see or I'm sure she would have wanted to go elsewhere. That said, we usually went to the Rudy's on Sylvania or on Summit. They were the cleanest. Now, the other Rudy's really need to clean up their act and clean prep surfaces as needed. They need to sweep and mop the floors and clean the equipment before the end of the day (please confirm it does get cleaned at least once per day...). I can't say that after eating my 2 dogs that it was worth it. The "kids" working there were rude, the place is filthy and it was $10 bucks for 2 dogs and an order of onion rings. Who doesn't eat at Rudy's when in northwest Ohio? Once Sonic abandoned the hot dog hit parade i had to find a good Chicago dog. I could go to Chicago(one of ny exes is there...), but he wasn't a fan( guy loved Cheesecake Factory) or make my own. Rudy's isn't perfect, but it's pretty darn good. Plus they have an eclectic menu. Pure Hotdog Heaven! We visit the Toledo area once maybe twice a year and it's an absolute must that we stop by. Heck it's usually the first place we stop as we drive in. We always get chili dogs nothing else. I have no clue how anything else taste bc once we tried the chili dogs we haven't tried anything else. Great prices, chili dog chili, hot dogs, buns, good gosh I could go for one right now! A few weeks ago I was in Toledo on business, and needed a quick hot dog fix. As there are many other dog joints in town, I opted to give Rudy's a shot. Overall it was very good. Service was a little less than "friendly" and they weren't busy, but wasn't totally disheartening. Since it was my first time there, I had some questions, and the young man taking orders was frustrating that I couldn't just order. Other than that, the dogs were cooked just right, chili sauce is delicious, and had just the right amount of onions and mustard. An On-Point coney. Lol. Fries were very hot and good for a frozen fry. 2 dogs and fry and a drink for $6.50 isn't bad at all in today's world!! read more

Don't let one bad review influence your opinion about this place TOO much. All of the other Rudy's in town rate 4.5 stars, and somehow this one rates 2 stars? C'mon. Although such a thing is possible, it just ain't so. This Rudy's is just like every other Rudy's in the city, and that's a good thing. Rudy's is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. I've never had a bad meal, and personally, Rudy's hotdogs are my favorite in Toledo. (Not the best chili mac, however. That title would go to Ideal Hotdog). Their soups, especially the bean soup, are also very good. Their Greek salad, somewhat surprisingly, is really good! Nice fresh olives and cheese. The Greek dressing is not homemade, but it is better than most homemade dressings. Is five stars a little high for any Rudy's? Am I "Reactive Yelping?" Am I trying to average out a bad review? It's a hot dog joint, and if you stick with the standards you'll get what you expect. Mustard, chili, onions, cheese on a classic dog with a steamed bun. If, on the other had, you try their "Chicago" dog, my friends you will be massively disappointed. I'm not going to change the stars on my review, because I blame myself for trying something different. But I figured, hell... since they have it on the menu it must be something they want me to try. As soon as I saw the cook grab one of the weird super dark brown / grey dogs that sit next to the regular pink ones I knew something was wrong. As I watched her place pickle slices on top, I knew I was in for something weird. Did it have relish on it? No. Did it have sport peppers on it? No. It was just chopped tomatoes, sliced pickles (instead of the classic spears), onions and mustard with a dash of celery salt. The dog itself was awful and the whole experience was just hilariously terrible. So take note dear food travelers... focus on the chili or kraut dogs, but stay the heck away from the "Chicago" dog. A great cafeteria style restaurant. Can't wait to come back on my next vacation up here. 3 Chili Dogs Onion Rings What Is It: Pretty self explanatory. Presentation: Like the store itself it's an old school, cafeteria style presentation with the white trays. The cups look really cool too. 7 out of 10 Taste: The thing that stood out the most about my meal is how good the chili is. It's a lot thicker than the Cincinnati style chili I'm used to and they flavoured it very well. That made for a very solid Chili Dog. The onion rings were really good also. The wife and I had heard so much about this place so we were expecting to be BLOWN away...alas, we were not! Not even in the slightest! The hot dogs had no substance to them whatsoever...it was like opening a can of Vienna Sausages, warming them up and placing three on a sub-standard bun and putting something that they call "Chili" on top. By the way, what they call "chili" is literally finely ground up meat with little to no flavor at all. The fries were also tasteless. I couldn't put enough salt on them to pull out any flavor. All in all, I should have just went to the Chick-fil-a across the way! The restaurant was absolutely filthy, and their bathroom was disgusting! I have seen cleaner port-a-johns on jobs sites. The sign out front said new manager. The place was a wreck today. 3 teen girls who were more interested in socializing than being attentive. The ceiling was leaking all over the floor. No bucket, no sign. Just a big ole puddle getting bigger. Coney meat and other food debris a over the floor, dirty tables, dirty side walls... Did I mention we were the only ones there and it wasn't busy so there was zero excuse for the filth. This place needs to be whipped into shape. We normally go to the one on Glendale. The food was what I expected, hotdogs and fries are hard to screw up, but what really made this place fantastic was the staff. Wow, they were great! Conversational, warm, and friendly. This location seems to be going through a "cleaning up" phase. Hardly any of the "normal staff" is there anymore. Plus, things that I used to notice all the time i.e. debris all over the baseboards, finger prints on the glass doors/booth glass, greasy chairs and table tops, and in the bathroom- can we say a foul stench-- , WELL NOW it has been washed away. I don't know who did it, but THANK YOU!!!! I knew it would eventually get cleaned up, but why did they wait 3 YEARS?!!? I guess they needed the new management, Good deal. Still, the current staff is way more upbeat and this heavy set lady with the glasses, Cracks Me Up every time! She will randomly sing or make conversation and can you say brilliant smile. She clearly enjoys her job and so does that other guy in a white hat. I still haven't asked his name. There is true kitchen communication happening again. Their improvements help, I hope they know this. The young girls at night time really stepped up their game also, they normally sat on the counter, but I haven't seen that in forever. However, I decided to take a closer look at the second and felt sick. It was not only overcooked but clearly old. I'm very disheartened with this local favorite. Yes Rudy's does serve good hot dogs but they also have other items that i definitely think are worth your time. Their chicken wings are really good and crispy and their chicken tenders are also really good as well and the part that i love about Rudy's is that something so good can cost so little. They also have great cheese fries and cheeseburgers as well so it's really hard to order from Rudy's and be disappointed. The only reason this is a 4 out of 5 stars is because depending on which location you go to it can be a hit or miss but thankfully it's mostly a hit. read more

Rudy's is forever coming up clutch in the food department. They have arguably the best chili dogs in the city and they live up to it all the time. Their vanilla malts are legendary and go perfectly with their chili dogs. Rudys is a family tradition of mine. My mom worked here and ate here when she was preg and now I'm preg eating here! The hot dogs and chilli are always amazing! And they have cool pics of President Obama eating here. My issue with this location this day was the rude cashier lady. I ordered mozz sticks and she brought them out under cooked and hard. I had another lady bring me out better ones that were hot and oozy. Then I got BACK IN LINE for a pop refill (instead of just going straight to register and waiting) and cashier lady kept taking orders from customers behind me :/. Really lady?
