I have to say, Rum Bay was just OK..... What makes Rum Bay awesome is the ride to the restaurant and the view. We ate here for Easter and i have to say that their Easter buffet wasn't great.... I wish they would've indicated on their website that they were only going to serving the buffet. You couldn't even order off the menu if you wanted to. That I didn't like. All the buffet items were your usual buffet selections. Prime rib, a chicken, a white fish, a couple different cold salads, etc.... Nothing out of this world great. I would like to go back and eat off their menu because it seems like they have a lot of great seafood items to choose from. read more

Location Location, Location - If you are looking for something different on an island only accessible by boat or ferry. This is it. Or, if you're staying on Palm Island, this is your only option. I have dined hear many times. The food is generally OK. Stick to the menu. The holiday buffets are a tragic mess. A good option is the sunset menu until 6:00pm. It is basically two meals for the price of one. The heartiest entree is the Chicken Parmesan. My wife likes the coconut shrimp. The ribs are generally good, but not as good as they were a few years ago. They claim to make their own swamp (BBQ) sauce. It is a good sweet sauce with small bits of veggies. Desserts are fine. The place is good for kids and they handle large groups well. It can be noisy. The entertainment does not really add to the experience and just makes it louder. Say high to Redbeard on Friday's - he leads the adjacent pirate show. Kitchy, but very enjoyable. A hit is "Palm Island Moon" Say hi to Bones the parrot. read more

Can only get here by boat which makes it fun but the food leaves a little to be desired. Fish and chips had four little pieces of fried fish with a huge pile of fries. The fish taco was a dry grilled piece of fish with not much flavor. read more

Seven in our group ate lunch at Rum Bay at Palm Island. While most had ribs that we very good. One member had Grouper fish. Fish was very small, thin and tough. Talked to manager Jeff about dissatisfaction. He never returned to followup with us at the table, so I approached him when departing. He then said, that he checked with Executive Chef, and agreed that fish was tough, but made no attempt to compensate or replace the poor quality of fish. This is the second time that i visited where fish is a poor selection on their menu. read more

Great pizza but not so great service We're staying at the resort and ordered pizza takeout from here. We got one normal pan pizza and ones chefs special which was very delicious! I docked one star because the service wasn't that great. The brochures that the resort leaves in the rooms said that they have no problem with delivering but when we asked them for delivery they said they only do it when they're not busy. Furthermore when I called to place my takeout order, no one was answering the phones. I left a message and no one called back. read more

We took the boat over for dinner. Nice, low-key place. Staff was friendly. Service was nice and the food was great! It's worth the $6 boat ride over and the pricing on the food was very reasonable. Will definitely go back. read more

Well, it's the only restaurant on the island, so beggars can't be picky. We had a party of 13 around 8:00 on a Sunday night. They accommodated us very nicely at a late table with no waiting. The service was excellent. I had the mahi fish tacos, which were not so excellent. The fish was way over cooked. My husband had the ribs, which he said were pretty good. My son had the kids burger and he liked it, too. The menu is pretty extensive so most people would be able to find something they like. We were not staying at the resort but it looks very nice. We golf carted from our condo to the restaurant. Cars are left outside the front gate. read more

I have eaten at Rum Bay many times. My family and I love it. We typically go there by boat, but if you don't have a boat, they have a water taxi that will take you there from the Palm Island Marina accessible from the mainland. Even better is staying on Palm Island and walking there. whatever you do, drop in and have some good food or just a drink a the bar. We love the grouper tacos and the rum drinks are excellent. I so wanted to love this restaurant. The fish and chips need some help. Although the pieces of fish were big and fresh, it had no seasoning, and the batter was mushy and bland. The fries were limp, as if they were very old. I give them one extra star because I liked the cole slaw, and because I loved my dessert. The carrot cake was light & fresh, and the cream cheese frosting was velvety and delicious. The dollops of fresh cream made it divine! Please fix your fish and chips... Went to this spot on a saturday night. It was a full house but noneed to wait to be seated. We had the calamari appetizer(crunchy, thick pieces of calamari), the whole fried snapper which he finished and loved, the chicken parm with bowtie pasta that was ok...wpuld have been better with spaghetti pasta instead and the rum bay pasta which was a little watery for me but was pretty good if ur into lots of seafood over pasta in white sauce. read more

Food is good and the house special run drink was great, however the powered island home owners will not allow you to walk to the beach.

We had intentions of having lunch then beach then drinks but when we got there we were told do not leave restaurant that beaches are private and it time you leave.I am thinking this will be our last visit to Rumbay to bad. read more

If one gives this restaurant 5 stars, they do not get out much. The place is gets very loud when big groups are presenter waitresses (which are good) have no bus service so it's very hard to get a refill of whatever your drinking. The food is good not great. The adult beverages are pricey well made touristy drink but do not pack a punch. read more

We stayed in Englewood area last summer, and one of our favorite things that we did was to take the water taxi over to Palm Island, eat at Rum Bay restaurant, and go to the beach. Our kids could not wait to go back this year and do that. We were very disappointed when we got to the water taxi and were told that we could not go to the beach because it was their 'private beach'. He said the owners made changes because they didn't like people coming over using their beach. Too bad because this restaurant just lost out on a party of six which would've probably been around $150 bill. And our kids lost out on a great experience and are very upset. If people are willing to pay $5/person for the taxi and pay high prices for mediocre food, they should be allowed to use the beach. Owners should reconsider their bad decision to make those changes. read more

Decided to try Rum Bay last nite, we had been somewhat hesitant given the reviews. Glad we went, from the pilot of the water taxi to the young lady who thanked us for coming as we were leaving it was a totally positive experience. It's not gourmet dining, but it's not ment to be. We had grouper meal, mahi with blue crab and two burgers. All were satisfied with their meals. Our waiter, Balen I believe, couldn't have been more accommodating or attentive. Just a very fun casual evening. We will be returning for sure. read more

Very disappointed with this place. We paid 6 bucks per person (used to be free...then became 5 bucks btw) to get on the water taxi...got to the restaurant, ate (nothing crazy good about the food either).and then as we are finishing our meal, we decide that we would like to take a walk on the beach. Ive done that for many years since I was a kid...and never had a problem. Today, we hear that you are no longer allowed to go on the beach, bc its private??? I mean we got NO notice or warning about this when we got to the water taxi about this change. .and to pay that much money to just go to the restaurant? No thanks. Many other places i could go for free and walk on the beach afterwards like Lock and Key!. This ferry should make a more obvious notice to all people getting on it...bc as of now, there is no clear sign or warning of that change. You just lost some of your local customers! read more

This was our first visit to Rum Bay and Pine Island. Great day trip for us, including dolphins following our water taxi back to mainland. Food and drink at Rum Bay was good, a little pricey which you would expect. Without exception, the wait staff was rude and/or unfriendly. Dined here while on vacation with my wife and another couple. The waiter we had seemed to be intoxicated with slurred speech and a less than attentive demeanor forgetting much of our order multiple times. The food was sub par at best (dry and barely above room temp) but the waiter was what bothered me the most. His boss had too have noticed his condition but still let him serve customers. We have visited Rum Bay each year for the past 4 years while on holiday in Rotonda, we go by water taxi which is lovely. The first visit the food was very good but sadly each year the food and the restaurant has deteriated on our last visit the lunch time menu was not available so it was quite expensive having to choose off a menu which was more like you would want to pay in the evening. I choose the crab cake which must have been cooked in very old oil it was not very nice, the waiter needed a lot of customer service training, and the restaurant needs a complete overall. Needless to say we won't be visiting next year which is very sad when a place situated in such a lovely spot goes down like this. Perhaps if they had more competition it may have kept it's standards a little higher! read more

Ate here several times during a several week stay at Cape Haze. Everything was delish! A must when in the area.

The water taxi ride was the highlight of this disappointing excursion. We had a reservation and were seated quickly in the center of the entry area of the dining room. We could not be missed, but we felt invisible. We sat for more than 10 minutes before we flagged staff members looking for someone to take a drink order. I asked for a manager who didn't make his way to the table for 30 minutes. The young staff appeared to be hustling, but not around us. When we finally got a waiter he was polite, took our order and then ran off to serve all his other tables. I finally got to share our displeasure with the manager and his response was lame. He barely apologized and moved on without saying he'd do anything to fix the problem. After more than an hour in this confusion our food order finally arrived. We watched another group leave that had been enduring similar bad service and I wish we had too. The food was edible, but beyond that there was no redeeming value to it. The ribs were dry and boring. The burgers seemed fair and my grilled grouper was okay too. Food doesn't taste as good to me when I'm bitter about the bad service. Don't expect much if you come here. read more

The food was hit or miss on each plate. We were a party of 8 and most were not impressed with their meals. The service was very inadequate for the prices of the food. The only restaurant on the island, so unless you wanted to pay $55 to take the car across by ferry you are pretty much stuck cooking yourself. read more

We went to Rum Bay for lunch by boat. The restaurant is not actually on the water, and is far enough away that it doesn't even have water views. The atmosphere was pretty nondescript, and the food was okay at best. After lunch we decided to take a walk up to the beach, but we weren't even out of the parking area before we were stopped by security and informed that only resort guests were allowed past that that point. We felt very unwelcome (although they were happy to take our money), and overall it was an unpleasant experience. read more
