I went here for an event recently and the service was okay considering it was a large group. I had the chicken Parmesan with spaghetti because many of my friends told me how great it was. I was sadly disappointed. The chicken was not crispy at all and there was a lot of fat surrounding the chicken. Additionally, I thought the sauce was watery and presentation was bad as you can see in my picture. I definitely did not think the food was worth the amount of money I was spending. It's a little difficult to decide where to start. Why they get two stars and not one: The waitress was very sincere in her manner and cheerfulness. It was clean. The food was edible. Why they ONLY get two stars: Out front it is advertised an Itailan restaurant and has an electric scrolling marquee to go with their traditional sign. There is absolutely nothing about the front that says, "This is fine dining". That being said, we went in wearing jeans and t-shirts with windbreakers (which ended up being necessary because it was fairly chilly). The menu is ridiculously small. Four entrees does not make you an Italian restaurant, especially when two of them are spaghetti and meatballs and lasagna and the other two are ______________ Parmesan. Granted, the MENU describes Ruffino's as Italian, steak, and seafood, but you don't know that going in. Again, NOTHING about the outside suggests what to expect on the inside. The prices are STEEP, but I've had a better filet at other restaurants in Baton Rouge for a third of the price. Yes, a third. Salads are a la carte and also not worth what they cost, though the dressings were interesting and different. That doesn't mean you get to charge that much. The desserts were average in size and quality with above average pricing. The initial atmosphere is really nice, BUT about halfway through our meal, the easy listening was replaced with loud music from the bar area (on the opposite side of the restaurant) that was completely different in genre. It went from a quiet dinner to just shy of Applebees. There was also a big screen TV in the dinning room with a football game on. As soon as you add that to your dining room, you can no longer claim fine dining status and you certainly can't price as one. Seriously. Overall, as well traveled individuals who have lived in a variety of places, we know excellent food and what it should cost. What we experienced was decent food at "excellent" prices. If I am going to pay that much, which I am happy to do for a quality dining experience, my dinner had better be amazing. It should make me want to run home and write a great Yelp review, not spend 5 days trying to talk myself out of writing a negative one (note I lost that argument). In the way of constructive criticism, if the management/ownership does nothing else, change the outward appearance so that people driving by (tourists or new to town) know what to expect when visiting your restaurant. And if you want to pass yourself off as fine dining, lose the TV and the scrolling marquee. read more

Good, but not worth the prices they charge. I went with some friends who said this was the best Italian place in the area. The interror of the place is very dark, but warm. It gives a feel of the 80's. The staff was very nice, but there were many of them just hanging out at he bar... I guess waiting on tables to fill. I ordered the Veal, 2 of my friends ordered fish and another ordered pizza. The Veal was good, but not worth $30, and for lunch at that. I've had better at Tony Angelo's (Lakeview, New Orleans), Nephew's (Metairie), Vincent's (Metairie & New Orleans) and NOLA Cafe (Ponchatoula)... and they we bigger portions at much better prices. My friends really like the fish and the pizza. Don't think I'll make plans to go back. Just not as good as everyone raved it to be. read more

Ruffino's was amazing from start to finish! I made a reservation open table for a special table since it was my girlfriend's birthday and they had a great table waiting for us. It also made a great impression on my girlfriend when the manager sat us and told her happy birthday. The service was spot on! They have two servers per table so this helps a lot whenever you need something. The food was excellent and the portions were very generous. We had the braised pork cheeks served with BACON JAM and a sweet potato puree. I am drooling just thinking about those. They just melted in your mouth with every little bite, and they were also not very fatty at all. We both had pasta dishes with either veal or shrimp and everything was cooked perfectly. We definitely had enough for lunch the next day. The desserts were also excellent. They had a special going with the berry tiramisu and it was super moist and delicious. We had reservations here for valentine's day. We arrived a bit before our reservation and we're seated right away. (This worked out well, because as we were seated a huge line of people showed up) we were greeted by one of our waiters (they have 3 per table) and had our drink order taken right away. It took quite some time for the drinks to arrive (non-alcoholic) or for our server to show up. The menu was limited, we knew this when we made reservations, but they handed us another small menu to go along with the limited menu that had a few more app and desert options on it. I ordered the crab cheesecake as an app and the boyfriend ordered the seared tuna. The cheesecake was ok, it had good flavor but not something I would make a special trip for. The seared tuna was nice, but it was way too salty since it was served on a pink salt block; all the salt burned your tongue. For entrees I ordered the chicken parm and the boyfriend ordered the filet. The chicken was nice, but again not something I would make a special trip for. The breading was crunchy and it was smothered in cheese. The red sauce had a small sweet note to it, but it wasn't too bad. The filet was not that fantastic. It was slightly overcooked for our preference and it was not that buttery melt in your mouth texture that you get from a good filet. It came with roasted potatoes, and those were super yummy. To finish out dinner we were brought 2 strawberries; one covered in milk chocolate, the other in white chocolate and a plate of cotton candy. We could have ordered off of the dessert menu, but were pretty full after 3 courses. Their Facebook page said that you were suppose to get an envelope with a suprise in it, but the few people we saw with the envelopes handing them out never came by. This is a great place to go for your birthday or anniversary! They always bring out extra treats and everyone tells you happy birthday . Ruffino's just has a nice romantic feel so it's also perfect for just a date night or lunch. The only complaint I have is I've tried many different cocktails and I still haven't found one I actually enjoy drinking . Next time we are going to try a bottle of wine they have a GREAT list on different wines! When you are seated you are greeted by your waiters then they bring out a complimentary delicious garlic dip with fresh bread. When we went this past Friday I got the Katie Fish it was a redfish topped with crabmeat with a hollandaise sauce served with roasted potatoes for $34 . My husband ordered they ribeye it was also served with roasted potatoes for $38. The redfish was bland I asked for some fresh lemon and Parmesan cheese. My husbands steak was mouthwatering delicious . I have to admit I was a little jealous I didn't order a steak as well but he did share lol! The service was great as usual ! Before we left they brought him out a birthday cake surprise! We will definitely be going back ! When you go you can sign up for their rewards program and on your birthday they send you a buy one get one entree which we used ! My boyfriend and I went to Ruffino's this weekend for a date night and it was delicious. We started with the seared yellowfin tuna appetizer, which was out of this world. He ordered a weekly special, red snapper with black garlic risotto, and I got the veal michael. The snapper was so fresh and all of the different flavors really came together to produce an excellent meal. My veal with lump crab and cream sauce was also delicious. (Side Note: the angel hair pasta with vodka sauce is so good I would honestly order a platter full of it). For dessert we got the tiramisu and the blonde brownie. The brownie was still hot and gooey! The tiramisu was perfect. Our servers (I remember Lauren for sure) were very attentive and kind. As younger guests (in our early-mid 20's), we typically don't get that kind of top notch service but everyone was lovely! read more

This was my first time dinning at Ruffino's and my experience was horrible! Michelle was very RUDE and her tone and behavior was unacceptable! I questioned an item that I was charged for and I was told she wasn't responsible for my reading... My interpretation of that was... "You can't read"... When in all actuality it was never on the menu to begin with so I can read! I am so very disappointed! I will never visit this Ruffino's location again. read more

Gave Ruffino's another shot last night and they didn't disappoint. The red fish was delicious. My colleague had the veal and was very happy with his dish. The wine, outstanding. The customer service, impeccable! They had noted my disappointment from my last visit and the GM could not have been nicer. It makes a difference to know they really care about their food/service. Meh. I have been to Ruffino's before and enjoyed their ribeye, but the flounder special that is currently being offered was not good. It was overcooked and dry. Dining service was as great as it was previously, but the bar tends need to work on their customer service. Overall, I'd recommend for beef, but go across the street to Creole for seafood. read more

My wife & I plus our neighbors & family members are "regulars" for the last few years. Went for our neighbor's wife's birthday recently & had a very enjoyable experience (as usual). Made reservations & were seated upon arrival. My wife had meat balls & spagetti, birthday lady had eggplant parm, her husband had shrimp alfedo & I had a ribeye. All 4 of us enjoyed celebration salads (we took part home - huge). We all took portions of our meals home, too! The wait staff was friendly & courteous as always. Disappointed. Brought out of town guest to Ruffino's last night in hopes to enjoy a good steak. I ordered the filet mignon and asked it to be cooked " as rare as possible/Cold in the middle". I expect when I'm dining at an upscale steakhouse for the temperature to be correct on my steak. The steak was overcooked. Most steakhouses offer sides a la cart only. I was impressed that potatoes came with the steak. However, three of the four of us ordered steaks and only two of us received a whole serving of roasted potatoes. If you're going to skimp one person's portion you should at least divvy out the potatoes evenly so no one notices!!! Six chopped pieces of potato hardly constitutes a side when the others had double the portion. (you know it's a small portion when somebody actually counts their pieces of potatoes!) for having three waiters we had to request plain butter twice and our waters to be refilled three times. I guess when you have too many waiters attending to your table everyone assumes the others have cared for the tables needs? One of our ribeyes had a good portion of fat on it. So much so that the waiter at the end asked if he could box one of our guest leftovers up. We all looked at each other shocked! Yes there was a big serving left on his plate but could he not tell that it was all grizzle? That being said we have ordered hamburgers from Ruffino's to go numerous times before and they are amazing. Hands-down the best burger you can find in the Baton Rouge area. Heard a lot about Ruffino's...was really looking to a first class meal. Uh oh... Corn & crab chowder was delicious! The appetizer sampler was not good at all. It was cold and gummy...the flavors were all the same. BBQ shrimp was not good at all. The famous crawfish cheesecake was pasty and bland. The diver scallop was almost raw. My friend's entrees came out cold and also very underseasoned. The desserts...tiramisu was hard and dry and had no espresso flavor. The bread pudding was very good. Service was spotty...too few servers, although it was a busy Wednesday night. I'll try this place again, even though tonight was a big disappointment. read more

The Veal and Steak is VERY good. The veal is melt in your mouth tender. I have not had better Veal in the Baton Rouge area. It's a nice old fashioned Italian feeling restaurant that has table clothes and a fire place. I've been going to group functions there for years. It's a pleasant evening "Grown up" dining experience. Ate lunch here after church. Once again Ruffino's does not disappoint. The fresh made crab dip was incredible and there was not one shell from the crab. Wonderful attention to detail even in those type details. My wife, who seldom eats red meat, ordered the prime rib and asked for well done. The meat arrived cooked as she requested and still moist and tender. My knuckle sandwich (lump lobster meat from the claws) was fantastic and would highly recommend both of the preceding. I visited Ruffino's resturant often. Normally it is really good. I went there today with my wife and everything we ordered was horrible. We ordered fried duck tender and it was burned. We order two filets steaks and they were horrible. I could not tell what piece of meat it was. The crab sauce was over cooked. They replaced it with more over cooked sauce. The potatoes were not cut and hard. My wife sent here meal back. We will not be going back. Not sure if it was because the owner died or what. read more
