Good a mixed meats platter that came with hummus, rice, pita, and a middle eastern salad, the shawarma and kofta kebab were very nice, the gyro and falafel were mediocre. When I walked in, literally the first thing I said was "Oh, this is just a fast casual spot." Not quiiiite... their food was on another level. My friend and I found ourselves staring at the menu for quite a while. We had options of either pitas, platters, or salads... and plenty of yummy sides. I decided to go with the all-meat platter that had kofta, chicken shawarma, lamb and falafel on it. And with a check-in on here you get a free baklava with a $15+ purchase. That's a win win for me! I'm soooo happy we ordered from here last minute! I ordered steak pita sandwich and chicken shawarma pita. SO GOOOOOD!!!! All the toppings are so fresh and refreshing! I wish I added lots of sides of their hot sauce because I want to put that on everything !!! It's so flavorful! They literally gave the smallest side of it :( the tahini and tzatziki is delicious. Absolutely love that you can add a solo grape leaf for 1$ and that they had small sides of falafel (3 pieces). I often end up ordering 5 different things because I crave the variety of Mediterranean...this place allows you to in a more economical way. I was hungry, but could not stop eating the food! This place is right down the street from our condo and I love getting a quick meal here if I'm working late. The kofta kabob pita is deliciously stuffed with lamb, chopped cucumbers, parsley, cabbage, and lots of crunch and flavor. For $10 you can have a hearty meal. The chocolate cake is so amazing. It's around $5. Ideally the slice would be a little bigger. I also really like their hot sauce but the flavor varies a lot. Guessing they make it in house or something is causing the inconsistency but when you get it on a good day, it's really unique in a good way. Lentil soup has a good flavor. Prefer it over other lentil soups I've tasted. I've ordered their wraps and have had some inconsistencies with ratios and portion sizes. Sometimes it's a generous serving and sometimes there are too many onions. One of the things I love about Yelp is finding new places. I was reading some Review Of The Day's and found one for Rumi. It looked great and we decided to give it a try. It's a quick drive and with no traffic we made it there in no time at all. There is a ton of street parking but it's a busy area so plan accordingly. Due to COVID, all orders are by phone and online, but they do have fast curbside delivery. Now the phone...wow...really really good stuff. My girlfriend got the falafel platter and I got the all in platter. The food was fresh, tasted great with big servings. The gyro meat wasn't greasy at all, very fresh. The chicken cooked perfectly and the falafel was great. The rice was very moist and not dried out (huge pet peeve). The salad tasted good and I enjoyed that too. If you check in on yelp , you also get a free baklava which was awesome. Oh and next time I'm trying the Shawarma Poutine ...yep they have Shawarma Poutine...amazing. Chicken was grilled well and spiced perfectly. Chunks were large and in no way dry. Rice and vegetables were also very crisp and tasty. There was enough food here for two servings easily. The gyro pita was also excellent. It was unexpected that the gyro meat was chunks instead of thin slices but still very good. The pita was stuffed full. Will order again and cannot wait until things open back up so that I can visit in person. Highly suggest for takeout. Experience: I came here to catch up with a friend. Rumi Middle Eastern is a self seated place, but with a party of two, we did not have a difficult time trying to find a table to eat at. Parking: Being dead center of Wicker Park, parking is going to be difficult (Paid or Free). With that said, it appears that there is only paid street parking in front of the restaurant. However, there is free parking, but your have to walk a bit. Free parking is located within side street, just ensure you look at signs such as permit parking. Worth: I would say it is worth a visit. Staff was friendly enough and professional. Food was pretty decent. I ordered the All-in-Platter (As pictured below) so this way I was able to try all their protein. Food did take while to get it, but this may be due the preparation they had to on cooking it. At the end tho, food was good! read more

Great food, polite staff, and REALLY clean restaurant. I've been here 3 or 4 times and I try to stop whenever I'm in the neighborhood. It's never super crowded when I go in but I'm guessing it gets busier later at night. The food is always great. I've had the falafel, chicken schwarma, fries, hummus, and some of the desserts between my few visits. Everything tasted great and the staff made it all quickly right in view. Most people seem to get carry out from what I've seen, but the place is nice if you stay to dine in. Pretty good! I tried the chicken kebab plate with a side of baba ganoush. The baba ganoush was okay, but I'm not sure how much eggplant was in there it tasted mostly like herbed tahini. The rice and veggies that came with the chicken were good, but the chicken itself was on the dry side unfortunately. My dining companions ordered the lamb kebabs and said that was excellent. Have to say, Rumi is STILL one of my favorite places to eat in Chicago, I've been going here for years. They have made cosmetic updates following covid and it looks beautiful. Still amazing and consistent food, and the falafel is the BEST!!! There are other restaurants in the area that "specialize" in falafel and they do not compare to Rumi.
