I absolutely can not believe it's taken me this long to review this amazing restaurant! First let me say, this restaurant will always be near and dear to my heart. On December 2, 2006 my now husband proposed to me here at this very location. We don't go back as often as I would like, but every time we do the experience gets better and better. W/in the last few months we have been twice. The first time we ordered a dry aged ribeye that could rival the likes of any top class steak house. Amazing wouldn't even be a good enough word to describe this deliciousness. We also ordered a side of BBQ shrimp which paired perfectly with the steak. Also the service was 5 star in and of itself! The second time we went, and sat at the bar for dinner. This experience alone was top notch. Our waitresses were so friendly and attentive. This time we ordered the corn and crab soup with huge pieces of lump crab. We also ordered the BBQ shrimp again. At first it came out rather cold but once we made mention of it, they insisted on taking it back and doing it again. The second time it came out was spot on! Simple delicious. We also enjoyed a few martinis too. Really, this is such a good place to go for special occasions or even date nights. This place is fun. It's loud and rowdy. They have sports playing on big TVs. There's all sort of LSU memorabilia in cases all over the restaurant. Service is wonderful. Super attentive super friendly. It's clean and the atmosphere is great! We ordered Italian, spaghetti and lasagne. The spaghetti was average and the meatballs were mostly breadcrumbs I didn't care for the lasagne but my other half liked it. The "cheesey pull apart" appetizer was a big melted slice of mozzarella cheese with olive pile and a little basil on it with over toasted bread. Food wise I like the Italian Pie much better. It's a great place, I suppose the steaks and specialty foods are better. read more

Please note this review is for a private dining reservation. Oh my dear lord in heaven. I'm glad when I finally made it to Ruffino's, someone else was footing the bill because I got to try everything and it was all DELICIOUS. And worth every last calorie. We started with Dirty Ketel martinis. Several. Then came the passarounds. Redfish Beignets, which were reminiscent to crabcakes but had a little more breading and a slightly different flavor. Tasty, but I could only do one because it was pretty heavy. Next, was the Alligator Sausage with caramelized onions and a mustard dipping sauce. GLORIOUS with a ton of flavors that worked really well together. I could have eaten an entire tray of this, if I didn't have a 4 course dinner coming. Next, we were seated to a first course that could very well be described as the best thing I've eaten in Baton Rouge - the Crabmeat Cheesecake. Y'ALL. It's rich, it's crabby, it's creamy, and then it has this crust like sweet cheesecake would have that's crispy and awesome and you just can't help but eat the entire thing. It was die and go to heaven good. I would absolutely go back and get that with a salad and be super satisfied. Second course was a Caesar Salad served with their bread. The Caesar Salad was just a basic Caesar but the bread was like WHOA. They serve regular french bread with this Italian butter that can be best described as a combo of the deliciousness of the olive oil/cheese mixture served on top of bread at the Little Village combined with olive tapenade. YUM and again, could have eaten it ALL DAY LONG. Third course was the entree - we had a choice of Chicken Parm, Ribeye with Barbeque Shrimp, Filet Mignon, or Fish. I went with the Ribeye with Barbeque Shrimp and it was wonderful. I've never had Steak with NOLA style BBQ shrimp and now I feel like it's a combo that every restaurant should offer. The steak sucks up all of the tasty shrimp juice and it's just...legendary. The steak was served medium and cooked perfectly. Certainly impressive and indicative of a great restaurant that medium can be executed on EVERY steak that comes out in a PDR. By the fourth course, I was so full that I could barely move and more than a little inebriated on free booze, but dessert was bread pudding and how can you really turn that down? Well, I didn't. And it was so worth the pain. Custardy in the inside, crispy on the outside - pretty sure it was the Krispy Kreme Bread Pudding that quite a few restaurants in BR serve, but it was executed very well and left me satisfied. At the end of the meal, I was food drunk, booze drunk, and sublimely happy, and wouldn't have wanted it any other way. The service was outstanding - no drink was ever empty, plate timing was right on. The food was outstanding. The booze, specifically their house Pinot Noir, was outstanding. It's hard to imagine a better all-around experience at a restaurant in Baton Rouge, and I will definitely refer it to anyone who asks for a suggestion on dining for a SPECIAL night out. read more

I would just like to say that I am surprised it took me this long to write this review, but any outstanding server deserves a stellar review in my book! My boyfriend and I had went to Ruffino's for a night out since quarantine. I have been several times and have always had a great experience! This time we had the pleasure of having Gabrielle as our server. She was WONDERFUL!! She took care of us the entire time! I would just like to note that Ruffino's always has the best service, hands down! But Gabrielle went above and beyond!! So next time you go, ASK FOR HER! She will not disappoint! I'll give it 4 for ambiance. The food has been declining in taste and affordability. I'm not sure what's going on there but they could use a revamp on the menu or something because the last few times (usually around the holidays because of my birthday and holiday gathers...not sure but I'll give them the benefit of doubt with high volume as to why the food has been less than desirable). I will say the appetizers always seem to outshine the main courses so maybe I'm filling up too much on those but after the lst down from dinner I'm always glad I filled up on them so again a high score for those points. Always a great date spot, dim lit, enough TVs without it feeling too sports bar which I like should a date go to the bathroom to have something to look at besides my phone. Drinks are always expensive everywhere so there's no surprise your wallet will feel it if you have even a couple of those. But you shouldn't be going out of you can't afford to so that's on you! We've enjoyed Ruffino's for many years. Our recent visit was my wife's birthday. I mentioned in the reservation and the staff wish her happy birthday throughout the evening! The menu was a bit smaller, but the food was as fantastic as ever. The the crabmeat cheesecake was perfect. The cedar plank redfish amazing. The staff, even though, some are new, was friendly and well trained. As far as Covid-19, the restaurant gets an A plus for precautions and cleanliness. It was weird, not being able to hear all the conversations at adjoining tables, but the quiet, intimate vibe was wonderful. They have the tables distanced apart about 9 feet! What do you get when you combine the talents of a former LSU lineman and a New Orleans- born Italian chef? You get Baton Rouge's only Italian-Creole fusion restaurant! During my recent business trip, we managed to dine at some really nice places during our almost 2 week stay in the greater Baton Rouge area. Ruffino's was highly recommended by our Hosts, and as soon as we walked in, I knew that I had been here before. It's fancy, dark inside, and has the service and prices to match. However, when on expense account, a little more choice flexibility is possible. Our Party of 8 was well taken care of, including appetizers, a couple bottles of wine (picked by me as the token California guy), and an assortment of delicious entrees. I particularly enjoyed and highly recommend the Cedar Plank Baked Redfish. It was a very nice evening out, especially after a hard day at work. read more

I had a very enjoyable early dinner here with a large party (10+) this Sunday. Our hosts mentioned that they are regular patrons and big fans of Ruffino's. The old-fashioned white building is pretty fascinating itself, with a tiled roof that gives the impression of having recently survived a fire. The interior was a mix between a classic diner and an upscale steakhouse, with candles and white linen, a smoldering fireplace, and Sinatra providing the background vocals. The menu contains a variety of traditional Italian offerings, some with a clear Cajun influence. Before we ordered, a waiter set out some fresh bread and a plate of olive oil, rosemary-infused butter, and some fantastic aged cheese. We started with the mozzarella salad, which wasn't so much a salad as a plate of smoked mozzarella over thin prosciutto with some greens on the side. As for my main course, I elected to go with the Veal Michael after our waitress insisted it was her favorite thing on the menu. The dish was very good, with thin veal medallions topped with thick thunks of lump crab meat and bathed in a golden lemon-butter sauce. The soggy pasta in vodka sauce on the side seemed a little haphazard though, while I certainly appreciated the extra carbs. Over all, the food was above-average to very good. I couldn't fully decide how I found the service. The waitstaff was very young-- mostly late high school to early college from the looks of it-- and had some sarcastic, borderline rude moments. But they did pace the meal very well and handled a mistaken order appropriately, after some initial defensiveness. Oh, and I should also mention that Ruffino's is very kid-friendly, more so than most restaurants of its ilk. The children in our group were invited to help knead their own pizza dough before it was placed in the oven. And after the meal, the servers bring complimentary cotton candy rolls to your table (though the adults admittedly enjoyed this more than the youngsters)! read more

The locals love this place, if that tells you something. Ruffino's is always hopping and the parking lot is always full. Well, maybe not always, but you get the point. The food is good, the atmosphere is nice, and the prices are not too outrageous for what you get. The place is not in the heart of Baton Rouge, so it will require a drive for tourists. My lone complaint is that they have to have flatscreen TVs on every wall. Can't people enjoy a nice Italian meal without having to watch TV? Can't people just sit, eat, and talk anymore? Spectacular as expected. This was my first time at the original, live in Lafayette and typically go to the location there. This time we took our son, who is an LSU student, for his birthday. Honestly, all of our experiences have been so good that I think a 4 star experience would be a disappointment. The food is outstanding but the service may be even better. I would fly all the way back from Oregon just to eat this steak. The menu is custom, and so is the service. One of the best dining experiences available in the south. The host and staff was phenomenal, and truly cared that we had a great experience. It was nice to have multiple people checking up on us through the night. Dessert was excellent too! We went for dinner on Mother's Day. We first ordered the Crawfish Cakes. Like a Crab cake, but with small crawfish. Excellent. The bread is soft and tender! I ordered the Petite Sensation salad; The right size and the sensation dressing was delicious. My wife ordered the Petite Wedge salad was excellent with plenty of blue cheese. I ordered my entree, the meatballs and spaghetti. The red sauce is very smooth and great tasting with 2 large meatballs(have eaten before and would order again!) My wife's entree was the Surf & Turf. The 16 oz rib-eye was cooked to medium; delicious and tender. The 3 shrimp on top were good size and tender. (She ate the shrimp and half the steak; brought the rest home). We then ordered the Creme Brulee and we split it and the blueberries. Our waiter Peter, our waiter, was excellent and so was the other staff! And the prices are reasonable too. The bread and dip at the beginning of the meal is out of this world.... I eat the dip with a spoon. I had always had good experiences until my most recent visit. We went with my family and out-of-town friends for dinner, but one family member was unable to attend. They were running a special that night - a seafood platter or something of the sort - so I ordered it to go. When we returned home and she opened the box, I was so embarrassed - it was the most pitiful excuse for a seafood platter that I have ever seen, and the portion was more like an appetizer than an entree. I contacted the manager about it, because we spent around $450 on our meal, but I never heard back. Disappointing. read more

I was really excited to try this restaurant. Though there are excellent reviews, I must admit that I was a bit underwhelmed. The presentation of my Pork Chop Tchopitoulas was very sloppy. Also, it was very oily. The corn and crabmeat bisque was cold and very thick and desperately needed salt. To top it off, my little girl was heart broken when she couldn't get her pink cotton candy...apparently there was some issue with the machine needing to be cleaned from the blue sugar. The blue cotton candy was full of sugar chunks and did not taste fresh. The waiter was nice but not very knowledgeable about the menu, though he mentioned that he'd been employed for about two years. They serve you fresh baked bread with some Romano, Parmesan Cheese with Herbs and Olive Oil. I ordered the Ribeye because they were out of the Prime Rib (Disappointment #1).
