After seeing so many rave reviews, decided to go here to celebrate my engagement. I called the day of and made evening reservations. Upon arrival, we had to wait about 15 minutes past our reservation time to be seated; but, the hostess was apologetic. Our server and drink server were good. They were nice and attentive, but more so the drink server. We ordered the special Mardi Gras Mamba cocktails and were not impressed. FYI, they won't turn on the TVs in the back seating area unless an LSU game is on. For appetizers, I had some of the complimentary bread, it was good, the dipping spice was bland. I also had the spinach salad minus pecans it was really good. Going in, I knew there was only one vegetarian entree on the menu and I'm not a fan of eggplant. So I asked the server if the chef could make me a vegetarian pasta dish. The chef did a pretty good job. It was angel hair pasta with a plethora of veggies in a butter sauce. The only thing missing was flavor. I finished the night with some complimentary cotton candy. They brought us a slice of what appeared to be fudge decorated to celebrate our engagement, but I was unable to eat it as I am allergic to chocolate. My fiancee said it was too rich. However, he did enjoy his creme brulee. Overall, I appreciated and enjoyed all the complimentary items and the service. But I must say that I would not return. Honestly, we both liked Gino's food and service much better. However, this is definitely a solid place for some. read more

Ruffino's is an amazing Italian restaurant. My dad took me here for the first time right before I started high school and it has always been a fancy place in my mind. I remember feeling so special. The waiter was super nice and the food was amazing. Now that I've graduated college, gotten married, and have a full time job, I can afford to go back on my own and I brought my husband on a date here. He's from California, so he'd never been before. He did find it weird that there were so many TVs with sports on in such a dimly lit, quiet restaurant. He got the chicken Alfredo and he thought it was ok. There was too much chicken in it, but if you like chicken in every bite then you'd love it. We both loved the eggplant Parmesan! It was a giant portion and the angel hair pasta beneath it was delicious. I got a to go box and ate it for several meals after. The waiters were super nice and although we didn't order any wine, we felt like we should tip the sommelier because he was so attentive and came by to check on us several times. So apparently this is a Baton Rouge staple and I haven't been here yet so I decided to give it a try. For one I am not big on Italian food so I made sure to check the menu before I went in and come out hungry. Promptly seated as we had a reservation and greeted by our waiter whom I'm assuming was new as he was also doing a brief training with a manager across from us. Good to know they try to make sure the staff is giving good service on the floor. I was not impressed with the drink menu. I asked if they could make cocktails not listed and was pointed to the cocktails they have listed. I had the fish Katie and it was great. I've never eaten redfish before but it was cooked perfectly. The crab meat on top was so good I could have just ordered that and been satisfied. Watch out for a few shells though as I did get a few in mine. My husband got the pasta and he enjoyed it as well. Our two waiters were great. The restaurant was very loud. I struggled to hear my partner right next to me. The food was lackluster, and it was not worth the high price. I had the tchoupitoulas and the pork chop was very over cooked and served with some bland dry mashed potatoes. We had the duck fingers appetizer, and it had no flavor. I liken the taste to frozen chicken tenders. The drink prices were also not worth the size of the drinks. Mixed drinks are about 8 ounces and start at $14. read more

I always pass this place up and finally had a free day with my guy to try it out. I'm a flight attendant, and I loveeee food, so trust me I know good food. Our Service was fine no complaints there. I ordered the steak oscar, it was cooked to my liking lacking a little in flavor but was good enough. This is where i get a little upset with the food when my guys cedar plank redfish came out it was so small it was the size of my pinky. I usually look at yelp reviews prior to dining but this time I just went with the flow. After leaving the establishment my guy was so upset and still hungry by the way, I looked at the photos on yelp to see the other patrons fish was as big as the plank. I don't know what was going on in the kitchen but to be charged $30 for a half of a half of redfish is just insane. read more

My boyfriend and I decided to go with our server's reccomendation for the crabmeat cheesecake appetizer and let me tell you I'm so glad we listened to him bc it was absolutely delicious! I had the alfredo for the entree & it had good enough flavor & my boyfriend had the steak, he really enjoyed it and he even gave me a bite and it's full of great flavors. I met the manager on my way out. On a day we certainly were dressed like sloppy New Englanders and not Southern Sunday best. I wasn't feeling well, but I had to get Italian food out of my system. I just can't associate good Italian food with Baton Rouge. I'm an Italian food and wine snob. Ruffinos surprised me. Sicilian "Italo Americano", busy and cheesy decor, but full of soul and a fantastic "gravy" (Sunday Sauce) thick and flavorful with a tinge of sweetness. The capellini was overcooked for my taste, but the veal parm is one of the best executed veal parms I have tasted in a long time. I am thankful for not getting another oil change for the week. Or Turkey. Service is lovely. Lots of celebrities have visited. My favorite? SNOOP!!!! Seriously. I was coming down with a bug, so no wine or Martini for me on this visit. I'm not sure what happened, but I was really disappointed with my last trip here. We made reservations for a birthday party and the staff was definitely accommodating. Almost too accommodating though. I lost count of how many different servers/staff came by our table to get our orders. It got kind of frustrating because it didn't seem like there was much communication among the staff regarding our orders. The food was also very mediocre, particularly the Taste of Ruffino's (good variety, but very average flavor) and the Veal Palermo (I couldn't finish it. It just tasted sour and dry). When it came time for checks, I made sure to let our server know not to give the birthday girl a bill, that we would take care of it. Guess who wound up with the most expensive bill at the table? Yep, birthday girl. Surprise! After we all left, we noticed that many of us got overcharged. They had split the wine among random people at the table, split the appetizers among random people at the table. No rhyme or reason to it. Fortunately, they got the entrees right. We didn't bother mentioning it though. I still love the bread and oil. And the cotton candy. And I like their efforts. The staff is super friendly. The service was amazing, our waiters were great, however for the money we spent the food was OK at best. They had a heirloom stuffed tomato (tomato was hard and looked like a regular tomato) on the menu with that was described as being stuffed with crab meat and artichoke, it was like soup and there wasn't an artichoke in sight and the crab scarce as well and what was in there was full of shells. So that was a bust, awful appetizer. Then the food was served, my boyfriend had a filet with roasted potatoes that he's said was good but the potatoes were nothing to get excited about. The caprese salad tomato was like the app looked and tasted like a tomato from the grocery store, hard and flavorless. I ordered the crab and corn bisque which was loaded with crab shells, it did taste good but I didn't finish it because of the shells that you got in every bite. The tuna and broccolini was so bland and well just not good. I won't be going back anytime soon if ever. Very sad trip! read more

After 13 years of being gone from Louisiana, I've ventured back over to this favorite spot of mine. The ambience is classy, Louisiana dining at its finest. And the staff will take care of you like their own family. If you're able to get Sydney and Trevor as your servers, they will provide the best service around. Now, on to the best part, our food! The wedge salad - You cannot go wrong with this salad. It's perfectly portioned & a great starter. I ordered the Pork Tchoupitoulas & substituted my mashed potatoes for broccolini. The pork was perfectly seasoned topped with shrimp. My broccolini had a buttery rich flavoring that paired well with it all. For dessert, my family & I shared the ice cream/brownie & the bread pudding. The bread pudding was my absolute favorite, plus with the bill they brought us cotton candy. I was very excited to finally try Ruffino's after hearing so much about it, but the entire experience was underwhelming. Upon entering the restaurant there was a wet garbage smell. I was still able to smell the odor at the table and asked a friend if she smelled it, she confirmed and described it as a vomit smell. The food was only ok and the service was subpar. The complimentary bread was good, not great. The spinach celebration salad was ok. The fish Katie ($34) was good, not great. Other feedback from the table: the shrimp Alfredo was decent -- 7 or 8 big shrimp which was nice, but no better than what you can get at Oliver Garden. Others at the table got steak and seemed to like it. Though, one person's steak was so undercooked it was nearly blue in the middle. It got sent back to the kitchen to cook to medium and took almost 15 minutes to get back to the table. I'd love to tell you how the crabmeat cheesecake appetizer was, but the appetizers never made it to our table. The drink server was great, but the food server was below average. Soups came out and no one had spoons. Steaks came out and no one had steak knives. The entire process was slow due to long intervals between the server coming to the table. Overall, food wasn't terrible but nothing special. Service and entire experience fell way below where it should be. Might be ok for a sports bar, but not for what this place is trying to be. Was seated immediately, ordered the card cheese cake, calamari ,and duck.fimgers .For the main course my wife had the meatballs and spaghetti, I had the veal.michale, for dessert we had creme brulee. Let me start off by saying that the 3 star rating has nothing to do with any of the three servers, Jason the drink specialist is probably the only reason I will return, Conor the bread and water guy was extremely helpful and Jared the waiter was not lacking 8m any department of service skills. The drinks were probably the best mojito I've had it this country, however the crab cheesecake was not anything special, the calamari had to be returned and second time around was just as bad. The duck finger was actually pretty tasty , but like the calamari was over battered, the crab and corn bisque was pretty damn amazing, my dish veal Michael was poorly prepared but tasty the pasta that came with it could of made to be a standalone dish .and last but definitely not least the spaghetti and meat balls was probably best thing we were served , do I think this is a common occurrence here, absolutely not , service was very good, and got wind of them having new kitchen people was comped a drink and did not have to pay for the inedible calamari. As a local, I'm ashamed to admit that I have never been to Ruffino's until now. We went for brunch and had the most amazing experience. Everything from the hostess that seated us, to the wait staff that consistently kept our water glasses full and bread on the table, to the super knowledgeable server who waited on us was spectacular. I had my doubts because it is a bit on the pricier side, but you absolutely pay for what you get. I ordered a sensation salad and the fish Katie and my friend also had a salad and then the Eggs Vermillion dish. When I tell you that I am STILL (a month later) drooling over the succulent lump crab on top of my fish Katie, I am not joking. It is drool [and dream] worthy! His crab cakes were outstanding and left nothing to be desired. I also ordered an old fashioned and it was perfectly made. The cutest lagniappe came out at the end of our meal--cotton candy! Nice restaurant with friendly service! We had a head waiter, an assistant waiter and a drink waiter for our table, so we were well taken care of. We started with bread and olive oil with a lot of Parmesan cheese - it wasn't our choice by the way to have Parmesan cheese in the olive. It gave the olive oil an interesting taste but we would rather have it without the Parmesan cheese. We got the grilled oysters as an appetizer - just to compare it will parrain's and roux 61. We felt the oysters also had an interesting taste but parrain and roux 61 had better grilled oyster. We also got the crabmeat cheesecake - interesting concept but we didn't really like it. It was like a lasagna but stuffed with crabmeat instead of beef. Our main entree was the lasagna and this was the worst dish out of everything. It had a plain taste and there were too much Parmesan cheese in the dish. We joked that maybe the only ingredient the chef had was Parmesan cheese as they were plenty in the oysters and the olive oil. It was a nice restaurant but we was just a bad night for us. read more

From what I understand, this place is an institution here in Baton Rouge, and i kind of see why. Service was impeccable and the food was great! Pretty much everything on their menu was great (including the cotton candy!!), but my absolute fav was the seared tuna on the himalayan salt block - very pretty, light and tasty at the same time. I think the salt block added real flavor to the dish - it wasn't just for show haha. I also had the caprese salad - very light, refereshing and so yum, no complains! I was here with a part of about 14 folks for work and I know we had a lot of fun. Someone else ordered the wine, but I enjoyed it nonetheless. The place is definitely a little dated and I cannot speak to it being a real steakhouse, since I ate no meat here. I will probably be back for the tuna! read more
