As a younger gentleman, I played football, basketball & baseball. I did most of that using converse; Chuck's. Last week, I tried running on concrete in a random situation in low top converse on concrete. I got a reality check as an older person not able to do what I used to do. At the recommendation of my daughter's bf I called this store and visited the very next day. I put on a pair of hoka's and was enlightened by their video diagnosis of my in store run. Absolutely love the Running Center!! I started running about 7 years ago and got away with ordering random shoes online thinking I would save a few bucks. Eventually injuries started creeping in and I knew I needed expert help. The staff at the Running Center got me into the best shoe for my gait/pronation/miles/surface and it was like a miracle!! What a difference the right shoe makes! Since then, I have come in with various questions on my running aches and pains and the staff have always been able to help me figure out the issue. (The latest was IT band problems and Doreen help me zero in on the issue...I had changed my route to road running that was always cambered on one side! Changed my route and fixed it!) Just a couple weeks ago I brought my teen son in. He is new to running and thought I was ridiculous for insisting on getting fit for the best shoe. It was a game changer for him (they even had his size 15's in stock!). He absolutely can't believe what a difference the right shoe makes. A small business in the center of Redlands in the middle of nowhere (kind of). You pretty much have to know what's around the place to find it because I've been in that shopping plaza many times and never ever seen this place. It's a runners store so of course everything they have is for running. I bought my Adrenaline GTS 12's here because they had my color and my size! The girl who helped me was pretty helpful. She wasn't as extensive in helping me like how others say they were helped, but she was helpful and pretty knowledgeable in the sport of running. She let me try on another pair of shoes that were similar to the Brooks that she though I might like better. Come here if you're looking for running shoes because most likely they'll have your size and color unlike some other major chains. But my shoes were $1 more than the major chain sports stores but even with tax the prices were the same, so don't worry about "which one is cheaper?" because it's the same. read more

You know the general level of service you're going to get at a specialty running store. You know they're going to know their stuff, and that you're going to get well-taken care of. That's always been the case for me the few times I've visited Running Center. So what sets them apart? Why do I make the 45 minute drive from Palm Springs when there's a very awesome local running store out here as well? The fact that Running Center does two things: keeps the newest releases in stock, and they hold regular test runs with shoe company reps. I wasn't looking for the newest Nike Pegasus 31, but RC had it, and let me try it on. They did the same for the NB 980 Fresh Foam, as well as the Asics Excel 33-3. I didn't end up buying those particular shoes, but that they had them when no one else did wasn't lost on me. So when the Saucony Ride 7 came into my crosshairs, I knew RC wouldn't disappoint. Sure enough, they held a test run with the local Saucony rep. She had me throw on a pair, and I of course came home with them. I can't say enough how awesome these test runs are. I know it's OK to try on shoes to make sure they work, but I feel guilty trying on shoes I'm not sure I'm going to buy. So to have a test run with pairs there specifically for that purpose is perfect. I can try guilt-free, and that makes me 1000x more likely to buy. So folks at RC, you've won me over. I'm in Palm Springs now, but you're my local running store of choice. Heaven help me if I ever move to the Inland Empire! read more

First to review the Running Center? Odd, but okay... We came here as my wife was having problems with the shoes she was using while on the elliptical machine... numb toes, apparently it's a common problem with these machines. Our normal fitness shoe selection is basically as follows: Does the shoe look cool? Are they in my size? Are they 'comfortable'? We went to the running center as we heard they have experts... Oh yes they do! The staff were incredible, I didn't know there was so much to know about running shoes... After being told the application and the problems they went to work selecting shoes to try on. She must have tried on a dozen pairs, all selected by the staff. They have hard surface running down the center of the store, they make you walk or run on this surface while watching how you react to the shoes and how the shoes react to you - fascinating to watch. They eventually narrowed down the selection to a pair of running shoes we would never have even looked at normally, but they are pretty much perfect for my wifes needs and she's never had such comfortable exercise shoes. Amazing. No sticker shock either, the prices are compatible to anywhere you buy name brand sneakers, just this place has amazing knowledge in the product to help you get the best shoe for your needs. read more

I have gone thru 3 pairs of walking shoes in the space of a month, trying to find a pair that didn't hurt my feet or leave me with red sore soles; very frustrated. A Track coach told me about this store in Redlands, "The Running Store", so off I went this morning. They had specialists that spent time with you, listened to your problems with your current shoes, then watched you walk. My problem turned out to be my arches were turning inward and I needed shoes that had arches built in. They fitted me with 8 different pairs of shoes, and I narrowed them down to two and walked out with a pair of Nike's. I had previously been walking 1 mile per day and being painfully sore afterward. Today I wore my new shoes all day, walked one mile in the morning after the purchase, and then another one this afternoon and I'm so pleased. Not a sore area on my feet anywhere. They have a wide selection and the staff will have you try on a variety of shoes to find the best for your feet / needs. Running after a heavy meal...on my birthday?! Say whaaaa? Apparently, I was long overdue for some new running shoes, so my boyfriend took me here as a birthday surprise. I'll be honest, I wasn't very impressed by this store at first glance, but I ended up leaving happy AND with a new pair of kicks for running. Unlike Roadrunner, there aren't any treadmills for running, but there's a track that runs the length of the store and a camera that's set up at an angle at floor level so that you have a close-up of your stride on a TV. The guy who helped us was extremely helpful, and also very straightforward - he asked me a series of questions to help me determine my fit and didn't try to sell me and my boyfriend extra stuff we didn't want or need, which is what most salespeople do. A word to the wise: be honest and thorough when the salespeople ask you questions. They're there to find you the most comfortable shoe based on your specific needs. I tend to get running shoes that are way too tight on me (I have abnormally small, yet abnormally wide feet, so shoe shopping is always a drag), but with their help, I ended up finding out that I'm actually a shoe-size bigger than I thought. I tried on at least 4 pairs of shoes (ran in them all) and my perfect running shoe ended up being the Brooks Adrenaline GTS 14. They're snug with enough wiggle space for my feet, and most importantly, EXTREMELY comfortable on a treadmill, which is where I typically do all my running. This store also has decent discounts on their workout gear, so after picking out my shoes, I ended up snagging another Nike Pro Printed sports bra for under $30. I like that at this store, you aren't tricked into buying expensive, useless workout gear - you're simply free to peruse at your pleasure, with no salespeople up in your business trying to pressure you into an impulsive purchase. It's also good to note that they have a 1-month warranty on all their shoes (given that you didn't run in some mud) - meaning, you can return your shoes at any time within that period if it turns out to be the wrong fit. Very helpful staff. I wouldn't say friendly- but knowledgable . I tried on at least 20 pairs of shoes. They helped me pick the kind of shoe I needed for my stride. I narrowed it down and had to order the shoes I wanted in a different color and size than they had in stock. Sadly, I waited two weeks and never heard anything about my shoes coming in.... I walked in and was helped immediately. I told the guy helping me that I was a new runner and needed a gait assessment because my shoes were killing me. He watched me run in a few different pairs of shoes and I ended up going home in the first choice that he picked for me. I ended up with the same brand I was already in but a better construction. I got socks too and he gave me a discount that brought my total to the amount with the shoes only. I went running in the shoes when I got home and wow! I ran longer and with better posture. Awesome everything! My nephew comes here for his cross country running shoes and has always had a great experience. I'm recovering from a bad ankle injury and my foot is still slightly and visibly swollen. So we walked in just to get an idea of what i need and I got way more than expected. We were greeted at the door with hello's and welcome to the Running Center. We were immediately tended to by a young man. While being helped out, another female employee also made different suggestions about the types of shoes that may feel comfortable. The gentleman who was at the register soon came over to give a helping hand as well. Many questions we asked about how they felt. I would never go anywhere else in the IE for running shoes. As a veteran runner of 40 plus years (yikes!) I love the personal attention and time they spend with you. Last time I bought a new pair I wanted to try a different type of shoe. They painstakingly had me try on about 15 pairs of shoes and ended up back with my old brand. They keep records and can easily look up how long ago you purchased your shoes and even give you advice and tips on upcoming races. You may a bit more then you would at an outlet store but for me the service is well worth the money! read more
